Urist McFatson |
Hey, just double checking. Folks are fine if I use 900 gold worth of our collective gold to make the All-Tools Vest, right?
Gotta head to work, but I'll throw together a downtime post tonight.
Goggeck Ghack |
It gets my vote.
GM_Armok |
I assume Boomer will want to do some crafting as well. But, there’s plenty of spare change left.
GM_Armok |
Just so you know, there was 2,015gp in cash money wealth. Minus the 900gp Urist just spent, the total available coin is now 1,115gp. Again, I expect Boomer will want to spend some of that on crafting alchemical goodies and/or potions.
I'll move things along shortly and Boomer can catch up with us when he is able.
Glor Stonebeard |
I wanted to give an update that I'll be at Dragon Con this weekend and will not be able to post much if at all. And this weekend starts Wednesday for me. :) I'll be back and on a regular schedule Tuesday.
Boomer Bellowpiper |
Hi folks. You might have noticed I've been absent for a while. My apologies. I'm dealing with a bunch of overlapping life changes that have left me wiped out during my small amount of free time.
I can't reliably post right now, and I'm not sure when that will change, so I'm reluctantly dropping out of this game.
I've really enjoyed the character interactions. If I can sort out real life I'll come back and beg to rejoin.
Maybe Boomer can join the settlers and become a potion-brewing shop for the party?
GM_Armok |
Bummer.
Thanks for checking in with us and letting us know what's going on, and thanks for being a part of the game! I think Boomer has been a great asset to the party so far.
You are always welcome back to the game anytime.
In the mean time I'll bot Boomer for the remainder of this dungeon and hit up the recruitment thread for a replacement player.
Goggeck Ghack |
That's unfortunate, Boomer. Hopefully things will go well for you.
Brunhild Liefdottir |
Checking in!
It is a pleasure to join the group. I am in the process of finishing the crunch, but the party will be getting an Occultist Archer to join them.
Right now what she can basically do is shoot well (+9 Hit, 4d6+4 damage...takes a standard action for buffs though), and can identify magic items. Her spells won’t become more useful until about level 5, unfortunately.
Also...if I could get a quick recap of where we are that would be useful.
GM_Armok |
The Adventure so Far:
Our heroes were commissioned by King Dal Dberryl of Taggoret to reclaim and settle Droskar's Crag in the name of dwarvenkind. The expedition is secretly looking for The Axe of Dwarvish Lords, which the King believes is hidden under the Crag. The first leg of the journey required our expedition to traverse the long abandoned Old Quarry Road and reach the sealed Theocrats' Vault. Our heroes have cleared the upper levels of the Vault of vermin and undead and have opened Ordrick's Tomb, where they are currently. A caravan of migrants await outside for them to finish securing the Vault and ridding the place of evil so they can settle in.
Once our heroes finish this task, they have options. The Theocrat's Vault is in hex B2 at the top of the map. The main goal, Droskar's Crag, is the mountain occupying the J hexes in the map center. The expedition can travel south to go directly to Droskar's Crag, but they also have been asked to clear out the orcs occupying the Broken Tower at C6 to open up a direct trade route with Taggoret. Also they are free to explore hexes as they wish. Plenty of sub-plots and sub-adventures to be had!
So, sit tight for now, Brunhild, while we finish up this leg of the campaign, and I'll let you know when to jump into gameplay. Welcome!
GM_Armok |
Also, I'm going camping up in Colorado this weekend, exploring ancient cliffside ruins, etc. I'll be back late monday.
Until then, Urist and Helga are up!
Brunhild Liefdottir |
Thanks for the summary! Look forward to joining.
Also I’m flexible on editing the character to better suit the party. So if melee is needed more than ranged I can make the switch.
GM_Armok |
Boomer was mostly ranged with his bombs, so I think you'll be a nice fit. Plenty of frontliners in this party. I'll read over your character sheet just to make sure everything's kosher.
Brunhild Liefdottir |
Great! And because occultists are not common, I’ll show the even less common things I’m working with.
(1) Panolpy: Occultists get implements, which give them access to their spells. At her level she would normally have three implements. She has 2 because I chose a panolpy instead. Her panolpy gives her full BaB. Which is rough as this forces her to take Abjuration and Transmutation, which both have subpar spells lists at this level. It also forces her to put her mental focus in those two implements, which also sucks. This is because Abjuration gives her resistance saves, which she already gets from automatic bonus progression. So in short, she traded magical power for full BaB. Worth it for an archer.
(2) Bane on Command: Occultists get Mental Focus, which is lvl+int. These can be spent on powers, based on implements chosen. In her case, she has Transmutation, which has the power “Legacy Weapon.” For a standard Action and 1 point of mental focus she gets +1 enchantment bonus, which can be used on a special ability. But as that needs a weapon to be magical, I took VMC Magus. That gives her an Arcane Pool, which lets her give +1 enchantment as a swift action. Both abilities explicitly stack with existing enchantment bonuses. Both buffs last 1 minute.
Therefore, she has 4 points of mental focus given to Transmutation and 4 points of Arcane Pool. Thus 4 times a day, for a swift and standard, she can make her mundane bow +1 with Bane. This is where the majority of her damage comes from.
All in all...for 4 minutes a day she is a great archer. Other than that? She is a mediocre archer, who will eventually have useful spells, with an anti-magic and healing focus.
Goggeck Ghack |
Hello Brunhild!
