Aoife watches over Ruadhán's shoulder intensely. While she couldn't read, she paid close attention to where he was pointing and tried to remember those marking with those words. "We maybe seen if we go that way though no?" She asked after Ruadhán was done explaining. "The last time we tried to take the long way around we lost a day... I say we risk being seen. We can't afford to lose time." Aoife shrugged simply.

We still roll stealth to try and get past?

"That sounds like sense to me, time is the biggest factor here. Although we should still take precautions. Let me ride a ways ahead, not only is that what I do, but also no-one knows my connection to you, which may help if we are surprised. If you here me shout 'Rabbit', hide."

Thorun's stealth: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (3) + 9 = 12

Ruadhan, Thorun, and Aoife ride with haste from Tuaim, through Belcoo, and into the pass that leads through the mountains. Riding ahead, Ruadhan ensures that the path is clear. The sky is blue and with Boho being only over a mile away, the risk of being seen is very real.

Encounter: 1d100 ⇒ 45

God is with them. They ride northeast towards Ross Lough and cross the Sillees river upstream of the lake in order to reach the north shore. Together, Aoife and Thorun search for and find where they had set their ambush. From there, they go southeast, downhill towards the shore.

They search for the most likely place to set camp near Ross Lough, and Aoife finds a copse of trees where a fire was burning as recently as this morning. But there is no one nearby...

"Hmm, it is pretty well trodden, I can see where they rested, but I am struggling to pick up where they went."

Clearly, someone was here but there are no tracks to be found in this rocky terrain... With the sun soon to set to the West, the question becomes: if Nial O'Fialain did indeed set camp here last night, will he return tonight?

Do you wish to wait here, attempt to find him elsewhere, or return to Tuaim?

Perception: 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (9) - 1 = 8

After a few moments of looking around finding nothing herself Aoife rubbed the back of her neck as she tried to settle on an idea of what to do. "... Thorun, you know I'm not the most wise person but... if I left you and Ruadhán and went to the surrounding areas to see if I could find Nial, do you think you could be loud enough to draw me back here should he return before I do?" She asked.

" Well I'm no tactician, but something we have used when .. err scouting, definitely not raiding." the fake coy smile barely hides the cheeky grin behind. "Well what we have done, is station a halfway person. Aoife, if you search and then Thorun you wait here, I can play piggy in the middle and pass shouts along. "I'm more worried about Nial coming upon you while alone and since he doesn't know you, reacting poorly." She explained. "Tis why I wished to keep you close to Thorun or myself and since you and Thorun have a history I thought you'd like to sit a talk for a bit."

Bear in mind that you are still only a few miles away from Boho, so if you start shouting you may draw unwanted attention...

"Well that probably depends on who I was raiding, doesn't it now. But anyway, you don't need to worry about me, I can look after myself and I can just tell him I am travelling with you two anyway. Nevermind I will stay here with Thorun, someone has to stop him getting into trouble." When Thorun makes his suggestion, "Aye, that is a good idea. Hmm maybe for next time I will pick up a whistle, it might come in handy in the future."

Not that it changes the result under the circumstances, but for the record, I would allow Take 10 but not Take 20.

Taking her time, Aoife searches the vicinity for tracks but finds none. She returns to the camp and rejoins with her companions...

"We might as well, we won't find him in the dark. We could try a couple of things though. This copse of trees will shield us, but some light will escape from a fire. So we either have no fire and hide, hoping that whoever camped returns, but I think we will probably already have been seen. The other option is we light the fire, we will be visible, which may scare them off, or attract them in. We then either wait with one on watch, which could be risky, or one sits by the fire and 2 wait off in the dark. It might make us more approachable, but if they see the 2, it might scare them off. You two have met the guy, so it's your call."

"What are you doing here?" Nial O'Fialain asks, appearing from behind boulders uphill from the camp. Clearly, he trusts the heroes of Largay enough to show himself, but he keeps his distance nonetheless.

"Nial" Aoife breathed out as she stood, the look on her face a mixture of relief and joy. "Looking for you." She answered as she waved him over. "Not to kidnapped this time I promise." She joked as settled back down. "I came to ask... why you ran" Aoife stated as she crossed her arms. "and If I can convince you to help us."

Her joke is met with not even the hint of a smile. Clearly, the events of the last few weeks weight on him heavily.

