Evengi Fasseti |
"Eftil, you know that I don't have any skills that can help you. I will have to go to the catacombs with the delegation."
Now I wish I had my bow...
As he stands to follow the delegation, Evengi grabs two of the nearest knives off the table and puts them in his belt. He then dashes after the delegates.
Rodrik von Nassau |
Rodrik moves to the door with Jobe, giving Eftil a nod as he passes. His gaze lingers longer on Milena, "I suspect you'll be needed sister, I will protect you. Work with me, mercenary, if any get through I'll draw their focus." He cracks the door open an inch and peers out.

Rodrik is using tactician to give Jobe, Xander, Eftil and Milena the Pack Attack Teamwork feat.
GM Fireclaw |
Jobe calls back to Vandrake: "Only if you think your healing magic would be helpful to any wounded. And children, the man is right. It's dangerous out there and I would be eternally guilty if children were injured or killed on my account."
Just gonna let people finalize their decisions as to where they're going before I post something bigger. The eidolon will take 1 minute to summon, correct?
Vandrake Tyrantrex |
Vandrake's eyes are drawn from the boy by Jobe's words. He surveys the others, "We cannot expect the Cardinal to defend our city and the soldiers are going with you, thus I will join you though I am ill-prepared for battle. With no other priest present, it is my duty to attend to the healing of soldiery. You shall have what healing the only priest of The Flawless Diamond Hierarchy may provide. I leave the children and delegates with you, Evengi."
Vandrake whispers a quiet prayer, bowing his head and placing his hands palm to palm, fingertip to fingertip, pointed upwards, "Unrevealed Bright One, grant us thy strength to withstand our enemies so that thy vision for the world will survive in thy servant that I may reveal it to all. In your light I shine."
GM Fireclaw |
THE DELEGATION GROUP (Evengi)
The delegation makes its way past the remains of the stained glass window which broke - Evengi notes that the image of Seleran Delar is the only one that shattered - and through a door in the back of the temple that opened into a now defunct cloister. One of the servents leads the delegation to a flight of stairs that decend into darkness. Tesla quickly conjures a source of light for the group. Down in the catacombs, it is very clear that this used to be a temple to Razgriz, as statues of martyrs sit in front of burial chambers. The mood in the delegation is tense, and Evengi finds himself alienated as the delegates begin to whisper among themselves.
GM Fireclaw |
THE DEFENSE GROUP (Rodrick, Sister Milena, Vandrake, Eftil)
Jobe strides forward and throws the doors open, to look upon a scene of chaos. Across the street from the temple is the front of a mostly-destroyed temple to Sehlash, which is currently streaming flames and smoke. Several injured or dead people lay around the ruined temple, and panicked people are flooding away from the scene. It seems like there has been some collateral damage to the street and also to the surrounding buildings.
Jobe stands almost shocked for a moment - there is no evident hostile movement towards the group - before springing once again into action. "We have to help those people and get this fire out!" Choosing to act rather than micromanage, Jobe jumps down the marble steps and hurries to the bodies lying on the ground.
GM Fireclaw |
THE MERMAID'S MAMMARY GROUP (Pravus)
The repurposed temple is still visible above the city skyline as Decimus stands in awe as the smoke poors out next to it. Pravus' wordiness finally penetrates Decimus' shock. He curses in Nethysian before saying: "I... I'm with you. Let's get as far away from that as possible. It seems we dodged an arrow here and I've no intention to pick it up from the ground and stab it back into myself. And I could use a drink. Lead the way."
GM Fireclaw |
THE TEMPLE GROUP (Lysi, Arry)
One of the servants, a blonde-haired young man, approaches the pair as Lysi stands near Arry to defend him. He says: "You children should hurry to the catacombs, it's not safe here."
Elysia "Lysi" Lyon |
THE TEMPLE GROUP (Lysi, Arry)
One of the servants, a blonde-haired young man, approaches the pair as Lysi stands near Arry to defend him. He says: "You children should hurry to the catacombs, it's not safe here."
"There's no guarantee that it's safe there either," she said, stubbornly standing guard over her brother. "Arry is bringing some help in case we need it."
Arawn "Arry" Lyon |
"....return to my side, Diricawl Gryph!" Arry whispers, the symbol on his forehead flaring brightly. When the lights dulls down to a faint glow, a large, bird-like creature is standing next to Arry and looking around, the same symbol on it's head.
