The Azlanti Accords- An Evil Starfinder Campaign

Game Master GM-Gathrix

"You are not special. I want that to be clear. You are but one of hundreds of teams being sent to the so-called "Pact Worlds" to hasten its subjugation. Though you are not special, you are mine. My team, and you answer to me. You are to infiltrate their governments, their churches, their corporations, even the criminal elements, and destroy them from within. That is your only purpose. When enough damage has been done I will contact you again, but not before. Should you be captured, death is your only option. If you lack the courage, well as I said you are not special. Plenty of other teams will be waiting for the opportunity to do the honors for you. So failure isn't an option. Is that understood" The Praetor glares at all of you with a discerning eye that will accept no weakness or flaws. You are part of the Azlanti Star Empire, destined to rule all...

Hello all, Starfinder GM here with an Evil Starfinder Campaign. You will play infiltrators from the Azlanti Star Empire seeking to disrupt the pact worlds as much as possible to weaken it from within. If that sounds like something you would like to do then submit an application. This game will be theatre of the mind without combat maps.

Character Creation:
Evil Alignment, preferably Lawful Evil. 10 point buy. Any Race from the Core including legacy races. One Campaign Race will be included, and playable races from First Contact will be considered. Third party content will be considered if you have a source you can share. No Icons, but all other themes as well as a few campaign specific themes are welcome. All classes are fine, but No Archetypes. Again third party will be considered. 1,000 credits to start.Level+1 items only to start.

New Race-Azlanti:
Based on the content from Inner Sea World Guide Pathfinder :
Azlanti +2 to all stats. 4 HP

Uncontrolled Contempt -6 to all Diplomacy rolls when dealing with non-Azlanti. You can not hide your contempt for the lesser races.

Beneath You -4 to any skill that is considered beneath your attention. Examining a corpse, Haggling over a price, or physical labor are examples of this.

Playing an Azlanti you likely

  • See yourself and your race as far superior to others.
  • Have a lot of potential, but not much experience
  • Have owned slaves
  • Believe the expansion of the Azlanti Star Empire is destiny
  • Have purple eyes

Other Races Probably
  • Fear You.
  • Are intrigued by your legacy
  • Believe you are very arrogant (which happens to be true)

New Themes:

Azlanti Royalty- Azlanti Only +1 Int
Theme Knowledge (1st)
You are a Pureblood Azlanti and can trace your line to the original settlers of New Thespera.
Reduce the DC of Culture Checks related to Azlanti people and the Azlanti Star Empire by 10. Other races are of little notice to you, increase DC of all other Culture Checks by 5. Ruling by fear and intimidation is second nature to you, and intimidation is a class skill. Your intelligence is superior and receive +1 to intelligence.

Natural Leader (6th)
You know how to lead and it shows. Anytime you aid another on a skill you give a bonus equal to half your level. You do not suffer the penalties from “Beneath You” when aiding another in this way (you are leading them not aiding them).

Political Mastermind (12th)
The Empire doesn't sustain itself on brutality alone. Knowing how to deal with politicians is inevitable. Anytime you use Bluff to lie or Diplomacy to Gather Information, you may roll twice and take the highest roll. You do not suffer the penalty from “Uncontrolled Contempt” when using diplomacy in this way.

Dominance (18th)
Any time you successfully intimidate or deal the finishing blow to an enemy you regain 1 resolve. This doesn't count as resting for any other purpose.

Subordinate Race- Non-Azlanti Only +1Cha

Theme Knowledge (1st)
You are a subordinate race for the Azlanti Star Empire. Your loyalty is appreciated, but so long as you know your place. You gain +1 to all cha based skills when dealing with Azlanti so long as you are lower level than them. Reduce the DC of culture checks related to Azlanti Star Empire by 5. Your agreeableness gives you a +1 to Charisma.

Eager to Please (6th)
Centuries of being dominated by the Azlanti Star Empire has taught you that the path to happiness is through your masters. When an Azlanti is within 10' of you, once per combat you can reroll a single attack and take the highest result. When being aided by an Azlanti in a skill, you can reroll and take the highest result.

