Dead Suns:

This is a game for PbP Gameday VII, running in the August 13th, 2018-September 30

Dead Suns:

The Lorespire Complex bustles with activity as the doors to Venture-Captain Arvin’s private office slide quickly. The lashunta man jots down some quick notes on his datapad, and then he glances up and motions you to sit down.
“Welcome, Starfinders. We have just finished compiling some intriguing
news. The Society’s magical archive for divining potential new finds, the Communion Vaults, houses a perpetually sleeping Liavaran Dreamer named Whisperer of Solar Winds. The Dreamer rarely rouses from its torpor, but when it does, it spins interwoven dream stories that point us to promising finds. It awoke earlier this week and has given us an elegant story about a fractured sandstone tablet that could point the Society to a great treasure.
“Unfortunately, the three fragments of the tablet appear to be in very different locales based on the tales we’ve recorded. Luckily, each of these locations appears to be within the Pact Worlds. It’s your job to track each piece down and report back here so we can get everything pieced together and figure this dream out. Your first destination is the machine-driven world of Aballon. Based on the details of the first dreamspun tale, you’re likely to be looking for an android in a less-than-reputable city.
We’re sending you via shuttle to Towershadow, where you’ll have to figure out for yourselves what awaits. Time is of the essence, as things can change quite quickly. Any questions before you depart?”

Taking a seat, the prospect of traveling to Aballon excites the small Ikeshti. This Akiton reptile has red and grey marbled scales with notes of white detailing the scale's edges. She is dressed neatly in a fine pant suit that appears freshly pressed and of quality thread. Around her neck is an extensive necklace that covers the vast majority of her throat much like a gorget. If one were to look closely at it, they would notice that the item is in fact a technological device disguised as a fashionable accessory.

She smooths her jacket while speaking up, "Remarkable, I had no idea we had such talents here within the Lorespire! Do you have a print out of the dream so we'll know who/what we're looking for?"

"Yes, a print out would be most useful. Also, does the Whisperer speak the language of the Pact Worlds? If it does not, I would love a print of the original language. If that can be managed, of course.

"Do we have a name for the android? A description?"

Alva peers at the Vesk warrior.

Interesting. His speech patterns are worth noting and recording. His use of voiced fricatives where normal unvoiced is a significant departure from most Vesk Common. I must get him speak Vesk to me to determine whether this is a holdover from a Veskian accent, or if this is something he picked up, appropriated as it were, via other Vesk living on Absalom for a longer period of time.

She reaches for her small computer, setting it down on the floor next her. Rummaging through her pack's engineer's kit, she locates a microphone and plugs it into the computer. Hopping up, she pushes the microphone into Damorisovitch's face.

"I'm sorry, but what did you say your name was? And what were you prepared to bring along on the mission? And can you repeat that in Vesk, please; thank you."

"Damorisovith brings ze blessings of Damoritosh to our expedition." he states in common.

He pushes the microphone out of his face. "Now, if zis silliness is over, ve must get on vith our mission. How much ammunition should ve bring, and what is the acceptable level of collateral damage?"

Curious listens intently as the Venture Captain speaks then releases a series of questions in rapid fire. "Who is this android? Do we know where we can find them? How do we know to find an android? What is the actual story? The dream. Can we read a transcript? What other kinds of 'promising finds' have been discovered from these kinds of dreams before?

Dead Suns:

Venture-Captain Arvin looks a bit concerned at Damorisovitch. "While it is good to be prepared for any situation, I do hope you will be able to find the first fragment without running into any trouble. You can of course defend yourself if you get mugged, but please keep your discourse civilized. We have a reputation to uphold."

Arvin rummages trough some papers. "Ah, here it is.

“A made real one runs for fear of untruths
A piece of the prize stolen brought close to the sun
Under the shadow of a false-made tower”

"From our research into this dream tale, we can establish that the location is somewhere on Aballon. The reference to a tower likely suggests the “made real one” is somewhere within the Towershadow sub-settlement of the Aballonian Megaplex known as Striving.
It’s clear that the being in possession of the fragment is some form of artificial or partially artificial life, likely an anacite or android on the run from some legal woes.
That is sadly all the information we have. I would suggest that once you arrive in Towershadow, to ask around. Gather information. Maybe check local bounties posted, see if there is some lead."

Dead Suns:

Saffron doesnt really know what to make of the weird poem. But she does know a bit about Liavaran dreamers.

According to the oral traditions of the jellyfish-like, spacefaring Brethedans, their kind sent a large convoy to colonize the gas giant Liavara ages ago. None of them ever returned or sent word of their success, and when a second flotilla of Brethedans set out to learn what had become of their kin, they found only the colonists’ feral descendants. These “dreamers” had become intimately attuned to Liavara’s dense network of ley lines, which lulled them into a persistent meditative trance. The few taken back to Bretheda, however, have proven that the dreamers can attune to any planet’s ley lines. Anyone who attempts to make mental contact with them may find himself lulled into the same trance the dreamers experience. For the most part, the dreamers seem content merely to drift along the ley lines, but awakening them from the lines’ peaceful melodies spurs most dreamers into violent furies. Brethedans as a whole have treated their cousins respectfully—almost reverently—granting them ample space in which to meander and feed.

