Welcome to the game everyone! You can find the Roll20 link in the campaign description so check in when you get a moment, claim a slot in the character journal and upload a token/pic. The journal tab will also hold a short list of active quests (some of them are sort of like video game achievements rather than quests), so they can be helpful reminders.

I try to check in daily, on occasion I might be unavailable for a day or maybe two, but anything longer than that would be announced ahead of time.

Take a little time to figure out if you want to incorporate background skills or not, or any other minor tweaks you might want to make such as swapping languages or knowledge skills to feel more covered. I will open the game thread in a day or so with an intro. You'll pretty much find action demanding your attention right a way.

Male Kobold (Blue-Scaled) Tempest Druid 5 | HP 34/34| Speed 30ft | AC 20, touch 13, flat-footed 18, CMD 13 | Fort +5 : Ref +3 : Will +8 | Wild Empathy: +6 | Stealth +11; Perception +12 | Resist Elec 5, Acid 20 | Hero Points: 1/3 left| Active: Light Sensitive

I like background skills. Especially the 'Lore' skills. You never know when one will come in handy!

So I vote 'yes' on backgound skills.

I'm also a fan of the Hero Points alternate rules(or is it Action points?).

What say you all?

INACTIVE - GAME DIED

I like background skills. I can take or leave Hero points.

Thanks for the pick, DM! Hi everyone! I'm Kat, and I'm looking forward to playing with you all.

I like using background skills, so if we do go that route, I think I'll pick up Knowledge (Local & Geography) with the extra skill points that are freed up. I've never played using Hero Points before. I'm always happy to give new things a try, but I won't miss it if we don't use them.

I also can take or leave hero points. They can be useful for saving your behind, but they can be easy to forget about. I would need to reread the rules to figure out how they'd work on PbP if I did use them.

By the way, because I can work with Spitter's recent history in an interesting way, I will do so rather than finding a way to inorganically shoehorn him into the story. So you will start somewhat split, but that won't last long. Just let your characters be a little extra trusting when you first meet the blue kobold :P

I too vote Yes for Background Skills.

Howdy all. Pavo will be experimenting with the Net Adept fighting style and looking for ways to harass foes through flanking and other mischievous and underhanded yet polite and upstanding methods. He'll have some face skills and be relatively good at dealing with people, but he won't have a clue about monsters for the most part. He'll like to knock people out rather than kill them, which should fit in well with the paladin I think.

I've been in one or two games that allowed Hero Points, but never had the need, although I suppose it's better to have them and not need them than need them and not have them. Shrug, I'm good with or without them.

I look forward to gaming with everyone.

So everybody knows in advance!

Leng is a very bland individual. He's not very sociable but neither is he off-putting. So I will have him talk from time to time but he probably won't be very exciting, nor is he a great choice for talking to NPCs.

Tactically - but this might be something that our characters need to figure out as they learn to work together - he's built to take advantage of reach and Combat Reflexes to smack enemies as they close in or move around nearby. If absolutely necessary he can use his unarmed combat to do nonlethal damage, but by default his weapon attacks are with a kusarigama, which is decidedly lethal.

Male Kobold (Blue-Scaled) Tempest Druid 5 | HP 34/34| Speed 30ft | AC 20, touch 13, flat-footed 18, CMD 13 | Fort +5 : Ref +3 : Will +8 | Wild Empathy: +6 | Stealth +11; Perception +12 | Resist Elec 5, Acid 20 | Hero Points: 1/3 left| Active: Light Sensitive

Spitter, being a Kobold, is light on physical attacks, but he makes up for it in magical ability.

He will mostly sneak around and snipe with Ranged Touch and area of effect attacks. Once he gains the ability to take animal shapes, that might change a little. He's mostly a spellcaster and healer if he can help it.

He uses the 'Cloud' subdomain and as a Tempest Druid focuses on electrical attacks and defenses mostly.

He's a good backup healer, buffer, and magical blaster/sniper eventually, but I doubt he will ever excel too much at one one thing any time soon.

Hi guys!

Thanks for the selection, GM! Sorry I didn't post earlier here - Paizo had been acting quite a bit for me. I can't see when the posts are updated!

Anyway... Pleasure to be here with you guys.

About Background Skills: love it, but I'm fine without them as well.

About Hero Points: don't really care much about them, especially in a PbP. I think they work better in a table.

About my character: Shayn is a paladin and fights as such :) he's more of a melee damage dealer with defensive capabilities, which probably will be my focus most of the time.

