The sound of casting is heard and Marnir can see the Tiefling sorceress finish her spell.
From out of the air a beautiful woman with black wings appears, surveying the battle field with a merciless sneer.
Some calamity has befallen this angelic warrior. Wings stained black shear the air as her merciless eyes search for a target.

I've got see invisibility running. I wasn't clear if she was invisible or not, but now I know she is can I retrospectively call out a warning to everyone?
Marnir Saltvig |
Movement deep in the corner of the theatre catches Marnir's eye as he lines up for another axe swing. "Invisible lurker in the far corner!" he calls out, hoping his mer-friends can deal with the spellcaster while he and Kung take on the barbarian and the summoned winged beast.

Kung has concealment from blur:

So I think only the 1st and 3rd hits connect, and I think the crit didn't confirm on the 3rd hit (though the die roll includes the crit damage). I see Kung taking 10 and 10 damage (reduced to 9 and 9 from DR); do you agree?

Kung easily dispatches the Chain devil.
Marnir steps around the corner and interrupts the Sorceress as she tries another summoning spell.
Realizing she's now alone as the Bard has used Dimension door to flee the Sorceress throws up her hands and surrenders.
She offers to show you where their orders are kept, and their earnings, as long as you don't turn her over to Arronax Endymion. His hatred of Chelaxian's and what he does to those he captures is well known in Cheliax.
Lady Nightshade serves as the troupe's magical support, be that a need for "special effects"-illusions or summoned monsters to play the role of victims in their performances-or a need for the same to play the role of thugs and minions in battle.
Nightshade's ancestry carries a strong dose of urdefhan blood.
These eerie, half-daemonic creatures dwell in the deepest reaches of the
Darklands, and she's inherited their disturbing trait of transparent skin
and musculature. She appears as a skeleton wrapped in a woman's translucent flesh, and as such tends to stay behind the scenes during performances so as to not distract the audience.

Gorebeard.
Potion of barkskin +2

Bracers of armor +3 ,

Ring of the ram (17 charges),

Marnir Saltvig |
"Good idea," Marnir says as the sorceress raises her hands in surrender. Now he has time to take in more detail he notices her transparent skin and the visible skeleton beneath. He balks slightly at her appearance as he grabs her by the arm and leads her back out into the theatre. "It's over. This one's surrendered and the other one's run off," he says to the others.
"Right, show us where the papers are," he instructs the sorceress gruffly.
GM_DBH |
Once the troupe is defeated, a search of the tavern finds 4,800gp in coin and jewelry (some of which was earned honestly from patrons, but most of which was pickpocketed by Lady Nightshade).
Lady Nightshade shows you the evidence proving that the three performers are Chelish agents sent to the Shackles by House Thrune specifically to discredit Arronax Endymion.
What are you doing now?
Marnir Saltvig |
"Why you? And why Endymion? What is Cheliax up to, getting involved in the Shackles?" Marnir asks gruffly.
Kungrusdak Nosvunkuk |
Kung absorbs himself in the loot items, but doesn't find anything he needs to add to his own collection at this time.
He could upgrade his ring of protection to +2 from this loot, however, if nobody else wants it. He's got pretty good defenses now, though, so it's not critical.
He off-handedly answers Marnir, forgetting that his captain was actually interrogating their prisoner. "Cheliax wants own The Shackles; even Kung know that."
GM_DBH |
Lady nightshade shrugs, a disturbing sight as you can see her bones moving clearly through her translucent skin. "That's been our job for many years. We work for the Thrunes as slanderers, destroyers of reputations, and spreaders of propaganda and misinformation. The Thrunes would love to get rid of Endymion, he sacked and burned a lot of their properties before he headed to the Shackles. And he still goes out of his way to hit the Thrunes at any opportunity he gets."
She thinks a bit more. "Plus if Cheliax is going to take the Shackles dividing the opposition is always their first move.""
That's about all she knows. The Bard was the leader who handled their contracts, so she knows a lot more than Nightshade. When the Bard did a runner she didn't let Nightshade know where she was going, so Nightshade doesn't know where she is, or what she is going to do? Nightshade now just wants to get out of the Shackles and never met you lot again.
Marnir Saltvig |
"So you have no idea where she's gone?," Marnir asks Nightshade, concerned about the fact that the leader seems to have disappeared into the city. "Does she have any other allies here, or somewhere she might go to receive further instructions?"
Marnir Saltvig |
With their business with Endymion concluded, Marnir suggests they head back to the Drake to sleep off the night's events. "That didn't go entirely the way I'd expected," he confesses, shaking his head at how badly wrong their 'stealth' mission had gone. "Never mind, maybe finding Scaggs will be easier," he says hopefully.
The next morning finds Marnir looking for somewhere along the harbour for breakfast, and starting to put out careful feelers for anyone who moight know where to find Scaggs. He keeps his questions vague to start with, not wanting to tip off any spies that Harrigan might have planted around the Shackles.

