Thistletorp inspects the colored rocks, and looks for hidden switches, levers, and gears. Anything that might be used to trigger traps.

At a bit of a loss over what to do, Caitlyn decides to be nosy and have a good look around. Who knows perhaps they'd find something 'interesting'. Suddenly glancing at Thistle, Caitlyn changed her mind, with luck they'd find nothing - nothing at all!

Thistletorp perked up . "OOOH! Doors! They always have fun things behind them! Sometimes, there are monsters behind them that want to play games. Ooooh!! There could be traps!!! Traps are fun!!!"
He darts from door to door, carefully inspecting them for any fun puzzles to solve!

The first two rooms were boring: just rocks and dirt and junk. The one at the end of the corridor was better. It had a few chairs, a table, and a skeleton slumped over that table. A set of rusted keys hung from a rotted leather belt still hanging about its waist. Just as he was about to rush in and borrow the keys, the kender looked up and saw that the ceiling inside, right above the door, was covered with some kind of yellowish-orange stuff.
Caitlyn Weissman
Caitlyn gripped wyrmslayer nervously as she looked at the yellowish orange gunk. There was no telling what it was, but she was certain she didn't want to touch it! So it was she felt a measure of relief when Jackun was able to retrieve the key even if it did require magery to do so!
"What does that open I wonder..." she asked her companions.

[] Thistletorp Babblebrook, you may want to be more careful about poking things with sticks. They may hurt you and then you will not be able to play with the refugee children [/b] she says.

Thistle already sent those kids to the Dragonarmy. They're going to go on a great adventure where they get to fly and fly and fly! :)

Thistletorp sighs. "Ok. no poking with a stick..." He perks and looks around the hallway. But! We can find where the key goes!"
Jakun Stormhoof
Jakun hands the keys to Mariel, "You should handle these Revered Daughter, Thistle may be too excitable if he has ready access to them.
Now that we have delved everywhere that appears safe to delve we are at a crossroads. Do we climb up to investigate that chittering or rest here and plan how to deal with that fearsome construct below?"
Caitlyn Weissman
Caitlyn really wasn't keen on encountering the giant creepy crawlies, but a certain base honesty made her point out, "Unless you have adamantine weapons up your sleeves it seems we have but one option.".

You could toss Thistle down and dash over while it noms the delicious kender...

"My invisibility spell does not last so long for scouting nor do I have it available this day.
There is something I can cast though that will aid you Thistle. Be quick and do not get yourself captured my little friend".
Jakun pulls out dust components and casts a spell upon the Kender, his skin hardens and takes on a rocklike quality.
Stoneskin, for 70 minutes, Thistle gains DR 10/Adamantine. Once the spell prevents 70 HP it expires.
"Wait, one more Thistle, to help you see better".
Jakun casts another spell - Darkvision. This spell lasts 7 hours.

"Thanks! Thistletorp hops and takes his hands out of Mariel's packs before very cautiously and carefully sneaks up the wall.

The Companions repaired to where Caitlyn heard the skittering in the shaft above. Thistletorp slipped in, mantled by Jakun's magic, he climbed through the cold, dark stone. The tunnel took him steeply upwawrd and after only a few moments the chittering came, louder and louder until a swarm of insects as large as his head rushed upon him. With Jakun's magic protecting him, the kender made short work of them.
Caitlyn Weissman
Caitlyn watched the little kender dart off and worry creased her brow, there was no telling what trouble he'd get into. Hearing the sounds of combat from abobe she winced. 'I should be up there! she thought furious with herself. After a while it became apparent that Thistle had been victorious, so she called up, "Thistle? Are you OK? Did you find anything up there?!"
If the hydra thing just has dr 5/adamantine then I think we should take it on - just a matter of should we rest first? If so where...
Jakun Stormhoof
Jakun grunts at the Revered Daughter, "Tricky hand holds, I am moving as fast as I believe prudent Revered Daughter".
Once he has achieved the same level as Thistle's battles with the bugs, he casts Light upon his Quarterstaff and enters the space.
Samnell
Thistletorp climbed and Jakun followed some distance behind, having trouble in the narrow confines. As they went, the air grew moist and eventually the sound of water dripping steadily from above reached them. they came up into a small cavern. A hole in the ceiling let through a steady rain of water, which fell down to a pool that filled half the space. They might be able to climb through the shaft above to wherever it went, but it would surely be a wet, cold, unpleasant ordeal. If they wanted to go further along the water's path, they would need to take a very cold swim.

