1 person marked this as a favorite.

1. 20 point buy
2. escalated fear rules off horror adventures
3. start at 3rd level
4. 3000 gp of items
5. any 2 traits as long as they fit the background. you can take a 3rd if you have a drawback.
6. only core races plus, changeling, Dhampiyr, and skinchanger
7. no background skills
8. no 3rd party rules
9. you can choose one "special" item at character creation. (see below)
10. choosing 5-6 players
11. once a day post min except weekends try best you can.

I am looking for Role-players with solid backgrounds. I am providing additional Info for that purpose. the idea is that you and the party are wandering vampire/supernatural/witch hunter heroes in a gothic horror setting. you can choose to have run inns with some of the other inmates at the prison. or base your background knowing some of the others in the wagon crew (I am providing enough info for good backgrounds be not enough to spoil anything). You can look at carrion crown players guide for some additional info. because Professor Lorrimar was the founder of this slayer group along with Dr. Finhast. (think of this group like John Carperters Vampires a elite group that has worked together for awhile.) your group just captured the Maragore Twins and are taking them to Revargo Prison, and to also visit one of the founders of the group Professor Lorrimar. The group has been on extensive foray and have not been into town for about 6 years. The campaign will start in a wagon train consisting of 2 wagons. with one of the wagons holding the prisoners. I welcome anyone who has played the Carrion crown because I have changed enough where there will be surprises but kept enough for fans to also enjoy playing the adventure. I loved the prisoners so much I wanted to create a adventure that really dug into and expanded their role. I am also a fan of Supernatural hunters with unique weapons that can be used. those that have played this before can use the Professor or Kendra in their backgrounds if they wish.

Hunters:

Dr. Finhast old male human Alchemist LN- one of the core founders the Genius mind of Dr. Finhast is behind the weapons that are issued. a old man that is near retirement age and the capture of the twins was his final adventure he is planning on retiring at Revargo with the Professor.

Torgar Redfist male half orc ranger guide CG- A scared Half orc with tattoos rolling all around his body that he claims to protect him from evil spirts Torgar prefers to not wear sleeves to show off his massive arms.

Crissa Finhast Female human Investigator Gravedigger NG- Daughter to the good Dr, she has been a doting daughter all her life. she has certain daddy issues though, she has had numerous romances in the caravan and seems to crave attention.

Prisoners:

The Splatterman- (a human male mage of some sort, real name Professor Hean Faramin one of the groups first captures was actually one of the Professors and Doctors friends that after a encounter with a Demon became obsessed with names and how that they have power over people, slowly writing their name in blood then killing them.)

Mosswater mauler- (male Dwarf Ispan was a renown master smith that caught his wife in infidelity and smashed her skull with a hammer, when he realized his mistake he tried to bring her back by reconstructing her skull but could not find a piece, so he went around killing people trying to find a perfect piece to fit in hers.)

The Drummer of Spinecastle- (human male Bard that with his rhythm playing the drums much like a slaver on board a boat caused people to fall into a almost trance like state. he took over a castle that many people died trying to get into by walking into the moat, falling off upper stories, etc.)

Duke Trath Illborn (a male half-elf that started a cult worshiping him as a reborn hero called The Order, that practiced black magic and summoning the other leaders were not found)

Maragore Twins- (two brothers that look just alike that had a terror spree on is a rogue and the other a barbarian, that many believe a lycanthopes with some of the ways their victims were found torn apart as if fed on.)

Items choose 1:

1. 4 doses of Juju Salt (as Juju orical Reminder of Death (Su):)

2. Amulet of Protection from Evil- (use once week for 10 minutes)

3. A masterwork weapon that is either a repeating Light or heavy X-bow (4 bolts) with a modular hilt that you can pullout that is a mwk Kukuri, as a free action. it is a move action to to replace it. the X-bow cannot be used until replaced. weapon can be enchanted with money as Double weapon.

4. Like the X-bow. you can have a light or heavy mwk Mace/Pick, by pressing a button on the haft the mace has a pointed end that pops out as a free action, it is a move action to replace. the mace cannot be used until the pick has been replaced. enchanted as double weapon.

5. Holy book that can be used to cast Turn Undead DC 15 only once before consumed. Any class can use it.

Damn. You tempt me overmuch.

3rd to 8th? sounds fun. why not

Dampire with kinslayer

How about a human Mesmerist who slept with the Mosswater Mauler's wife?

as long as you have a good reason to be with the slayers, maybe you feel guilt for it.

Hey GM. Definitely interested. I may have trouble getting a submission to you today, though, as its my F2F game and then dinner with the in laws. Sounds like a great setup!

Sounds very interesting. I'll put a character up. I have a couple that would be suitable, I'll just have to advance them to third level.