From the alternate rules, I like the automatic bonus progression too, and that other homebrew set of rules someone build about feat prereqs etc., but sincerely I'd rather play a more "Paizo-official material only" type of game (I can adapt if needed).

Cheers :)

Male Kobold (Blue-Scaled) Tempest Druid 5 | HP 34/34| Speed 30ft | AC 20, touch 13, flat-footed 18, CMD 13 | Fort +5 : Ref +3 : Will +8 | Wild Empathy: +6 | Stealth +11; Perception +12 | Resist Elec 5, Acid 20 | Hero Points: 1/3 left| Active: Light Sensitive

Well...

I think that's a general Yes to Background skills.

Mostly Ho-Hum on Hero points.

One new vote for Auto-Bonus Progression?

However, I personally would have to say NO to that myself. I have one character using Auto-Bonus in another PBP and truthfully I don't like it much.

I'm not a fan at all of ABP, and it doesn't work well with this module. Since the overall interest in Hero Points is low, and they could cause continuity issues with PbP, I'm not going to use them as presented. Instead:

Each character gains one MHP (Modified Hero Point) per level. Those points can only be spent on "Reroll" or "Cheat Death" uses. Spells or abilities which would affect Hero Points remain out of play.

Go ahead and fix your characters to reflect background skills and make any final adjustments you need. I will be posting the game thread sometime today.

The gameplay thread is up and live. I truncated the opening some so that we could keep from being split for very long, but don't worry, there will be plenty of time to explore the town.

Spitter has a minute or two before people start to really arrive to gawk (ignore the townsfolk and deputy icons currently on the map on Roll20 for the moment), so feel free to take some actions as you want.

And yeah, some of these maps were huge, and breaking them down smaller became a logistical nightmare, so if you can't find the action on the map, zoom out first.

Male Kobold (Blue-Scaled) Tempest Druid 5 | HP 34/34| Speed 30ft | AC 20, touch 13, flat-footed 18, CMD 13 | Fort +5 : Ref +3 : Will +8 | Wild Empathy: +6 | Stealth +11; Perception +12 | Resist Elec 5, Acid 20 | Hero Points: 1/3 left| Active: Light Sensitive

Some basic personal stuff:

I've been playing and running Pathfinder for many years, but playing PbP for only a year or so.

I'm currently playing 12 different characters in PbP games and I try to post daily in all of them. I'm not sure I'm organized enough to run a PbP game, however, any time soon.

I live near Dallas (Texas) and I have a wife and 3 year old son. So life sometimes takes me aside from this, but so far I've managed.

Personal favorite things about Pathfinder: Leveling Up, Cool Magic Items, and finding unique ways to accomplish game goals. It's a Bonus if I can get people to laugh while doing it!

=)

Sure, let's get personal:

First off, I'd like to say that it's nice to be sitting at the table with some familiar faces, and I look forward to getting to know those of you I haven't had the privilege of gaming with until now. =)

I've been playing Pathfinder for a grand total of eight months now. It'll be nine in April. As such, there's plenty for me to still learn about the game (and relearn), so if any of you see goofs on my part, please feel free to point them out.

PbP is the only format I've tried so far. I'm sure there are places to play face-to-face in my area (Miami), but I feel like that style of gaming, although fast-paced, would lose a lot as far as role-playing is concerned, but maybe someone more experienced can confirm or deny this for me.

I'm enjoying this game with you all so far, and I'm looking forward to developing our group dynamics. You know, once Spitter stops running away from us. Luckily for him, Maellyra only has a range of 25 feet with daze right now.

Also, in response to Shayn's ooc comment in gameplay, I think the one of the open slots in the Roll20 journal is locked to us players, but the last one isn't. If you need help setting up your image, let me know and I'll give you a step-by-step. ;)

Introductions!

I'm an old-timer with gray hair (a very small amount of gray hair). I like good roleplay and I like party cooperation in solving challenges together.

I am always happy to help out and I don't really care much about min-maxing.

Been roleplaying for close to 25 years now. Married with 2 kids yet I still try to find the time to run three PbP games and play in numerous others. The teamwork, tactics and problem solving are the biggest draws for me. I've been doing PbP for about a year or two and it definitely adds some more opportunities for roleplaying. I also try to get a live game going with friends once a week so thank goodness for technology or it would be impossible.

Full disclosure, Pavo and I have been playing at the same table for decades :) Been gaming since I snuck into my brother's room around 11 or 12 and stole his Star Frontiers Box Set, though it took a while to go from a strange curiosity to a an actual hobby.

