Male Human (Ulfen) Oracle of Battle 10

"We've been looking for you," says Hrunndalf into the well after an initial surprised silence. "How would you like to return home?"

Er ... I'm a sword. If someone takes me and whacks me into one of you, there's not really a whole lot I can do about it.

Female Quarter-Orc Sorcerer

"Nope. Adventurers. We are supposed to bombarded by the strange." As she ties off a silk rope, looks like she is about to climb down. Stops. "Maybe someone stronger than me should to do the climbing?"

If not.. Mel climbs down to free the sword and scabbard. She'll take a 10 on the check if she can.

Myri raises an eyebrow, "Adventurer. Comes with the territory, I think. Probably have to get used to it."

then she glances at Mel. snickers again.

Climbing: Doesn't anyone have Mage Hand? And Helgarval can fly.

"Be um, not quite happy to." she smiles, kind of.

she loops her silk rope around her belt. "hold please?" handing the other end to Rhost, and slips down the cistern.

climb: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (3) + 6 = 9

and apparently slips? no progress?

roll again? climb: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (6) + 6 = 12

okay, after next post by Kyra, cancel the above. Myri is slim. Not that slim, however.

I am unsure how you plan to climb down into the one foot diameter well.

Female Quarter-Orc Sorcerer

Mel swears... And tries to use Mage Hand to retrieve the sword.

One doesn't use magic when the mundane will work. Cause... it's lazy.

Melinda Sorn wrote:

The sword is too heavy to lift with Mage Hand.

Skillfully? Amazingly? Improbably?

Human Ranger

can a grapple fit in the cistern?

Hrunndalf Jarlsson wrote:

No idea. We didn't really chat much. Home, you say? I'm afraid I must refuse. My duty is to defend the Amatatsu, and the last of them are in this region. I must remain until I am reunited with that family.

"Actually, we are here to recuse our friend Ameiko, who is part of that family... So if you have any idea of how we can get you out of the hole, that would be helpful."

Myriana Bayden wrote:

Yes, but attempting to get it up that way would also risk causing the sword to become unstuck and plummet all the way into the water of unknown depth you can see 30 feet below the cistern's rim.

Male Human (Ulfen) Oracle of Battle 10

Use Mage Hand to loop a rope around Suishen.

Does Helgarval have any form of fine manipulation at his disposal?

Human Ranger

Myri gets the fishing line out of her pack, forms a noose with a slip knot, the second end will also remain at the top. She ties her caltrop pouch (half full) to that end. She will attempt to "lasso" the sword hilt, then drop the bag, closing the noose, then pull it up.

or do what Hrunndalf suggests
okay back to trying to lasso then? what do I roll?

1d20 ⇒ 11 bab?+6 (CMB is also 6) praying now

Melinda Sorn wrote:

Hmm. If they have found the Amatatsu, that would explain why the Five Storms made such an effort to find and dispose of me after lo these many decades.

Hrunndalf Jarlsson wrote:

That is too delicate a manipulation for Mage Hand.

Hrunndalf Jarlsson wrote:

You do not know.

Male Human (Ulfen) Oracle of Battle 10

"And that Amatatsu intends to go home for a visit. I hope you don't mind the cold."

"...What can you tell us about the Five Storms?"

Female Quarter-Orc Sorcerer

Mel turns to Alaric's current head piece, "Helgarval, do you think you could retrieve the swords for us, please?"
Diplomacy 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (10) + 10 = 20

As a roll has been made, this is now being attempted. It is a CMB check on Myriana's part.

Hrunndalf Jarlsson wrote:

Well - Suishen begins, as Myriana's careful delicate manipulations, start to pull him free, at which point he immediately slips free from the slip knot noose and drops with a splash into the dark waters below.

"oh, cr@p" Myri not happy right now. "sorry."

Male Halfling Cavalier 10

Kalimac winces at the sound of the splash. "That didn't sound good."

Female Quarter-Orc Sorcerer

Mel sends the lights further down to see if they can find the sword.

"We might need to find another way into the cistern." Her voice patient, quiet.

Melinda Sorn wrote:

certainly, answers Helgarval. i was rather perplexed that none of you asked it of me earlier but i assumed you must have had some clever plan in mind.

Helgarval turns into a dove, launches himself off of Alaric's head, and flaps down into the cistern. When he reaches the edge of the water, he tranforms into a fish and dives in after the no longer visible sword.

Female Quarter-Orc Sorcerer

While waiting for Helgarvel to return, Mel sees if the lights work under water.

Human Ranger

"Well, I'll be d....." Myri wipes the sweat off her brow, looking visibly relieved, but still taking deep breaths. "Friggin angel thing, I was almost...anyway. mixture of perturbed and relief.

Melinda Sorn wrote:

They seem to work just fine underwater.

A small white dog paddles up and breaks the surface of the water with the sword clenched in its mouth. Then it turns back into a dove, grabs the sword in its claws before it can sink, and flies up, clearly straining under the weight and moving only half as fast as it flew down.

It drops the sword into Melinda's hands, lands on Alaric's head, and turns back into a helm.

Human Ranger

um, is a prestidigitation in order? not that Myri has one. Just asking.

"Thank you Helgarvel." Myri says in a small voice.

Myriana Bayden wrote:

A wet bird just landed on Alaric's head and turned into a wet helm. Whether prestidigitation is in order is up to those who have it.

Melinda:
You are immediately aware of the following about Suishen:

Suishen, Guardian of the Amatatsu
+2 defending flaming katana
Aura strong evocation; CL 20th
Weight 6 lbs.
Senses (all with 60 ft. range): darkvision, detect Amatatsu scions, read languages
Communication: speech, telepathy
Languages: Common, Tien

Additional Powers:
Constant: endure elements
3/day: air walk, daylight, resist energy (cold), see invisibility

It likely has other powers you have not yet discovered.

