"Have to traveled a long ways to come here?", Gerri asks out loud.

Merisiel advances behind Gerri, keeping a watch in all directions, but specifically upwards, because this environment seems to invite some threat from above.

Bishop will follow (as will Timber). I will cast a preemptive Gravity Bow from my wand. I'll hang back at the edge of the room for missile fire.
| Tarondor |
I've added some coloration to remind everyone (myself included) about the vines.
Gerri, echolocation did not find the xill warriors because they were on another plane. It did not find the xill leader because he was hidden amongst the plants, which at a certain distance, gives him total concealment.
Xill A's attack on Gerri: 1d20 + 13 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 13 + 2 = 171d6 + 3 ⇒ (2) + 3 = 5
Xill B's attack on Gerri: 1d20 + 13 + 2 ⇒ (5) + 13 + 2 = 201d6 + 3 ⇒ (6) + 3 = 9
Xill C's attack on Aquila: 1d20 + 13 + 2 ⇒ (11) + 13 + 2 = 261d6 + 3 ⇒ (2) + 3 = 5
___________________________________________________________________
As the Pathfinders move into the vine-choked hold of the ancient planes-faring ship, several xill slip out of the aether and attempt to kill the invaders. At about the same time, Gerri senses thoughts emanating from near the taproot of the enormous plant. Alien and hostile, he knows they are not the thoughts of the mindless plant, but of the xill captain who leads them and somehow controls the plant.
"Oh, very far, meat/slave/egg chamber."
As the xill materialize and attack, Gerri dodges one blow, but the next catches him across the floating ribs, a sharp thrust from a shortsword. Aquila's opponent feints high but strikes low, slicing flesh just above the right knee.

Because of the vines, you can't take a free 5' step. Nonetheless, Merisriel can move the 5' as a move action (that takes 10' of movement).
Merisriel's Miss chance: 1d100 ⇒ 70 <- hit

Vine Grapple check v. Gerri : 1d20 + 20 ⇒ (8) + 20 = 28
Vine Grapple check v. Timber: 1d20 + 20 ⇒ (16) + 20 = 36

Merisriel dashes to the side, flanking the insectoid alien and stabs it at one of the many joints in its hard, red carapace. It spasms in pain, but does not fall.
Vines snake out and smash into Gerri and Timber, seizing them in enormous, vise-like grips.
B = 29 points of damage
Gerri took 15 points of damage. Timber took 10. Both are grappled.
GM's Note - The scenario says that you can't free the grappled character by attacking the vines. They're simply too large and numerous. You can escape via a Combat Maneuver or via Escape Artist (or some other magical means?

Seeing now Aquila grappled by the Xill, he does his best to return the favor and help him out.
With a calculated toss of his bombs, Gerri bounces the bombs off of a couple of the vines so that Aquila and Gerri are protected from the blasts as they land on his target.
Precise Bomb, excluding squares with Aquila and Gerri from splash radius.

Edit: Dang it, I was typing this up while Aquila posted. Ah, then I misunderstood, as I waited for Gerri to act. Then I would have acted sooner and Mrisel's actual first declared action will go through...

Will adjudicate later (got to get to work), but you go in the order you post, so amend accordingly. Aquila, Merisriel escaped before you could act. Also, you only get one Immediate action per turn, and any immediate action you cast in the prior round counts as your Immediate/Swift action for your turn, so you couldn't cast the second liberating command in any case.

Yep, that's why I cast the second Liberating Command AFTER I ended my turn. ;-)
But I'll know for the rest of the adventure that's how things work when you GM.
| Tarondor |
That's not me at all. That's the rule. I was CAREFUL TO LOOK IT UP when you used the spell. You cannot use another immediate action or a swift action until after your next turn if you have used an immediate action when it is not currently your turn (effectively, using an immediate action before your turn is equivalent to using your swift action for the coming turn).
In the present instance, you used it on Gerri when it was not your turn, and then tried to use it again on Merisriel when it was your turn, which is what you can't do in this case. I guess I see what you mean, however. Finish your turn and then immediately do the immediate action? Yeah, I suppose that's kosher, come to think of it. But as luck would have it, she was already out.
Anyway, I do my best when GMing PFS to go by the book.

I don't think he meant it as an inflammatory remark Tarondor, I think you are doing great job and I appreciate it. Running high level PFS is not easy online.

The 1st remark was concidering the Liberating command, so an explanation from my side.
The 2nd remark was concidering the way you work initiative, and the acknowledgement that this is your game and you decide some of the details how to interprid rules.

Aquila wildshapes into a fiendish roc.
I was hoping that link would lead me to the stats for a fiendish roc. Can you direct me to them, Aquila?
Also, I know you can Wild Shape while grappled, but can you assume a huge form when you're in a space too small for it? Please advise.
Aquila Audax
|
Actually, the fiendish roc doesn't have stats.
it changes my stats by according to beastshape III, so: Aquila gains a +6 size bonus to your Strength, a –4 penalty to your Dexterity, and a +6 natural armor bonus.
Actually I mainly care about the DR 5/good. ;-)
If the space is a bit too small Aquila will be squeezing.

As a fledgling PFS GM in other forums, I also appreciate the discussion - really helps me with the nitty gritty that in a home game I'd be tempted to hand-wave.
I also appreciate the intended helping hand Aquilla! Apologies if I jumped the gun, but posting during working hours is always iffy for me. My intention of speeding things up seems to have gone a bit awry..

Alex Greenshields ran Cult of the Ebon destroyer for me in 2011. The way he did was that you could post your intentions beforehand and he would change them to the best of his ability if they became invalid if it was your initiative. That seemed to work really well! When things were serious the players could also communicate with eachother, so a fighter delaying till the wizard glitterdusted the invisible opponent for instance.

Hooookie dokie. Lots of intricacies here. First, I did have Gerri go before Aquila. I'm not sure Aquila would still have turned into an enormous bird, but what're you going to do? The real problem for me was whether or not you -can- wild shape into a creature larger than the available space. I could find no rule on it. I know you can't use enlarge person in that case. Anyway, Gerri's pyromania solved the problem (and what problem can't be solved with the application of sufficient firepower?).
Gerri's Miss Chances: 1d100 ⇒ 511d100 ⇒ 90 <-Neither missed.
Attack of Opportunity against Gerri (hit, damage, miss chance): 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (10) + 13 = 231d6 + 3 ⇒ (6) + 3 = 91d100 ⇒ 99
Plant's Smash attack on Savage (miss chance): 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (8) + 15 = 231d100 ⇒ 43
Plant's Smash attack on Aquila (miss chance): 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (8) + 15 = 231d100 ⇒ 26
Plant's Grapple attack on Savage: 1d20 + 20 ⇒ (4) + 20 = 24
Plant's Grapple attack on Aquila: 1d20 + 20 ⇒ (16) + 20 = 36

With a lithe twist of her superbly-trained body, Merisriel slips from the grip of the enormous alien plant. Gerri hurls a pair of well-aimed bombs that burn to death the xill holding Aquila. The adjacent xill stabs him in the side for his efforts and the halfling eagle shaman erupts into the shape of a fifteen-foot-tall raptor.
The vines boil up and smash at Savage and Aquila. Savage ducks quickly, sliding under the tree-trunk sized vine that whips inches overhead. Now in the form of a roc, Aquila squawks and flaps out of the way of several tendrils that try to batter him down to the ground.
Gerri takes 9 more points of damage.
Bishop, Timber and Savage, go!