Think I'll be offering a halfling sorceror, efreet bloodline. I'll put it up tomorrow, as it is rather late here.

I gotta say that I liked the book version of Vampire$ better than the movie, but I like where you're going with the example. :)

Thinking perhaps a cleric of Pharasma.

RPG Superstar 2014 Top 16, RPG Superstar 2012 Top 16

SnowHeart and I are thinking of doing a linked submission. We'll get back to you when we've had time to discuss...

Question, by skinchanger, do you mean skinwalker? Not sure what we're going to do but just want to make sure I've got my options mapped.

Thanks! :-)

yup skinwalker sorry.

I also will be willing if everyone has a good time to continue the adventures after 8th, I was just letting everyone know that the first book will take up a large portion.

additional free weapon or item rules:
also another weapon you can choose and gain proficiency with is a mancatcher, if none of the modular weapons fit your playing style.

also if you don't want a kukri you can sub a dagger if you don't like it.

cutoff will be in two weeks Btw for submissions, 5/21

About how old is Crissa Finhast? If she is of a similar age, thinking of being BFFs with her.

going to say around 20-25 ish?

That works fine, I was picking 23 for Alexandria's own age.

RPG Superstar 2014 Top 16, RPG Superstar 2012 Top 16

Snowheart and I are hashing out details, but I'm leaning toward a pyrokineticist at this point. I think I may go with elemental ascetic or kinetic knight though not sure on that yet.

Sounds good.

I was hoping for more interest, if there are not that many more by Thursday. I am planning on closing the thread and just doing a regular AP. everyone on this can do a vote if they wish. ill do a list on thurs. the lack of interest is probably because I modded the heck out of the AP.

I think its mostly because of the "3 to 8" thing.

I like the idea though. And this setting makes it kinda fun to play an undead hunter

You'll have a submission soon from motteditor and me. We've just been PMing back and forth a lot to flesh out concept and shared histories. (ATM, were leaning towards siblings; one a keneticist (pyro) the other an inquisitor (witch hunter). Full credit for the concept, which I don't want to ruin by revealing now, goes to mott.)

Give it time to percolate. :-) It seems like people mostly sign up for full APs but I really like the idea of something a little more focused with potential to grow rather than a multi-year commitment to a full AP. Concept rocks.

I rather like the idea of starting at 3 or even 2. First level always just seems so boring.

Also, if anyone is on the fence, Chubbs is GMing another campaign I'm in and is a player in one I am GMing. I've found him to come up with fun concepts and he has been a consistent poster to help keep the games going. Two thumbs up, bigly. (He's also a fan of DragonLance, which is relevant to nothing whatsoever but I think is cool!)

I'm interested! I have a character concept I'm going to adapt to this setting, an Oracle. Just need to work on it more and adjust for Level 3 and such. I for one am thrilled to start at not-level 1!

RPG Superstar 2014 Top 16, RPG Superstar 2012 Top 16

I'm not going to do the crunch until we know for sure the game is going on, but here's my concept in hopes it spurs some others to post. As Snow mentioned, our characters will be siblings:

Almost everyone in Ustalav knows Grethel Grim's story, how she and her brother were captured by an evil hag who intended to eat them, and how the two children escaped, killing the witch in the process.

What most people don't know is the story, at least as far as they've heard it, isn't quite true. Grethel didn't so much shove the witch into the oven as -- in her fear, rage, and desperation -- tapped into abilities she didn't know she had. She did try to shove the witch, but in doing so actually ignited her, immolating her in flames that seemed to come from nowhere and allowing the children to return home.

A fear years later, she was approached by Professor Lorrimar, who was intrigued by the story. Learning the truth, he began to mentor her in her abilities, teaching her to control the living flame inside her. He was less successful, however, at teaching her to control the fire that burns at her soul, the rage and fear that have stuck with her since she was nearly killed years ago, betrayed by a wicked stepmother. Despite that, the professor brought Grethel -- and her brother -- into his business, her mastery of the flame helping contain the Gothic kingdom's monsters. Unknown to her, though, her role might not be despite her fiery temper, but rather because of it -- for Grethel is only a small push away from being a monster herself.

---

I'm thinking pyrokineticist. I'm leaning toward the elemental ascetic or kinetic knight archetypes, as I don't think I see her as a ranged character but more of an up-front melee type.

And a background for the other sibling:

It seems as if everyone in Ustalav knows Grethel's story and, by extension, her brother's. It is said he is the lackwit brother who let himself be enticed by an old woman with the simple promise of sweets, Hansel was the fool to Grethel's wit.

While not entirely untrue, it is a bit unfair, at least as far as the brother sees it.

