Hah, and I spent 15 minutes looking through my boons before I noticed your post.
"Excellent thinking, Mister Gallix! I will acquire scrolls of Break Enchantment and Protection from Evil immediately."
Break Enchantment costs 1125, Prot Evil costs 25. I can use the Break Enchantment scroll by making a DC 9 Caster Level check, so I can't fail that.
Sir D. Arthraven |
Hearing Siretti analyze the situation, D. comes away from leaning against the wall.
In a whispering tone, he speaks to the possessed man, aiming to disrupt, or weaken in the least, the concentration of the mind control, in aiding to Gallix. Deliberately avoiding speaking of 'we'.
A mere DC 15 perception to hear the disembodied whispered words.
Priestess is in for more spooky stuff. ^^
"Now look here, you demonic witch. I was here first.
This man's mine, and by everything holy and unholy, i'll have your head -your own real head- if you continue with this."
"Cause i will look for you,
I will find you,
and i will kill you."
D. adds as much tone of serious killing intent in his words as he can.

Oh, do we know where Xersus is? He did mention we should contact him if there is trouble, right? If not I'll go buy some scrolls.
Stali One-Penny |
Osprey is at the Grand Lodge but we were not told for Xersus. I expect Osprey knows.
Uesugi Hideyoshi |
Uesugi nods at the Barbarian's quick thinking. "Spirit I am not fond of you traveling by yourself with the demon about so be back quickly or I shall come looking for you." With that the samurai stands guard over the possessed priest.

Gallix calls on the monadic deva Aquel, who appears in a blinding shimmering light and lays his hands on Brother Dunnamast, blessing him with protection from evil. "Begone, foul demon! Be purged from this man's mind!"
He disappears as quickly as he came in. The clerics love the display, and look at Gallix in awe.
Meanwhile, Sir D whispers determined words into Brother Dunnamast's ears while invisible. Saphira takes a few steps back, thinking it must be the demon again.
The effects seem to work, and some normal color returns to the cleric's body, but an Abyssal curse word still slips out of his mouth every few moments. It appears for now, the bleeding has stopped, but it's only a matter of time before it starts again.
Sirettis takes to the skies as quickly as she can and flies over to Osprey, conveniently only five minutes away. Being told the news, he rushes to round up Xersus and the duo teleport in, Sirettis returning shortly after.
The gnome quickly examines the corpse, listening to your explanation of what's happened. His face twists with consternation.
"I see," he says. He opens a black case filled with weird brass devices, crystals, incense, and other tools, and the proceeds to inspect Dunnamast’s body. He circles it, muttering to himself as he rapidly scribbles notes into a weathered looking tome.
Ten minutes pass with Xersus studying his patient with trance-like intensity. He wipes his brow and looks worriedly toward you. "I need to perform an extraction."
"Extraction involves psychic projection. I shall enter a trancelike state in which I project myself into the psychic realm where Dunnamast suffers. I’m not sure what is attacking him, and thus far have only ever heard tales of the dream realm’s connection to shapeless, primordial demons. I seriously doubted their existence until this moment. In order to succeed in this task, I’ll need all of your help. The realm of dreams and nightmares is both maddening and deadly, and I cannot guarantee your life or sanity should you choose to join me. Without your help, though, Brother Dunnamast will die.”
No sooner had Xersus said 'die' than Osprey threw his arm up to volunteer. "You can count me in."
Stali One-Penny |
“Would it help to know what the creature bragged about?” Stali asks Xersus. Pointing to Sirettis he says “She understood the words, and it might give you a further clue as to your foe.”
“As for helping, I have no magical abilities. How can I help?” He seems honestly curious as to what he could do.
Sirettis |
"Of course we will help." Sirettis nods. "It will be a great risk, but this is why we came here- to expel the demon. I can recite what it mumbled, but I must warn you it is quite vulgar."
Mr. Peppers |
Mr Peppers watches the Gnome go about his business closely, very closely, as he examines the man with his strange tools and oddities. What sort of check can I make to know if this guy is legit with all these Gnomish 'fangdoodles'? The great MR Peppers would not let someone such as this pull a fast one on him.
"I will do what I can to aid you here. We've traveled through time, through space, to planes of air, earth, and water. I can't imagine traveling through dreams and one's mind is much different." He watches along like a hawk.
Uesugi Hideyoshi |
Uesugi nods his face is grim as weighs Mr. Peppers' words. "We will assist as best as we can. If we are to walk through another man's thoughts is there any danger we can cause him while doing this? I would not want this turned to lunacy because we did something to him unknowingly."

Though the glow of Aquel's blessing faded from his several minutes ago, Gallix still stands over Brother Dunnamast in a saintly pose, with his arms out at his sides, palms upturned. "Yes," he says in a dreamy voice, "We will aid you in this. For we have traveled to many worlds and made safe the realms we have once visited. We will do the same today."
GM Red |
Probably a Sense Motive check, Peps.
High Priestess Saphira doesn't offer to partake in the plan, fearing getting too close to a demon, but several of her loyal initiates step up, and Xersus instructs them. "While we're in there, you and the initiates need to speak with Brother Dunnamast. Ask him why he's in this state, and what happened in Cayden's Hall," he says to Osprey and the clerics.
Then he addresses you. "How can you help? Well, you will need to... Keep the demon at bay. That's right. There's a demon in there, and I expect it will have none of us interfering in whatever it's trying to do."
Once everyone is ready, Xersus sets up a set of devices and tools in a circle and lights a dozen sticks of incense. "If you're ready, form a circle around me."
He begins to weave a strange spell.
The spell is some sort of powerful conjuration spell from the teleportation subschool.
Sirettis |
"Of course the demon would resist." Sirettis applies a wand of Mage Armor to herself.
She casts Heroism upon Mister Gallix, and Perceive Cues upon herself.
"I am ready. Let us begin."