In case anyone is interested, Diricawl looks like a rust red Axebeak.
"Diri! We're at that place I told you about. Some people are attacking and there was a huge explosion! Can you help?"
"I will protect you and Arry'ssister." The large bird squawks. "Find safe place though, makes protecting you easier."
"Okay. Lysi, let's go to the catacombs. Can you lead us there?" He asks the blond servant.
Evengi Fasseti |
Evengi looks around for a way out of the catacombs.
I certainly don't want to get trapped down here if the whole temple comes down...or if the attackers come down the stairs. I could use a better weapon too.
Evengi looks ruefully at the sharp dinner knives that he filched.
[i]Let's see, if I was a way out, where would I hide?[/b]
Evengi starts poking around the tomb, pointedly ignoring the delegates.

Pravus Malum |
Pravus smiled widely as he walked away from the madness.
"Sweet! I'm incredibly glad to hear that you don't want to go back to that mess! Can you imagine what the others are doing right now? They're probably running around like chickens with their heads cut off, trying to defend their honor or some nonsense, than having the good sense to run away and figure it out later! I'm a card carrying member of the cowards club myself...and here we are! The Mermaid's Mammary!"
Pravus gestured to a building in front of him. He then stepped inside, and soaked in the depravity with a large inhale of breath.
"BLAH! It's filled with smoke! Who thinks smoking is a perfectly good habit?"
Um...you do? You love sucking a cigar down at least once a day.
"Oh, wait, I DO like smoking! Here, Decimus, have a seat. Waiter! Oh waiter! Food and drink for me and my friend!"
Pravus pulled out a cheap cigar, and patted himself up and down looking for a match. He turned to Decimus.
"Decimus! Gotta light? Oh! How rude of me, would you like one?"
He threw his feet up on the table, confident no one would object this time.
"Damn straight no one is going to chastise me here! Look at that lady, she's got both feet up on the table, and is dancing! Decimus, here is a slice of real life. Rogues, Scoundrels, Sailors, Workers, and the worst of the all, Adventurers! If you'd like, we could invite them to play a drinking game, or sing a song, or, a classic, I could throw the table over and start a bar fight! What suits your fancy Decimus? You just state the activity, and your pal Pravus will start the depravity!"
GM Fireclaw |
THE TEMPLE GROUP (Arry, Lysi)
The servant looks extremely startled when Diri shows up, but quickly regains his composure, and motions the children to follow him. As he enters the cloister, he stops suddenly. The children spot a group of men dressed in black who had just got down the staircase.
GM Fireclaw |
THE CATACOMB GROUP (Evengi)
As Evengi searches the catacombs, he doesn't think there's a way out other than the way they came in. He can hear another group coming down the stairs.
GM Fireclaw |
THE STREETS GROUP (Milena, Vandrake, Eftil, Rodrick)
Milena manages to get the assistance of several bystanders in moving the wounded closer to Vandrake. The positive energy radiating from the man satunches the flow of blood of many of the wounded, but some people are beyond help (already dead).
As Eftil glances around, he sees crowds of people fleeing away from the carnage. He doesn't spot anything particularly suspicious.
Rodrick sees someone dressed as a priest, but he's either unconscious or dead. One of the bystanders helping Milena shouts: "I don't see the high priest, he may still be in the temple, but you'd have to be insane to go in there!" His assessment of the danger of the temple seems to be fairly accurate, as the intense blaze looks to start spreading to nearby buildings.
As Jobe examines the carnage, he looks at the fire, seeing that it is starting to spread. "Dammit! If the fire spreads from there it could burn half the city! We need to get this under control. You there!" Jobe snaps to one of the people just finished helping Milena. "We need water, run to the Temple of Corail and bring priests to conjure water for us!"
Evengi Fasseti |
"You back there, shut up. If you have a weapon, get over here and stand ready, someone is coming down the stairs, and it is uncertain if they are friend or fiend."
Evengi draws his daggers and stands ready.
If the bottom of the stairs is narrow enough that one person can block it, Evengi will move forward to keep anyone from advancing into the tomb.
Eftil Apaltic |
Rodrick sees someone dressed as a priest, but he's either unconscious or dead. One of the bystanders helping Milena shouts: "I don't see the high priest, he may still be in the temple, but you'd have to be insane to go in there!" His assessment of the danger of the temple seems to be fairly accurate, as the intense blaze looks to start spreading to nearby buildings.
