Before the Hut, Just a Little

Faith waves up to the blind. "Hello there," he says. "Come down here and talk."

Male Human Cavalier 17

Zaine backs Faith's play, bringing up the musket and pulling back the hammer, but not aiming. Yet.

Quote:
"all under the ground it calls to the spirits of the dead and holds them" The fey creature says as if mentioning the sky is normally blue.

"Here too?" Áine asks, indicating the same bay Aycenia had pointed to earlier.

Before the Hut, Just a Little

Áine nearly hisses. She looks elsewhere, anywhere but at the blind, off in the distance. Then deliberately scans the area and finally let's her attention settle on whoever might be hiding above.

Back to camp after the Grey Island

Quote:
"Here too?" Áine asks, indicating the same bay Aycenia had pointed to earlier.

"blood and hunger" She says, distractedly. Her skin is noticeably greyed Thacker when she first emerged, "please visit me if you need healing or a safe place to rest"

She starts to move back to the heavy undergrowth.

Before the Hut, Just a Little

From the very well hidden blind you see a wiry man emerge. His dark hair is long and mostly unkempt. His deeply tanned skin is marked with multiple scar tattoos in the shape of pentagrams. "آنها خوشمزه هستند شاید من هنوز می توانم یکی را بگیرم."

He starts the long 50-foot climb down to the game trail.

Infernal:
"It's delicious, maybe I can still get one."
Infernal and Linguistics DC 13:
"They really do look tasty. Maybe I can grab one if they let me come down all the way. I'm sure I can run faster than them."

Ancient Hut

Once you determined it is untrapped, you're able to search the interior of the hut which is noticeably less maintained than the exterior. All you find are bits of an old chair carved from a tree stump, fragments of fabric, and rusted bits of metal. However you do spot a thin, leather-bound journal wedged in a sheltered niche. Sadly the humid weather of the Shiv hasn't been kind to the paper. You think you'll be able to get done fragments of text with a little time but most is lost.

Cannibal Lair

Having a direction to search, you are able to locate the cannibal lair without much difficulty and, perhaps more importantly, ate able to find a elevation to scope out the camp. Most impressive is the stone lighthouse that shadows most of the cannibal camp. There are about six Hut structures ranging out from the lighthouse and you notice between one and two dozen people in the camp you given time.

Áine nods. "Well,

1) You guys could hide and I could get closer, expose myself...er, I mean accidentally walk too close to camp following a game trail, yell in surprise and run back here, or
2) I could probably sneak in at night and take a few out, maybe get a bunch of 'em to chase me back here, I know I've got better'n average night vision and they sure as heck are not going to be able to track me through the jungle if I can keep some distance, or
3) I could probably scout out the place tonight, then get everybody close enough to maybe attack at first light. Start burning the huts to sew confusion, and take them out as opportunity presents. We'd still be in range of the stone tower though."
she tilts her head at an angle considering, "Yeah, I know they're probably really familiar with these game trails, but...I'd still be good with any of those. What do you guys think?"
I asked the GM and she said we need to use the spyglass to see what's going on in the camp from where we are.

Gm:

Looks like Áine will spend a few hours studying the cannibal camp, then ask Sasha or someone with perception and patience to do likewise and see if there are any clues about prisoners in the camp and where they might be held. Also, are there any animals or other creatures in the camp?
She will spend a few hours resting, then take the time to clean herself and reduce her scent trail and disguise any remaining odor with herbs or plants from the area before heading out at dusk. She will take her time and be careful while scouting out the area between and around the cannibal camp. Do they have any posted guards? Are there any traps? If so, where are they located? Finally, are there any clues as to when/ where the ritual takes place?

Points of advantage:
1) Favored Terrain: +2 to Perception, Survival, Stealth, Geography, leaves no trail and cannot be tracked
2) Perception +8+2, Stealth +8+2, Survival +9+2
3) Darkvision 60'
4) familiarity with cannibals traps
5) they don't yet know we're here (hopefully)

Faith Dagger! or Perception DC 15:
Jask rocks back on his heels. "So," Jask says considerately, "If you were to fall in love, you would be expected to sacrifice that happiness or just need to be willing to if it was needed for the destruction of evil?"

Reading - To Allay Boredom

Brine Demon Journals:
The journals off of the Brine Demon is an ongoing conspiracy between one Captain Kinkairian and a half dozen Sargavan and Bloodcove government officials to skim money from tithes and taxes offered to the Free Captains of the Shackles.

Jask, on hearing some of the names, becomes interested and reads to the journals front to back. At one point you hear him mutter "You f@**er" with a broken laugh.

Nightvoice Captain's Log:
With much of the mold dying following the death of the violet fungus of demon persuasion, you are able to make out a great deal of the journey of the Nightvoice - a Pathfinder ship (which Gelik mentions with some excitement when the tale of the Grey Island is told. There is a some interesting information regarding exploration in southern Garund.

Gelik, hearing the fate of the crew, looks thoughtful.

Journal from the Abandoned Hut:
See discord.

Before the Hut, Just a Little

Faith: As appropriate, you just barely manage to finish your prayer as the man makes it to the dirt of the gametrail.

The man smiles broadly at the group, eyes bright, teeth filed into sharp points. Tone friendly, "من کمی پخته شده ام و به نظر می آید که پروتئین خوبی تولید می کنید. لطفا با من بیایید و ما را به عنوان گوشت گاو کشتار خواهیم کرد و خمیر را خوب بخریم."

Infernal:
"I'm cooked a bit and it looks like you produce a good protein. Please come with me and we will kill us as beef and buy the dough well.."
Infernal and Linguistics DC 12:
"I am a bit peckish and you look like you'd make a good protein. Please come with me and we will slaughter you like beef and make a good stew."

