Oscar doesn't stop to ponder the wisdom of setting a fire in a room so filled with potential consumables. Stepping forward he calls on all his training... but lightheaded and agonised from the vial that came so close to ending him, he loses the spell, which fortunately fizzes harmlessly into the air.

Oscar should have advanced on the map - did you want to put one of those attacks on Oscar?
Shivering Oscar backs away, looking for an area to draw and load his crossbow, or assemble his longspear. "Velrun! Save Drin! Euphemia! Tess! Can you block the door from the other side?"

Euphemia glares over at Crux and heaves a heavy sigh. "I'll do what I can to delay him, but someone needs to get up there!"

Taking up her holy symbol once more, she sets her gaze on Crux and begins to utter an incantation as her free hand dances in somatic gesturing; as the spell comes to completion she opens her mouth and looks as though some sort of noise should be coming out, yet none of her companions can hear a thing...

... Crux, however, finds his ears filled with a horrible sonic shriek.

Ear-Piercing Scream, DC 14 Fortitude save to negate being dazed. Since Euphemia is only CL1, it deals no damage.

With that deed performed, whether successfully or not, she reaches into her (somewhat ale-scented) vest to produce a rather wimpy looking knife.

I think leave it as is...

Euphemia:It isn't obvious given that the alchymist is struggling with the effects of Velrun's magicks... but it doesn't seem that Crux has been affected by Euphemia's spell...

Crux, Fort Save vs Ear-Piercing Scream: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (19) + 5 = 24, Saved

Velrun's rapier slips easily into the squamous flesh of the creature dangling from Drin's leg... yet, as he pulls it clear, the wound doesn't bleed and, to the extent that can be seen through the viscous embalming materials, the hole in the flesh closes over itself...

Slamming down hard with his staff, Drin drives his weapon through the grim thing trying to attach itself to his leg... so hard is the blow that the creature seems to spontaneously collapse into a mass of pink-grey matter...

When a pickled punk is destroyed, it discorporates into a fleshy sludge. Any creatures adjacent to a pickled punk (i.e. Drin) when it is destroyed must succeed at a DC 12 Fortitude save or be nauseated for 1 round.

Tessara once more fails to strike her target as she throws more half-emptied vials towards the remaining creature... and so, mindlessly trying to move past Drin's furiously wielded weapon, the thing bites and attaches itself to the halfling's leg.

Maybe distracted by the fleshy mass dissolving at his feet, a puddle of bile doused with globules of fat, Drin's blow is a little too wild... indeed, he is fortunate not to crack himself across the shins with his staff. Euphemia is far more effective - holding back the nausea as she reaches out and touches the cold-fleshed thing... her healing energies pulse through the creature sending ripples of destabilising power to its very core. Tenacious though, it continues to cling to Drin's leg... and bites once more...

Realizing there is nothing else she can do for the moment, Euphemia simply clasps her hands together and takes a step back from the madness continuing to unfold as the group scuffles with the pickled punk.

Velrun, once more, is too cautious and, in ensuring he doesn't catch Drin with the jagged edge of his smashed bottle... fails to strike the creature on his friend's leg. Fortunately Oscar is able to pull it away a little... it's fetid body stretching horrifically as its teeth remain firmly embedded in Drin's thigh - until, utterly fed up with the whole affair, the halfling smashed his staff down once more - and the creature is dead.

...meanwhile, outside in the alleyway - Tessara flings a dagger - more in frustration and anger than with any chance of causing harm - towards the fleeing alchymist. Velrun sighs in relief as the final undead is vanquished, "Are you OK Drin," he asks anxiously as he secures his rapier back in his sheath.

As Tessara announces the fact Crux has escaped their clutches a look of uncertainty flits upon his youthful face. "I...dunno what we should do here. I think it will take some time to comb this shop for this...Nail, assuming he did not carry it on his body," glancing towards the back counter nervously, "And he may return soon, bringing either the watch, or other muscle to take care of us!"

