Reposting from the OOC thread since I don't think everyone checks that.

Nazard mentioned in another game we're in that he's going to be AFK for about a week or so while he and his wife are moving out of their apartment into a new house. Since we can't really go adventuring without him, I was thinking that 'tonight' (in game time) would be a perfect opportunity for everyone to have a feast together aboard the Rose of Cassomir.

The last time our characters actually got to sit down and enjoy/roleplay a real meal together was back at the Anchor's Away (Eric & Frank: see the 1st page of this game thread). Given all that we've been thru and our recent accomplishments, I was thinking it might be fun to do so again.

Whatcha think?

Only as long as Stinky and I get to finish the drinking contest that we started in that tavern! Elorin was too worried about making a bad impression back then. Since he has been fired from his job as bodyguard he should be fine to get hammered now though :O

Bring it on!! There isn't an elf alive or dead who can drink a dwarf under the table!!

Biter's eyes light up at mention of a drinking contest. Friend Rath should know about this, too.

All you dwarves are the same, you think your race entitles you an ability to drink like a professional. Put your flagon where you mouth is. Elorin has run with the big dogs as well as with a couple of drunken masters...we will see LOL's. This dinner should get real interesting.

"Sometimes people fear unknown. Maybe if tell them that - short-term - we all need to work together to make us safe and build strong colony, they will accept him temporarily. Then they get to know him, hopefully they all like each other, so he becomes familiar and not feared?"

Alexis nods thoughtfully, takes a sip of wine, and says with some distraction evident in her voice, "Yes, that sounds like a good working plan."

After a moment, she looks up and says, "Work. Yes, it seems like that's about all we've done these past 3 months." She gets up and draws aside the curtains across the back of her cabin revealing the hustle and bustle on the beach. "I suspect that there will be no end to the challenges in the near future either..."

"Yet when you are raising a great structure, if there is too much tension on your lines and pulleys, they risk breaking. It's necessary to stop every now and then to rest and check your equipment for the signs of wear. We, all of us are those lines and pulleys, and I fear that I have been just as demanding of a mistress as Fate has been lately..."

Turning around with the light from outside making her short golden hair glow like a halo, she says, "Rath, let's have the cook prepare a feast for the men tonight — for both our team and the crew. Morale is the grease that keeps a machine lubricated just as hope is the force that fuels it. If we ignore all of our milestones, and this is a milestone, then no one will strive to reach the next one. Let's celebrate and give them something to look forward to!"

Rath rises as Alexis does, smiles, and says obliquely, "Are you sure your strength is your brains not your wisdom, Rajkumari? Perhaps my brother influence is rubbing off on you, hey? Think dinner is VERY good idea."

FWIW, Biter, if you are thinking of getting Rath liquored up... it is probably not going to happen. He still has a princess to guard, even during a down-time. :p

So saith the Captain of the Scouting Party?!?!?! Welcome to the world of increased responsibility. Not to worry, if this were a small relatively secure gathering of just the Pathfinders, and Alexis gave him the night off, Rath would be up for all sorts of Biter-esque shenanigans. As it is, he will drink a bit and be happy to rib his little pal...

I suspect there will be a 2AM mission over to Harrolayne's boat where certain noble ladies will wake up with a shaved head and many crewmen will find their hands in warm buckets of water. And let me just say this... Rath, with his 19 STR and Improved Grapple can give HELLA BAD wedgies!

Very wrong I would say xD and the dinner idea sounds great, even drinking contest =)

After a long day spent surveying the fields and forest inland from the shore, the group captained by Biter returns to the Rose of Cassomir to an unexpected surprise. Alexis, Burnsten, Ravarath, and Captain Theodremir have spent the day aiding the ship's cook in preparing a veritable feast!

The large tables from the ship's conference room have been set out and are laden with grilled beargle steaks, crabs, fish, freshly baked rolls, various cheeses, olives, dates, and other provisions gained when the vessel was seized from the pirates. Much to everyone's delight, casks of ale, mead, and wine, which were until now held in reserve, have been brought up from below.

There are even special candles lit around the rails that seem to keep the mosquitoes and other vermin at bay.