"Interesting, I'm not an expert in the field but I agree with your interpretation of the poem. What do we know of this Sandstone tablet? Was anything revealed of its cultural origin or significance? Is it indeed stone or technology coincidentally named after the stone?" Marble sits neatly with her legs crossed, taking notes in the margins of the video she'a recording with her finger on an AR surface in front of her.

Looking over the group, Marble nods, "Judging by the group that's been assembled, the Society must be anticipating the need of both brains and brawn. I'd suppose "average" to "civilly militarized" would suffice, Damorisovitch." She gives the larger reptile a large toothy smile.

Dead Suns:

"We are of course dealing with the interpretation of a different beings dreams, but I think we're looking for an actual sandstone tablet. To its origins we can only guess, but Whisperer of Solar Winds has set us on the path to great discovery before. Either the sandstone tablet is itself a lost piece of lore, or holds a clue to something else. Either way, if Whisperer of Solar Winds wants us to find it, it has to be important."

Curious listens intently to the Venture Captain's answers, storing the information away for future retrieval.

Curious is an androgynous android and if asked about gender will simply respond that they are neither. They never thought it worth the time or effort to ascribe to either gender construct as they have the biological parts of neither.

Throughout the journey Curious sticks mostly to themselves and can often be found mucking around in various mechanical equipment, murmuring about inefficiencies and comparisons to previous ships they’re accustomed to.

Curious is polite and respectful, though is obviously inept at the nuances of social interaction (i.e. knowing when to speak, when not to, not comprehending the abstractions of jokes, etc.)

The name becomes quickly apparent as 1) Curious is typically found trying to understand how everything works. And 2) it becomes hilariously obvious that they are incapable of telling lies.

If asked about the name they mention some of their first comrades choosing the name after observing these very traits. Agreeing with the efficiencies of having an easier to pronounce label, the name stuck.

Damorisovitch is a very typical vesk, even though he is not a soldier. He is constantly praising Damoritosh, who's name is the source of his own, something he holds in great pride. It is very clear he is anything but subtle... probably even less so than Curious.

On that, he has a strong tendency to take everything at face value. He tends to believe what he is told unless given a reason to disbelieve. He is very much about the order of things, and defers to authority when it exists... though if he is in a situation without a dedicated authority, he will tend to take that role as a default.

He is not a strong healer, though he does know at least one healing spell. His magic is more of the kind where he exerts his dominating will, and make his targets believe that it was their own idea. He does plan to learn more magic of this sort... at this time he is mostly limited to giving simple commands.

Slathalin is a well built Vesk. They look completely comfortable in any situation, while seeming somewhat out of place.

They are covered with tactical equipment, utility items, and things that would otherwise make them prepared for any situation.

But they seem bulky, in big armor. Despite all of the tools at their disposal, it appears that "brute force" is their best (maybe only used) tool.

Slathalin is an Operative.... that is Strength focused. We'll see how this goes.

Saffron sits in the corner typing away at her mobile computer, ear buds always present. An occasional grunt or chortle is followed by a ”Yeah, right” with more furious typing. A stealthy glance at the screen reveals several message boards open with topics varying from generative linguistics to subsets of drow death metal to Akiton blues country to Aballon industrial to atonal Kasatha opera to Verces punk rock.

She occasionally stops to eat. Not often, mind you, but enough to keep her alive.

Whenever she has a conversation with people it is readily apparent she spends more time looking at your mouth as opposed to your eyes.

Saffron’s gun sits awkwardly at her hip; she doesn’t like having it there but the Society tells her to carry one so she does.

”Anybody want to play cards?”

Marble joins Saffron in games of cards on occasion to pass the time. She is quiet and polite during most of the journey, keeping to herself and reading alternative Vercite graphic novels while hanging out in the community lounge.

Marble is always seen with a cup of what appears to be tea, she will gladly share with any whom ask but she is straight forward about the nature of the brew as to not waste any to misunderstanding. The drink is made from steeping the dehydrated blood of various organisms. Marble is infact quite the connoisseur, having recently tsken her first major professional step into the field of blood sommelier.

Her little forked Ikeshti tongue flickers happily with each new cup she blends and she would love to speak at length with anyone on the subject, or graphic novels to be honest.

Dead Suns:

After a few days, the shuttle reaches a blasted wasteland of a planet that—despite its dark and barren appearance—quickly shows itself to be covered in glittering metal cities under the full brightness of the Pact World’s sun. The shuttle goes through a set of blast doors into a city built inside and around what was clearly once a massive silver tower.