Cannibal Lair

When Áine reports back from her scouting mission she is able to inform you (probably with some relief) that there are no prisoners in the either pit, although there is a halfling sized egg near the firepit in the center of the encampment. She does report that they have a Shiv dragon guarding the pathway from game trail to settlement.

Disturbingly to Áine, the pen abutting the forest on the eastern end of the camp is filled with standing skeletons. There is also a covered platform on thick stilts (V4) which seems to be a guard post.

She couldn't find any indication of when the ritual takes place, but she did find a lot of red clay on the walls, even though the ground in around the camp is more normally brown. There did seem a great deal of reverence whenever one of the cannibals passed the pile of wood near the base of the lighthouse.

Unusual for the snarky halfling, he looks embarrassed, "If we can get back to civilization, and not a cannibal paradise isle one, it would be helpful in ... clearing up ... some issues that I had with the Society."

Cannibal Settlement

Early in the morning after Áine finishes her ladder (so that you can enter the complex over the refuse pit), a larger group* of cannibals leave the settlement together. Most noticeably there is one that is a bit taller with a shock of orange-red hair who leads the dozen cannibals.

Entering over the refuse pit proves easy, allowing entry to the open air pen that abuts the pit. Numerous stakes driven deep into the ground no doubt provide secure points for holding prisoners. Above, overlooking the prisoner pen, you can see into a bloodstained butcher, table built just high enough that those held in the pen could see exactly what is done to those who die first.

The butchery contains two blood-stained tables, but not much else. Two doors lead out to the north on opposite ends of the long room.

Perception DC 15:
You hear some quiet talking beyond the more westerly door.

*The number of cannibals leaving is not unusual, but that they are all leaving together isn't standard for what you've seen over the last day or two.

Faith attempts a grapple. The man, big ass knife still in the shealth at the small of his back, bats at the warpriest with a hand, eyes going hard. Faith doesn't quite manage to get a hold on the wire strong savage.

Áine:
I'm not sure if that would count as what you were waiting for, or if Áine is waiting for an attempt at an attack (you can keep the roll if you'd like).

Crow's Teeth

Tulip attempts to chomp on the monster, but is highly distracted by the carrion smell coming off Sasha.

Áine mutters to herself as she launches two arrows, "Yup. Still hate 'em." and as she fires she adds assuringly, "Don't worry Red, we gotchu." Both of Áine's arrows sink home in what might be important areas of the undead. But they are undead so who knows how significant the damage is.

Faith triggers Holy Strike and moves into position next to the man.

Zaine fires the musket with an almost perfect shot, taking a large chunk of the undead's shoulder rather than the creature's head.

Cannibal Settlement

Now set, Áine fires, pauses while drawing a 2nd arrow to watch her arrow thud into a wall, then fires again, this time to deadly affect. The arrow skewering the further cannibal through the eye, dropping him the ground.

Faith again says hello to the cannibal via the point of his Dagger - this time with flanking (from Sasha).

Zaine's whip snakes out, wrapping around the ankle of the unwounded not-dead man and pulling tight. Then, with a yank, Zaine tries to dump the man on his ass.

Then Tulip proceeds to chomp the prone cannibal, apparently she can fit a head in her mouth. For a moment.

Both guards fall, not having had a chance to call out a warning of any kind to the settlement.

Sasha twirls her kukri, "Welp, don't think you actually need me here." She checks over the bodies for keys or anything of useful value.

Moving through the (unlocked) door that doesn't lead outside, you find what looks like a meeting room. There seems to be many pentagrams - a motif which was mimicked in the cannibal's skin in the previous room.

Two doors and stairs lead out of this meeting room.

A) Perception DC 15:

A) Perception DC 20:
You do hear the slightest amount of sound of something moving on the stone floor above your head.

The man looks from Áine motioning then to Faith, still standing right next to him, and he attempts to flee. Faith reaches out to grab the cannibal but he is just a tad too slow to catch the slippery cannibal. The cannibal gets about 30 feet down the game trail and seems to be looking for a means to get out of your immediate vicinity.

Crow's teeth

Tulip, hooting dismay, strikes again. This time her razor sharp teeth sink into undead flesh tearing off another chunk of the creature.

"Time for you to die permanently, please." Áine says, firing two more arrows at their opponent, then curses softly as her arrows go astray. "Dammit. Move when I expect you to move." she glares at the undead.

Faith attacks the undead with his dagger. He grins as he stabs. The undead grins back as strike misses.

Zaine quickly reloads with a paper cartridge and then fires again. The shot goes wide, blasting a hole through the wooden wall of the hold. Allowing in more light but not damaging the undead.

The undead stumbles back a step in his hands moving up in arcane gesture and suddenly waves of dark fear emanate from the creature.

Jask looks surprised, "But how can you know what results you are trying to get unless you understand the world?"

He smiles, "Granted I spent two decades of my younger life just going from place to place learning two things with absolutely no results."

Both of Áine's arrows sink home, staggering the cannibal. A few seconds later, Zaine's musket makes a odd flat sound when the hammer slams home, but with a quick slam of his hand, Zaine is rewarded with a boom from the gun - the heavy shot taking the running man to the ground. (Dead.)

Cursing under his breath, Zaine reloads with another paper cartridge and fires. As the undead step sidewides to be unthreatened so it can deliver a death blow on Sasha, Zaine's shot fires true, finishing off the very damaged undead.

Sasha remains paralyzed, stinking of rot for about a quarter of a minute. As soon as she can move, she follows in Faith's footsteps, but she stops as soon as she can breathe clean air.