Clearly well-pleased by the effort, Princess Alexis taps a crystal wine glass with the side of a knife to get everyone's attention. In her clear, elvish voice, she says, "Gentlemen, friends... We could never have made it this far, through all the trials we have faced if not for your perseverance and courage. There is much work yet ahead, but today is a milestone for us all! So let us celebrate and remember it! And know this... greater days are still ahead for our future in Arcadia is ours to build!"

Alexis starts to raise her glass with an excited look her her face when Theodremir whispers something to her. She nods slowly and motions to Brother Abbas.

"And of course, let us give proper thanks to the gods who have seen us safely arrive..."

After Brother Abbas has finished leading the ship in a brief prayer, Theodremir gives a nod to Alexis who finally raises her glass and calls out enthusiastically, "Dig in men!"

Here here! A toast to fine friends and a grand adventure!

Elorin will eat heartily, knowing he better have a full stomach for the nights festivities ahead.

Pete trudges back to the ship tired and thirsty, and thinking to himself, Aye, me thinks I needs a drink ‘n mebbe a pipe o’ me special tabac.

On seeing the dinner spread, his eyes widen, and then he smells…yes…smells the ale casket, just freshly cracked open by the sound of it. All thoughts of retiring to his cabin have fled, and he moved towards the casket. Only by the efforts of several of the cooks standing guard around the opened casks, prevented him from getting the festivities started early. Aye, I t’ink ‘Lexis warned ‘em ‘bout me, if I say so meself. He also could not help but notice the wink from the elvish princess, when he caught her eye, after he was shooed away.

He settles down in his usual spot, and is relieved at having a tankard of ale already waiting for him. Catching Elorin’s eye, and seeing a look of challenge, he stares back, and tips his arm back in a quaffing motion.

”Aye, let’s get this celebration goin’!

Whispers to Pete and Biter

Pete and Biter or Perception DC 20:
How about a friendly wager boys. Each man that wants to enter and prove his mettle puts in 5gp, last man standing wins the lot. The game again is last man standing and test is how much ale you think you can consume. You throw up, you loose. You pass out, you loose. Lets keep it low key until our lady has retired for the night though...Biter maybe you should talk to Rath. He reaches into his purse, pulls out 5gp and puts them on the table in a mug and then downs his first beer like a man who has spent 50 years around soldiers who drink before every battle...

Last Man standing rules:
Each man starts making fortitude saves after 10 drinks starting at DC 1+#of drinks. You fail the save you throw up and are out. You role a 1, you are passed out and are out. Example, drink #13 is a DC 14 Fortitude save.

Perception:1d20 + 11 ⇒ (1) + 11 = 12

Apparently Gregor has already had too much to drink...

Perception 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (15) + 3 = 18 close!
Sense Motive 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (16) + 3 = 19 oh so very close...

Don't forget to apply feats like Endurance and racial qualities like the dwarven tolerance to poison guys. :)

Alexis winks when she sees Pete's nose lead him straight to the booze, yet she's happy to see the look of joy on his face when he discovers that his favorite tankard has already been pre-filled. As he and the others from Biter's group begin talking, eating and drinking, she comments to Rath, "At first I was worried that Elorin was going to take my decision to reassign him quite hard. Yet I'm glad to see that they are all getting along so well."

She smiles, snacking away on dates, olives, and cheese, clearly a little tipsy after her 3rd glass of wine. The men's fierce looks of competition are lost on her.

When Gregor hits the deck early, snoring like a 2-man saw she frowns. "Oh my..." she kneels beside the comatose druid and stroke his hair out of his face, "I guess maybe this is a bit too much excitement for someone of his age. Rath, could you please help me get him back to his quarters to sleep it off?"

As she sets her drink to the side, and tries to help Rath by bearing Gregor's other shoulder with his left arm draped around her shoulders she whispers, "...and we didn't even get to the first toast of the evening yet!"

"Burnsten!" she calls out seeing the Ulfen being a bit quiet and aloof, "you've been on the ship all day. Go have some drinks with the others!"