As a boy, Johannes was known as Hansel. He insists he was bewitched by the hag who compelled him through her magic into her cage and to consume the fattening treats she provided. Whatever the truth of the past, he has tried to throw it off (along with the embarrassment and sniggering the story often elicits).

As they grew older, the brother followed Grethel into Professor Lorrimar's orbit. The old hunter was kind to the boy but also saw within him something that could be nurtured (or, perhaps, manipulated) into a useful tool. Lorrimar introduced then-Hansel to an unusually militant member of the Desnan faith who converted Hansel and trained him in the arts of hunting witches and those who would bind and enslave others through their magics... just as the hag had done to the brother.

Now calling himself Johannes, he has dedicated himself to ridding Ustalav from the evil of magic used to enslave and destroy the lives of its people. In particular, he views many of the magical traditions as paths to such evil, particularly those unbound by principled study or divine guidance, and feels the practitioners of such arts need of careful observation and, occasionally, culling.

He has mostly lived in his sister's shadow and, truth be told, begrudges it on occasion. He also feels her use of magic tempts the darkness that nearly took them as children. Yet, he loves her and appreciates her shared zeal in bringing the evils of Ustalav to justice.

---------------

Crunch is a work in progress but at the moment leaning heavily towards a ?G human inquisitor (witch hunter) of Desna.

Also, while the backstory is heavily inspired by something that could be a source of chuckles, Mott and I are planning to play it straight and dark.

1 person marked this as a favorite.

Another person interested here! I like long walks on the beach and curling up by the fire with a trashy romance novel.

I am interested in making this my first paizo.com PBP game.

So DM Chubbs I'm cool to play a Half Drow-Half-Fiend/Half Were-Shark right? With a freaking lasers on my head!

Sorry for the bad joke. I really would like to join y'all in what sounds like a good expansion to the AP. Here is what I got for my character concept so far.

[No name so far]
CG Male Elven Rogue (Scout Archetype)
Grim Optimism and Seeker of Brightness traits

He was born into a family of spice traders in Greengold, Kyonin. There he spent his time between helping with the family business and training as a scout for the local militia.

Raised with a 'zest' for life and a benevolent disposition he was also fascinated by the revered elven mystics known as Brightness Seekers. The Seekers ancient wisdom and understanding of their past lives seemed so sacred to him that he has become determined to learn their secrets and find 'The Brightness' himself. Unfortunately all of the religious mumbo jumbo and traditional meditation that guided most Seekers to the path always eluded him. Optimistic still he is determined to find 'The Brightness', and to that end on his one hundred and eightieth birthday he left his hometown to hunt for the secrets of a Brightness Seeker, to 'hack' enlightenment.

Long was his journey to Ustalav, fraught with some sorrows and pain, but still bountiful in the zest of life he grew up with. When his path crossed with Professor Lorrimar he found the various research projects the professor was working on to be uncannily close to his understanding of The Brightness Seekers arts. The occult would be his way to The Brightness! The Professor was willing to share his knowledge, but asked for the elfs aid in return. It was the hope of finding guidance on his life long path that brought the elf to the group, but it was the solid bonds of friendship that kept him there.

Impressed and inspired by the dedication and compassion of the many monster hunters working for Lorrimar the elf has sworn himself to the cause. Still filled with a desire to understand The Brightness he seeks the answers wherever fate takes him and his fellow hunters. He is quite excited to be headed back to see Lorrimar after such a long absense, and for the Professor to reveal whatever new mysteries he has unlocked.

Likes: Flirting, Well Spiced Food/Drinks, Artistically Crafted Swords.
Dislikes: Pessimism, Dirty/Stained Clothes, Varisian Gypsies(don't ask its a long story)
Fears: Drowning, Bears/Owlbears/Bugbears/Bear like creatures, Monogamy.

Quite a lot more to the character I hope to flesh out after we really get going. Looking forward to playing with all of you.

Let the dice fall as they may.

Don't apologize. I thought it was pretty funny. My eyes bugged out slightly at first ("OMG what a...") then it clicked and I chuckled.

Also: dislikes monogamy. More chuckles

And...lots of ranged so far. Maybe I should go for a melee-oriented inquisitor.

If someone is chuckling then I have done my job! :)

I will be a mostly melee rogue if that helps. I will carry a shortbow with me for when ranged is needed, but I will be dodging ducking dipping diving and dodging up close and personal with my rapier most of the time.

Fears = Monogamy, not just a dislike, but a full on Fear.
Feel free to describe a Phantasmal Killer spell as a woman in a wedding dress for my char DM Chubbs!

