Unless I've misremembered, don't we have a couple of uniforms that Gaius cleaned and repaired at one point? I also vaguely remember that they might have been incinerated for bait purposes. If no one can confirm, I'll go back through the pages, no worries!

I was thinking Animal Messenger specifically, but I'm open to other suggestions. The troglodytes we seized the Hidden Hope caves from had at least one Feather Token with them but I don't remember if our party got any of them.

I've only fought a dragon once before, in all the games I've played. And I lost (party won though, I'll share the story if anyone cares to hear it), so I am SOOOO jazzed for this encounter :D I know it is unlikely the next one, but still.

Also, having liberated the first of three ranger forts, eliminated the Legion's troll mercenaries, and gleaned important information about the Legion's forces at Fort Trevalay, the party has gained considerable experience.

Leveled! Packing Heroism on the daily now and a variety of other useful 3rd level spells. Only 3 per day, but that's a huge power boost for arcane casters IMO!

Undari, I forgot Gaius already has a rod of extend, so please keep the rod as your own!

Our strategy for tackling the forts will at least partially depend on what sort of spells you'll have at hand. Fly, Fireball, and Haste are pretty much the gold standard but I'm prepared to be dazzled.

Haste is in the book too. IMO, fly is good but not great vs levitate when casters first get it. Limited uses per day, meh maneuverability to start, and likely the first time ranks can be put into the fly skill make for a lukewarm time. Haha, I also don't know that being airborne by yourself with the dragon is the best strategy ;)

That said, I could adjust the leveling spells gained and get Fly if we really want it :)

2) Placebo Effect as my second level spell
3) Fearsome Guise as my new trick
4) Damage goes up 1d6 to 3d6+3 on a hit. 3d8+3 with a successful feint.

It is mechanically the same as drinking a potion. Applying it as paste (like war paint) is just a bit of Herbalism flavor.

GM, if the Chimera/travel related danger for this part is clear, I'd love to hear about what the AP says is to happen based on the route we take through here! Getting jumped by a Chimera mid-flight would have suuuuucked!

The AP only describes that the chimera, named Kallikros, has over hunted the lowland slough after being forced from its home in the Hollow Hills by [REDACTED]. If the party passed through the area, it would attack from the sky in search of food.

The collapsed highland trail forcing the party to choose its route, and the potential dangers with each, was my own addition. The trail was intentionally collapsed by [REDACTED], also responsible for driving the owlbears towards Hidden Hope. I wanted to give further hints that something other than the Legion is also working against you.

I like changes that you made to the encounter, I feel like terrain is an underutilized tool in many campaigns.

Agreed! The usual 20x20 of flat open ground with a barrel or two gets old.

And I'm not just saying that because I picked an archetype that has a class feature specifically giving me advantages in difficult terrain, either.

I'll third that! Terrain is something I like to feel I've conquered because the party has taken measures to overcome it. Why bother with travel spells (for instance) if we just need to follow the path?

Not to mention terrain is a great way to make certain monsters more or less challenging! Yeti's in a blizzard, anyone? Grappling creatures with a swim speed in deep bog? LOOOOOOVE IT