Personal Attendant (12th)
Your loyalty has not gone unnoticed and you are considered a great asset to your masters. Recieve a level 12 or lower item of your choice (with GM approval) from your masters. When healing or being healed by an Azlanti, add +1 to the wounds healed.

Second Class Citizen(18th)
You have earned citizenship within the Azlanti StarEmpire. Increase all item availability by 1 when within the Empire. When ever an Azlanti or another Subordinate Race within 10' from you regains a resolve point, you regain a resolve point (can not exceed max).

Tax Collector +1 Wis

Theme Knowledge(1st)
You are an official tribute and tax collector for the Empire. Your experience has given you insight into many cultures and finance. Culture and Profession: Tax Collector are class skills for you, if they are already class skills you gain +1 bonus to them. Reduce the DC of any skill related to a financial exchange (GM discretion) by 5. You gain +1 Wisdom for your financial savvy.

Quick Count (6th)
Anytime a skill requires you to count reduce the time by half. Many cultures still use hard currency and years of counting coins through your fingers has translated into other abilities- Any small arms or longarms weapon you are using is considered to have the Quick Reload special property.

Skimming Profits (12th)
You know how to make the books look good, and keep a little for yourself. Sleight of Hand is a class skill, if it is already a skill add +1 bonus to the skill. Anytime you hack a system using the Computers skill to falsify records, you can do so untrained and reroll and take the highest.

Corporate Liaison (18th)
You realize that the real money is in crony capitalism. Gain 50,000 credits from a lobbyist or government subsidy. Any time you make money equal to 1000xlevel from combat or financial exchange, you regain 1 resolve point.

This game will be largely player driven, so know what you want to play, but also how you plan on subverting the Pact Worlds. Recruitment open for 1 week. I will decide players on the 19th.

Silver Crusade

Definitely looking into playing a loyal Vesk soldier of the Azlanti Empire! I will not go with the standard raging, mindless hulk that most Vesk are portrayed as, but as a calm, rational individual who feigns being brutish when around those of the Core Worlds to allay suspicions. After all, who will look deeper when one clearly exhibits flaws on the surface, especially with a brute like a Vesk? Preying on misconceptions is a key trait of a subversive element, after all.

To those he 'serves with' in the worlds he infiltrates, he is the very definition of a Vesk, a stubborn-headed brute with an overdeveloped sense of honor, a taste for battle, and a love of the more low-brow pleasures of food, booze, and women, seemingly simple to manipulate and coerce by appealing to his 'honor' or his more bestial urges. He comes across as brusque and overly candid, much like the majority of his race.

To those who know him in private, such as those who are his comrades from the Empire, he is a thoughtful, highly logical individual with a will of iron and a keen sense of people and how to best get in their heads (quite literally if I go the route of mindkiller... *SPLAT*). In his own private time, and in some suitable disguise, he enjoys visiting various artistic, intellectual, and philosophical events. He is utterly ruthless and dogged in his drive to achieve his goals, willing as he is to plunge the entire Pact Worlds into war to bring about their subjugation. He is meticulous in his duties and often makes several backup schemes in case something goes awry. He revels in mind games the same way most Vesk revel in the joy of the kill and enjoys watching as those under his influence destroy themselves. He has only contempt for those who calls 'the hidebound', those whose sole merit is their physical strength and rely on it to get them through life. He views slavery to the Empire as a gift, one that uplifts the weak and forges them into something strong. He has seen numerous savage, primitive races enslaved and raised into cultured, productive, and obedient members of the empire and knows in his heart of hearts that they benefited well from their servitude. He knows he has in any case, as the Empire stripped from him the weak-minded and shallow ideals of his former clan and replaced them with a singular purpose and a new 'clan', one worthy of serving.