The Vanishing of Scags Rotgram.
"Looky mates, I know all about Scags Rotgram, and his ship, the Devilish Duchess. Fell afoul o' the curse of Dagon's Jaws, he did, or so everyone says. But see here, the curse of Dagon's Jaws is all a bucket of sahuagin piss! The problem is, ain't too many know how to navigate 'em. They're 'red isles,' mates. Iron heavy. They'll kick yer com pass off a little. Yellowbacks get scared when their needles start twitchin' and head for landmarks. Problem is, there ain't none 'cept by traveling between the two isles. There's a quarter-mile strait between 'em called Dagon's Gullet. Why? Cause it swallows ships. It's all sargasso and shoals. Those trying to shoot the Gullet usually end up grounding out on the rocks.
Bet there's a dozen ships at the bottom of that channel. I'd also bet the Devilish Duchess ain't one of 'em . Scags, he warn't fooled by old legends. He knew what he was doing when he headed that way-knew that if someone were chasin' him, the Jaws'd be his best bet t'scape pursuit. If
Scags ain't back yet, I 'd wager that's his own doing-that man's got a talent for dodgin' Besmara's last kiss, he does. I 'm sure he's still kickin' somewhere on that rock"
I think I have put this up before, but so long ago it might as well be repeated.
Kungrusdak Nosvunkuk |
Kung's eyes light up at the sound of Dagon's Jaws. Dangerous sea travel was just what got the half-orc's blood flowing. The challenge of keeping a ship afloat in such tumultuous waters was as exciting as a game of chance over a bottle of rotgut.
Marnir Saltvig |
"Sounds like we know where to look," Marnir says, swigging the rest of his pint and slamming the tankard down on the table. "Let's get back to the Drake and plot a course."
Kungrusdak Nosvunkuk |
Kung looks down to his own drink with a slight frown, then remembers the stores of drink they always kept on the Drake. He downs the one in front of him with gusto and leaps to his feet, ready to go.

From Hell harbor to Dagon's jaws will take you SW to the other side of the Shackles.
After a weeks peaceful sailing you see a sudden storm appear of the horizon as the Unchained Drake is passing between the Mainland and Senchu bay.
The storm is too sudden and appears out of a clear sky. It seems to have been magically created?
The increased winds are driving the Drake towards the shore.
Profession Sailor DC30 to keep your ship away from the beach. Everyone can aid on this.
Marnir Saltvig |
Marnir spots the sudden appearance of the storm just as he feels the rising winds begin to take control of the sails. He grips the wheel tightly and calls out. "That storm's come from nowhere!" he yells, hauling on the ship's wheel to keep their course away from the shore.
"All hands on deck!" he roars as the first drops of rain land, sailors hurrying into the rigging and hauling on lines as edge of the storm hits.

Niobe glances this way and that, frowning slightly at the sudden squall.
"This isn't natural. Someone's trying to drive us ashore," she announces loudly over the storm.
Casting control winds to dampen the force of the wind. Since I have the Waterway Caster feat, I should be able to automatically pass the concentration check for casting on a ship in violent motion.
GM_DBH |
Between Marnir & Kung's seamanship, and Niobe blunting the winds attempting to hammer the Drake you regain control and turn from the shore.
Even as you do though a gargantuan creature rises from under the waters.
Charybdis
You also realize that a Charybdis does not have magic and could not have summoned this storm?