Stali draws the cold iron dueling sword and goes into a ready stance. He cranes his neck back and forth, looking for danger in all directions.
Uesugi Hideyoshi |
Uesugi nods wondering what is in store for them in the halls of this man's mind.
Stali One-Penny |
Fortunately Stali is a follower of Alseta, The Welcomer. Goddess of doors, transitions, and years.
He understands doors and how to open them.
GM Red |
Mr. Peppers senses that Xersus isn't attempting to be dishonest. With everyone holding hands in the circle, the gnome continues his strange incantation. Moments later, you feel your body turning ice cold. Your vision blurs, and all color washes to a dull gray.
The surroundings fade and soon nothing exists but a dull, twilight void. You feel the sensation of falling first, but then you come to an abrupt halt, and you're suddenly floating. In the void, dark shadows solidify around you, and you're able to see yourselves in dull gray hovering above Brother Dunnamast's still form.
Xersus is positioned at Dunnamast’s head, holding him gingerly by the temples, and Osprey is at his feet. Thick, ropey tendrils of color thread through the priest's translucent form. Xersus begins a slow, peaceful chant. The cleric’s body seems to relax, but then... Suddenly, the cleric’s jaw drops and alien tendrils erupt from his mouth directly into the gnome’s face.
"BLEUGH!" Xersus yelps. He slowly fades and disappears from the dream realm.
And then the cloud of smokey tendrils turn on their next target, which happens to be yourselves and Osprey...
Osprey touches his necklace and is instantly surrounded by a mysterious shimmering force. "This protective ward will stop it from attacking me, but it will not last long. You guys fend off that thing. I'll interrogate Brother Dunnamast."
A note about this upcoming fight. Items expended while in the dream realm are not expended outside of it. You're also under the effects of air walk while inside, though if you can fly/swim, you can do so normally.
Stali One-Penny |
Is there a map?
Having to sheath his sword in order to hold hands, Stali immediately draws it once it seemed they had arrived.
As the tentacles erupt from the priest, Stali comments “Demonic calimari, great!” as he moves to protect others from it.

Sirettis grins as they enter the realm. Which is odd, she hasn't really smiled like this. You hear another voice coming from nearby her.
<What a pleasant realm... I wouldn't mind staying here forever.>
"We are here for Brother Dunnamast, but... it's comforting." Sirettis replies.
<Oh, what is that awful thing? Destroy it, now. Or let you so-called friends destroy it.>
"Don't embarrass yourself, you can't even reach me here." It's not clear if Sirettis is fully aware of your presence or the argument she's having with herself.

Though the negative energy bolts definitely hit the tendril demon, it reacts little to the attack.
Sirettis knows that these creatures have no weaknesses outside of what a demon would ordinarily be weak to.
You overhear Brother Dunnamast mumbling answers to Osprey's questions.
The tentacle beast points one tentacle at each of you, and then, you're overcome with an intense sense of fear. Each of you see the creature or beast that you most fear suddenly appear in front of you.

Sirettis, D, and Stali believe the phantasmal image in front of them is real. But hey, at least they're still alive!

Mr. Peppers |
Mr Peppers floats back a bit further, out of what he can estimate is the creature's reach and casts a spell. He flings a bit of butter at Uesugi, which amazingly strikes unerringly, coating his armor with a greasy film. "Slip out of those bonds my friend, before you go down!"
Greasing up Sugi.
Uesugi Hideyoshi |
Uesugi steels his will and fights off the feeling of his mind being crushed from within. "Whatever you are beast...you...will...know...true...pain...KIIIIIIII-YA!"

Mr. Peppers starts to oil Uesugi up, but Uesugi has no interest in lubricating himself for the tentacle monster, so tall, dark, and kinky cancels his magic.
Then Gallix smacks both fists together in a taunting display, lunging at the primordial demon with a set of shocking fists that detach two tentacles from its mass. Wrapped up in tentacles, Uesugi aims his katana awkwardly yet manages to slice the three remaining tentacles from the demon, killing it.
Just as the demon dies, the entire world shudders around Uesugi, Mr. Peppers, and Gallix, and before they can blink once more, they reawaken next to Sirettis, Stali, and Sir D.
... And Brother Dunnamast, who slowly opens his eyes with a low grumble. "I.. I'm alive.."
The High Priestess rushes over and lays glowing palms on him, while Osprey leans down and places a hand on Uesugi's shoulder. "Amazing. Truly, I thought you were all going to 'die' for sure. Yet here we are. Hah!"
Your success here earned you that second Prestige point you'd otherwise not get
Uesugi Hideyoshi |
"Death? Whatever would have happened to us in there would have made death too pleasant I think." Turning his attention to Brother Dunnamast Uesugi stands up and looks to the High Priestess "How is the priest? Does he know what happened to him?"
Sirettis |
"I am... disappointed I was not able to help you." Sirettis bows, shamefully. "But it seems like you did it."
She looks at Brother Dunnamast. "It is good to see you alive, Brother Dunnamast. Cayden's Hall, esteemed Pathfinders and the Red Arm of Absalom all joined forces to save you."
