Figured this way there was some meat to them without being three days of negotiations.
Cost is 33%, cost-and-a-half is 50%, so negotiating for 50% of what we're selling is worth to buy, which is standard.

There seems to be some confusion here. Only one slaver survived. The boy whose family was enslaved is the only one. He is about to be executed in the town square.

I thought we had another slaver as well - the one that we questioned who had gone down from the ray of frost.

We wouldn't have turned the boy over to the guards as one of the slavers. We put him back with his family.


The one you took out with the ray of frost was the boy. Sorry for the confusion. I was just assuming that you were being rough with him because you didn't necessarily believe his whole story.

No, we told him to go be with his family and we were going to let him escort the ex-slaves back to PIren's Bluff alone initially, then we decided to go back to town too. I thought there was another prisoner...


How far back do we need to go? We'll need to wait for everyone's input, but I see 2 easy options. We can (1)go back and redo the conversation with the captain, or we can (2)just say that Kern escorted the boy/slaver away without any room for argument.

My opinion is that we just say we sent the boy with the other freed slaves and told the guards that we have no captive. So there'd be no need for the execution... but we'd still need to meet with the guard captain in the morning to possibly get aid from the baron.

Anyway - that's my 2 cents.

it would negate a few posts, including some of mine, but i'm okay with that.


Basically, here's the story: regardless of whether or not you turned the boy over as a captive or as an ex-slave, he's going to end up being sentenced to death. If you turn him over as a slaver, the captain will execute him for that. If you turn him over as a slave, the captain will notice the boy's tattoos, see that he was a slaver, and have him executed anyway.

The following knowledge is strictly out-of-character, since the party would have no way of knowing it.
The slavers tattoo themselves with distinctive, sharp designs, starting on the chest and stemming out until they cover the entire body. The boy was forced to undergo the first steps of tattooing by the rest of the band, but his markings were confined to his chest. While the guard captain and a few guards were helping the slaves get settled in, the boy took off his shirt absentmindedly and the captain noticed the tattoos which betrayed the boy's recent past.

I think the only post that doesn't fit is Masao's last post on page 3.

Now, Masao, I certainly don't want to put words in your mouth, but it seems that, hearing the execution, Masao would have quickly gone to rouse Arwen and then the party would have made its way to the town square to try to halt the execution anyway. If that's the case, Arwen's and Samant's posts on page 4 still make sense.

well, if the guy pulls the lever anyway - having the rope cut will prevent him from breaking his neck - and you can catch him to prevent him from breaking a leg or two.

Are you sure? Hob hasn't learnt any yet, so I have been loading in cantrips as first level spells.

Yeah, since mundane gear is less useful for casters, I'm adding in 1st level spells to simulate quick growth. However you acquire spells, do that next time you have the chance. For example, Arwen took a visit to his chapel and came out with some new spells, since he's a cleric. Perhaps the smith could show you some runes that he doesn't understand and let you keep them, since you know how to use them. However you like, just know that half of your 1st level spells are now on the table.

apparently we have them in our spellbooks, maybe we just didn't understand them fully yet? I don't know the explanation, i'm just glad we can learn them. or i should say 'it' since half of 2 is only 1 :(

Now when you say we have half, do you mean we KNOW half of what we are supposed to know at 1st lvl (which is 5 spells for Masao, halved would be two) or we can MEMORIZE half of our 1st lvl spells (which would be 2 divided in half for 1). Just want to clarify so I know.


Whatever works for your fluff, but you can only use half the number of slots you normally would, in your case 1. If you want to say that you had 5 in your book all along and only now understand some of them, that's fine, too.

ok... so we can memorize half... that clears it up for me... I'm gonna say all four (actually - mis-added) are in his book, maybe they just weren't clear to him til now? After all, 1st lvl spells are more complex than cantrips. So now he can memorize one of them given time. I just hope we GET some time lol

That means three transcribed spells, and I'm guessing 1 spell +1 domain.
There are some spells that seem to easily match his augmentation focus

Masao, Kern is the guard you met last night, the captain is yet to be named. I'll start being more proactive about naming these folks to eliminate the confusion. From now on, the captain's name is Shiff. He is te one who tried to execute the boy, whose name is Phill. The guard you met at the gate, and who just spoke to you is named Kern, and the Baron is called Galdur.

something like that - someone saw his tattoos and made the assumption - we had actually brought him in with his parents and a guard saw the tattoos - how did they know the slavers all had tattoos i wonder... a lot of confusion here, but Masao didn't think of that himself lol