Euphemia brushes stray bits of hair from her face as she looks around the shoppe. Rather uncomfortably, she realizes she's standing in the middle of what is most likely a crime scene. "Then... I suggest we split up and look. Quickly."

She takes a step closer to Oscar and eyes him. "I can offer some healing if you would like it."

Noble Scion Arcanist. Spells 0/3 1st HP 6/7 AC 15

"I think we need to assume he had the nail. What we need to know is; where did he go?" Oscar looked to the Homunculus "Do you think that would have any idea?"

The need to be quick now is obvious... who knows what Crux may be planning, and then there are Hood's Rats outside of the shop - they haven't reacted to the noise from within the shop... yet. And there is always the Office of the Watch...

And so, the group deciding not to pursue Crux, turn their attentions back towards the shop... an immediate look through the corridor through which Crux escaped reveals that, floating within heavy glass jars and seemingly inanimate, there are many more of the horrific creatures that attacked Drin - to the right kind of collector, these are probably worth a generous amount of money... but they are unwieldy and far too bulky to simply take...

So while Oscar quizzes the homuncule, garnering only single word - and utterly useless - answers like "Buy", "Pay" and "Goodbye", the rest of the group look beyond the corridor at the rear of the shop and, opening a side door, into the chaotic heart of Crux's store. This messy office and bedroom contains stacks of bound arcane publications arranged in teetering stacks, and a messy desk and shelves stacked with occult implements, carefully balanced alchymical apparatus, and numerous relics of questionable provenance and worth.

The smell of rotting food is strong here, wafting from several half-eaten meals on tin plates and bowls haphazardly placed on piles all around the bed.

Let's go with a house rule that is in use in one of the games that I am playing in: when healing out of combat, the healing is equivalent to maximised - i.e. for Euphemia's healing, out of combat, 1d8+1 would be equal to 9 and Oscar would be at Maximum Health... Hoorah!!!

Crux’s domicile is a cluttered room that serves as office, as bedroom, and as a collection archive. First impressions suggest that this is an extension of the shop but, according to the ephemera that is spread around the place, it likely houses Crux's private collection. There is all manner of occult collectibles and religious artefacts here, including the mummified head of a vampire that still grimaces at the presentation of holy symbols, a twig fetish of a hideous frog demon, and a red-gold censer containing some bizarre - and long dead - deep sea creature.

The desk in the office has its closed drawers stuffed with parchments and scrolls, so much so that loose sheets of velum protrude outwards - a cursory check, even without opening the drawers, reveals that these scrolls are likely arcane in nature... and in a place such as Castorhage, worth significant money to the right person. Atop the desk is the strangest thing of all, a mummified shape - broadly humanoid but about the size of a large cat - with its bandages extensively daubed with occult sigils...

Euphemia has a spear half-tossed, half-dropped at her feet. She drops her own knife with a clatter against the floor, steps back and leans over to awkwardly take the spear in her hands, then thrusts it at the... abomination on the desk.

Longspear Attack: 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (3) - 1 = 2

— Or, at least, she tries to. There is now an unpleasant gash against the desk's side.

Free Actions — Drop dagger, take five-foot step. Move action — Pick up object. Standard — Attack.

With everyone gathered around the tiny creature, Tess doubter there would be any chance to hit it, but she again tried to strike the guard with her dagger.

Drin delays again... will drop a PM his way...

The creature, small yet savage, eludes the attacks aimed towards it... until Tessara, stepping forwards stabs steel straight through the husk within the bandages. Yet it is not enough to stop the thing flipping, shuffling and biting... a horrid thing... snapping at Tessara even as it wriggles from her blade...

Ningyo, Bite vs Tessara: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (8) + 2 = 10, missing
Ningyo, Claw vs Tessara: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (4) + 2 = 6, missing
Ningyo, Claw vs Tessara: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (9) + 2 = 11, hitting for 1d3 - 1 ⇒ (3) - 1 = 2

Everyone may act now