"I didn't run," Nial answers, guessing at her meaning. "What do you want from me?"

Female Human Fighter(Two-Weapon Warrior) 3/Brawler 4 AC 21, Touch 15, FF 17 | HP 53/53 | F +10, R +9, W +2 | Init +3 | Perc +11

Aoife raised an eyebrow as she noticed his face. So that's how it's going to play hmm? She thought with a shake of the head.

"Very well, if I was asking you to return and tell the Fili of the arrangement your father made with Fintan over the shard you would?" Aoife began, leaving it open ended.

Nial sighs.

"If I were to ask you to turn against your people, against your kinsmen, against your own father, what would you say?" he answers with a question.

Female Human Fighter(Two-Weapon Warrior) 3/Brawler 4 AC 21, Touch 15, FF 17 | HP 53/53 | F +10, R +9, W +2 | Init +3 | Perc +11

"Well that depends honestly." Aoife stated. "My father doesn't recognize me as his child, though Fintan wishes to get that changed. However if I was seen as my father's daughter I would have told him to choose another way. I would stick to that and I wouldn't leave. I would make my disappointment known, well known." Aoife answered as she stood from her sitting place. "I have long since been silent because I couldn't have a voice, now... if no one stands for what is right no change will ever happen! You want things to change between our people Nial?" Aoife asked as she moved foreword and leaned close to him in a nonagressive manor. "Be the change Nial. Please Nial, I know what I'm asking of you is one of the worst things I ever could... and if you can't I understand but..." Aoife locked her eyes with his. "I want to hear you say it. Look me in the eyes and tell me this is something you can not do."

"I... I can't," he admits, turning away from Aoife.

"You'll find fish near those reeds in the morning," he tells them. "Christ be with you."

With that, he turns his back to the heroes of Largay...

Female Human Fighter(Two-Weapon Warrior) 3/Brawler 4 AC 21, Touch 15, FF 17 | HP 53/53 | F +10, R +9, W +2 | Init +3 | Perc +11

Aoife grabbed Nial's wrist, not hard but sure. "Just because you're not going to help us doesn't mean you should leave your camp." She told him. "He's your father Nial, I'm jealous that you got to have one even with how terrible he is, so while I cannot say I understand how this must be for you right now... I can image how hard it is." Aoife muttered as she look at the ground. "I knew it was a long shot to come out here to find you... honestly I'm shocked God allowed me to find you at all. I expected to return to Largay without finding even a trace of you. So stay." She told him as her grip loosened. "We'll leave come morning, and you'll never have to hear from me again." Aoife reassured him.

Swayed by Aoife's compassion, Nial stops. He looks at them and decides to stay after all. He sits by the fire, and as night falls and the moon rises, he shares stories of his childhood, of a harsh father and a kind mother who died when he was a boy...

When the fire dies out, they commit to sleeping. The night is fair and the ground is dry. They sleep well and awaken well-rested in the morning. Nial easily catches a few fishes, which he prepares expertly. And then, as the sun rises, they part ways.

"All the best to you and yours," he bids them goodbye before disappearing into the hills.

Aoife, Thorun, and Ruadhan ride with haste back to Tuaim, to rejoin with Kassidy and Brother O'Maille at Killesher Church.

Brother O'Maille and Kassidy have the night to discuss the question of Sean Quinn's ordination with Father O'Maille.

Aoife shared her own stories with Nial, a way of returning the kindness he was showing by opening up to them. Even the fact she was King McGovern's bastard daughter, and how that had colored her upbringing thanks to the Queen.

"If you change your mind Nial, we have till the end of today." Aoife told him, though he could easily tell she wasn't pressuring him. "Stay safe, and remember be the change you want to see Nial. You can make things for the better, but it will only start when you decide. You can be a great man Nial, I see that in you." A small smirk pulled at her lips. "I hope I live long enough to see it." With that she joined Thorun and Ruadhán. "I'm sorry for dragging you both out here for nothing..." She sighed as they headed back.

Placing his hand on her shoulder in a comforting manner, Ruadhán speaks.
"Well you have certainly done more than most would have in this situation and you have tried your best, no-one can ask for more than that. "If Bridgett Quinn has a smug ass look on her face, no matter what, grab me if it looks like I'm going to lose it. Not losing my head over that worthless b~#%*."

Aoife, Thorun, and Ruadhan arrive in Tuaim and find Brother O'Maille and Kassidy waiting, along with the Quinns.

