Walking in the doctor notices the barrier and the gathering on the other side. He leaves it for later and speaks to the bartender.

"I appreciate the offer. Most people keep their good fortunes out of reach of others. Is that the VIP on the other side of the barrier?" he asks rather bluntly.

The bartender nods her head at Flex. "One strong one, coming right up. That'll be one cred." Before Flex can reach for his stick, a grizzled miner slaps the bar. "My treat! Well, Talbot's treat more like!" He raises his glass high. "TO TALBOT! SAVIOR OF TASCH!" The entire bar erupts with glasses raising.

"TO TALBOT!"

The bartender winks at Flex and nods. "Something like that. Gentleman came in not to long ago, with some crazed Golarian artifact." She is interrupted by a woman who just approached the bar. "The thing can turn thasteron into drift fuel! Can you believe it?" She grabs another round, leaving a hefty tip. The bartender continues. "He already sold the rights to our first haul! The whole town's got jobs now, mining thasteron. That was our business, you see, before the whole drift thing came around."

She moves down to Drift. "Hey there sweetie, what drink can I get'cha? My name's Podswald, if you need to holler at me." Hearing his question, she laughs and shrugs. "Well, my buddy from the town over owns a bar. He gave me a right good tip. Brawls involving fists, they're not that bad. But brawls using lasers, they break bottles. So, we each bought a laser fence for the bar. Blocks bullets, and keeps the fights a little more contained. Less damage that way."

Jan takes in the whole bar with a smile hidden behind his visor. "my kind of place!" he booms as he swaggers in, eying the out of place VIP and bodyguards in the corner. Reaching the bar he pops his lid and slams the helmet on the bar. "Bourbon! Neat." he rumbles with a smile.

Listening to the towns tale of good fortune he laughs with them, echos their toast and generally engraciates himself with the crowd with good natured bawdyness (Yeah, I made that up. Maybe bawditry?).

"Talbot eh? What a stroke of good fortune!"

Sefel sits down at the bar next to drift.

I'm a bit of a lightweight. Just a basic ale or other brew will do.

He takes his first sip and winces. Ug, I never like any of this stuff. How do people drink so much of this?!?

He sets it aside and looks over to get the bartender's attention again.

So... where is the man of the hour? Over in the VIP area over there? We might like to meet the subject of all these lovely toasts!.

Jan fits in well with the locals, drinking and having a good time. The bartender has no trouble making his drink, though it is obvious she doesn't have any of the premium liquors of Absalom Station.

The barkeep gets Sefel his beer with a smile. The drink is so hoppy, it might as well just be wheat. As Sefel chokes down the brew, the bartender laughs. "Talbot? No! That shirren is just some businessman from out of town. Normally that would be a big deal, but Talbot has really rocked our little world." The ysoki smiles for a moment, dreaming of her full cash register.

Snapping out of her reverie, she continues. "Talbots a 'umie, not a shirren. If you want to talk to Talbot, he's at the old thasteron mine just outside of town. He’s a busy worker, spending most his time there!" She shrugs, ”I don’t leave the bar much. One of the miners outside should be able to point you there easy enough.”

As you turn away from the barkeep, the group is approached by a vesk who was sitting beside the shirren on the other side of the laser curtain. He flashes a badge with the symbol of Abadar embroidered with gold thread. "Please come join my employer, Mr. Philt, at the corner table. He has something important to discuss with you." He stands there, hands across his chest, not smiling. It does not appear like he meant the “please” portion of that request.

Sefel frowns at the presumptive insistence of his "request" and then looks around at his teammates.

"They have my attention. Abadar means business and I am willing to bet it involves Talbot." Drift says quietly to the others motioning he thinks they should hear the shirren out. Plus he has had an encounter with him before although I believe that it happens after this as far as the timeline goes. Lol.

The group agrees with Drift. The vesk silently leads you over to the corner table where Philt waits. The shirren’s voice gently enters your mind. "I am here representing AbadarCorp. My agents and I overheard you discussing Talbot. AbadarCorp respectfully requests to know your interest in this man."

It worked, but only for a short time, and then changed to almost useless old thasteron. Unfortunately, we gave him a hefty deposit towards future shipments. He needs to be punished for swindling us. AbadarCorp does not tolerate outright fraud. It’s bad for business." He looks at each of you curiously. "You just want the item? What were you going to do with the thief? Perhaps we can help each other." The vesk beside him relax as their boss does.

Lay down your weapons and leave our town. You will not disrupt the salvation of Akiton, not when Reynald Talbot has come so close to saving our world! You have one minute to decide.”

The miners all start moving out of the way, some darting out the front door quickly... no one wants to be involved with this!

The crowd starts moving outside, the AbadarCorp bodyguards push their way through with their boss who turns and gives a final remark. He looks at Drift and smiles. "You haven't dealt with Abadarcorp before. We fulfill our contracts. Nothing more, nothing less." His many eyes sweep across the rest of you. "Remember our deal, we will talk soon." and they too exit.

The group stands in the nearly empty bar for a moment, as people rush past. In far less time than a minute, a rather large shobad crashes through the doorway! In two hands she holds a hunting rifle, in the other two a brutal looking warstaff. A small Ysoki darts past her, waving a semi-automatic pistol with malicious intent. The barkeep takes a long look at the two parties then runs off, scurrying out the back door.

Flexnaught’s shot hits the ysoki in the temple, scarring it permanently. He curses and looks towards the table in the corner of the room! The ysoki runs behind the table, rests his elbow on the surface and takes a shot at Flexnaught as Sefel’s shot flies past. The ysoki has better aim, even around the laser barrier!

Jan shoots the shobhad in the gut,right through a weak point in her armor. She's bleeding all over the floor, but manages to stay standing.

Flexnaught hits the ysoki with a great shot, despite the intervening table, splattering more blood on the wall behind her. The ysoki looks like she's second guessing whether Talbot is really worth the fight.

The first ysoki looks at her injuries and shakes her head. "This ain't worth it, boss! " She skitters out the back door, quick as she can. The shobhad growls, but can't do anything about it. Raising her large rifle and pointing it at Jan, she laughs. "Talbot will remember me. "

Thankfully, her aim is quite poor! The ysoki in the back takes Sefel’s shot with a grunt, then fires his own in return! His shot bounces off the technomancer's armor.

Additionally, you find a map to an abandoned mine a few miles out of town!

Jan doesn't see an angry mob, just some drunks irritated that the bar is closed.

It wasn't that Tog did not feel any empathy for the people of Akiton; As he was a member of a race of miners, he knew what it meant for a small town to have it's mine dry up, and how desperate it made people.

Tog instead chose to focus on the true villain in this situation: Talbot, the man who had sold them false hope.