Maellyra, there is for sure more opportunity to explore nuances of NPCs, character interaction, and settings in PbP than at a live table game. That doesn't mean that there isn't a lot to love about hanging out with friends for a few hours for a game. The two are the same, but they're vastly different. ;)

Keepin' my gray to my beard for now, Leng, lol. Highly recommended :P

Shayn, I'll check those permissions later today, Maellyra may be correct that that is the problem.

INACTIVE - GAME DIED

I was referring less to "small amount of gray" and more to "small amount of hair." :D

Hey guys! Shayn here. Already past half of my fourth decade of life (but still didn't complete it! Yay!), married and with one young daughter. :) We all live on the West coast, near Seattle. It's nice to meet you all.

Maellyra was right. I did not set the edit permissions correctly on one of the slots. If you need any assistance, let us know. You'll soon be exploring, and you can bet on some combat down the line, so it will be useful.

You'll also notice that the Baroness and the strange gnome are visible in the Journal.

That was my understanding at first, but after rereading DM's post, I think we (Spitter & Maellyra) might be on A3 while Shayn and Leng are on A4, but I'll hold off on moving my token in Roll20 again until DM Dickie confirms.

Since you two are currently investigating the kobold bodies, I've placed you around A3, and you can feel free to come down to A4 when you want. Pavo's the only one currently left behind on the rubble until he posts :P

I will be camping this weekend and may not have internet. Bot if needed!

No worries. I'm sure there are probably a few other folks who may have limited access this weekend.

On that note, the following weekend I may not be available/have limited availability the weekend after (the 21st thru 23rd).

By the way, I played this module before preparing to run it and found this guy to be a total pain. Not lethal, just frustrating. That is why I am playing up the mockery so much, I want him to be as memorable to you as he was to me, lol.

Imagining that actually made me wince. Cold, lady, cold :D With him affected by the strength penalty still, it wouldn't be difficult to kill the poor wittle misunderstood devil in cold blood.

Hi,

I'm posting this on all my PbPs, as player or GM - I had a family emergency last Monday, due to an accident, and had not been able to post or even communicate of my absence. In parallel, as a consequence of the situation not improving, my undivided attention on such matter will be required on the months to follow and, therefore, I'm stepping out of most of my activity online. I apologize for the inconveniences it might cause and I wish you all the best, and fun on your games. Thanks all for the understanding and for the opportunity to play with you.

The Chess / adsapiens

Well that sucks man. I hope things get better for you!

I think we're coming up on the end of the tower crawl...right? So if the GM wants to post a new recruitment soon for the next part,...or go back to the original recruitment pool maybe...that's fine by me. I'm still having fun and want to keep going.

I'm sorry to hear that, Chess. You will be missed, but family comes first. Wishing all the best for you and yours!

I agree with Spitter. They'll have big shoes to fill, but a Big Doofy Paladin with a heart of gold would go a ways toward filling the void in our party.

Totally understand, I hope everything works out and things get better for you and yours. Don't hesitate to check back in if things have improved, even if I fill the spot, you're welcome back anytime.

All - I will leave it to a vote as to whether you want to recruit someone else. I tend to over-recruit just in case of a situation like this, but up to you guys and gals. After this, it is easy to allow everyone a few days in town, perfect time to meet someone new.

I'm the meantime, I intend to "bot" Shayn for the remaineder of this section for continuity's sake and figure out some reasonable excuse for his departure after finishing the job. Please feel free to proceed as normal.

I'm fine with recruiting a replacement once we return to town.

What effective strengh bonus does it have? +1?

While the bow is sized for me, I can't really use it effectively. So we can sell or trade it if you guys want to do so.

Sound fair?

None. It is just a 250% markup for 10 foot more range, which is why I decided to augment the treasure for that encounter with one, lol.

So 160gp + 100gp + how are we dividing the 350 from gems and platinum. I have no issues dividing it 6 ways since technically Shayn was a part of the group at the time but if he's leaving are we splitting up his share or letting it walk. I'm good either way, just want it to be clear. Also, the mithral daggers, what are we doing with those? I'd like one if possible.

We need sell the bow or trade it? its worth a good amount...unless I can trade it in for something I can use?

There are a variety of shops and businesses around the town that may be interested in buying or swapping. Basic commerce can be hand-waved, and you can assume that items sold are worth half the book value. Negotiating trades on the other hand? In a town like this, that has potential to reveal things and make connections.

I've posted in the recruitment thread to seek someone new. If anyone has any recommendations regarding that, feel free to check in and provide advice.

I'm comfortable with leaving it to the more experienced folks to weigh in on what our group needs, but I will be checking the recruitment thread to look over the prospective characters.
