Kick the can is always good to prepare for battle, not sure if we have a can though.

The tiefling stands up, stretching lazily - "I really needed that" - he looks around and it seems everyone is acting pretty much the same way - we had no watches? - he ponders to himself, then smiles at their blind luck for still being alive.
Did this rest allow us to level up Grimmy?
Turning to the others, and getting his gear ready, he comments - "Shall we get moving ladies and gentlemen?"

Technically, Trangles never needs to sleep, he is a plant. So there really was a watch, although I forgot to mention this and Trangles was probably not the best conversationalist for Hound to help keep him awake.

After a morning cock-a-doodle-doo, Q feels refreshed and ready to head off, but looks pensive. "We should go, there's no telling who's heard that." He then gathers his bow and does a quick look around the campsite before moving to point.

You can see for a couple of miles, more if you go to higher ground. You can actually make out where the cottage is. No dark cloud, no smokestack.

Raziel throws a sidelong glance at Krull, trying to size up the man - "I've got some yes, but for now I think we should do our best to stray away from it - I have the feeling it may cause some sort of addiction. Or worse..." - he then smiles - "You'll be fine - we've got your back"

I found this bear just lying around. Enough for all of us.
The party travels at half speed while Hound forages but the bear is delicious.
Around 6PM the band is pretty tuckered out and the river basin where Killian's men were encountered is still about an hour away.

Approaching the approximate location where Killian relieved them of their horses, the party comes across a circles of pines with a bed of red needles carpeting the ground. A fire pit has been built, and a black iron kettle pot rests above it.
On the nearby stump of a felled tree sits a human head and a pair of tongs.

This is my first wisdom based character that's had perception as a class skill... I love these rolls so much
Q notices a lot of gore around the tree stump, and a trail leading away from the circle of pines. He hears a bubbling spring in the distance and some murmuring voices beside it.
He sees some kindling and tinder-twigs and a pile of teeth beside the kettle.
"Someone is about to cook a head?" - Raziel stands momentarily in place, staring at the scenario, but then almost keels over laughing at his companion's comments.
Regaining his composure, and being one for action, he decides to look for an avenue of approaching to take a closer look - "No more jesting now, I don't want to burst into laughter across the way" - he winks and moves off.
Stealth: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (10) + 10 = 20
Reaching the pot, Raziel finds it full of shallots and leeks, but no water.
There are about 120 freshly pulled teeth on an embroidered cloth next to the kettle.

"Then they wouldn't have cut off the head yet. Either that, or the head is all that's left. Look around for any tools or weapons. I don't expect that they'd have left them unattended, but we've been way too lucky thus far for it to continue. And I shouldn't have to say to keep an eye out for anything else that might seem important."
