Mariel Uth Kaldar wrote:
The half elf will collapse onto her knees and begin to weep Has hope been lost? Are the gods playing with people? Are we dice to be cast when needed? she states as she hold onto the statue.

Hearing the weeping, Goldmoon rose and came to Mariel's side. The statue caught her eyes and she strode past the weeping priestess, a woman transfixed. Standing on her tiptoes, she lifted the blue crystal staff above her head and placed it in the statue's open hands. It flared brilliantly, its cerulean hue painting the chamber. And the statue came to life, stepping down from its pedestal.

"You are my beloved disciple," the statue told Goldmoon in a kind, resonant voice that seemed as much song as speech.

It turned to the stricken Mariel. "Weep not, child," Her hand settled on Mariel's shoulder, light as the breeze but full of unspoken strength. "Know that in you we are well pleased."

"The gods have not turned from you, and will not while stars shine in the sky, though the people of Krynn turned from us to chase after false gods. But the end of darkness nears. Krynn will soon face its greatest test and you will need truth more than ever. You must return the truth and restore the balance."

"Far below this temple lie the Disks of Mishakal, round plates of platinum. They hold and are the truth, are all you need to call upon my power. You must recover them."

"The path will not be easy. The Disks now lie in the lair of a dragon. Therefore I bless your staff; if you present it boldly, firm in your faith, you shall prevail. But even then, your journey will not end. You must go from this place and search for a true Leader of the People."

The statue was at once back on its pedestal, inert stone again save for Goldmoon's staff, which it now offered back. The plainswoman, unashamedly trembling, took it up in great reverence.

Gods these days. Haul you all the way out to a reeking swamp, just to tell you to go root around in the basement. :)

He then smiles sheepishly, "Sorry, I have spent perhaps too much time with the Kender. It seems we have not been led astray in our quest here there is indeed a reason for us to be here. We must now find a way down. Gavin, are you well enough to continue or must we rest?"

Tania watches with a mix of awe and terror as the statue spoke to them, then seemed to look at her.

Then, as the statue spoke to the group, it spoke to her, inside her head! The message was clear, and so was the mission.

And so was the cost. She would have to leave her friends, and perhaps never see them again. But Mishakal's calling was clear. It couldn't be otherwise...

And so she waited a day, before letting her friends know of her special calling. They took one last happy meal together. And then she left, in the middle of the night, following the stars to her destiny.

Been unwell, sorry for the slow posting.
Caitlyn flinched and had her weapon in her hands when the statue moved. But it soon became apparent that something wonderful and unexpected had transpired. The statue had been animated by the will of the true god Mishakal.

Looking shocked, Caitlyn spoke as if in a daze, "Our quest is down. Down is where the dragon went." The prospect of fighting the dragon scared her beyond reason, but Goldmoon's staff had become a talisman representing hope.

Cautiously, as if she was about to suggest something immensely foolish, Caitlyn announces loudly, "Well then I suppose we'd better get going. These disks won't find themselves..."

She starts looking for a possible way down. Preferably one that doesn't involve the well. Now that would be scary!

Caitlyn begins searching the temple. She discovers a pair of worship rooms to either side of the antechamber, only accessible from beneath the dome. Farther flung, she discovers a pair of round chapels. The first contains little more than a forgotten altar and benches, but in the second she finds five squat figures clawing at the wall with their filthy hands. Gully dwarves.

"Claw, mates, claw! We gots to get through this picture. Just know humans kept their pretties in pictures like this," one said.

They were far too absorbed with the wall, which bore a faded mosaic, to notice her arrival.

The dwarves converse amongst themselves, often in circles, for several minutes before agreeing upon directions.

"You go through the big doors*, down the steps, then left -no, right-, -no west-, then down the lift. In the bucket! THere's dragonmen there. Then take the tunnel east again. -Sure this time!- And up north from to the big circle. -With the dome thing!- The dragon's there sometimes. Go up through that until you get to the waterfall. -It's very loud!- Turn right -I mean left!- and go straight down to the tunnel on the right. Take it allllll the way to the end. The tunnel with all the vines. Don't go in early, that's the Sluds. They're dumb. Go to the last door. Phudge keeps guards there."

You made your skill check fair and square. I meant to include OOC text with the correct one, but forgot. Sorry. Here's a cleaned-up version that's actually useful:

From here, go back to the main temple chamber. Take the double doors to the unexplored place. Take the stairs down from there. At the foot of the stairs, turn west and go down the hall to the lift. Take the lift down. On the lower floor, take the big hallway east until it terminates in a bigger one running north-south. There might be a dragon there. Go north until you hit the waterfall, then east to the first corridor leading south. Follow it to its end.
