I think Taras's pendant is going to be a Bonded Item, in lieu of a familiar. I realized today that there's some parts of his character I just haven't resolved yet, mechanically.
Ross, since we're using the Zelazny system overlaid on the Pathfinder system, does that mean I have to re-memorize Cantrips each time but can do it an infinite number of times, or that I can just rip out Cantrips all the live-long day, so long as they're already memorized?

Sadness. Okay, Ray of Frost is spent. I have True Strike left for the day, and Mage Armor for, presumably, the rest of the encounter.
Mage Amror will probably last longer than just the one encounter: It has something like 59 minutes 30 seconds left on it. As for Ray of Frost, you should have a Acid Splash Wand soon enough, which is almost as good as an infinite supply.

Unless of course it's flammable ;)
Does Taras get any bonus spell points from his bonded item? Or maybe faster "load times"? How does it interact with the Zelazny Spellcasting?

I meant 'encounter' as in 'this entire fishery thing.' I do not use DnD terminology so well. I'm pretty story-focused. I'm rather glad sometimes that I have Jack around to tell me when I've forgotten to do something.

The primary power of the bonded item in the PFRPG is that it allows you to cast any spell you know (presumably meaning in a spellbook that hasn't been stolen) once per day, without preparation. It should be able to function without any alterations with Zelazny casting. I will merely stipulate that you must have access to the spell knowledge for the spell you cast through it, i.e. Spellbook in hand, spell already prepared, or Spell Mastery. I could create a more spell-pointy variant, but I'm happy to leave it as it is.
Taras has also made me decide how PFRPG specialists work with Zelazny casting: You get the PFRPG school powers, but not the school power listed in the Zelazny document. If you prepare or cast a spell from a prohibited school, you lose access to your 'specialist bonus' for 24 hours.
Which schools are prohibited for Taras?

Encounter has never been that well defined (which is why I'm really glad that a barbarian's fatigue now has a fixed duration), but to me it means 'an event you gain XP in one chunk for'. So one fight, one trap (assuming nothing else interesting in the room), one diplomatic event, etc. More than one combat can become a single encounter if more combatants join an existing combat, or if the duration between them is exceedingly short.

Verronax, would you like to take the 5-foot step back to make the ranged attack without suffering an AoO? Since the Halberd is a reach weapon anyway, it seems like a good idea.
Edit: Huh. The Halberd isn't a reach weapon after all. Was it in 3.0, or am I going crazy?
Halberd was not a reach weapon - it's the odd-named two-hander that isn't one :)

I missed the fourth skiff, but I cut two skiffs - in posts 199 and 207. I don't think I skipped ahead.
To me, it looked like you posted the same actions (cut southern skiff, examine trapdoor) twice, and your turn hadn't come up yet. If you meant to cut the middle skiff, that's fine, but it means you didn't have an action left over. You'll be able to check out the western door this round.

It really doesn't matter much, and noticing the door at this point, whichever point it is, I would investigate. Reviewing the posts, I see the point of confusion. Thanks!

Sorry to do this in the middle of things, but I'll be out of town for the next 3 days with no computer access, so feel free to NPC Verronax if needed. I'll check back in Sunday when I get back.
Do not feel bad. Ross, you will have to may have to DMPC me from May 13th - May 30th. I will be touring the U.K. I may have intermittent internet access, at those times I will post. Sorry to spring this on you.
All in all though, I feel the game is going well.

Thanks for the warnings, guys. Everyone has vacations in summer.
My fair warning for you guys: I will be on a dive boat with no connectivity of any kind from May 31-June 7.
Works for me - I'll be a delegate at the Texas State Convention from June 5-7.
By the way - we probably need a Verronax/DM Step-in.

I think Sargon and I have misread the amount of healing provided by channeling positive energy. It reads 1d6 plus 1d6 for every two levels past first, then lists 1d6 at 1, 2d6 at 3, etc. Verronax's character sheet lists this as 1d6 + 1d6 at first level. I had agreed, but I now think it was supposed to be 1d6 total at first level, i.e. that the listed values were totals, not additions.
Obviously, I'm not going to take away any extra hps I gave out during Verronax's channeling attempt, but I just thought I'd share.

Yep. Don't know how I missed that too. Looking back at the rules, it's pretty clear. Maybe something changed from Alpha 1 to Alpha 2?

Ross, sorry to butt in, but can I ask what you're using to edit your maps? they look really good (and since our PBPs have stayed at relitivly the same place I've used a few if we were close enough that the "battle haze" was the same. if you don't want to clutter your board, you can email me at e-gendron(at)charter(dot)net
thanks!

I use MapTool, courtesy of Trevor at RPTools, which I pimp at every available opportunity. I'm currently using the 'Development' version, which is 1.3. I create my tokens using another program from the RPTools suite, TokenTool, also by Trevor.
I'm glad you like my maps enough to lift them, but I should warn you that I'm overwriting the 'old' version every time I update, so you you might want to make your own copy before showing them to your players: I might update and make your players see more than you were expected.

Ugh. EVERYONE's all over Lamm's sauce, with Karista flying in for the Power Attack Leaping Killing Blow of Death, Verronax's crossbow up at the man's head, etc. It's like a Tarantino film.
We're going to be cleaning the gore off of the forums at this rate.
Isn't it marvelous?

How would you guys like to handle looting? I can simply assume standard search protocol (i.e. everyone makes a search check in every room) and post a list of everything portable, which of course is much quicker, or I can let you guys look around and poke in corners and things like that, which will take longer, but is more in character.
I'm also open to other options I haven't considered, if anyone has suggestions.

While I sympathize with the desire to Get On With It, I'm all for IC-searches like we just saw Taemin do.