Those four minutes could be damn handy ones. And as GM_Armok says, we have a number of frontliners.
Glor Stonebeard |
I am back. And I am sad to see Boomer bow out. But also glad we have a replacement! Boomer could do area affects, and later could have done all sorts of cool infusions as buffs. Brunhild would be a good replacement for me... Hmm. Have you guys been plotting behind my back. :)
Regardless, welcome Brunhild.
Brunhild Liefdottir |
Well, Glor is a Kineticist. And I’m of the opinion that earth Kineticists are the most useful, because they can move earth at-will. Take a few ranks in knowledge engineering, and you can make basic fortifications. Perfect for when the party stops for the night or when conflict is inevitable and known.
The only overlap we have is that we are both Ranged. But besides for that we are as different as a melee ranger to a bloodrager.
Also looking forward to joining :)
Toulbe Hilnack |
Apologies if I slow things down. I may not be able to post til around Tuesday. I managed to slam a rubber mallet down on my right index finger hard enough to separate skin from muscle. So, it's difficult to type.
Thankfully it didn't do any crazy damage but still very sensitive.
Goggeck Ghack |
OUCH!
Take care of that and see you when we see you.
Goggeck Ghack |
The Chapel webcomic pokes fun at the oddities and quirks of various games. I got a smile out of their Dwarf Fortress take. :)
GM_Armok |
FYI, I’ve messaged Urist’s player and am hopeful for a response. It’d be a shame to lose two players so rapidly. But, returning to camp at this point will allow Brunhild to join in. Will update in the morning.
GM_Armok |
Apologies again. Friday ended up being a very tough day, Saturday was busy, and Sunday spent recuperating on the couch. But, I'm back!
Brunhild we are ready for you in gameplay!
Goggeck Ghack |
Paizo boards acted up yesterday so I'm only now catching up!
Toulbe Hilnack |
Hey, everyone just wanted to say that I apologize for the delays. Depression is a pretty hard problem to slog through sometimes and it's really been getting the better of me. It's been taking most of my energy just to keep up with my child during the hours that I am his sole provider. I'm hoping to get a better handle on it soon but if not, then well I have an appointment eventually with my doctors to hopefully get placed with a therapist again. I've pretty much ignored all the games I'm a player in, save one that updates very slowly and that's not cool to my other groups so I'll be cutting a few or offering to at least.
I have likely been holding things up or even my posts are becoming a bit awkward with my sporadic posting. If you'd like me to withdraw I will completely understand.
GM_Armok |
Thank you for checking in Toulbe :) As a mental health professional, and as someone who has lived with depression, I highly support you finding someone to work with who can help.
I personally don’t feel you’ve held things up. I have enjoyed Toulbe’s role in this party and campaign, and I would hope that you can continue with us at a pace you feel comfortable with. This hobby has become a big part of my self care, and I would like to think it can work for you that way too.
If you feel instead you need to drop out for your benefit, no hard feelings. Please know that you will always be welcomed back with victorious fanfare!
Goggeck Ghack |
Toulbe, take care and you are very welcome here!
Urist McFatson |
Hey guys. I'd like to apologize for ghosting you all over the weeks. Life got a little busy, a few conventions happened, and I went way too hard on the Classic WoW release.
I don't really have a good excuse for it, just figured I'd be honest.
If you'd prefer to swap me out for someone who's more active and attentive, I'd 100% understand. Otherwise, I could read through the thread to catch up and try to get a post up in next couple of days.

Same goes for you Urist! I'd rather have players take a break and come back than drop out. In fact, in order of preference:
1) Be engaged and post at your own pace.
2) Be communicative and take a break when you need to.
3) Be communicative and drop out if you need to.
4) No call no show.
Will have an update for you tomorrow.
Glor Stonebeard |
I wanted to note that some family stuff has been pulling me out of town and away from my computer so I have been part of the slow posting problems. I hope all that is settled and I can get back to daily posting.
GM_Armok |
I’m heading out of town for a wedding this weekend. Will try to not for Urist and Toulbe tomorrow if they haven’t posted by then.
Goggeck Ghack |
Enjoy!
Brunhild Liefdottir |
How long does the group wait in combat for someone to be botted?
Know the GM left town for a wedding and is probably busy. But is good info to know
GM_Armok |
My apologies, things have been extremely busy at work lately, leaving me with little energy to post in the afternoons. Trying to attend to my campaigns one by one. I will update here by the end of the day.
In answer to Brunhild's question, I try to keep things moving while also holding space for people to get a post in when they are able. I don't like botting, sometimes it feels as if I'm just playing a one-man campaign. It's a necessary evil though, to keep the ball rolling. So, I try to give people 24 hrs since the latest post to act in combat.

Apologies for being gone, I'm hopefully back with more activity. Things have settled down and my health is better so I hope that I can continue to post and help keep the game lively and going~!
Goggeck Ghack |
Welcome back all!
Glor Stonebeard |
I have been out as well. Dealing with family issues still over long weekends. Mostly handled. But now I have a trip leaving Oct. 29 for two weeks and I am unsure of how much internet time I will have while traveling. I'll do my best.
GM_Armok |
I'm going out of town to visit my newborn nephew Sat-Wednesday. I'm gonna try my hardest to get you through the final room of this dungeon this week!
GM_Armok |
FYI, I am travelling out of town to see family and go to the Texas Renaissance Festival!!!!!! leaving tomorrow and returning Wednesday evening.
