Noting the weakness left with Garidan and Verthag after the dream’s attack, Truk’tosh pauses. ”We must be swifter.”

He begins to work a spell, calling on the ailing spirits of the First Lands for aid. It begins with kindling and the flash of sparks. ”Spirits of summer flame; raging; all-cleansing; send us a servant swift and sure.”

Always quick to answer the druid’s call, the elements respond. In a flash the kindling bursts into flames that grow larger and larger until they threaten to engulf Truk’tosh. The inferno dies down as quickly as it sprang to life, shrinking away until all that remains is the shape of a powerfully built horse. The fiery steed snorts a cloud of ash and paws at the earth with hooves of solid smoke. It looks across the assembled mortals before nodding in deference to Truk’tosh.

”Garidan, climb onto the spirit’s back. Its flames will not burn your flesh. Well, they should not burn your flesh…”

Casting flame steed. That should speed the party up.

Flame steed has a 10 minute cast time. =(

Malz can get everybody fully healed but then I'm out of healing for the day.

The ooze runs rampant, viciously sucking away blood and closing wounds in an almost painful manner. Malz takes it away and stores it, wrapping it twice before tucking it out of sight.

Remember that each cast healing from the Devil Ooze takes 1 minute to work. It is 1 hp per round. Garidan can get full with 1 CMW potion and 1 Infernal Healing. Verthag will take 1 hit of Infernal Healing, the other CMW potion and another CMW potion he carried to get him within 10 HP of full. WIth a second hit of Infernal Healing, he'll be full before you get to Niyut. So, Malthazir please mark another 3 casts of healing from the Devil Ooze. How many are left today?

@All - What is your plan to travel to Niyut? You've burned 1 minute since the end of the battle getting healed.

@Garidan - Tacal is with Raektov and Gruskorb hiding, although you could travel back to them.

@Mal - How long does your Haste last?

The healing from the devil ooze can roll in parallel while we march. Two minutes of travel would heal both Garidan and Verthag for 20 HP depending on how many charges Malz has left. @Garidan: Chug those cure mod potions Niyut mentioned. @GM: Truk'tosh will offer the cure serious potion to Verthag.

Only takes a standard to cast and then it lasts a minute, I don't have to concentrate on it the entire time. Although thematically that may be weird...perhaps the devil ooze splits physically?

I had 5 left before any healing started.

Bright Tower Maps | Last Haven Table #1 Maps | Last Haven Table #2 Maps

I think we're good. You still have the Cure Serious Potion. Verthag had one of his own and is now ticking up the last 10 HP from Mal's heal. That will get everyone to full health 1 minute into the march towards Niyut. Mal will have 2 heals left today.

As I mentioned earlier, the group is currently 1620' from the Gathering Stones and 1580' from Niyut's hidden spot. It'll take 2 minutes to get to her by running or 3 minutes by walking, 6 minutes moving stealty.Verthag and Garidan are fatigued, but Verthag is flying though. So, he could make the trip in the 2 minutes. How are you getting Garidan there? Since he is fatigued, he cannot run. At 30'x2 per round it will take him 3 minutes to walk or 6 to move stealthy. Let me know the plan and I can make some posts for Niyut while you are in route.

Having managed to bind their wounds as best as possible, Malthazir casts flight upon himself and Garidan. The pair along with Verthag fly through the forest following Truk'tosh as the druid scrambles through the under growth towards his sister.

Niyut kept her attention on the Soulbleed as the creature utters dark phrases in a chant of destruction. The oracle knew the Dreaming is her target, but only now realizes that her intent is its destruction and her consumption of all souls who reside in the demi-plane. It is the Rites of Somnium Praevaricationem, and with its conclusion the negative energy of the leyline of death with recoil into the Soulbleed.

A noise from behind catches Niyut's attention. She looks over her shoulder. At the edge of her darkvision, she sees her brother approaching and the others flying high above him. At that moment, she heard the dreaded words she she knew were coming.

