I will move ahead with the list of more esoteric stuff early next week, Monday or Tuesday most likely. I will include the opening bid for the items and in the case of magic items, you will know exactly what is what.

If you want to bid on the bear, opening bid is 60gp and at least one guy for sure wants it, lol.


Okay, so the good stuff!

  • Clockworks lab lot - tools, parts, documents, etc. from the clockworks laboratory. Opening Bid: 1000 gp.
  • Hunclay's spellbooks - the ones from the basement. The good ones. Opening Bid: 4000 gp.
  • Book of Extended Summoning Opening Bid: 550 gp.
  • Flesh Golem Manual Opening Bid: 2000 gp.
  • Manual of War Opening Bid: 1500 gp.
  • Potions lot - oil of keen edge, a potion of undetectable alignment, a potion of protection from acid, and a potion of protection from fire. Opening Bid: 650 gp
  • Scrolls lot - scroll of campfire wall, a scroll of excruciating deformation, a scroll of haunting mists, and a scroll of magic circle against chaos Opening Bid: 225 gp
  • And that's it since one of you pocketed the summoning journal and you considered the cave stuff outside of your contract!

    The opening bid is the absolute minimum you will have to pay. When you bid you will need to include a single bluff or intimidate check.

    Now, for each full multiple of the opening bid you decide to bid, you gain a +2 bonus on the check. So if you bid only 4000 for the spell books, then you gain no bonus. On the other hand, if you bid 450 for the scrolls, twice the opening bid, you gain a +2 bonus on the check. If you were to bid 675, you would get a +4 since that's 3 times the opening bid. Make sense?

    The DC for the check varies depending on the lot in question, however there is a winning bid amount. If you happen to bid that much or more you win regardless of the check result.

    On the Book of Extended Summoning...What alignment is it keyed to? It should work for Druid Summoning spells, but only if the alignmnet is appropriate.


    Oops, I hadn't noticed they never specified in the module! It is the normal type, not greater or lesser, they tell me that much. Since the text says found books have an equal chance and Hunclay would summon anything he could to interrogate: 01-25 = Good, 26-50 = Evil, 51-75 = Lawful, and 76+ = Chaotic.

    Align?: 1d100 ⇒ 3

    So keyed to good alignment. I have no idea if that helps or hinders in your interest...

    Could you list what spells he has in his spellbook? Otherwise I am surprisingly not very interested in most of this.


    This is another where there is some info, but not all of it. They basically say "X number of y level spells." Rather than roll or curate a list, here is what I'm coming up with:

    There are 100 total spells in the collection. If you want to try and learn a spell you can roll percentile dice as follows:

    1st level - 90% chance the spell is in one of the books.
    2nd level - 70%
    3rd level - 50%
    4th level - 30%
    5th level - 15%

    Spells from the conjuration school have a +10% to the base chance.

    Once 100 spells have been located, all spells are accounted for.

    The spells from the scroll lot are NOT in his spellbooks. This I do know from the text because it mentions that he had not yet added them. The custom wall of light is in the book and does not count toward the 100.

    Hmm...Renliat will want to bid on the spellbook. However his charisma is awful, so I am wondering if I can get another more socially-capable party member to do the bidding on my behalf?


    Yes, absolutely. One person can be the bidder. This was never the most socially oriented group, lol, Maellyra might have had the intimidation, but I think either Pavo or Wil are the best bets. Also don't forget that the Baroness will cover half your bids up to whatever limit I said and don't recall while at work.

    I actually wouldn't mind making golems either, but a flesh golem would be a little too...evil for Renliat's tastes.

    The Summoning book won't work for me unless there is an animal (Summon Natuure's Ally) with a good alignment then. Anybody else summon good-aligned monsters?


    When I played on y'all's side of the screen in this we really only wanted the consumables, I won't be insulted if you don't bid on anything, lol. I'm more than happy to run full force into the big scene that's coming. >:D

    Ironically this is one of my few arcane casters who isn't a summoning specialist.

    Unfortunately I don't think we have much money to be bidding on anything, and I think I will back away from the spellbook as well since it likely has a ton of spells I will never use.

    Your an Evocation a wizard right? Can you cast Conjuration spells or is that a prohibited school for you? If so...I would go for it. Its really worth it for you, even if you can't cast all the spells. Once you learn/copy the spells you CAN cast you can RESALE the books later. It's up to you in the end...but spell selection/variability is the Wizard's forte. If not the spellbooks, can you use the scrolls? You can add them to your spellbook too, if you can learn them.


    Okay, since the next few days will be kind of busy for me, I'm thinking I press ahead with the important stuff now and if any bids want to be made we can do that here off-screen. Look for a post in gameplay shortly.

    I understand, but purchasing random unknown spells is likely not worth it. Not only do I have to purchase the entire raw spellbook, I then have to pay to copy it. It's better to purchase scrolls for precisely what I need. Besides, as an evoker I'm more likely to be preparing fireball 3 times rather than three different kinds of versatile conjuration spells.

    And on top of that we really can't afford it.

    Well, prepared spells as needed. He has some buffs if he's being targeted, like mirror image and windy escape, and some situational stuff like feather fall and liberating command.

    Otherwise he will throw out damage when the fights heat up, and will conserve resources via cantrips against easier fights or when they're winding down.

    Fireball against large group, haste if it looks like a really serious fight.

    Renliat will avoid fire friendly if at all possible and will only use it as a last resort, and only if he's relatively sure the ally can take it and he will do more good than harm.
