The Devourers

Game Master TerraNova

Originally sent as support to three planetary systems, a kill team of the deathwatch is forced to deal with the beginning of a tyranid advance. Can the battle-brothers stop the great devourer before their full might comes to bear?

Human, Augmented

Not that I'm unwilling to die for the Emperor, but how were supposed to get of this vessel again?

Blow the reactor, trigger self destruct, or similar setup.

Preferably after we've voxed for pickup & secured our egress.

Human, Augmented

So we can leave the ship via any exit we can find or make, as our armors are fully sealed. And we have jump packs so we can maneuver in zero G. Getting far enough away is going to be the critical thing.

So the Tau escape pods are the most likely option at this time.

Male Human

jump packs are not standard issue, except for maybe assault marines, though we can survive in a vacuum as you said. So we could get a thunderhawk to pick us up after escaping the ship.

Space Marine Ultramarine Tactical Marine 1

"Once our mission is done here I can radio in the thunder hawk waiting nearby to pick us up then we make planet fall."

Don't forget we now have an inquisitorial acolyte with us. I know we don't have to fear the Inquisition but I think we should try to keep her alive.

Human, Augmented

We, we should keep her alive if for no more reason than the intelligence she can provide: unless of course she's been turned by the Tau (queue the maniacal laughter).

Dark Angels Assault Marine

As a dark angel I'm suspicious on principle and don't like the inquisition.

Half-Elf Sor 1 (Storm)

Yeah, Aetheros is quite leery of the inquisition as well. Reinforced by her appearing and happening to know exactly where we should go to destroy the ship.

Ok, activity seems to be majorly slipping right now. So before we go down, lets take a step back - what is going wrong here. Please, honest opinions. If you want, send a PM.

Male Human

Camael is just avoiding being the first into the breach, that didn't end so well last time.

Human, Augmented

Single file down a constricted tunnel...Damn, we're playing 'SpaceHulk.'

SpaceHulk flash cartoon parody .

Half-Elf Sor 1 (Storm)

Playing the medic, I'm trying to stay back as well. I'd be happy to go in guns blazing, but figured that wouldn't go over so well. :)

Perhaps we could take more initiative in our posting?

Human, Augmented

As summertime winds down everybody is probably out doing summertime things...except for us sun-averse geeks.

Human, Augmented

Ohh, and that last gameplay post, wasn't a glory grab, and I knew it would be refused, but it seemed the kind of thing a space marine would say.

Lol that flash is hilarious

Wife is sick, daughter is cranky. I'd like to kill some PCs, but won't do that tonight

Human, Augmented

What's our order? Should we put the safeties on our weapons: a plasma discharge while in a tube full of neon & argon gas will most certainly burn the oath-seals off our armor.

Human, Augmented

Humming softly:"Run to the hills...Ruuuun for your lives.

Male Human

I assume space marines usually have the safety on unless they are actively engaging the enemy, like all modern professional armies do.

I think our standard formation should be: Assaulters up front, tacticals and librarians behind them, apothecary covers the rear.

Space Marine Ultramarine Tactical Marine 1

I suggest a tactical as rearguard with the apothecary in the middle to minimize their chance of a lucky shot taking out our medic

Human, Augmented

We probably going to be reduced to feeling our way through: we're going to be inside a giant neon light.

Human, Augmented

It would also be a good idea to traverse the tunnel in perhaps pairs: so we're not all in the dam thing at the same time; if the Tau do decide to vent plasma into it.

Space Marine Ultramarine Tactical Marine 1

Wonderful tactical suggestion, lets do so.

Half-Elf Sor 1 (Storm)

Agreed. Aetheros is fine proceeding in the order as described in the Gameplay thread.

Human, Augmented

And so we press on: hulking figures of menace limed in flickering St. Elmo's fire.

It would make for a cool visual though wouldn't it.

Male Human

there is absolutely no point in fighting fair when there are 6 of you and an entire ship of enemies.

We're space marines! There's no such thing as "unfair" fighting. Speed, stealth, violence of action: these are our greatest assets.

Space Marine Ultramarine Tactical Marine 1

And being bigger than everyone else out there too.

Sovereign Court RPG Superstar 2009 Top 32

Bigger than anyone else, and all in the same spot ;)

Seriously, though - wifes birthday drained this weekend pretty dry. In fact, my reply will have to come tomorrow

no worries, family is far more important than some dudes on the internet.

Human, Augmented

So TN, what does the Tau actually look like? Other than the armor the actual race is not physically described, is it?

Though of course the actual 'race' might just be the collective will behind the 'Greater Good'.

My impressions of Tau have always been that they are slightly shorter than humans, have bluish skin, that each caste is basically a sub-race which may or may not be able to breed with other castes and except for possibly ethereals have a lifespan of about 2/3 that of humans. Though I think most of that is me filling in gaps between what little is said about the Tau race.

Sovereign Court RPG Superstar 2009 Top 32

Right now, they look like bodies in rime-covered milky glass tanks. :) You'd have to take a closer look to get that bit of info.

Half-Elf Sor 1 (Storm)

I like Vrusk's idea of cutting the power. :)

In the name of Holy Terra, death to the Smurfs!

Human, Augmented

Suggest we move forward in skirmish line, using the Tau pods as cover to gain a flanking position on the drones.

Half-Elf Sor 1 (Storm)

Agreed.

Agreed. (forgot to click on "submit post"... :o )

Half-Elf Sor 1 (Storm)

Looks like we've lost our DM, so I'm going to be moving on. Had fun while it lasted, and best of luck to everyone in future games!

Human, Augmented

Well thank you Terra Nova, and I hope that whatever circumstances caused your departure are not too grave and are quickly remedied.