Turning back to the ritual, Niyut sees the Dream Stone begin to glow brightly as it draws energy from the Gathering Stone. Another death is imminent, the oracle thinks. It will happen before her brother arrives. Darkness gathers atop the stone...

Niyut cannot wait. Another life hangs in the a balance. A life sacrificed towards an end which she opposes with every fiber of her being.

"Spirits above and spirits below: heed me. Spirits in the land and spirits in the Dreaming grant me your strength to stand against those who would destroy our home and our legacy. Any willing spirit: empower me."

She invokes aid from any quarter as she reaches and a thins reality beneath the southern most orc aiding in the casting of the ritual. What is once solid ground becomes a temporary hole into the plane of shadows. Standard Action: Shadow Conjuration: Spiked Pit. The orc must make a Reflex save of 26 or fall into the hole. The drop is 40 ft. The spikes at the bottom do 2d6+2. The climb DC out is 20. Attempting to climb will deal 1d6+1 points of damage. The person also gets a Will Save of 26, if they succeed they only take 20% of the damage they would normally. It is Niyut's belief (and also mine) that breaking the line of effect between a secondary caster and the primary caster will halt the ritual and prevent the next sacrifice.

After her incantation is complete, she moves through the shadows that divide the world of flesh from the worlds of spirits to a new hiding spot. She does not want to leave a chance that her previous spot was compromised by her spell work. Swift Action: Dimension Door.

Niyut connects the the mystery of shadows drawing forth their energies to create a deep pit underneath the southern most orc. The creature stumbles and falls into the pit. Niyut moves across the forest in a flash. Looking back towards the ceremony, she sees that the orcs all glow the soft violet color of death. The look about for the hidden attacker.

The Soulbleed seems unfazed by the attack and chants louder, calling out the name Paagyt. The dark shadows crawl down from the Gathering stone over the fallen marker to the southeast and settles upon the figure lying prone. The shroud enveloping the humanoid absorbs the darkness and fades, revealing a female hobgoblin bound hand and foot. Suddenly, her eyes open and she lets out a wail piercing the night. She writhes in pain as her form slowly fades from sight. The toppled stone quivers and stands back erect. A shimmering essence of the hobgoblin arises from the earth and rushes towards Li'luraant, further empowering her. She cackles and continues to murmur deep, dark words.

There is a weaver of illusions here!" she shouts to the others. Li'luurant glances over her shoulder at the orc and snarl crosses her face.

The dark green skinned orc wielding the two axes steps forward, looking through the forest to see his enemy, yet nothing reveals itself to him. The orc with the light blue eyes of grumbles low as he calls upon the ether and grows to a height of two men.

Deep in the pit, the orc rises to his feet and tries in vain to scale the walls. Close by, the orc with the deep blue cloak over his shoulders moves towards the pit shouting, "Urul is trapped! Another witch is here as well!" A shadowy reflection of the orc rises from the ground mirroring his every movement. Another orc covered in deep purple wode howls loudly and steps back to guard his mistress.

Li'luurant continues to chant with a fervor. His voice grows louder and quicker as the ritual begins to gain a momentum and come to life as a dark and vile dream.

Weary from the lingering effects of the dream-thing's attacks, Garidan carefully drifts closer to the mass of enemies surrounding the ritual site, angling to approach the pit and the orc with the shadowy mimic. Once he draws near enough, the swashbuckler takes aim and whips his rapier toward the cloaked orc with a backhand motion that sends a shard of bone racing toward the (hopefully) unaware target. Unfortunately, Garidan didn't manage to keep track of which orc was the real one and which the false one during his approach, so he can only hope that his first attack strikes true.

Ranged Attack (Bone Shard): 1d20 + 18 + 1 - 1 - 2 ⇒ (12) + 18 + 1 - 1 - 2 = 28
Rapier Damage: 1d8 + 9 + 1 + 7 - 1 ⇒ (6) + 9 + 1 + 7 - 1 = 22

Move action to move 40 feet (speed reduced because of Garidan's encumbrance), then a standard action to attack with bone shards from two range increments using Point-Blank Shot and passive Precise Strike.