Elorin and Biter or Perception DC 20:

Spoiler:
"Aye, we kin wait 'til out lady friend 'as 'tired fer th' evenin'.". He then slaps down 5 gp, adding it to the pile Elorin has started,

Perception (game) 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (17) + 9 = 26

Rath watches the clandestine plotting of the game with amused interest.
He smiles as Alexis starts her third drink and is quite happy to escort Gregor downstairs, easily lifting the man and carrying him without assistance. "Please continue to enjoy, Rajkumari. I will be back soonly."

"Get your hands off of me....I'm fine, just a bit bleary eyed." As he picks up another flaggon of ale.

Gregor then thinks to himself, Definitely have to remember to mix up a few batches of that hangover cure in the morning.

Typical. Trust an elf to do whatever it takes to level the playing field, he he.

As the wager is struck, Biter scrambles up onto the tabletop to get a better vantage of his opponents. "Biter is'ing to drinking both of you to the ground!" He pulls out a small canvas strip and proudly flips it over, one solitary gold mark clanking sadly on the table. Angrily, he shakes it, just knowing more should come out, but none is forth-coming. Tossing the strip of cloth aside, he holds up one tiny finger and simultaneously reaches over his shoulder and begins frantically fishing around in his ever-present backpack. After a few seconds of this comically impromptu dance, he slams down his old chain shirt, ragged and dirty as it is. "Musting to be worthings 5g, yes?" Then he grabs his stein, which, like everything else human-size, looks ridiculous in his child-size hands. With a wink at the retreating Rath, the warrior goblin barks, "Bottom ising up!"

Biter's first 5 drinks (to save you guys some time):

01 • DC 2 - 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (17) + 6 = 23.
02 • DC 3 - 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (20) + 6 = 26.
03 • DC 4 - 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (10) + 6 = 16.
04 • DC 5 - 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (12) + 6 = 18.
05 • DC 6 - 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (8) + 6 = 14.

The first five drinks go down in a blinding frenzy of suds, the goblin heckling his would-be opponents.

As he grabs another round of 5 drinks (bringing them back simultaneously in his confidence), you can see a manic edge enter his red eyes. Drinks 6, 7, 8, 9, and 10 go down rapidly.

Drinks 5 to 10:

06 • DC 7 - 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (20) + 6 = 26.
07 • DC 8 - 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (18) + 6 = 24.
08 • DC 9 - 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (7) + 6 = 13.
09 • DC 10 - 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (1) + 6 = 7.
10 • DC 11 - 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (1) + 6 = 7.

"NOTTING TO BE ANY WAY YOU TWO CAN......WHAM" The tiny goblin slams into the table-top in a spray of toppled ale steins... unconscious before his round head can rebound even once, tiny little snores rising from his drooling mouth.

Anyone who surpasses drink 9 beats Biter... dang.

PSST!

Each man starts making fortitude saves after 10 drinks starting at DC 1+#of drinks. You fail the save you throw up and are out. You role a 1, you are passed out and are out. Example, drink #13 is a DC 14 Fortitude save.

Therefore Biter wouldn't hurl until after the drink you listed for #5 (which would actually be #15 for him). Likewise Gregor passed out after his 11th.

Pete watches the goblin with a look alternately flashing between approval, amazement, and outrage. Putting his drinking face on, which is not unlike a mask worn by a costumed bard, he motions for the serving lad to keep his favorite flagon filled. Soon the drinks start flowing down his gullet…one after another, keeping pace with the diminutive goblin.

Rolls

Spoiler:

11 • DC 12 - 1d20 + 4 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 4 + 2 = 8
12 • DC 13 - 1d20 + 4 + 2 ⇒ (17) + 4 + 2 = 23
13 • DC 14 - 1d20 + 4 + 2 ⇒ (16) + 4 + 2 = 22
14 • DC 15 - 1d20 + 4 + 2 ⇒ (12) + 4 + 2 = 18
15 • DC 16 - 1d20 + 4 + 2 ⇒ (6) + 4 + 2 = 12

On the tenth drink, Pete's eyes sway dangerously back in his eyes, and all who are watching are sure the doughty dwarf will crash to the floor, but he lets loos a mighty belch UUUUURRRRPPPPP and proceeds to down the eleventh flagon of ale.

