Lubella is able to stabilize the dying creature. Floating near his clawed hand is the wand he had used a few times. The glint of a necklace also catches her attention.

The room has the appointments of a caster, littered with shells and seaweed parchments.

Lubella quickly glanced at the carvings; she didn't have time to try to decipher them. She grabbed the wand, the necklace and some of the shells and parchments.

Then she started swimming, taking the shortest route back to the well. She had a feeling that her magical air supply would run out soon.

Not even taking the time to cast Detect Magic and spend the 3 rounds focussing on the magic auras. We had two combats, and the duration of the Air Bubble spells is only 6 minutes, so we're cutting it close here.

Talvek helps Lubella gather the spoils before swimming hurriedly towards the exit.

Talvek grabs a rod and head band from the fish man. As well as a ring of keys on his belt.

There is not much else in easy reach unless you want to take time to shuffle through the carving tools, shells and stacks of seaweed parchment or to try and read the walls. All would take more than a few minutes time.

You all are able to paddle and swim back to the air of the lower levels of the crypts. Once you are out and have a chance to dry and breath the air, you are greeted by Octavio.

Lubella replied to Octavio as she dried her hair with a towel, "We ran into some hostile fish-like humanoids. They had crab-like crustacean pets.

"A spellcaster shrank me! I'm hoping it's going to wear off."

She laid out the items that they had brought back, and scanned them for magic auras.

By the time the party is back and conversing with Octavio, Lubella returns to her normal size.

”Very interesting. These fish people seem hostile, but are they working on their own or part of some other faction? “

The hellknight ponders the implications of this new unknown variable.

Lubella is able to find the wand, rod, necklace and headband radiate magic but the keys do not.

Lubella focused her attention on the magic-radiating items to determine their properties.

Lubella also healed the pary member who had been damaged by the lightning bolt.

After a night's rest, I think everyone should be up to full.

Then she cast a spell on Sidius, and sang while both he and Aros attempted to identify the magic items.

Casting Heroism on Sidius, and using Inspire Competence to give both Arcos and Sidius an additional +2 competence bonus on the Spellcraft checks. That's the last of her 2nd lvl spells for the day.

Talvek changes into dry, clean clothes and passes around steaming mugs of tea to anyone who might want one. "That was some fight, and being underwater drained a lot of our resources. Pun intended." He pauses to take a sip of hot tea, closing his eyes in exhaustion. "I wonder if there is a way to get rid of the water. Perhaps find the source of the flooding and fix it. We'll have to do that anyway if we want to use this place as a base of operations, so might as well do it now. Perhaps one of our crews can help."

Yes, this would be a perfect base of operations. It is not owned by anyone in the government, and easily defensible. he pauses.

The water will not do, but we can possibly find a drain, especially if it was used by the Grey Spiders before the battle with my Order those many years ago.
But, and this is critical, do you estimate you cleared out ALL of the fishmen with this last sorcerer?

Lubella replied to Octavio. "I did my best to stop the bleeding of the sorceror, so he may still live. He may be hostile, but I still hold out the hope of redeeming him. Perhaps that makes me naïve.

"We have also not fully explored the underwater caves, so there may be more of these fishmen. I addition, there were two creatures that may have been constructs. We had to retreat from them, so who knows what they might be guarding?"

Perhaps you could capture the sorcerer? If he can converse, he may be able to provide rich tactical intelligence we need on the entire lower complex.

He looks back.

Although, getting the lower area cleared will be good, my team and the others are not fond of the strange haunting noises of the spirit near the door. She makes everyone uncomfortable.

You all recall hearing faint moaning from the game room where the halfling ghost version of Lubella was left to her devices. Being so tired from your swimming you likely did not notice as much as the lower level hellknights and rebellion teams with less experience with the un-living.

Sidius says, "If he's the last, or near-last, I can't imagine there are many folks left to heal him. And, he certainly won't be anywhere near as effective without his gear." He shrugs, "I do think he was too zealous to be talked or redeemed, but waking up alive and in that position... well, reality often has a way of changing one's attitude. We can hope, at least."

