It would help if you were more clear about what you're taking issue with. Mine was the idea that "don't be a jerk" is enough of a guideline to prohibit unwanted behavior. To me, it obviously isn't, because not everyone will agree on what "being a jerk" is. Your answer was that people inherently know if what they're doing is right or wrong, if they're "being honest with themselves," but didn't elaborate on what that means.

And you're right, I shouldn't have said you were assuming anything. Let me correct myself. It seems to me that statements like this assume the intents of motivations of this still unspecified group.

Quote:
they don't want to co-exist, and "treating everyone with dignity and respect" is precisely what they don't do; they presume the worst of everybody who doesn't think and behave as they do, and they're grounded not only in unreason, but ultimately in a conscious rejection of reason
Quote:
This sounds like it's assuming I'm operating in the total absence of any specifics or facts; I'm not. Believe me, I would never believe a lot of what I've seen these past few years if I hadn't seen it myself.

What have you seen? Be specific.

All I see from this thread is someone who thinks they are Intellectually Superior to the rest of us tooting their own horn.

Quite frankly, I don't see why you are wasting space here with this discussion that has no chance of being resolved since we are all human beings and we will always have differences of opinion.

Folks, I believe this particular line of discourse is starting to spiral beyond the parameters of what this specific discussion thread is meant for as the majority of this doesn't seem to pertain to the Flaxseed Lodge or Pathfinder Society specifically.

If anyone feels that they're being made to feel unwelcome or unsafe here, at Flaxseed, or one of our other forum lodges, then please, let me or whichever of our VOs you feel most comfortable talking to know.

Burnout is certainly a thing that happens and interests wax and wane for a variety of reasons. There's nothing wrong with one feeling that they need to pull back their participation in a hobby and I would also say doing so would be prudent if said participation is making you more unhappy and than happy.

Otherwise, discussions about Paizo policy, forum moderation practices, etc., would best be served over in General Discussion.

Finally, please remember to be kind to others and try to assume positive intent, even if you happen to disagree with someone. I'd really rather not see the forum mods have to get involved in anything here at Flaxseed.

Yep - this forum is for cool things generally related to playing the game, and we can check all the dramas at the door.

This is the fun lodge where we just get on with the business of playing the game.

This back and forth posting time could better be used in making new characters and putting them in games.

Off-topic but ‘draconian’ meaning strict is not to do with dragons.

It’s from the (possibly mythical) Athenian law-giver ‘Draco’.

Still here :) I'm mostly fishing for higher level games for my big kids stable, but the lodge has been really heavy on lowbie and repeatable content so harder to jag the games I'm hunting. On the other hand I'm pretty busy in the SFS lodge here - just taking another three tables on a run whilst I work on that 4th Nova!

I'm looking forward to the next PbP Con, they tend to bring out some awesome opportunities though.

For the community in general, has anyone heard from Helikon recently? It looks like it has been a couple of weeks since he has posted. Even given the holidays, that is quite a bit of time not to post. I just want to make certain they are alright.

On a VC / replacement GM level, Helikon was our GM for Gameday 8 run of The Jarlsblood Witch Saga. We have finished the game and are waiting on chronicles to be issued (with a question about purchasing Heightened Continual Light cast by a player).

I've got you covered. Would those players who participated in this game please check the Discussion thread whenever you get the chance? There's a little bit of information I need for completing your chronicles. Thanks!

Thinking ahead to Outpost III, I'm planning to use a replay for the Siege of Gallowspire. I know I can't play the same character I already played the scenario with. Am I right in thinking that I also can't play a character who received a copy of the chronicle because I used him as an aid character the first time through?

Grand Lodge

He/Him

I suspect the answer is that you cannot use that character again, either as primary or as an aid character again. I'll look into it a little to try and be sure, though.

Actually, I think you're okay to play a character who acted as an aid character on a previous play-thru. This is based on the text for aid character chronicle sheets in the scenario (p. 36) [emphasis added]:

"Aid characters do not receive their own Chronicle sheets for participating in this scenario. However, they can receive a boon for the Aid Mission they participated in. Players are responsible for photocopying their Chronicle sheet to apply these boons to the relevant Aid Characters. These copied Chronicle sheets grant the relevant boon and no other rewards."

As you rightly point out, the Guild Guide (p. 7) says: "A character may have no more than one copy of a Chronicle sheet." But I feel that the boons that Gallowspire aid characters earn are more in line with something like a race boon on a Chronicle that is applied to another PC much as we see often in SFS, and is in line with the text in the scenario that says they "do not receive their own chronicle sheets."

