Hi, everyone - just to keep y'all updated, we have a nibble on the recruitment thread. That potential GM will be reading the gameplay thread here over the next couple days, ask any questions, and pick up the game if it makes sense for them.

Greetings, everyone.
I thought I'd pop by to introduce myself.

Right now, I am about halfway through reading the gameplay thread, and I am quite impressed with your talent so far.
It would be an honor to help you guys continue your story.

Let me know if you have any questions for me.

Thanks, DM Vayelan!

I wouldn’t mind knowing what you think of the survival mechanic after you get done with your read. If you think there’s more we could do do navigate that, or if we should worry about it less, I’m just curious. Thanks!

Okay, I think I'm caught up. I've read over the Gameplay log and character backstories.

In terms of the survival mechanics, how many provision points do you currently have stocked up?
Also, was the previous GM keeping track of any survival details, like which NPCs were fatigued each day?

Fortunately, since the party seems to be on the verge of securing a more permanent refuge, that should hopefully simplify some of the survival elements.

Mistress of the Maze

I thought we were keeping track of that.

Well, we can sort out the new survival situation once the cave is secured as a refuge.

For now, I will make my first gameplay post so we can continue the adventure.

I figure we can have a trial period to make sure that you guys are satisfied with me as GM before I ask Paizo to inherit the campaign.

ugh. I hate to meta-game, but DC25 is gonna be a hard nut for us to crack. We'd be best off all aiding one person like Lily or Caladra if you can do that. Can you 'aid another' with perception?

I will admit, when I read that DC in the AP module, I thought it was rather high.
However, I think the idea is that the cave will be well concealed when used as a base for the refugees.

Taking 20 will definitely locate the hidden entrance, so it's just a matter of taking the time to search thoroughly.

Hi, GM,

If you take a look at the info line under my PC's name, there are a set of hyperlinks there that point to our shared inventory and the management of our NPCs. I think the first tab in the NPCs spreadsheet has our current totals for provisions, shelter, and the size of our herd of animals.

I was mostly able to relegate the fatigued condition to the NPCs instead of the PCs by the time we got to our current point in the story, especially if Cedric burns his "Calming Touch" ability to help mitigate that effect.

If you think we've made too many shortcuts, let me know! :)

1 person marked this as a favorite.

Cyrioul, thank you for directing me to the links, and thank you for keeping meticulous notes. Great work!

I've scanned the map of the cave and uploaded it to Google Drive, but the small original size is making it tricky to use.

I'm working on dividing the map into smaller sections that can be enlarged into workable encounter maps.
I should have the first one linked into the Gameplay thread later this afternoon.

Here's another link for the Troglodyte encounter maps on Google Drive.
I figured it would be useful to place it in a more static place since I can't edit the campaign thread.

I will add more slides with different portions as you explore deeper into the cave.
Also, the editing settings should allow you guys to move your tokens as you go.

Since the mushrooms react to light, as well as movement, and their screams can cause physical damage, we can just cast 'light' on a rock and toss it over there to set them screaming. That'll bring the trogs. You would wait just inside, hopefully out of the range of the screams, and when the trogs come, you run. Cyr puts a grease up behind you as you pass through the mouth of the cave, we catch them in the crossfire. How's that sound?

I'm very impressed by this group's teamwork. That's one of the reasons why I wanted to help keep this campaign going.

Also, Cyrioul - I love the added touch of your daydream/memory. Great addition to the story!

I've resized the encounter map so you have more room to set up this ambush. I've also labeled some aspects like the Shrieker garden and the big mossy rock out front.

I've tried to modify the encounter map to include the next cavern down the tunnel since the troglodytes are moving back.

It's a little rough, so please bear with me.

Wanted to check on something with you guys.

For future combat encounters, do you think it would streamline encounters to use faction initiative?

We would roll initiative for each PC and enemy in the fight, average each side's rolls, and then each side would take a collective turn based on the higher average.

I observed this method in another campaign and wanted to gauge whether you all thought it might speed things up.

If you would prefer to keep the traditional initiative rules, that's fine, too.

I would strongly prefer to keep the normal initiative rules. If a character wants to use a Delay or Readied action to interrupt an enemy how does that interact with Blocks? Having people able to go at any time in a round is very helpful tactically.

Good points, Thorek. We'll keep the normal initiative rules.
