Game Master Joana

"We cornered his drunken ass in the Goblin last time. This time, we won't show any mercy. We'll kill him for what he did to Larur, and then he'll tell us where Lil is." -- Braddon Hurst

I wasn't sure who had it: Gris said he passed it to Samaritha 'if she seemed to want it,' and then she closed the door to her room and suggested he go upstairs to breakfast with her without explicitly taking it. But we'll say Samaritha took it in the corridor. Where it is now, only the DM knows. {insert evil laughter here}

If we want to be rid of it then feel free to ask Phil to take care of it... *innocent smiling ensues*

One reason I never play PCs with familiars or animal companions: I never know what to do with the darn things. It's like V's raven.

Back in AD&D, one of the PCs in the party had a bear figurine or something, and it got to be a running joke how many combats we completely forgot to roll for it to do anything.

Phil's kind of cooling his heels for the moment - or at least until the following:
1) Everyone's at the breakfast and there's a resolution of the day's expectations and intent.
2) Breakfast is over so Phil can approach Saul directly.

A reminder that DC 10 Knowledge checks can be attempted untrained.

I'm kind of hoping for a Captain America moment for Braddon. ;)

hp 7 / 38; AC 16; Init +2; 3 Str damage Male Half-elf Ranger 4

Statistically only a 45% chance of that happening. Considering Braddon is built on his lack of knowledge, I'm pleased he keeps failing.

One day he'll surprise us. :-)

Male Halfling Inquisitor of Calistria (Heretic archetype)

Gristav - in thread comment is basically meant to be a coda to Phil's involvement in the forward threads related to Micah et al from yesterday (unless they come back to impact in broader plot). The reference to not listening / seeing are because in Phil's eyes there was nothing worth redeeming there (it's purely a den of drug dependents to him and the Sarenrae aspects were only window dressing with no substance in his eyes).

Not intending for it to be offensive, though I realise it is pretty confronting language.

M 1/2E Magus 4 :2223a1: BAB3 CMB/D:5/17 AC/T/Ff:16/12/14 Init2 Perc1?3(F:9) HP36/36 FRW6,5,3(F:6) UMD11 Scft10 Alch/K:Arc/K:Lcl/Appr7 Ride/Climb/Swim/Dance:6 Dipl/Intim/Acrobatics5 Sense Motive3(F:6)

Very good for Phillip he has OOC to explain his Varisi, and Discussion to explain his Taldane.

Sad for Gristav, he gets to see none of that. (Though he speaks Varisi)

If Gris had apologized for social effect, he'd have to see it as wasted effort. Or even a loss. But he did it from duty. A duty now discharged. And the upshot born, as part of the duty.

It didn't offend, but it didn't build anything, either. One has to wonder why either man would bother with the other, in future. Or trust any approach or overture.

Phil's ambitious, right? If he can't make friends with a lelo like Gristav, how will it go with the rest of Riddleport? I suppose the plan is, 'perfectly, from the start'? I hope your luck agrees, because any fault appears to be permanent. If Phillip cannot be conciliatory, and cannot accept Gristav in conciliatory mode, I think they're mutually done. Barring the long-awaited and inevitable crisis, of course.

I also hope I didn't offend, or that if I did, it leads to productive discussion. That would be acceptable to me.

Mark, probably better just to say that Gris is an easy mark -- or translate lelo as 'easy mark.' Google Translate is a blunt instrument, particularly in Basque which is barely out of Beta; gradations of meaning are next to nonexistent.

Gristav, I think that the expectation that anyone in the party will be "friends" is a bit optimistic. One of the themes of the campaign has turned out to be strange bedfellows: Larur, as an example from the beginning, doesn't particularly trust or like Saul; they're working together only because they can find no other allies. Can you live with working with people you don't really like because it helps you achieve your own personal goals? That's what the RL workplace is generally like; just think of this as a job instead of a band of brothers.