"Thistle, let's head back and speak with the others about what we have discovered".
He will search and cast Detect Magic to make sure they don't miss anything interesting in this chamber - Pewrception take 20 = 30.
Jakun makes the climb back down, Thistle in tow. Take 10 on the climb again.
"So that is that, a dead end. It seems our options now are to rest and on the morrow either confront the Dragon on the Isle to access his treasure, confront the hordes of undead in the middle levels, or confront the golem like creature below the balcony on which we now stand.
I opt to rest, regain our strength and tomorrow formulate a plan to attack this golem creature. I can cast a spell to make one of you invulnerable as I did to Thistle. I can hasten our entire group as well and we can whittle it down with teamwork. I and the Revered Daughter can proof most of the group from its deadly flames.
Remember, it would take adamantine arms to truly hurt it. Lightnings would only slow the creature, while flame would actually heal it. Attacking with magical ice would be useful but no such magics are known to me, though the spellbooks I have acquired may have this kind of magic, I will peruse them tonight.
Are we in agreement to rest and on the morrow destroy the beast? From its shell we can also take adamantine to fashion such weapons when we return to the camp as well, another added bonus for our efforts".

Thistletorp sighs and slips back to the others. "OK. We should explore the island witht he treasure! that stuff looked fun!"
Caitlyn Weissman
Caitlyn couldn't help herself, "I suppose the shadowy dragon looked fun too didn't it? Probably the sort to hand out treasure to all and sundry! I mean it's undead, what does it need that stuff for anyway?" OK so kiling the shadow dragon. A request! Can we please figure out what breathweapon it has and pre-buff with the appropriate resistance type? :)

Knowledge Arcana Shadow Dragon 1d20+10
Jakun isn't completely sure, but he believes such a strange dragon is a singularly powerful foe and should not be lightly trifled with even compared to other wyrms of similar immensity. Its breath is most likely not acid, cold, or flame. Rather it breaths a kind of anti-life, like the force which drives undead horrors. Cold would be of no use against it and like most powerful dragons this one probably has a strong natural resistance to magic. It may be all but immune to ordinary weapons. The more he thinks on it, the more cold certainty dawns on him: facing this dragon in battle would be nigh-suicidal.
Negative energy breath that drains levels. Immune energy drain, paralysis, sleep. DR20/magic. SR 27. AC 43, T6, F43.
Jakun Stormhoof
Jakun shakes his head, "The treasures of that island will be granted to us only if I deal with the evil that dwells within, a sacrifice we have all agreed is not worth the price. I say we fight the construct, I have spells and tactics that will aid us.
Revered Sister if you've spells that deliver cold damage, pray for them otherwise, pray for spells that aid us against its fiery breath and increase our physical defenses. On the 'morrow,we strike!"
Jakun sits down in the middle of the balcony and rummages through his pack retrieving the spellbook with the night blue binding to locate a spell that will help overcome the foe. His concentration is intense as he reads and discovers one that will perhaps win the day. Despite the discomfort of holding the book, the Minotaur Wizard is able to master the spell after several hours and falls to sleep immediately to gain the rest necessary to be refreshed for the next day (or night) or whatever time it is in this horribly depressing accursed dungeon.
Caitlyn Weissman
Caitlyn glanced at Mariel, "Yeah that doesn't sound like a good idea...". Patting wyrmslayer Caitlyn said, "We shall just have to do without adamantine, and face the thing below."
Jakun Stormhoof
Jakun pauses at Mittens statement, "You may well be right Cousin. Perhaps another time and day we can come back and rid the world of that Dragon, for now, our focus must be on finding the key and aiding the Refugees in bartering their way into Thorbardin, we've lost two days here already..."
