Surprise Round
The pile of sand in the stairway coalesces into a serpentine creature made of loosely collected sand and nearly engulfs the dwarf. It strikes at Fatima as she examines the burrows to the south. It was almost undetectable in the pile of sand. The nasty bite leaves an enormous gash in Fatima's side. The sand seemed to have nasty teeth and power in the strike, like a serpent of gritty rock.

"Water, water. Strike it, soak it, with water!
Fatima will attempt to move through Albrecht's square in order to get behind him so that she may fire her bow.
How would it work for me to move through his square? Do I need to roll an acrobatics roll to get away from the snake despite a five foot step taking me to his square?
Dusty Fireseeker

Dusty touches her holy symbol, Saranrae, let your light heal
Channel energy: 1d6 ⇒ 4 exclude creature
4 points of healing, fatima
albretch, swap places with me. I need to be next to Fatima. and advances 5ft to take albretch's place when (if?) he moves.

Albrecht's sling does not even hurt the creature.
Raziya rushes the creature and takes a devastating blow completely crushing his throat as he collapses to the ground. The act of charging to draw the creature's attention left Fatima the opportunity to escape.
Hours ago.......The young magus had been passed over in the drawing, and was told by Sebti the crocodile to 'look out for Dusty and her crew' after the last visit to the cleric for healing. He looked on in horror after climbing down the rope and following along underground to the sounds of desperate voices. Entering the stairway, he watched a sand creature attack the party. Watching the barbarian fatally wounded, he realized that there was a spot for him with the group.
Umbral is up--waiting for him to enter discussion and gameplay. Consider Raziya's charge draws the AoO allowing Fatima to retreat and draw her bow.
Umbral and Fatima to go
| Umbryl Char |
What Is that? It doesn't look like Undead.....
Moving just to the edge of the room to see better, staying at least 5' away form the sandy area/ creature, Umbryl draws his Cold Iron light mace in his right hand.
"Kovak!"
He intones a quick harsh word, as he makes a sign with his left hand and a deep purple flash flies across the room to strike the sand demon.
magic missile damage: 1d4 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 1 = 2
Hmm the sand seems to dissipate my attack somewhat. damn.
| Albretch Von Breugel |
Moving! I am MOVING!
I am assuming that since I am not in difficult terrain I can 5-foot step. I move 5 feet away, load my sling & fire. I am assuming that the thing is in melee already, so the penalty is included
attack: 1d20 - 2 ⇒ (7) - 2 = 5

Fatima uses the distraction of the fallen barbarian to fire two arrows into the creature of sand, the second bites hard as the force missile of the newly arrived Umbral seems to hurt the creature as well.
The creature retaliates....

Dusty keeps chanting, shifting to a different spell.
cure light wounds: 1d8 + 3 ⇒ (7) + 3 = 10 on fatima.
| Umbryl Char |
Not sure where I am on the map.
" Barricade!"
Umbryl casts shield on himself, holding his mace aloft, it begins to softly glow the same color as his force missile from a moment ago.
then moves to a position that will allow him to charge.
Cast shield, Swift action activate arcane pool.(spend one point to make mace +1 for 1 minute.) move action to set up charge for next round. current AC 18. I believe I'm in the room with Dusty and Albrect, so never mind about the charge stuff, they are in the way. XD

Fatima
Sand Creature
RECAP
Exploring a sandy stairwell, a creature of sand appeared that was hiding cleverly in the sand and attacked. So far, Fatima's kicks and punches and Albrecht's punches have been ineffective, but a force bolt from Umbryl and an arrow from Fatima have caused it to noticeably weaken.
| - Fatima - |
Fatima steps back 5' and fires twice again.
Shot 1: 1d20 ⇒ 31d8 ⇒ 1
Shot 2: 1d20 ⇒ 51d8 ⇒ 2
Taking in a deep breath, the dwarf girl tries to focus her thoughts more clearly. Muttering to herself she says, "Ignore the pain and the healing rush both. Center. Focus. We can survive this if we're careful and if I don't lose my head like on those last two shots.
| GM Tribute |
From Fatima's current spot there is no way to 5' step back without provoking in difficult terrain.