Argh, overwork. I'll get onto creating my character

Here is my offering, Kara Firemane, a halfling sorcerer who likes fire magic

Kara Firemane was born in Varisia, and grew up there. She came into her gift as a sorcerer early in life when she accidently burned down her family's home during a goblin raid. Ridden by guilt, she left soon after. She took to the adventuring life there after, with a habit of sending gold back to her family. During her travels, she came across a man being attacked by some goblins, she helped him and so met the professor. They struck up a friendship and the rest is history. A couple of years later and she is in Ustalav slaying monsters for fun and profit. And except for a nasty incident involving a ghoul pack, she enjoys her life.

Likes: Food, Seeing new things, and magic

Dislikes: undead (she had a bad incident), and religious nutters (cause they'll get you killed)

Fears: caught alone with undead, damaging things with her spells

Habits: she regularly sends a tenth of her income home to her family

snow- human, inquisitor
seth- dhampir, inquisitor
Alexandria- human cleric
chillbane- halfing sor- (fire using)
willshaper- elven scout-

1. I just accept everyone- as is. then get started- everyone would need to finish their characters. and we start Monday.

2. I accept everyone and yall talk it out because some of yall don't have full characters. and our party is kind of weird so everyone talk it out to see if anyone wants to change characters. and start Monday.

3. quit the thread and start a classic AP. everyone can vote that is currently here for which I will reopen.
open new thread for Carrion crown and just do the full AP with some changes.
I am interested in DMing Jade regent AP
I am interested in DMing Age of worms AP

Is it too late to try and submit? I have an idea for a phantom blade Spiritualist rattling around my head; I could try and have her done enough to submit by tonight.

RPG Superstar 2014 Top 16, RPG Superstar 2012 Top 16

Speaking for myself, I'd lean toward going with this game, with some discussion still of classes (though strange class mixes can be fun too).

I have no problem with more people submitting too.

I'd be happy with 1 or 2 (which I see as very similar choices). Looks like with that group we will probably need someone able to "tank" or, at a minimum, crowd control, so I'm leaning towards a melee-oriented, heavy-armor inquisitor that could work well with a rogue.

I vote for #2 and concur with Dr. Mot, do you concur Doctor?

I am totally up for switching to a more Ranger/Fighter (Melee for sure) Class if that's what is needed, it will not change up my character setup/Rp much at all. I could even do a Ranger with Trapfinding so we still have that skillset.

Vote Now!

#ElvesWithGreatSwordsAreCooler

#ShutYourMouthWillshaper

ok we will play this. ill make final cut by Sat on who is playing. I might choose 5 that I think will work together. that will give Taz and Red time to submit. go ahead and finish your characters with backgrounds. if anyone are going to change characters feel free. I will re look over all of them before choosing on sat.

Willshaper I would recommend #ElvesWithGreatSwordsAreCooler Ranger.

Even though I'm playing kinetecist, I'm likely to be very much a melee character. The archetypes I'm looking at actually do away with ranged blasts.

2 is good for me.

Hi,

Here's the phantom blade I mentioned last night. Thanks for your consideration.

Redblade

Backstory:
The Vaniveks are a minor noble family from the Canterwall region of Ustalav, and Jaroslaw is the youngest of three children. Anything more than the most cursory glance at the boy reveals evidence of something other than human in the family bloodline; while this might be deemed scandalous in some places, with Canterwall right up against the borders of Belkzen, there it’s accepted with some resignation.

One day, as Jarek was off hunting in the woods near his family home, he was set upon by several zombies. Slightly rattled as he was thrown from his horse, Jarek reached for his sword, and dispatched the shambling monstrosities. It was after the fight that Jarek realized he had lost his own sword in the fall from his horse. He looked at the weapon he was holding and wondered, Whose sword is this? And why does it glow…?

When he got home, he showed the weapon to his father, who confirmed it was a match to his own father’s sword, lost when Jarek’s grandfather died defending the border from an orc raid. Desperate for answers, the family sent Jaroslaw off to the University at Lepidstadt. There, with the guidance of the Professor, Jarek came to understand that he had expressed the ability to create an ectoplasmic copy of his ancestor’s weapon. Jarek learned to control his ability, to develop his skill at arms with it, and when the Professor gave him a chance, to use it as part of the team of hunters put together by the Professor and Dr. Finhast.

(As far as his persona, I think he’s sort of the “country boy/straight-laced fellow who’s had his eyes opened to another world” type. Think Colossus from early X-Men.)

I'm good for whatever is decided on.

Everyone likes elves with big swords.

What?

...

Ok. I guess then I'll go archer. I was thinking black powder inquisition but while I'm not a min-maxer the numbers just seemed terrible. Only positive was the bludgeoning from a bullet for certain undead DR, so probably a bow.

Snow.

except its fun to do Black powdered inquisition. plus at later levels you can do something close to utility shot. out of the weapon masters handbook.
