If Calvon's HP line is correct, Xango's first attack brought him to -2 and second attack brought him to -9. Since he said he failed his stabalize check, he would have gone to -10. The next round Mem cast her cure spell, so since Calvon's Con score is 12 (and therefore he doesn't die until -12 HP), shouldn't he be alive but unconscious? Or did I miss something?

A general point: Oster is always keen to find and stop traps. If in doubt, he'll seek them out.

In general, feel free to bot him if otherwise would slow down the game.

Just as a reminder everyone, I could really use an 8 hour rest to prepare new spells. I haven't used a lot of my currently prepared spells but I do have new spells, including 3rd level spells, that I haven't been able to prepare since we haven't rested since I got here.

You don't need 8 hours of rest to prepare spell if you have open spell slots, which you should have an extra 2nd and 3rd level spell slot from hitting level 6. You only need ~15 minutes to prepare spells in those slots. It won't let you change out anything you previously prepared, but it means you don't have unusable slots.

Spell Selection and Preparation:
When preparing spells for the day, a wizard can leave some of these spell slots open. Later during that day, he can repeat the preparation process as often as he likes, time and circumstances permitting. During these extra sessions of preparation, the wizard can fill these unused spell slots. He cannot, however, abandon a previously prepared spell to replace it with another one or fill a slot that is empty because he has cast a spell in the meantime. That sort of preparation requires a mind fresh from rest. Like the first session of the day, this preparation takes at least 15 minutes, and it takes longer if the wizard prepares more than one-quarter of his spells.

It does specifically mention "when preparing spells for the day." The last time I prepared spells (before we even joined this group) I did not have those slots to leave open. While this is not mentioned specifically in the CRB, general consensus seems to be that those new slots are unavailable until you rest.

Hmm, I'm not seeing a general consensus online for this past "it's up to the DM." Personally, I've always run it as you just need to spend the 15 minutes, but I'm not DMing, so *shrug*


Sorry just saw this discussion, would have to agree with Calvon on this one he needs the rest to be able to prepare the new spells.