Dusty Fireseeker

eek!!!
Dusty moves back ten feet, drawing her scimitar and channeling energy again
healing: 1d6 ⇒ 5 excluding the creature.
Albrecht, do something else apart from that sling, it's worse than useless. Fall back and Bomb it! Stranger, can you hit it with another spell. It's weakening, but still a danger.
| Umbryl Char |
"Lady of dreams!" Umbryl exclaims as he steps back a pace.
" Most of my attack magics are gone, but I have a minor one that might work." He replies as he raises his left hand and gestures.
" Sizzle."
ranged touch attack: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (9) + 1 = 10
acid splash damage: 1d3 ⇒ 1
mean, mean, dice roller
| Albretch Von Breugel |
Albretch takes a 5-foot step behind and throws another stone, aiming at the creature. He does his best to avoid fatima, but he can not entirely.
Unless you vant me to roast Fatima, I cannot bomb!
attack: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (15) + 2 = 17
damage: 1d4 - 1 ⇒ (4) - 1 = 3
| - Fatima - |
Dragging her bow behind her, Fatima 5' crawls to the southeast, getting out of the way of the others.
"We need water. Wet it down and maybe we can hurt it, otherwise, the sand just reforms."
Dusty Fireseeker
|
Albretch, I don't think you can hurt it with that. Drag Fatima out if you can. I'll try to give something to think about. HEY HEY! SANDY! THIS WAY!
Dusty steps back another five feet and speaks a word of flame.
firebolt: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (19) + 1 = 20 touch attack
damage: 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (5) + 1 = 6
Got it! Stranger hit it again
Dusty Fireseeker
|
oops got a little excited. Well assuming I'm still functional, that is my next turn action.
| GM Tribute |
sand creature vs Dusty: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (11) + 5 = 161d8 + 4 ⇒ (1) + 4 = 5
Dusty is in the way and holds off the creature from coming into the room. She takes a vicious blow and returns a fiery blast after stepping back in the room where the footing is better. The fire burns away a considerable amount of sand. But the creature still stands.
ORDER
Dusty firebolt
Fatima (prone)
Albrecht
Umbral
| Umbryl Char |
"Watch out!"
Umbryl cries as Dusty retreats and the sand creature lunges at her.
" Iomedae preserve."
Moving to just in front of Dusty, total defense. Current AC 22, 7/10 rounds of shield spell and 8/10 rounds of +1 weapon remaining
Dusty Fireseeker
|
if fatima stands there are a couple of problems. First she automatically loses 1 hp anf falls unconscious, also she triggers an AOO. Best wait until albretch pulls her back 5ft into cover, and I channel energy again.
Dusty Fireseeker
|
It's a carrying capacity thing, not a strength roll I would think, and drag capacity is double normal. Just drag her
Dusty Fireseeker
|
Channel energy: 1d6 ⇒ 6
Stranger, keep attracting it's attention, fatima get up and join the fight, albretch bomb its backside. That shouldn't hit us. Dusty says, while at the same time holding her holy symbol.
| Albretch Von Breugel |
Albretch moves into position (check map) tries to lob a bomb at the large creatures backside, trying to avoid hitting umbril
attack: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (14) + 3 = 17
damage: 1d6 + 3 ⇒ (2) + 3 = 5
: Bomb hit touch AC, I'm aiming for the back square of the creature (so it should take full damage unless it saves), if he is considered in melee remove 4 from attack roll
| Umbryl Char |
Slumping in relief, Umbryl slowly approaches the fallen Barbarian.
" I can't be positive, but I'm pretty sure your friend is dead..."
Kneeling he says a brief prayer, then looks at the others.
" Is everybody else ok?...Um... not to seem callous or anything, but it seems you were hit pretty hard in here. You might consider selling your companions things and getting some cure potions, scrolls or wands. Unless of course you want to save up to raise her, but Pharasma isn't big on that..."
| - Fatima - |
Fatima wearily approaches Dusty before bowing. "Blessings upon you and my thanks to the Dawnbringer for your healing. Without it I should most certainly have joined our friend here upon the sand."
Fatima drags Raziya back into the room, laying her out in a dignified manner and covering her wounds as best as she is able. She does not remove any of the changelings gear, rather positioning her weapon upon her chest.
"I don't know what is accepted in human society for disposition of the property of the dead, but I'm not sure that this woman was really human regardless. Even with that said however, it is against the beliefs of my people to rob the dead, just as it is against the teachings of Pharasma. I know that this seems ironic, considering our current activities, but I hesitate to anger the Lady of Graves in her own stronghold."
| Umbryl Char |
"As you say. She was your friend after all. Is there any treasure here to be had? You still need cure magics and I myself am a little light in that regard. Also , it seems you are now down a teammate as well, and as I was too late to join a team this morning....."
He bows to the group at large..
"Umbryl Char at your service, weapons and arcane training."