"On it." Eftil runs past the others and into the temple, unless somebody tries to stop him.
Vandrake Tyrantrex |
Vandrake yells, "Bring me some receptacles. I shall call forth water for use."
When the receptacles are brought, he begins praying himself hoarse, drinking a little water to keep his throat from drying. He calls forth two gallons of water a prayer into whatever bucket is able to contain it.
Rodrik von Nassau |
Rodrik sees Milena and Eftil preparing to enter the blaze, with Vandrake's help.
"Don't be crazy! That's an inferno, you won't last half a minute in there. I'll send a runner to find a priest who can protect us from the elements. Otherwise we'll need to find another way in. The fire shouldn't have had time to spread to the other parts of the temple, we need to find an alternate entrance to help those trapped, a window or something around back." Rodrik intercepts several nearby peasants and commands them to seek out each temple and bring priests back.
1d20 + 6 ⇒ (13) + 6 = 19
"I need you to spread word. Get as many mages and priests here as possible, we need water and elemental protection. Lives are at stake. The city itself is at stake! Go!"
GM Fireclaw |
THE MERMAID'S MAMMARY GROUP (Pravus)
Decimus sits down next to Pravus and takes the offered cigar. He snaps his fingers and a small flame appears at the tip, which he uses to light both Pravus' cigar and his own, before coughing violently. Once the coughing fit is done, he sits up straight and smiles: "Couldn't spring for some fine Aerili tobacco could you?" Despite his objections, Decimus continues smoking the cheap cigar.
Decimus looks around the room at Pravus' mention of depravity. "If I don't say so myself, I'm quite the card player, perhaps we could convince some of the fine gentlemen to join us in a game?"
GM Fireclaw |
THE STREETS GROUP (Rodrick, Vandrake)
Buckets are being produced and Jobe is quickly trying to form a bucket chain, and is rather efficient at it. It is not difficult to tell that Jobe used to be a military man by the way he snaps orders and gets things organized.
Rodrick is able to send people running in different directions without panicking them, with promises to return shortly with firefighting equipment and personnel.
Vandrake is the only one currently present conjuring water, and his continued efforts are vital to the firefighting.
GM Fireclaw |
THE BURNING BUILDING GROUP (Eftil, Milena)
The pair having showered themselves down charge into the room, Milena is able to dodge around the biggest parts of the blaze. The water is absorbing some of the heat as well.
Fire damage (half for Milena): 2d6 - 2 ⇒ (1, 6) - 2 = 5
Once past the doorway, the pair looks around. The heat in the room is intense and there is smoking and rubble everywhere. This was clearly the altar room, and the altar is clearly visible at the far end, about 50ft away. There is also a pair doors behind the altar to the left and the right. An unconscious man lays at the foot of the altar.
Rules for smoke inhalation and intense heat are in effect. Meaning you have to hold your breath or take a fortitude save each round. Intense heat applies every minute, so be quick! Remember if you take more than 1 move action in a turn you use of 2 turns worth of air! The water gives you a +2 bonus on your save against the heat for the first minute (after which it has evaporated).
GM Fireclaw |
THE TEMPLE GROUP (Arry, Lysi)
The blond-haired servant looks as white as a ghost, and says: "N-no... they're not. This way, it'll be much safer in the kitchens." The servant sounds slightly hysterical and looks like he wants to break into a run, but instead walks extremely briskly to the door on the opposite side of the catacombs, and doesn't look back to see if the children are following.
GM Fireclaw |
THE CATACOMBS GROUP (Evengi)
The entrance from the stairs is narrow enough and Evengi places himself squarely in the center. As he does so, he hears several voices chanting, and he feels several hands touch his shoulders. He feels stronger and more well protected. He even feels as though he has a shield strapped to his hand, but when he looks, all he sees is a shimmer. The door to the catacombs bursts inward, revealing 10 men in total, all armed to the teeth with swords and daggers, all dressed in black with masks on.
Evengi now has Bull's Strength, Mage Armour, and Shield of Faith. Initiative!
Eftil Apaltic |

Pravus Malum |
Pravus smiles and nods as his cigar is lit and hears about the prospect of playing a game of cards.
"My man..."
He whistles at a nearby bar maid, removing a platinum piece from his satchel. Once she comes over, he slides it into her hand and pulls her close so he could speak to her.
"Bring us a few people for a game of cards; buy them drinks if you must. You'll get one of these for each person you bring; up to four. Two if they look like a sucker,"