M 1/2E Magus 4 :2223a1: BAB3 CMB/D:5/17 AC/T/Ff:16/12/14 Init2 Perc1?3(F:9) HP36/36 FRW6,5,3(F:6) UMD11 Scft10 Alch/K:Arc/K:Lcl/Appr7 Ride/Climb/Swim/Dance:6 Dipl/Intim/Acrobatics5 Sense Motive3(F:6)

Can I live with? Yes, I'm about to take a pastry to the tart. Gris will keep trying. Maybe less with Phillip than with Snake, less with Snake than Braddon. But that seems what Phillip and Snake want, in any case.

I can see that being my fault, in portraying Gris rather fey. But Singing in the Rain is not an invitation to micturition. I understand, as a player, that Logan is gruff, and Rico Rizzo is weaselly, and that Gris is more available to be gruffed and weaseled at than the NPCs.

But if you convince me I'm the worst thing in your day, why would I try tomorrow? /rhetorical

Sure, if there's work to do, I'll do my part, whether with coffee or brigands. But when Gris closes his door, don't wonder why.

And let's hope we never have one of those mysteries where we each have a piece of it, and have to compare notes. Sure, we don't have to be friends, but do we want it to require a wedding for us all to be in the same place?

Just think about it.

Male Halfling Inquisitor of Calistria (Heretic archetype)

Phillip + Gristav =/= Friends

Phillip + Gristav + Snake + Braddon = Work Colleagues

If (Mystery with multiple parts) Then (Work as team)

If (Individual Group Member has issue unrelated to group [Example: Young Dayn]) Then (Phillip keeps out of it unless invited by Individual Group Member)

If (Charitable / Uncharitable pursuit) Then (Work as Individuals)

Output for Group = Profit

Braddon doesn't get much time alone with Phillip, but I intend to spill the beans on Malkith. And yeah, when I get the young Dayn plot, Phillip is being dragged into that too. Braddon's idea of 'staying out of trouble' today may be a little off the mark. :-)

I'll leave the plate by the door; if it's still there when I return, I'm going to go get a key, and bring it in. I'm going away now."

I suppose it's possible the plate was still there, unseen by the other PCs.

At Dayn's door, I'd guess a subtle knock will let Gris deliver the pastry.

[b]"Wait in your room; I'm not sure how to gather the team, and keep your secret. Patience."

Then Gris would have gone to his room, until enough time had passed that to empower the trespass he'd promised Thuvalia.

I propose that's the circumstances the others find.

With Gristav's blessing - would a summary post putting us all into Dayn's room for the chat be amenable?

I was planning on moving Gris on into Daynadrian's room with the breakfast if you hadn't posted, just to get everyone together in the easiest possible way; let's go with that. I'll make a post to that effect presently.

Heya. As Braddon just pointed out, we should split those tables of loot Joana has sitting there unmarked.
Shall we sell every tiny item, donate the bulk to Saul or have it vanish to cover our occasional purchases?
Braddon already has most of the best stuff but will push for more if we do any of this in character. He can easily be talked out of it just by pointing out he's being unfair.

There's 2 daggers, a sap and a smoke pellet left from the first job.
Braddon could take the sap, but he's not really a non-lethal fighter. Kind of the opposite really.

From the second, we can sell the pretty masterwork breastplate for a small fortune. Though Braddon will happily wear it if suggested, but not without a paint job. :-)
Braddon has no interest in the catching cape.
I thought I already took the potion of cure light, but I'm down as having taken from the first job instead.
No interest in the protection from chaos... (is anyone in this party lawful?)
The 200gp Braddon wants split with Dayn and Malkith. 60 for him and 70 for the other two?

The third loot... fine Braddon will take a sap. But no more daggers. I don't want to end up looking like Merisiel. :-)
Potion of Prot evil to Gristav or maybe Snake? No one else is good aligned, I think.
Braddon will gallantly take the gold piece and expect Gristav and Snake to share the silver. And one gem each (which Braddon will think is 'fair' until he learns how much they're worth. Then he'll pout but abide by the split so give him the cheapest and let Gris and Snake make a bit extra to make up for missing the first two jobs.