Still, despite all his amoral loyalty to the Empire and his, as he puts it, "pointless but amusing indulgences" in cruelty, he has a single soft spot: he takes pity on the lost and the discarded, as he was exiled for his clan years ago for his parents 'dishonoring' his tribe by birthing someone 'impure', as he was both considered weak and had the displeasure of being born with unexplainable powers that the Vesk of his tribe took a dim view on. He reconciles his loyalty to the Empire and his empathy for the lost with the belief that the Empire will unite all races and creeds into one glorious society, a society of progress and innovation rather than the backwards profligacy that suffuses the galaxy at this point in time. He wholeheartedly believes that his masters will bring about a golden age and is willing to sacrifice nearly anything to see that goal come about.

My character's plan on subverting the Pact Worlds would likely consist of breaking their spirits through "betrayals" (that he helps orchestrate) and war. When the conflict has spent the strength of those in the system and left them fearful of their neighbors both on-world and off, who then will they turn to but an Empire that offers stability and peace? Those weary of the horrors of war and the fear of not knowing what tomorrow brings would gladly trade freedom for security, especially if a sacrificial lamb could be found among the Pact Worlds to blame for the entire conflict, i.e. whoever was winning, that is summarily crushed by the 'rescuers'.

As for his build, I will need to figure that out. Various facets of Mystic, particularly the Empath or Mindbreaker Connections, appeal to me and could represent his rather unique talents in many ways. I will get back to you on the specifics once I have decided on which fits him best. I plan on having him fight in heavy armor and use a massive melee weapon to contrast his personality with his fighting style. No worries, I could make it work regardless of the class given how the system is. He would meld melee combat with trickery and downright underhanded tactics. Do note, however, that even though he will have mind-controlling spells, those will primarily be used in combat. He much prefers more 'natural' ways of influncing his targets, such as blackmail, bribery, and playing on the weak parts of a target's psyche rather than simply forcing his mind on someone else, as he views it as much better sport.

I would like to, in terms of character development, have him acquire some shunned person from the Pact Worlds that he would take in and later build as a protege, both for his own personal reasons and to ensure that, should the worst come to pass, he would have someone to carry on his work for the glory of the Empire. The person could be anything from a Lashunta urchin street-thief from the back alleys on Verces, to a Human prostitute from Absalom Station, to a dishonored and exiled Kasath warrior from their great world ship. In the end, what matters is the bond built between those looked down on by their people and the student-mentor bond that results. I do not ask this to be a romantic bond, of course, but it matters little if it turns into one.

So, all that being said, would this be a character that you would like to see in your game? It is nowhere near fleshed out, but this should serve to give you an idea on how I plan on building him in terms of both in-game fluff and out-of-game crunch. I will try to keep future posts to something much more readily accessible, I was just excited about this game and decided to explore several parts of my character to get your permission to build the character for your game.

This looks interesting. I'll look over the rulebook later and think of something. Maybe an operative, it seems like this is going to be a kind of infiltration-heavy campaign?

Sounds good King Faleyros, looks like you have already wrote most of the back story.

Yes Alexgndl, this game will have some heavy infiltration themes because it could get bad fast should you be discovered as Azlanti agents, but a couple of good Envoy's and Operatives could probably help out a less infiltration minded party member.

I've got an idea I've fleshing out now for an Android Bounty Hunter Operative (Spy). He's happy to work in the system to benefit himself and will happily back stab the seditious elements he is being "friendly" with.

I had an idea for a exiled and betrayed Kasatha Solarion from the pact worlds, who joined the star empire. He could fit quite well as your protegee King Faleryos. The Idea of the character is that he is a young student of a wise old Solarion, teaching him the ways of the stars. However, while he learned quickly and was quite strong, he lost control of his power on occasion. On one such occasion, while learning the revelation Supernova, when he tried to use it, he couldn't control it and killed his mentor. For this, one of his arms was cut off and he was exiled from the ship, launched out in an escape pod into the cold darkness of space. Just as he was about to run out of oxygen, a Cargo transport found his pod and picked him up. They took him along with them to the Star Empire, where he joined. The reason he wants to join this misson is at least partially because he was never very fond of many of the pact worlds, viewing the humans especially as honorless.

