You don't need to withdraw currently because no one is next to you. Get out of Dodge. Also, E, you are next to the wrong lever, but I think the intent makes sense.

You're up in Round 5. The zombies have acted and nothing is threatening you at the moment. You can use a move action to grab your dagger, then another move action to go through the gate. I'll move Elannaris to put her by the correct lever.

Encumbrance, GM, encumbrance. Garidan is at 20 ft./round, so it's one move to "grabby the stabby," one to get to the gate, and one more to move through.

As Truk'tosh turns a second zombie into so much ruined meat with a single blow, a spray of wet chunks just missing him, Garidan struggles to ignore the stream of admiring--and uncomfortably racy--words coming from the stone overhead. For the most part, he's successful, though the few words that do make it through his focus have his face flushed and warm from embarrassment. Instead, he concentrates firmly on his retreat to safety.

Move action to recover his dagger, and then a second move action to move four squares straight back.
Finding himself momentarily free of threats, Garidan crouches, yanks his dagger out the dead flesh currently holding it, then straightens up and quickly falls back to the gate. The loaded pack slows him by a measurable amount, and he'd rather not have everyone waiting on him to get going before starting their own retreats to safety. As he reaches the bars flanking the gate, he calls to Gruskorb and Truk'tosh, "I'm clear!"

Full-round action to withdraw! Moving one square diagonally up-left (into Truk'tosh's square), then two squares diagonally up-right.

Garidan is momentarily distracted by checking the area behind the gate to ensure that his own line of rereat is clear, and as a consequence his defensive measures aren't quite as firm as usual. This mistake costs him dearly as two zombies suddenly rush his position and flail him with their limbs. He adroitly avoids one such strike, but takes another full on in doing so.

Staggering back against the bars as his sister's worried voice fills his mind, he manages to stay on his feet, and even retain his weapons through the haze of pain that tries to overwhelm him. With a grunt, he slips to the side, through the gate--barely dodging Truk'tosh as he does so--and wobbles into a short alcove blocked by a door at the far end. There, he slumps against the wall with a pained groan and takes a few moments to recover. The ioun torch overhead slides down to the level of his shoulder, its light illuminating his injury, almost as though it were inspecting it.

"Gari! Are you okay? How bad is it? Say something!"

"'M alright, 'Ruza," he says softly, voice thick with pain "Jus' a lil' wobbly. A bit of healin', and 's good again."

Okay, how many hp did Garidan just get hammered for, so I can modify the stat bar appropriately? And figures, the one time I don't have OPaR up is the time I get hit...

Garidan backs up from the zombies and through the gate. Truk'tosh closes the iron gate just as Elannaris pulls the lever. With a grinding sound the stteel bars extend from the ceiling and floor to lock the gate in place. The zombies slam against the gate and the metal bars separating them from the group. The noice continues to draw more zombies from the bridge above.

Truk'tosh and Gruskorb back away from the gate as the xombies attempt to break it down.

Garidan took 5hp damage.

Garidan shakes his head slightly in response to Truk'tosh's words. "Perhaps I should watch instead. The entire time, he attention is fixed firmly on the gate, watching and listening for any sign of impending failure.

The door on this level leads to a small barracks and supply room. A quick search reveals another 10 days of iron rations, 2 bedrolls on wooden cots and a travelling cloak made of wolf fur.

Outside the zombies continue to pile up putting more pressure on the gate but it holds firm.

The fear of the hunted is perfume to the hunters.

The thought-speech was very unsettling to Gruskorb, but their party's safe retreat behind the for-now-impassable gates relieved some of it.

He did his part to search the former barracks for supplies. Bedrolls would be useful. His prior status had him accustomed to hard ground, so they would be a treat.

You overlook the fur; it is from a beast made as a master of this land. It will keep you warm and have you blend it. You have not the muscle the orc-man does to protect yourself. Take it.

Why do you care about me now?

Silence.

The guidance with questionable motive was disturbing to the Aegean. When they had a chance again, he would need to speak with Niyut at greater length about this spirit. Or maybe the elf - he seems to know a thing or two about magic. For the less-versed thief, the realms of spirits and magic were of the same cloth. It couldn't hurt to pet him the right way then. It was also no small part of his calculus the action would spite the spirit within him.

His hands felt the fur in grasping the cloak, and he immediately felt more secure. Yet he moved over to Malthazir. "You'll need to keep warm for that wound to heal quicker; this should help."

He wasn't presumptuous enough to put the cloak on for the man, instead holding it out. Elves are a proud sort.