The fourth loot- ye gods! Keep the potions on standby? Sell the rest? Split the coins 63gp each.

Always happy for suggestions from others. Mark, would Phillip be happy to middleman the goods to gold. Or let the NPC's do it?

Male Halfling Inquisitor of Calistria (Heretic archetype)

Braddon - breakdown of the loot from the Rotgut job

That's with Tendal doing the tradegood sales - which he confirmed at breakfast this morning :)

M 1/2E Magus 4 :2223a1: BAB3 CMB/D:5/17 AC/T/Ff:16/12/14 Init2 Perc1?3(F:9) HP36/36 FRW6,5,3(F:6) UMD11 Scft10 Alch/K:Arc/K:Lcl/Appr7 Ride/Climb/Swim/Dance:6 Dipl/Intim/Acrobatics5 Sense Motive3(F:6)

We've also the alchemist's kitchen, bundled into a corner of Gristav's room, of dubious value but definite potential, both as a lab and as what might have been found in the lab, if we'd looked, and not just looted.

It was a stressful time.

If there's anything on the loot lists that's not claimed or otherwise 'put on hold,' I'll assume that Tendal sells it in the course of the day. So look over the lists, and tell me what you want to keep.

Despite Belkar's experience, I'm fairly certain that protection from x is usable even if you are x. For example, a demon could use a protection from evil potion to protect himself from an attack by a devil; he just couldn't cast it himself as it's a [good] spell. I'm open to correction, but I believe that's true.

Umm, yes, right.

Sorry :-)

Well, since I've already added the +1 short sword, that's Braddon updated.

What's happened to the masterwork shortsword he got from Volo? I've still got it on his sheet, but it can be sold or given away if it hasn't already.

Joana, what do you want done with the scribes loot? Braddon already has the MW crossbow. If he takes the MW breastplate, that's like 80% of the gp value all to him at Dayn and Malkith's expense. If we sell it I think
335 - MW Crossbow
350 - MW Breastplate
200 - catching cape
50 - potion CLW
50 - potion Prot Chaos
985 / 3 = 328.33

And there's that 200gp I've been assuming was split but I haven't added yet.
So, Braddon keeps the MW Crossbow, takes 60gp and the rest vanishes to the now NPCs?

Open for input from all players as always.

This is a test

Malkith ain't here, and Dayn's not complaining, and it all looks good on you?

And Gris doesn't have place to speak to a split he's not seen as part of.

Dude! Who cares?! Keep it. The ONLY reason to sell it is if you flat out just don't want it. I'm always of the opinion: If it's useful and someone can use it, then use it. Don't worry about whatever percentage you are. That's pointless.

Just so I'm clear, when it comes to "stuff", I don't sweat that crap. At all. It's just not worth it and never will be.

And Malkith and Dayn are gone. They're NPC's now and forever. AKA: Redshirts. And I am of the firm belief that NPC's get NOTHING. Except for what we choose to give them(AKA stuff we truly care nothing for). :)

So as far as I'm concerned, keep it and roll on, bro. It's all good to me.

But that's just my take.

Re alliteration: I recently read a book I got for Christmas called The Elements of Eloquence. The first chapter is on alliteration, and the author gives the example from "The Tempest": "Full fathom five thy father lies."

Quote:
You can spend all day trying to think of some universal truth to set down on paper, and some poets try that. Shakespeare knew that it's much easier to string together some words beginning with the same letter. It doesn't matter what it's about. It can be the exact depth in the sea to which a chap's corpse has sunk; hardly a matter of universal interest, but if you say "Full fathom five thy father lies," you will be considered the greatest poet who ever lived. Express precisely the same thought any other way -- e.g., "your father's corpse is 9.144 metres below sea level" -- and you're just a coastguard with some bad news.

Dat dude's dad's deep.

I've found sometimes, alliteration, in the way of rules, can be freeing. When one wrestles with the choices an overwrought vocabulary offers, the alliterative option indexes against indecision, even as it aggregates and accumulates particular pronunciated properties.