It can be the shape of the cat, but lets keep to the drone mechanics in the book.

That could work. Do you plan on getting a prosthetic limb to replace the one lost?

Depends, he may try to do that at some point. He may not simply as a reminder for a while, or maybe there is some reason he cannot get a prosthetic.

Dot. Would love this. A few questions if I may.

What kind of detail are you looking for on backgrounds?

What's your expected posting schedule for players? (Some people refer to 1/day as "fast" but to me it seems normal.)

How optimized do you expect the characters to be? But another way, how much a balance between combat and role-play do you see?

Thanks!

Background is going to be important due to the nature of this campaign. You have to have a well developed sense of what you want to accomplish.

Once a day to post. In combat I try to post more so long as my players keep up.

Its good to know your role, but also role-play. Put another way you will be expected to be competent in your position, but for me a compelling story will trump dice rolls where appropriate while maintaining a sense of constant danger. Dialogue between players and NPCs will be regular and meaningful.

I will set to working on the character soon, Starfinder GM! I only have a few obligations to fulfill on Final Fantasy 14 tonight for my Free Company, so I should be able to begin around midnight.

He became a scholar in a great many subjects. His favorite by far was mechanics, probably due to the companions he would create in his solitude.

Finally he got his opportunity to shine. His excellence was noticed and his name was put in for a special mission to the Pact Worlds. The redundancies of this mission, the sheer improbability expected of his success did not sway him.

I will show them that I am an Azlanti! My brilliance will not go unnoticed!

Threko Kip always used to prefer the easy road. Flitting from score to score, he disliked being tied down to any one affiliation or another. This ended when one of his cons went gravity up and he was forced to make a choice: work for the Black Satin or learn how to breath vacuum.

Working for the Black Satin was dangerous, but much easier than breathing without atmo. So, Threko ended up the "lucky" pilot for the Forever Forward. a Black Satin raiding ship.

After a few years of threading the needle of void death, the FF's captain finally pushed one boundary too many. Even the effusive Black Satin had no concept of the perils awaiting in Azlanti Space. The ship was captured, and most of its crew executed, but Treko called upon his almost atrophied silver tongue and managed to once again keep the cold embrace of Pharasma at bay.

These days, he wished he hadn't been so quick to talk his way out of such a merciful end. After years of "conditioning", he has been turned into a proper servant for the Azlanti Empire. Threko Kip is the perfect spy- an empty, broken vessel who will become whoever and whatever he must to please his superiors and prove his worthiness to be spared one more day.

Only one potential problem. What's the expected posting frequency? I'm in classes M-F for about 6 hours each.

Oh man, no, you just...you have no idea. I've used this character as a Looming Evil in so many games and backstories, his whole mythos is about being Evil and making people die just using his voice and other non-direct methods.

It's just a great conjuction of an opportunity. Kismet, if you would. =)

That reminds me that I will be giving you all access to a Mnemonic Editor allowing you to retrain a few levels as needed. Mechanically this is because the game is still new and people are going to want to experiment, story wise because different jobs will require different skills and the Azlanti want you to succeed.

Looks decent, you have +1 next to Piloting with (theme) written. Did you take Ace Pilot or Azlanti Royalty?

Ach! Still cleaning up from the template I shamelessly stole borrowed this from. It's fixed now. =)

Speaking of which, even though it doesn't say it, I assume that if we have a class that already has Intimidate as a class skill, that we get +1 to it, yeah? It seems like every other theme is doing that.

Introducing Ashmerain, overlord mystic, dominator of minds, and priest of Lisalla!

Stats:

https://drive.google.com/open?id=0B2kUP3npyFRbLUUyZ0k4UTdlSzg

Background:

Ashmerain was born in New Thespera, the shining jewel of the Azlanti Star Empire. He was the second son in his family and as such destined for the priesthood of Lisalla. He took that responsibility with honour and pride, as all Azlanti should. After finishing his training, he took to the Lisallan virtue of pride, and with it training in the art of controlling the minds of weaker-willed individuals. His intense faith in the Lisalla and his talent for intimidation and mental manipulation allowed him rise easily in the ranks. Due to his skillset, he was selected to be a member of a Pact World Subjugation team.

