This feat: Shaft and Shield is available to anyone who wants it. This is because the normal PF rules don't let you wield a long spear and shield without heavy penalties, and that was the Germanic people's normal fighting style.
Available as in free to everyone or just available to take? Berengar might not mind going spear-shield once in a while, but I don't want to replace an existing feat slot.

@ Berengar - As in you can take it, not for free. I still plan on giving everyone an extra feat after selection based on background. I could make Shaft and Shield an option for everyone since that's the fighting style you would all have been exposed to growing up.

@ Ordric - You may want to consider a longspear over a spear. If they close you can shield slam/bullrush them back to reach range where you stab them with your spear. Keeping them at range keeps you from getting stabbed. Damage is the same as a spear.