"We offered the priest multiple opportunities to surrender, but they seemed determined to fight to the death. It may be as Sidius says, and perhaps we can reason with them. Do you think Unghol-Pagh was their name, of the name of their deity?"

Talvek turns to Octavio. "Ah, yes, we still have that to deal with. And you make a good point that we cannot ask anyone to risk the lower levels until we are certain they are free of danger."

Lubella replied, "I guess we should have brought the fishman spellcaster back here for questioning. I was in a hurry to return, being very aware of our dwindling air supply."

When Octavio mentioned the noisy spirit she said, "Guildmistress Lorelu: formerly a halfling, now a ghost; wants to play Odds and Evens with us. We might learn some useful information from her. If only I knew exactly the potential cost of playing her game.

"I suppose there may be a way to put her spirit to rest, but I don't know enough about her to speculate on what it might be."

Badly failing the knowledge check about Lorelu was very unfortunate, although I guess it was very difficult (impossible for Lubella actually).

Lubella remembered that they still didn't know the magical properties of the glaive taken from the devil; she tried checking it again, but learned nothing new.

After that, she consulted with Ovtavio and the other Silver Ravens about the fish-men, asking about where else they had been seen in the waters around Kintargo. "Do we know anything about what they want?"

Talvek shared all he knew about what kind of creature Lorelu is - a ghost that feeds on life force and is healed by it.

"Perhaps we should consult with a priest in that regard," suggests Talvek.

The glaive is inspected by Lubella to no avail. Sidius manages to find the problem.

The glaive was only magical while held by the devil. The bleeding power dissipated along with the faint aura of evil it had.

The wand is only about a quarter of its charges left (not sure you get an exact count with detect magic). You heard the command word uttered in the strange language of the skum a couple times.

Octavio knows nothing more about the fishmen.

There were reports of recent attacks on the docks. But there are always some monsters or undead coming from the river. So this uptick in activity was potentially triggered by some event. But it could be nothing unusual. Definitely worth investigating to assess numbers and strength remaining.

"Oh well", Lubella replied when she realized that the glaive was no longer magical. "It would have been tricky to sell safely anyway."

Regarding consulting a priest about Lorelu, she thought for a moment and replied, "We could talk to Zachrin Vhast about her. I must admit I'm a bit nervous about discussing our activities in the Lucky Bones, lest word of our new base somehow reaches Barzillai Thrune. Not that I don't trust Vast, but the more people that know about this place, the more chance there is for someone to spread the information without realizing it.

"Still, I suppose we have to do something about Lorelu soon. I think I'll sleep on it and decide tomorrow."

She spent the rest of the day inspecting their hideout, and directing improvements to make it more comfortable.

She woke up the next day ready to return to the flooded tunnels.

We should memorize spells with the intention of a 12 minute underwater foray, using the metamagic rod to extend three Air Bubbles.

Before we start the dive, Lubella will cast Heroism on herself and Talvek.

Lubella changed into her swimming costume and confered with her comrades in preparation for another expedition into the underwater passages.

Yes, we'll return to where we last left the caster. We'll bring the keys with us. Talvek could carry the keys, or Lubella will hold onto them of no one else wants to.
Just the two Heroism spells from Lubella for now.

Assuming similar pattern and preps as before, you head down to the place you left the caster.

As your light illuminates the room, you see a still and floating figure.
The half eaten corpse appears to have been the dinner of several of the local water creatures. Apparently the blood was enough to attract their attention in the dank water.

The scrawled etchings on the walls are untouched as are the stacks of shells and other collections in the room.

Lubella will have cast Message on everyone before we entered the water.

Lubella cursed when she discovered that the Skum spellcaster was dead. We should have tried to bring him back to the well! Now she had his death on her conscience, not to mention losing the chance to learn more information.

She scanned for magic auras and started collecting the items in the room.