Appearance and Personality:

In the company of fellow Azlanti, he wears the deep green and gold robes of a Lisallan pride priest, along with a Sihedron amulet. However, in most situations he wears fairly commmon clothes, often a bit above average in quality, along with a suit of second skin armor. A laser pistol hangs at one hip, and a common survival knife hangs at the other, along with various equipment in a backpack. As a pure-blooded Azlanti, his violet eyes are clear indicators of his Azlanti heritage, along with his widow's peak and strong nose.

Ashmerain is, like many Azlanti, haughty and sure of his superiority. His fervour for the good of the Azlanti Star Empire is only outlclassed by his devotion to Lisalla and the power she brings him. Believing wholeheartedly in the rewards she can bring him, he does what she wills. In the company of other Azlanti or their servitors, he is refined and polite as it can reap the greatest rewards. However, he can be absolutely terrifying when he needs to be, able to turn a vesk warrior into a blubbering wreck. Despite his penchant for cruelty and fear, he has an incredible soft spot for cats. He isn't the most effective when it comes to scaring members of his team, as it's hard to be scared of a man once you've seen him set up a commlink to his cats and coo at them for a while.

Thanks Simeon, I will look over this later when I get a chance. Still going to look over the drone too Saasha

The drone and Simeon look good. It looks like all that submitted a character will have a place. I will keep recruitment up until this evening and I will begin setting up discussion and the game.

I made this character for another game which had fallen through. It uses a custom race which is based heavily on one of the ones from First Contact, which even so may veto it, but I figured I'd throw my hat into the ring for consideration just in case. Here

Well I hope those that responded are interested in playing. I will post discussion up soon. Please post with your final submissions and then we will go about making a space craft to infiltrate the pact worlds yet.

Backstory below.

From the files of Doctor Matorno:
The subject proved to be extremely susceptible to the indoctrination protocols. This was to be expected - the species as a whole has a primitive fixation on tradition. We suspected this was a genetic proclivity, and the subject’s acceptance of Azlanti ideals as fact adds support to the hypothesis. From a purely ideological standpoint, the subject is a model Azlanti Empire citizen - compliant and docile, unquestioning in its’ acceptance of its own inferiority as a species.

Dense musculature makes this creature strong and fast. Combined with the training that the Empire approved for the subject, these traits make him an excellent combatant in both close quarters and in firefights. The subject favors melee weaponry, a relic of its’ species. The subject was given basic pilot training as well, in order to make it less of a burden during starship combat. It will attempt to wear it’s armor during flights, seeking a sense of security - do not tolerate such absurdities, as it will do so to the detriment of its piloting abilities. The subject tends to wear its armor constantly unless forced to remove it.

Psychologically, the specimen serves as a blank slate. It defaults to violent responses even when a more nuanced approach would suffice, and is unrelenting against another combatant once combat has been initiated. Thankfully, the indoctrination protocols make it extraordinarily compliant to orders given from those it perceives as ‘worthy,’ typically ranked in order of intelligence (a side effect of so much time among the science division, we believe). It has only spoken on a few occasions during its lifespan, something we attribute to the solitary clinical confinement protocols of the home base - to facilitate communication, a custom speech module was implanted on the creature’s armor to allow simple statements to be made.

It is my pleasure to pass the subject along for the evaluation and use by the Imperator. Long live the Empire.

I'd say head on over to the discussion thread. We could definitely use a bit more damage.

Ill look over it this weekend when I get a chance

Here's my kasatha soldier application, if it's still open - hoping to have him serve the Empire!

Backstory below.

I like the idea it might work. There might be some instances where not having much of your own personality might be a hindrance, but we will see.

Do you still have room for a character? Because I have noted that you are doing an infiltration game with only a talker to get you thru the sneaky stuff.

No more recruitment sorry.