Effects: Protection from Evil (+2 deflection to AC, +2 resistsance to saves); -2 Wis, Fatigued (-2 Str and Dex, medium encumbrance [-3 ACP, 20 foot speed]). Weapon Cord (left): Yes.

A move & another move via surge would get you to where the others are located.

The shards of Garidan's foil lacerate the orc ripping its flesh from bone. It grimaces in pain before fading into nothing. The real orc, now staring at Garidan, laughs loudly brandishing its massive axe, "Fool." He runs his hand along the blade's edge, drawing a stream of his own blood as he prepares to attack.

Niyut's frustration grows as the orc woman sees through her illusion. More direct action is required. With a flicker of thought a wall of "darkness" that no sight can penetrate ghosts into being. Swift Action: Silent Image

With a mental command, Niyut's shadow dragon drops from the sky and attempts to drag the captive on the northern most stone into the forest away from the ritual. A ritual without sacrifices is not much of a ritual.

The Niyut does somewthing she has been afraid to do since she was defeated by the Ice Giant cunning-man. She attempt to dip into the ley-line of death and contest the hag's mastery over this ancient line of power.

Alright. In that case a double move plus a speed surge move should get me to where Garidan is.

Truk'tosh charges into the fray, largely by his own power but aided by the drake's stolen essence.

Arriving at the site of the ritual, he initially surveys it for his twin but the nightblood howls and the mounting tension quickly starts his heart pounding. He's reminded of what brought them here: This was not just a battle for survival. The ones responsible for his mother's death was among those gathered for this ritual. A rage quickly takes hold of the Firdbird warrior and he starts his axe spinning. "Which of you is eager to die first?" he growls.

The pseudodragon takes hold of the shrouded body and begins to fly away, but a sudden jolt stops its movement. It looks down to see a portion of the humanoid revealed. It's hands and feet are bound to the toppled stone with iron shackles. It looks back towards its master and then the hag.

Manacles - DC26 Strength to break. 10 hardness, 10 hps.

Niyut:
"There are others present that cannot be seen, but I sense them... near the hag," the pseudodragon speaks to Niyut's mind.

Malthazir wastes no time. Silver tendrils streak out from the elf and wrestle with an unseen force around the Gathering Stone. Suddenly, the silver fades to an ebony and bursts with energy. Li'lurannt shrieks and turns her gaze upon the wizard. "Kill the elf-man!"

Verthag spies the hulking orc to southeast of the Gathering Stone. "I'll take out, Dubok," he mutters. Sclicing his falchion through the air, Verthag cuts open the fabric of space and time, revealing the darkness of the Ether. Stepping through the doorway, he reemerges next to the orc, studying him carefully.

The orc nearest Niyut steps out of the illusion, looking around. Spying Verthag he races towards his kinsman. Dubok, the enlarged orc roars with rage and circles Verthag. He brings his massive flachion down twice at Verthag, slicing through his defenses.

Deep in the pit, the orc fails to climb from the pit.

"I'll take a piece of this one," the orc says in response to Truk'tosh. He rushes forward and swings his greataxe. The weapon rips through Truk'tosh opening a gaping wound in his chest. 67 Damage! Oh crap! Glad you two stepped up and made it tough to charge Mal, or he'd be down with that attack.

Another orc emerges from the illusion and sees the skirmish to the south. He races down and steps up to Garidan. The last orc steps from the dark illusion and surveys the area before stepping closer to Li'luraant muttering something softly to the hag.

Li'luraant stretches out her consciousness retaking control of the leyline and recommences the know more difficult ritual.

The rules don't talk about re-connecting to leylines after a dispell. Since wrestling it away and taking control is a standard action, I think it makes sense that re-establishing it is a standard action. I'm going to consider it her full turn. So, the ritual was delayed 1 full round and now has a +2 to the DC.

