Hey hey, just started on the alias. I think I've settled on an Infiltrator with the Reformation Inquisition to really double up on the social skills.

Crunch continues slowly. Crossbows are pretty not good! But this isn't a min max combat optimization kind of campaign anyway... at least I think :)

As for allies. I'd think something as well prepared and cautious as the main temple of Abadar would send along some pretty intelligent folk.

Let's say

Professor Abrox Draflo: a scholar whose area of expertise is the region and has quite a lot of knowledge of both The Shackles and Sargava. Enthusiastic about the trip so he can meet some of his correspondents and see the region for himself for the first time. Maybe some sort of support arcane caster? Certainly someone who Queshem would consult with a lot to know as she's turned out to be way more of a diplomat rather than a knowledge monkey.

Polos: A hardy young fighter from the same Bonuwat tribe as Queshem. He's a bit younger so he was just a toddler when they fled as refugees to Absalom. They consider each other brother and sister and he wants to keep her safe as well as see their native land for the first time. A land he doesn't even remember.

Maybe Queshem can pick up some more people on the way :)

I like the NPCs. You will get new sidekicks, allies, foes and annoyances for sure! I like lots of NPC with their own agendas.

They're from the Bonuwat sub group I think that's good enough. I made another Mwangi character and just threw Zenj at the end of it.

Phew. Just finished the almost complete draft I think. Please look it over and let me know if there's anything missing.

I can see what you're saying about LG Inquisitor being a challenge. But I really want to give LG a try and she's turned out really well from a social standpoint. I put in Polyglot as a 'bonus' language cause I figured she'd know it from her childhood.

If she doesn't work out on the combat front I'm thinking of dipping ranger to get favoured enemy human as well as access to gravity bow. That plus some Vital Strike feats *should* make her crossbow a deadly deadly thing.

What do you think?

Question I have often run into, how to make a ranged combat character have fun in a fight. Thoughts? I don't want it to get repetitive.

Well, Rolling 15+ every round makes anything fun!

If there's only a few fights a day then that allows Queshem to go nova during them (as she's doing right now) which makes things exciting and inquisitors have a few ways of doing that. Ordering people about is also helping.

Might be good to get some wands so can do a little bit of utility combat casting?


Just want to make sure every round isn't "I fire my crossbow". You know?

That said, a fire on deck is something that'll keep you busy.

I guess a few questions.

What's the makeup of the Second Wind's crew? Mostly Abadarns? Generic sailors? How would they reasonably be expected to replace losses? Would it be reasonable to recruit from the ranks of the pirates or is that a big no no?

The letter of marque pretty much makes it legal for Queshem to go pirate hunting but what is a 'Lawful Good' thing to do with prisoners in this case? She's not going to keelhaul anyone who isn't a notorious pirate and she's not going to sell people into slavery so options seem limited.


Some of these are up to you...

I'd say mostly sailors hired for the task. Replacing them wouldn't be too hard, although they are probably more loyal then the average pirate crew (although with your Perform rolls, you can probably win anyone over). I don't see why recruiting from pirates is a bad idea? I mean, not everyone in your crew would like it, but it certainly will be needed.

Options for prisoners are varied, besides the obvious dump them over the side.

Take them back to Sargava for trial

Drop them off on the nearest populated island

Maroon them on a unpopulated island (start your own pirate island jail!)

Recruit from them.

Let them go, I suppose, is an option.

Anything else you can think of?

No it's all good. I just wanted to confirm that it wasn't a ship full of devout Abdarans rather than standard sailorly types.

I'm thinking use Perform Oratory when addressing groups of people but using Diplomacy for one on one?

I figured I'd play up the 'Blessed Correction' and 'Perform:Oratory' side of her mechanics :). It's weird but justifying 'crunch' really helps me role-play. It's also why she was fine with putting things to a vote. Inquisitors can out talk Druids she's pretty sure!

Cool. I figured Queshem would want to know what her mentor was up to.

Question for you. How do you think letters would be sent back and forth from sea to Absalom? I'm imagining that, while there is of course a lot of interest from the Sea Dragons on how this goes, this is pretty much an independent operation. There's just too much of a distance for anything else.

Also who would be a person who is in charge of how many crew there are and how much food there is and what cargo is being carried etc.? Don't think it should be Draflo. Would it be Queshm's responsibility?


For communication I'd imagine there are some magical options such asSending and the like, but nothing really extensive. You are mostly on your own! For now, anyway....

On a huge ship it would be a quartermaster, I'd imagine on a ship this size you'd probably know that as First Mate. I'm not planning in getting bogged down in tons of food and such.

That is a good idea! I'll keep it simple but that is good. Right now you have "More then Enough" in both ship supplies, weapons and food.

If stores were low and a lot of people had died than Queshm would have wanted to sell the ship. As it is.. hell why not. Two ships.

It's a bit difficult figuring out what a good accent for Queshem should be. The mish mash I'm coming up with makes sense but then keeping it consistent is rough.

Not really? This is rapidly turning into one of my favorite games! I'm not sure how many ideas I have to keep things fresh, but I'll work on it.

The political aspect of gaining allies will be a big part but Queshem knows that.

Probably. Not all fights can be won, after all.

Granted, I will hesitate to actually kill you, but you'd be surprised what you can live through.

Do you swim out and try to take everyone?

Do you make a panicked run for the boats?

I don't think Queshem can abide leaving people to be tortured into beast soldiers. I don't see any way out that doesn't make Queshem's story a very short one of someone who was swallowed by the Shackles.