Niyut finds that the wide ramp leading up does a single revolution around the guard tower then ends at another large gate. This gate leads to a low road that follows the contour of the lake bed in either direction. From the worn grooves in the cobble stone road, you would think that this was a delivery or servants road as opposed to the main road above that leads to the formal bridge to the tower. There is a steel reinforced side door leading out of the guard tower and onto the service road. This normal sized door is locked. She also finds a side passage that leads to a small spiral staircase leading up to the main gate house upon the bridge.

Gruskorb finds nothing more in the barracks.

Assuming Niyut returns before we all perish:

The grooves meant traffic. So this wasn't a crazed hermit stuck away in a corner of the world. With that strong door, he is picky about his visitors though. Yet he took us.

The hobgoblin didn't know how to feel about being "special" in that manner. He didn't mind getting additional insight into the wizard of the place though.

Looking back a couple of pages, I see that I failed to adequately describe the zombies trapped beyond the gate. They all wore armor, which was visible, and several had sheathed weapons on them. They each wore tunics with the same emblem that was found throughout the tower.

I'm going to assume Niyut shared her findings after her scouting trip.

As Garidan grips the handles of the travois, leaving Truk'tosh free to fight if needed, he frowns thoughtfully and ask of Niyut, "Before we take that service road, would you be willing to check further up the stairs? Not only should there be another guard room up there, but given that the upper bridge is the primary route to the Tower, the guard room on that level should be larger as well."

Maneuvering the travois up the stairs, he continues, explaining the reasoning behind his request. "There may be some supplies we can use there, but I'm also thinking it may be a secure place to take shelter for a time. I know it is early yet in our journey to be seeking rest, but I think we should traverse those ruins without stopping for anything more than opportunistic looting."

The moment the area below is clear, Garidan looks at Niyut and Malathzir and nods his head back in the direction of the lever controlling the second gate. "And if one of you could use your magic to close that behind us, we won't have to worry about those corpses out there dragging up the stairs behind us, whether we rest here or not."

The larger gate doesn't appear locked. It is similar to the gates you have gone through with a lever to raise or lower it. Only the side door is locked. This passage is 10' wide allowing delivery carts to access the Underbridge.

The party makes their way up the ramp to the main gate leading to the service road. Gruskorb inspects the side door and within a couple of minutes is able to easily open the lock.

Not at this level, although you left the 4 guard zombies unspoiled down below .

I might have missed that. Were they in the lower level of the tower?

Yep, the ones at the gate that Niyut and Malthazir took apart. Garidan noticed them, but wasn't up for looting between his injury and keeping a close watch on what was on the other side of that gate.

After taking a quick glance in, Gruskorb turned back.

"Looks like another way out. If it's locked, I think there'd be less of the dead here. Let's go for it."

The statement wasn't an order, but rather a deference; he waited for a consensus before pressing ahead.

For the record, I dig your hand drawn maps Valjoen.

Not liking the press of undead flesh against the gate, Truk'tosh nods in agreement. "Let's move on. It's not worth delaying here any longer."

"Hum... would it not be wise if we take a look at this stairwell up? Perhaps we would be able to see farther and make sure the route we choose is not leading us into a dead alley..." The elf shrugged. "A couple more minutes to get this information could pay in the long run..."

There was no zombies blocking the way up, right?

Correct.

"That makes sense as long as the way is clear. Sister, did you want me to come with you just in case?"

The stairwell leads up to a small guard room on the bridge level. A locked, reinforced door leads to the bridge. Several small archer slits lookout upon the bridge in all directions. You can see a few undead shambling toward the tower. The stairwell continues higher to another level.

GM Screen:
Elannaris: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (19) + 8 = 27
Truk'tosh: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (5) + 7 = 12

As Truk'tosh is fixated on the zombies upon the bridge, Elannaris notices a small stone in the wall that seems to protrude a little farther than the rest of the stones.

Heart pounding, Malthazir looks back at the grouping zombies and starts catching his breath. His eye pounds painfully and he looks around. This is madness. "Yes, yes. Let's scout ahead, but make it quick. I don't want to see where else these creatures are going to come from."

The small stone quickly catches Elannaris' attention and she studies it while addressing Truk'tosh, making sure she wasn't about to press it and trigger a trap. Strange... I'm normally curious in would probably have already pressed it but why am I being so careful... it is almost as if I had already had bad experiences about randomly pressing stones...

"Hey, Truk, I found a weird stone here... I bet it is a trigger to a secret door of some sort... I'm thinking abo..." Elannaris presses it. She won't press it if her checks reveals this is bad of course...

The protruding stone looks to be a release switch. Pressing the stone firmly, Elannaris sees a small panel above the stone slide to the right. Opening the panel she finds a small wooden case containing a hand crossbow, 4 bolts made of bone, a vial with a red liquid, and two other vials with a clear liquid.