"My father has gone to Kilmore to discuss Sean's ordination with Bishop Thaddeus. Padraic is with him," Brother O'Maille explains. "In good faith, Sean has agreed to come with us, to testify in Boho."

Sean nods.

"You promised to keep him safe," Brigit reminds them, genuinely concerned.

"I'll be fine," Sean reassures his sister, albeit half-heartedly. They embrace and she whispers a prayer: "Christ be with you."

Brigit has tears in her eyes as she watches her brother mount his horse. Perhaps she is not so heartless, after all?

"Ready?"

Aoife noticed the Brigit's tears and can't help but sigh. She may despise the woman but she could sympathize with the worry. You're too soft to be cruel... Aoife thought to herself with a small shake of her head. "You may not care to hear it," Aoife began. "But I'll make sure he gets back safe. You've both lost a great deal already... wouldn't be right for you to lose him too." Aoife told her before she turned and nodded to Sean. "I believe that is a question I should be asking you." She commented before she gave him a nod in agreement that it was time to leave.

With that, they leave Tuaim and ride to Boho. The sky is gray but the ground is dry, and they arrive at midday. The people of Boho having seen them arrive from a distance, they are met on the outskirts of town by Airthuir, the King of Fermanagh's trusted bard.

"I insisted that I should be warned as soon as you arrive," he explains before leading them into town.

Sean's presence draws attention, but none dares break the Fili's peace. The people of Boho are gathering near the Sacred Heart Church, at the foot of the High Cross. The warriors are armed and the women and children are a distance away.

The tension is palpable. The danger is real.

Needless to say that the King of Boho is surprised to see Sean Quinn at the side of his enemies. "Traitor!" he accuses, prompting the people of Boho to rant and rave. The King is furious and his men are becoming increasingly aggressive –

"That's enough!" Airhuir commands, his voice carrying above the din.

Suddenly, Brother O'Maille falters and falls.

Brother O'Maille:
The vision comes back to you, prompted by the sight of the High Cross. You remember... The High Cross is not the same as it was. Or rather, its base is changed. In your vision, the Bullaun stone had no markings. But now, there is an ancient, weather-worn carving of five wolves howling, facing an arch in which stands a swan...

For once... thank God I didn't succeed. If this is how the treated Sean... I can only image how they would have greeted Nial.

Aoife's mind went wild with ill thoughts of how violent this could have turned if the King of Boho's own kin was before him.

Turning on her heel to see a look of worry set over her face. Aoife pulled Sean closer to the center of the group so that she could also keep an eye upon him. "Are you alright?" She asked as she looked from Ó Máille to Kassidy.

Seeing Brother O'Maille recovering, the Fili calls all to attention: "I am here to judge the cause of Largay against my Lord's subjects of Boho. Largay has returned with a witness."

"Name yourself," he addresses Sean Quinn.

"I am Sean Quinn of Belcoo. It was I who was meant to fight for Boho against Fintan of Largay – against my wishes."

"Coward!" the King of Boho bellows.

"You have had your turn to speak," the Fili interrupts the King. "Now, I would hear Sean Quinn's testimony. What were the terms of the duel?"

"Largay was promised the King's amulet if Fintan defeated me," Sean answers to the point.

"And you ran away?" The Fili asks, to be clear.

"Yes," Sean answers, ashamed.

"He cannot be trusted. He is a traitor!" O'Fialain shouts, furious.

"Be that as it may, I am convinced that Sean Quinn speaks the truth. In light of his testimony, I hereby declare that the King of Boho must give unto Largay the amulet that was promised."

Following Aoife's suggestion, but adding his own twist, Ruadhán hopes to make the fighters of Boho fall back to protect their king. With no clear shot, Ruadhán moves quickly, weaving through his allies and stepping over the fallen Fili to attack the warrior to the King's right. Move to H8, avoiding I8 and the King's Aoo.
As he moves forward he shouts "Isolate and kill the Airghialla scum king! Bluff the warriors: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (1) + 6 = 7 and breaks into a keening warcry, his short sword meanwhile seeming to leap into his hand. Moving so quickly from behind the others he is able to catch the warrior before he has a chance to react, but badly overextends himself and swings wildly.

What a start! A risky move and 3 1s!! The dice gods are punishing me for taking too long to post!
