Trox Ragmend
WHile Skarn reads Trox moves out of the room towards the other door near the entrance not wanting to leave a room behind. He waits for the others to move as well.
DM Carbide
There's some truly deathless prose on the walls, such as "Me Big-a-Big, You Small-a-Small, I Eat Your Head!."
Trox immediately sees that the door (and most of the walls around the frame) has been smashed in. The room has several heavy wooden racks, all bristling with pikes, longswords, quivers of barbed arrows, helmets, breastplates, and gauntlets.
Druamin
Do we have the encounter with the other ogres now or did you handwave it off and say that we defeated them?
DM Carbide
The latter. If you want to play it out let me know, though.
Skarn Hornfels
The latter. If you want to play it out let me know, though.
We are collecting all of the +5 human-bane, flaming ogre hooks though, for a later sale in the big city!
Trox Ragmend
Trox moves back to the party and starts with the doors in the hallway. First the door to the east and if nothing that needs killing the west.
DM Carbide
The door to the east leads to what was once a small, well-appointed guest room. It looks like the ogres have searched it, but not gotten around to vandalizing it the way that other areas have been. Jakardros murmurs, "The next two doors on the right side of the wall are the same thing." Vale adds, "The double doors on the west lead to barracks."
Skarn at his side, Trox opens the double doors to the west. The room beyond certainly seems to have started out as barracks at one time, but the furniture has been smashed to bits and the bedding befouled. Four ogres look up from an argument when they hear the doors open. These are carrying greatclubs and crude ogre hooks.

Round 1 (ongoing):
Trox rushes in and severely wounds the red ogre. Skarn steps in and pummels the nearest ogre, and then Druamin closes and finishes it off with a single axe stroke.
The ogre on Trox does the obvious thing and swings its greatclub at the fighter, who easily dodges the blow. Druamin is not so lucky, but manages to twist out of the way quickly enough that he only takes a glancing blow for 11 HP.
Erond and Cordwin are up!

Skarn and Trox's one-two leaves the final ogre dead on the floor.
Out of combat! More to come when I get to the module.
DM Carbide
Besides a crudely preserved horse's head, there is nothing of particular interest in the room.
Where to next?
Trox Ragmend
Trox mumbles as he moves on.
"Wonder what the deal with the head is."
He checks to be sure eveyone is in good condition before opening the next door.
DM Carbide
There are a couple of other dead ogres in the room.
Though I'm not sure how they all fit. It's not as bad as that room in Thornkeep, where the nominal occupants wouldn't fit. I was less than impressed with the designer.
Trox Ragmend
Trox speaks quietly.
"Double doors next." There is no pause before he moves to the doors ready to open them.
DM Carbide
The double doors open onto the western branch of the hallway.
Trox Ragmend
Sorry, I'm a little confused. Is that the double doors Trox is standing by GM?
DM Carbide
No, it was the other set of double doors in the barracks.
Trox opens the next doors once everyone is ready. The room revealed was at one point a mess hall, but now it's just a mess of smashed tables, broken crockery, and other rubble.
The door on the far side of the messs hall leads to the kitchen, which may be in even worse condition than the hall: it looks like a tornado went through it. Every bit of furniture has been smashed, no silverware survived unbent, and the stone fireplace is partially collapsed. There's a door in the kitchen that offers access to a small pantry. The only items in the pantry are a smashed crate and an untouched barrel marked as containing pickled fish.

DM Carbide
Skarn's bonus doesn't apply.
Trox Ragmend
Trox shugs.
"Umm, do we move on from this mess. Doesn't mean much to me."
Trox's impulse is to move on but I don't want to drive things over the rest of the crew.
DM Carbide
Anyone else want to try the Sense Motive check?
DM Carbide
Where to now? There's a stairway up next to Druamin, and several doors on this level that you haven't yet checked.
Cordwin Ironbeard
Cordwin will listen at each of the three doors.
Perception: 1d20 + 17 ⇒ (17) + 17 = 34
Perception: 1d20 + 17 ⇒ (1) + 17 = 18
Perception: 1d20 + 17 ⇒ (11) + 17 = 28
Trox Ragmend
While Cordwin listens Trox moves further north and prepares to open the door on the west wall unless something raises an alarm at another.
DM Carbide
On the east side of the hall, the southernmost three rooms are guest quarters. The last door on the east leads to a library. A long table with benches on either side sits in the room opposite a bookshelf filled with dozens of volumes. Most of the books have been taken out, mangled, and then messily stuffed back into place.
Trox Ragmend
"Emptier then I expected."
Trox moves to the north and opens the door planning to step into the room.
Druamin
"Well, it looks like these ogres didn't really take care of the place all that well. Curious that they put the books back, right? I wonder if they were looking for something."
DM Carbide
Trox opens the north door. The small storeroom on the other side has obviously been visited by ogres (or ogre, as only one could squeeze into it): crates, barrels, and a stack of firewood have been smashed apart and heaped in a tangled pile in the corner of the room. A flight of stairs leads down to the west.