But I'm not a Venture Critter, and this is probably something that needs to be clarified by someone above my pay-grade.

[Ninja'd by Dennis, though I respectfully disagree with his initial suspicion.]

Thanks, Dennis and Nomadical. Dennis, if you get any more insight, please do post it here.

You should be fine to play your aid characters using a replay. The aid character did not receive the chronicle for the scenario itself but rather a copy of the chronicle for a specific boon only.

This is similar and seen often in Starfinder, especially the specials where your chronicles are copied over to another character for a specific boon on them.

This should not lock out your aid characters that were used and you should be able to use your replay to play them. That chronicle in question is fairly clear in the text that your character, by PFS #, was used as an aid character on it so it should not come up as an issue.

Hope this all made sense,

Luke_Parry has it right. We have a separate Lodge for each system to avoid confusion on recruitment for games.

A big hello to all the peeps in the cheap seats!

So, looks like this semester might have enough free time to actually get back to one of these...so...the two year hiatus basically became a three year hiatus, ah well.

To aid in the "1530 new posts (jeez)" backlog, any super-important PbP info that someone who hasn't played since the Starfinder playtest was beginning? Consider me so far 'out of the loop' that the quest marker has me pointed into the Hao Jin Tapestry. Is the tapestry still a thing?

So, I have a few games wrapping up soon, and may have a bit more time.
I see a lot of interest in the Recruitment thread for a Core game, and they need a GM. I am considering that.

I've played PFS for about six years now, and PbP for almost four years (both PFS and APs). I've been GM'ing a PbP AP for about two years. And I have many years of GM'ing earlier systems. What I have not done is GM'd for PFS.

Specifically GM'ing for PFS, what do I need to know?
Do I buy the scenario? Do the scenarios come with maps, or do I need to buy map packs?
I think I see how to report scenarios under "GM/Event Coordinator."
Do I have any discretion in who I accept, or is it always first-come first-served? Not that I would be too picky, but suppose a player wanted to join who I had known to ghost other games?
Do I need to be certified as a PFS GM in any way?

Big changes in the past few years... There's a new Online Support Program that gives boon chances to non-convention games. Online is an officially recognized region. HMM has stepped down as our illustirous leader and Tyranius has become her replacement. Otherwise... there's a new edition of Pathfinder with PFS and PbP games for it as well? There's propbably hundreds of other changes but I can't think of anything right off the bat.

Yes, you will need to buy the scenario. That said, there are PbP conventions with scenario support meaning you get the scenario as part of volunteering,

Yes, there are maps in the scenarios. There are a few that have maps that are harder to extract, but most of them work just fine. You will need a tool that allows you to copy out of a PDF.

Yes, you report results in the GM/Event Coordinator tab. If you think you will be doing enough that you want to participate in the Online RSP, there is a different method. I have not done online RSP. If you look at Campaign Information for this thread, you will find some details.

You can privately recruit for games or do a public recruitment. Most people do first come, first served because it is easy. There are some that open a recruitment thread and then pick from those who apply.

There is no certification to become a PFS GM. I would suggest you download and read the Guide to Organized Play and make sure you know how things like APL work before you start.

You may want to look at the GM Kit since it has a number of useful resources including copies of the various pregenerated characters people can use in Organized Play.

I appreciate the welcome, it's good to be back! (And it looks like the place to be is here for 1E games, bonus.) Time to wait for a game (and sort through chronicle sheets from 2017)...

    Logistical questions.

    1. Is there a large backlog for reported games? I am missing one as a player and two as a GM (specifically, my first two, so I'm not sure if there's a problem or if I was the problem).

    2. Are we supposed to get a confirmation when the games are put on Paizo, or do we just have to monitor our characters?

    3. Is the year of the program the year that the game starts, the game ends, or the game is reported - if they are not the same?

    Watery Soup,

You need to give a few more details.

Where were the games? If they were part of a convention, the people running it do the reporting. If it was a private game, the GM would do it. If it was at a public venue such as a game store, the host normally collects the reporting and does it.

The delay is however long the person takes to do it. Except in the case of conventions, it should normally be done in a week or less. Some conventions get it done quickly, others it can take a while.

You do not get any confirmations or notifications when a game is added. You could suggest it in the Web Site Feedback forum as an enhancement.

I always report games by the day they finish. This usually only comes up in PbP, but if the adventure is a module it can come up in other cases.

    Hope this helps.