Mel looks at the sword. "It doesn't normally work that way... does it?" She looks at the group, until she gets to a dripping wet Alaric. Smiles, runs the back of her hand down a much dryer cheek.

To the sword in her hand, "You were saying something about the Five Storms? Please?" A pause, "And, umm... Do you have a preference of who holds on to you... until we rescue Ameiko?"

If we finished the basement level and found no further down pathways, Mel will start to head up.

Male Human (Ulfen) Oracle of Battle 10

Hrunndalf turns to leave the room again. "Let's continue with the search. Suishen, you were saying...?"

Kalimac gives a small laugh. "Olgu, see oli vinge."

Halfling:
"Alright, that was awesome."

You have not finished the basement level. I have been noting when there are passages, doors, or stairs you have not yet taken, but I will make it clearer in the future, since people are missing it.

Hrunndalf Jarlsson wrote:

It's a rather long story. Is there a need to move swiftly and silently? You implied that an Amatatsu might be in the hands of her enemies.

Melinda Sorn wrote:

Hmm.

Melinda:
You feel your mind being examined by one which may very well be stronger than your own.

You'll do.

"Yes. Ameiko."

Hrunndalf's expression darkens. "Let's go."

Female Quarter-Orc Sorcerer

"We kinda of were..." Mel moves toward an unexplored area of this level. Occasionally glancing apprehensively at the sword.

Hrunndalf Jarlsson wrote:

Then the tale of the Five Storms can wait. Duty calls.

Male Halfling Cavalier 10

"Quite."

While they march on, Kalimac checks in with Attatoq. "Niisiis, Attatoq? Leia kõik rajad? Iga märk meie sõbrad?"

Halfling:
"So, Attatoq? Find any tracks? Any sign of our friends?"

GM:
Here's a (scent-based) Perception roll for him, if you want it: 1d20 + 16 ⇒ (19) + 16 = 35

Kalimac:
Attatoq can once more find no explicit tracks, but still is behaving as if he scents something familiar.

DUNGEON CRAWL MODE – Basement level, part 2

The passage you did not take leads you to the ...

COAL CELLAR

This room is oppressively hot compared to the rest of the cellars. A coal furnace roars in the far wall, giving the room a dull red glow. A heap of coal is stacked against the east wall. An iron door opens in the ceiling above the coal pile. Three crude beds made of poorly cured bearskins and wolf pelts have been thrown on the floor before the fire. A hogshead half full of cheap ale rests between them, next to the bloody bones of what appears to have been a reindeer.

You find:

17 gold armrings worth 50 gp each
A sack of 50 amethysts worth 60 gp each

A door to the west leads to a ...

DOJO

The ceiling of this grand chamber rises twenty feet overhead, its heavy beams serving as both rafters and supports for the great hall above. Teak paneling covers the walls, and the floor is of polished wood. Along the walls, wooden columns rise to the ceiling above, bearing banners emblazoned with pictograms from far-off Tian Xia. Anyone who reads Tien recognizes the pictograms as words related to the combat philosophies of those lands. Above these hang small oil lamps that give off a dim glow. A small porcelain bowl rests before the center column to the south, and four reed mats are arranged before it.

Stored in this room you find:

4 Masterwork spears
4 amulets of natural armor +1
3 jade raven statuettes worth 100 gp each

This appears to be the last room on this level, but the sharp eyes of Liothonae and Rhost detect a secret door in the southwest corner. It opens on to ...

NEW CORRIDOR

This corridor has been hewn from the native rock. Those with knowledge of engineering and dungeoneering note that it is of much newer construction than the rest of the basement. A door halfway it down leads to ...

BEDCHAMBER

A brazier in the corner of this room glows faintly with red coals, its smoke reminiscent of the stench of scorched flesh. A short bed with a headboard carved with the image of an open-mouthed demon stands against one wall, and a small table cluttered with books, scrolls, and a stuffed and mounted stirge sits across from it. A magic circle has been scribed in center of the floor with chalk. Torn papers, bits of old food, and other debris are scattered about the room, collecting in corners and under the bed and table.

The items on the table hold assorted paraphernalia related to magic research, including a partially scribed (but incomplete and therefore worthless) scroll of planar binding. The circle on the floor is an outline for a protective circle for use with a such a spell.

A quick search reveals a compartment hidden in the demon’s mouth on the bed’s headboard, which contains:

3 arcane scrolls of magic circle against evil (caster level 5th)
A vial of powdered silver worth 60 gp (good for three castings of a magic circle spell).

Moving back to the hallway, you take it around a corner to find a set of stairs descending further down ...

Female Quarter-Orc Sorcerer

Still looking at the sword, Mel heads for the stairs heading down.

Kyrademon:
<So... Are you still in my head? Cause if you are you should probably meet Makoa. I tend to... surprise people if I forget that step.>

Male Human (Ulfen) Oracle of Battle 10

Hrunndalf points out that the scrolls of Magic Circle Against Evil will last for almost an hour, and thus make for good preparation when one or more big fights are expected. As it is the case now.

With an Amulet of Natural Armor, Hrunndalf's base AC is now 22, and 24 vs evil foes as long as his previously cast Circle lasts.

Melinda Sorn wrote:

Melinda:
<We introduced ourselves. He judges me an acceptable weapon for you. I judge him an acceptable mentor for you. That is probably for the best, as if we fought, we would likely tear your mind apart in the conflict.>