Talvek grimaces at the sight of the half-eaten corpse, then he starts scanning the walls for decipherable writing.

No magic per se, but Lubella can tell there are several large clam shells inscribed with magic spells. Similar to a spellbook she has seen wizards use, but in shell rather than paper form.

Talvek tries his hand at reading the walls, but with his knowledge of languages, knows only the script is very old and very rare.

The carvings on the wall are written in the eerie
language of the aboleths. Beyond that, he is not able to read it yet.

Lubella showed the shellbook to Arcos and Sidius, "You may find this interesting. Perhaps you two could learn some spells from this."

She prepared to move on saying, "We should keep moving while our air lasts. Let's explore the tunnel to the north back the way we came." She swam back and explored the side passage she'd seen earlier.

Light on her scimitar as well. Looks like the passage likely joins up with the western end of D8.

Talvek shakes his head in frustration. "I can't read this. I know what language it is, but it's very rare."

At Lubella's suggestion, he swims her, keeping an eye out for anything dangerous.

Sidius shakes his head, "I don't learn spells that way, but Jackdaw and Blue might benefit." He then offers, "If we can drain the area, we can come back with a translation spell."

Lubella and the others paddle to what appears to be the back of a secret door.

With her light, she sees an opening with a large chamber that seems to flow out towards the west.

To the north she sees a smaller chamber (D10). It is faint at this distance and the mirk of the water, but she notices a few things of interest.
The eastern wall of this low-ceilinged cave is riddled with
one-foot-diameter holes, most of which are adorned with a
circular ring of silvery metal etched with tiny runes.

Lubella swam forward to get a closer look at the cavern whispering, "I wonder what those holes are for?" She looked into the cave for hostile creatures.

"The metal rings look like they're etched with small runes. I'm going to get a closer look."

Swimming up to one of the silvery rings, unless she sees any creatures in the cave.

Lubuella finds the silvery rings a bit unusual.

Of the six tubes, one has had its metal ring pried out. And she remembers where she had seen one before, mixed in with the piles of shells and other debris with the skumboss.

Assuming detect magic is still active...for two rounds.

Each remaining disk radiates faint transmutation magic.

As she peers into one of the holes can make out hints of a larger room beyond.

Lubella wanted to figure out what these rings were for. Could they regulate the water flow somehow? The examined them to determine their properties, but learned nothing more.

The ring of keys found on the dead fishman (was actual a ring of runes - my bad) and matches the one missing as found by Lubella.

I worded that badly; I was asking about the fishman's ring, but I looked back and see that it did not detect as magic. Apologies for the confusion.

Bit of a push here...

Lubella, while looking at the runes, can see the room through the round holes in the wall, and some sort of equipment beyond. But she does not see how to get into that room other than squirming (she is small afterall) up one of the small (1' round) tunnels/tubes.

Lubella reported to the others, "There's a room through those holes, with some sort of equipment in it. I might be able to reach it, but I don;t think any of you could follow me. Besides, those constructs might be in there. I'm going to explore this chamber some more first."

She swam north in the larger chamber, alert for any hostile creatures.

Forgot to mention, Talvek applied his usual long-lasting buffs before going in the second time - Barkskin, Heightened Awareness, Dezterity mutagen.

"I rally don't think any of us should be separated from the others, whatever lurks in here can probably swim faster than we do, and if they attack you would be in a lot of trouble before we could come and help."

Talvek hurries to swim after Lubella as she inspects the space.

Perception, heroism: 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (9) + 15 = 24 +2 for trapfinding if applicable

Lubella swims north a bit while the guys catch up...

Her light reveals another chamber...

The eastern wall of this low-ceilinged cave is riddled with
one-foot-diameter holes, most of which are adorned with a
circular ring of silvery metal etched with tiny runes.

And the glint of many teeth reflect back as it turns and opens in her direction...

A mass of blubbery flesh folded up hideously upon itself, opening a gaping maw filled with sharp teeth.

Lubella has surprise...then will start init.