"HA AH HA, whoosee still awaakkee...? He slurres a question to the onlookers. Then he answers his own question, by crashing to the floor, well and truly passed out. Anyone who braves the proximity of the dwarfs face, and hear a distinct rumbling sound coming from his belly.

After Rath gets waved away by the staggering, sleepy druid, Alexis conceals her giggling behind the sleeve of her gown yet can't mask the youthful amusement in her eyes. Concentrating for a moment, she asks, "So, what was it we were trying to talk about below that giant tree the other day before we got interrupted by the swarm of killer zombits?"

She thinks hard for a moment and then exclaims, "Oh, right! You were about to tell me about Jalmeray, weren't you?"

Actually, I don't recall rolling any fort saves....just a really bad perception check.

Fort Saves:

DC 11:1d20 + 4 ⇒ (15) + 4 = 19
DC 12:1d20 + 4 ⇒ (3) + 4 = 7
DC 13:1d20 + 4 ⇒ (13) + 4 = 17
DC 14:1d20 + 4 ⇒ (5) + 4 = 9
DC 15:1d20 + 4 ⇒ (15) + 4 = 19
DC 16:1d20 + 4 ⇒ (18) + 4 = 22

The tipsy princess jumps a bit when Biter and Pete keel over just moments after Gregor. Pouting slightly she calls out, "Elorin, is something wrong with that ale? Everyone keeps falling over!"

Drinking results thus far:
Round 11 - Pete out
Round 12 - Gregor out
Round 14 - Elorin out
Round 15 - Biter out

Guess we'll have to see if Rath or Burnsten join in... Just be lucky Anneke isn't here, you guys are getting off easy. FISH can't drink as much as she can! >:D

BTW, I think Colin's going to be gone most of the week so perhaps after an hour or so everyone gets their 2nd wind (after the crew has passed out) and all the party members can stay up late talking or something. :P

"Yes Alexis I'll join the rest" as he pets Tracant and let's him eat some beargle, he approaches his companions with some mead in his hand, "Well gentlemen, I can see you have a nice drinking habit" he smiles at them "May I sit and join you for the evening?" as he drinks his mead in one go "I'm very thirsty and hungry" as he takes a piece of beargle and start to eat it with proper manners.

Rath has a permanent grin at Alexis' state. He pays little attention to the drinking contest that seems to be reaching epic levels. He declines several offers to join in, citing his duty and sipping on no more than a glass or two of wine.

He smiles, "Only if it will amuse you, Rajkumari. What would you like to know?" He refills her goblet.

Alexis nods her thanks at what is to be her 4th glass of a rather excellent cabernet before looking around to figure out where there's a chair available. Shrugging at last, she sits atop a crate along the port railing and leans up against the sterncastle, gazing into the flame of the candle near her.

"Well..." she hold a dainty hand to her chest and says with great seriousness, "I haven't met many monks, BUT from what I can tell, I'd guess that you were an apt pupil!"

She nods in satisfaction before inhaling the cool salty air and snacking on a buttered roll that mysteriously found its way into her hand via Rath. Rinsing it down, she suddenly remembers, "Oh! So did you like it there? Jalmeray I mean. I mean... um... well that's not where you met Pathfinder what's his face I me— er... So what led you to leave?"

Sense Motive DC 10:
Alexis seems moderately annoyed with herself for repeating the same phrase over and over again. She really does seem to be trying her best to concentrate.

Pete wakes a couple of hours after the revelry dies down, with a pounding headache and a coppery taste in his mouth. Glancing about him, he realizes he is no longer on the floor of the dining hold but was movedback to his hammock. Aye, me thinks 'Lexis be takin' care o' me agin.

Struggling to his feet, he sways to his feet, and realizes he is still very hung over, but at least he was functional. He decides to head to the upper deck of the Rose, and get some fresh air.

Glancing around he sees the Lady Alexis talking quietly with Rath. He decides not to disturb them, allowing them their privacy. Being a loner by nature, he would not begrudge them their privacy. He muses how he had first met them, and being impressed with her beauty, which, like the finest rare mithril stone, went all the way to its core. maybe he should tell her so in person, but not now. Perhaps later.