The rules do say that it requires hours long ritual, I think. "A creature capable of casting spells or using spell-like abilities can attempt to tap into an accessible segment of a ley line within 100 feet. Doing so takes 1 hour per 2 caster levels of the ley line and requires a Spellcraft check with a DC equal to 20 + the ley line’s caster level. Success indicates the creature is attuned to the ley line and gains a +1 bonus to its effective caster level for all spells and spell-like abilities. "//"Once a creature is attuned to a ley line, the bond is permanent unless dispelled. Dispel magic and similar effects can break a creature’s attunement to a ley line; the caster attempting to break the attunement must succeed at a caster level check with a DC equal to 11 + the caster level of the ley line." In this case it is far quicker to break a connection than to establish one. Score one for entropy.

Bright Tower Maps | Last Haven Table #1 Maps | Last Haven Table #2 Maps

I'm aware of that rule. It is for first establishing the connection. But with an established connection, another caster can take it away with a single standard action by winning the opposed CL check. So, if Niyut could have gotten a connection in one action and not have to spend 8 hours "attunning" to the leyline, I think it is reasonable to rule that a connection broken by dispell would only require a short time to re-establish. In this case, I made it full round action and didn't allow her to do anything else. If she had been separated from it for 2 rounds, I may have required 2 full rounds for her to reconnect, etc. Also, I made the DC higher now. All in all, it was a good action for Malthazir. He delayed the ritual for a round and made it more difficult. She has 2 failures already. So, the actual success of the ritual, even without your involvement, is very much in doubt.

Ouch. Truk'tosh will split that hit with Nethuns via their ongoing shield other effect.

Truk'tosh reels from the blow but quickly finds his feet again. ”You’ll get a lot more than a piece”, he growls as he studies opponent for weaknesses briefly.

Knowing he cannot overpower the nightblood, he calls on the elements and Mylesar for aid. One swift gesture, calls up the lingering essence of the slain frost giant to hardens his bloodied flesh. A second grants him a touch of divine battle-insight.

Garidan considers the cloaked orc briefly before turning his gaze to the one in the purple bodypaint. "I'm the fool, really," he asks thoughtfully as he hovers in mid-air. "The world is literally broken, and we've got giants, gnolls, and undead that I know of fighting for control of the pieces that are left. And here you are, helping this delusional hag with her plans, which anyone with a half a brain knows won't be to the benefit of anyone but herself. But I'm the fool for showing up to oppose this?" The swashbuckler spits dismissively and shakes his head.

"You know, I think the world, and your clan in particular, would be better served if you didn't leave this place alive. Hopefully, I or one of my companions will have ended your life before you could breed and pass on your bonedeep stupidity to another generation." With that, the tired swashbuckler attacks with another barrage of bone shards--the first accompanied by the bowel-loosening growl of a white wolf--these also aimed at the cloaked orc who, now lacking the protection of his illusory double, should be wide open for a proper attack. As the shards break away from his slashing blade, Garidan eyes the closer of the two orcs and carefully drifts just a little higher into the darkened sky.

Taking a full-round action to make a full attack with bone shards from two range increments using Point-Blank Shot and passive Precise Strike. Then a 5-foot step to increase altitude by 5 feet. And, as a swift action if Garidan's first attack is successful, using Menacing Swordplay to get an Intimidate check to demoralize (save DC is 10 + orc's HD + Wis modifier) the cloaked orc as well. If the Intimidate check is successful, cloaked orc is shaken for 1 round, and 1 additional round for every 5 by which the check succeed; if the check succeeds by 10 or more, the orc is instead frightened for 1 round and shaken thereafter (a DC 19 check will negate frightened, but the orc will still be shaken for the duration). Finally, the demoralized orc will suffer the effects of Shatter Defenses, becoming flat-foot to Garidan's attack until the end of Garidan's next turn (including attacks after the first this round).