When you cannot, for lack of courage, or certainty, choose, upon which foot to set out.... Dance.

Male Halfling Inquisitor of Calistria (Heretic archetype)

Gristav - you do realise that Shorafa is essentially in the category of 'enemy' at this point in time?

Laying all of our cards on the table in desperate futility gives us very little to hold back to ourselves... Malkith implored us to not share the vision even with Saul or Larur - so why the heck would you decide it's a good idea to share it with her?

M 1/2E Magus 4 :2223a1: BAB3 CMB/D:5/17 AC/T/Ff:16/12/14 Init2 Perc1?3(F:9) HP36/36 FRW6,5,3(F:6) UMD11 Scft10 Alch/K:Arc/K:Lcl/Appr7 Ride/Climb/Swim/Dance:6 Dipl/Intim/Acrobatics5 Sense Motive3(F:6)

Because if Shorafa feels motherly toward Lil, she's a right to know. Because Shorafa may well be the smartest person in the room. And because Gris still wants to talk about the victims of the Norgorbrite.

As for her category, no, I don't have a hate-ometer, and I wasn't the first to say no. Shorafa's count is that only Snake said yes. This already was not headed down Happy street. If I missed my KN:rules check and tried Diplomacy for a thing that wasn't possible, well, Gris does have an 8 Wisdom. And Ed doesn't have the habit of looking up the rule before rolling dice.

If it didn't go to plan, it's because we didn't have a plan.

(edit, 20 minutes after post:)

I suppose, really, the plan was to get the quest from the NPC. So, now I'm in line with that.

Male Halfling Inquisitor of Calistria (Heretic archetype)

Consider the alternative - Shorafa is only trying to use us because she doesn't have a clue where Lil is.

By giving her both the name of the ship Lil was on, as well as a vision statement of who she was with... you may well have given her enough information to get to her without our input - and therefore damned Daynadrian to his infancy.

I thoroughly refute your 'if it didn't go to plan it's because we didn't have a plan' - that's just a 'I'm going to do whatever I want without consequences' excuse. It wouldn't fly for Phillip to do nasty nasty things... so it shouldn't fly for Gristav to do silly silly things.

I expected things to go this sort of way, and don't mind it as a player (Phil's ambivalent as a character in this instance as Lil's done nothing to him)... but try and think before IC spilling all the little secret-y bits... pretty please?

Note in repetition - the altruistic bent of lets save Daynadrian and lets hand over the whore that tried to kill / rob / maim isn't what I'm taking slight umbrage on... it's the fact that Gristav chose to spend one of our collective secrets for very little hope of reward, and against IC (via Malkith) reasons to keep the secret secret.

Is that relatively clear?

hp 7 / 38; AC 16; Init +2; 3 Str damage Male Half-elf Ranger 4

Dayn is kind of Braddon's best friend. While Braddon refused Shorafa, he intends to hunt down Lil ASAP. He won't be telling anyone this until we're well clear of the temple.

The revelation of the party secret less than a game hour after it was shared means Braddon won't be sharing any further info he deems important with Gristav. For sake of OoC plot, Braddon will likely let slip necessary plot elements as required, like he did with his background that he never told Gristav. :-)

The fact that Shorafa now possesses that info means Braddon will want to start right now, in an effort to beat her to Lil. He's essentially heading to the docks to get a ship. Someone might want to give him a real plan.

Braddon's ultimate plan is to rock up to Shorafa with Lil, get Shorafa to uncurse Dayn, then either hand Lil over or slice Lil's throat in front of Shorafa, depending on how negotiations go. If Dayn is really unlucky, Braddon may kill Lil before Shorafa uncurses him.

While my vote is "Yes" to finding Lil, Braddon can be swayed to no by a party majority and judicial use of words like Job and Responsibility. :-)

Hopefully, Shorafa takes in Snake and Gris arguing, and put together some of that.

Curious: Has anyone else put together the Red Man and Asmodeus? Because 'leaves the ship on the arm of Asmodeus' is not necessarily a happy ending for Lil.