He wondered, How was it possible for me to lose that game? Mebbe I be gettin' old. I be a long ways from home, mebbe that be me problem. Wonder 'ow the gobbie be 'andlin' dis, aferall he be even more alone than meself, now that Rath no longer be paired wit' 'im.

He decides to pay Biter a visit once the goblin has woken up from his ordeal.

"You mentioned 'caste' before. It sounded like feudalism... serfs, artisans, freemen, aristocrats... I mean... elves don't really do things the same way exactly. But back in Kyonin, lots of men father half-elven children and just abandon them to the human girls who were infatuated with them."

She sighs, "That's what I mean about Alissariel and I having a difficult time being accepted. I mean our parents were married and our mother a powerful noblewoman but..." She looks down and frowns a bit, "well, we kind of stand out around other elves I mean..."

She sighs further and absent-mindedly dips her fingers in the hot wax of the candle repeatedly until her finger tips are encased in wax which she then taps on the railing. "Those dresses sound like something Alis would like, you know. When we go back you'll have to show me around your homeland. We'll have you so decked out in gold and silks that they'll have to make a new caste for you!"

She giggles a bit at the thought. Based off of the sort of workmanship her personal tailor is capable of, you can only imagine how you might look. "Definitely have to buy her some dresses there... Alis I mean. Aaauugh! I said it again!"

Alexis laughs at her repetitiveness and winces a bit when she knocks the back of her head on the wall of the sterncastle.

"Hmm... so what did make you decide to follow Pathfinder... what's-his-face around, anyway? Ground get itchy below your feet? Feet... Pete!"

Alexis waves again to the moody dwarf. "Don't be shy, look at all the stars out tonight! Oh and watch out for Tracant, I think someone fed him a bit too much beargle and meeeeeaaade!"

She holds up her glass indicating the sky only to notice that it's run dry yet again. A moment later and Rath notices that Alexis has fallen asleep against his shoulder with wax on her left hand and holding an empty wineglass in her lap.

Alright, I know Justin and Eric are still up. Talk amongst yaselves!

Pete walks over to join the Princess and Rath, on seeing then wave him over, once again marveling at her beauty, even though she was now passed out, and leaning against Rath’s body. Moving quietly so as not to disturb her, he sits quietly next to Rath, and says quietly, ”Aye it be a pretty night, even fer us who spend all th’ time underground” He allows a rare smile to cross his face while gazing at the sleeping form of Alexis, a look of contentment on her face, and says quietly to the stoic monk, Aye she be a beauty, rivaling the shiniest mithril diamond eveah crafted by Yuelral.” He stares off the railing of the Rose for a moment, and then continues, ”If’n ye tell ‘er I said that, I be denying it ta me grave.” He looks directly into Rath's eyes, and says, "She couldna picked a betteah man ta pertec 'er."

Rath smiles ruefully, not wishing to ruin her mood by the realities of the caste system but unwilling to lie either. "Hm... don't think they will make caste just for me... but perhaps they cannot refuse Kirmoon charm."

Rath looks sympathetically at her and says with frank admiration, "You and Alis stand out from other people, not just elves, Rajkumari. And it not because of your parentage."

He smiles with real humor, "'Vorhees' was name. I went with him because he needed a bodyguard and I had no other plans. Seems 'bodyguarding' is good occupation for me."

Rath gently removes the wineglass from her hand and sets it down. He supports her body while shifting position so he can recline against the sterncastle. Rath gently lifts and resettles her in front of him, his arms bracketing her. The small woman rests comfortably against his large frame. Rath finds the arrangement satisfactory. There is no easy way for Alexis to fall over and if the weather turns cold, she should remain warm.

He nods a greeting to Pete, inviting him to sit, if he wishes.

Pete lays back against the forecastle, enjoying the solitude for a few moments, then a sense of curiosity overcomes him, and he asks Rath quietly, respecting the sleeping form of Alexis, "Ye has th’ look o’ an outcast, methinks, specially since I sees that same look ever’ morning, when I look in the basin. Is’n that why ye ‘n Biter be friends?”
