I can imagine old man Marten wailing in agony if the party contains a failed offspring who just stabs things
If you're familiar with the webcomic Order of the Stick, this sounds a lot like the party's leader, Roy, who went to fighter college to rebel against his arrogant wizard father. He's constantly fighting the perception that all fighters are stupid. He's the best straight man for the jokes in that comic.
Drazh Anviltamer |
Love order of the stick. And I would love to see Marten’s son as a fighter type. :)
——-
Also because I’m bored as hell right now...just rolling as if we will be using same build rules. So I can have something to at least theory craft on.
4d6 ⇒ (1, 5, 4, 3) = 13
4d6 ⇒ (5, 6, 1, 5) = 17
4d6 ⇒ (3, 3, 5, 5) = 16
4d6 ⇒ (5, 6, 6, 1) = 18
4d6 ⇒ (3, 3, 6, 4) = 16
4d6 ⇒ (1, 1, 1, 2) = 5
17/16/13/13/12/4
A 17! And...a 4. Hmmm...well that is something to think on. I think that I’ll need to put a racial +2 on that 4, regardless of what stat it goes in.
Maybe...with such a low stat could have a character with a crippled leg? Lame curse either by being an Oracle or going VMC. Not sure exactly where to go with this.
Azalia |
Never pass up rolling dice.
4d6 ⇒ (6, 1, 4, 4) = 15
4d6 ⇒ (5, 4, 6, 4) = 19
4d6 ⇒ (6, 3, 6, 2) = 17
4d6 ⇒ (4, 2, 6, 6) = 18
4d6 ⇒ (3, 2, 1, 2) = 8
4d6 ⇒ (1, 6, 4, 6) = 17
14/15/15/16/7/16
Not bad.
Drazh Anviltamer |
Very nice rolls there! And with a 7 there is a flaw too.
GM Kevin O'Rourke |
I'm not 100% sure yet, we can start working on it once we have this adventure path done and dusted... no point making Uncle Drazh's surrogate son as a fighter if he dies in the last fight.
One the plus side the Return of the Runelords runs all the way til level twenty... but in my experience it'll probably be just the last fight at level twenty.
The houserules will probably be largely similar.
Creydon Clay |
Dice? I like dice!
4d6 ⇒ (6, 5, 3, 5) = 19 16
4d6 ⇒ (6, 6, 4, 4) = 20 16
4d6 ⇒ (4, 3, 3, 3) = 13 10
4d6 ⇒ (3, 5, 4, 4) = 16 13
4d6 ⇒ (5, 2, 2, 5) = 14 12
4d6 ⇒ (2, 6, 5, 2) = 15 13
Respectable!
Drazh Anviltamer |
Thus far:
Grumbaki: 17/16/13/13/12/4 (27ish point buy)
Zanbabe: 16/16/15/15/14/7 (35 point buy)
Decimus: 16/16/13/13/12/10 (28 point buy)
Stats actually seem pretty even so far.
Ferocia Navarro |
Did we really do 4d6, drop the lowest? I can't recall. I always liked 2d6+6 better. But, if all the cool kids are doing it...
4d6 ⇒ (6, 2, 2, 4) = 14 12
4d6 ⇒ (4, 5, 5, 3) = 17 14
4d6 ⇒ (3, 2, 4, 1) = 10 9
4d6 ⇒ (3, 2, 1, 2) = 8 6
4d6 ⇒ (4, 6, 3, 6) = 19 16
4d6 ⇒ (2, 1, 3, 6) = 12 11
6, 9, 11, 12, 14, 16 (That's 11ish point buy. Haha.)
So... tiefling offspring of one of these half-succubi?
Ferocia's satyr-fathered lovechild?
Anneka's child that gets born 'deformed' by the shadows she manipulates and comes out a fetchling?
Honestly given no thought to what I'd play next round, but I do love making characters related to the events of the previous APs, or affected by them. I would wait and see how this turns out before trying to pin down a character or class.
Marten Daseto |
4d6 ⇒ (1, 1, 4, 1) = 7 6
4d6 ⇒ (1, 2, 1, 3) = 7 6
4d6 ⇒ (5, 5, 3, 6) = 19 16
4d6 ⇒ (3, 3, 4, 3) = 13 10
4d6 ⇒ (3, 3, 5, 6) = 17 14
4d6 ⇒ (3, 2, 3, 1) = 9 8
Ha ha, that's awful! The point buy chart doesn't even allow for a 6 ability score, so, projecting, would that be -6 points each? If so, that's a 1 point buy.
Wizard, obvs.
Anneka Avertin |
4d6 ⇒ (3, 5, 1, 4) = 13 12
4d6 ⇒ (4, 3, 1, 3) = 11 10
4d6 ⇒ (1, 3, 5, 5) = 14 13
4d6 ⇒ (1, 6, 2, 3) = 12 11
4d6 ⇒ (5, 3, 2, 2) = 12 10
4d6 ⇒ (5, 2, 1, 2) = 10 9
A 5 point buy :). I really don't know what I'd play. I'm with Ferocia. I'd like to see how this adventure impacts the characters before thinking about their futures too hard.
Drazh Anviltamer |
I feel bad now. Obviously my post caused the dice roller to turn against us.
GM...how would you feel about a centaur as a PC race? It’s 29RP. But if you take away Advanced Strength (+2) (4 RP) Advanced Dexterity (+2) and Large (7 RP) then it goes down to 14RP. And it seems like that would still fit in their description as ‘varying wildly’ when it comes to size and build.
That seems like it would bring it in line with other races. And would be a lot of fun to play with. :)
Basic idea was having was Drazh, whether he lives or dies, becoming something of a Giant Hunting legend. And a Centaur deciding to follow in the Hero’s Footsteps, all the while having a completely unrealistic idea of what the dwarf was actually like.
GM Kevin O'Rourke |
For Return of the Runelords even this weird halfling/shetland pony style centaur variant you are working on seems a bit odd. I'm very reluctant as I'm not sure of how much of a fit it would be. The fan following in his heroes footsteps out of context part can still work quite well. I always find it more acceptible in games where a population of an odd race crops up. I think the biggest population of Centaurs near Varisia is in Cheliax. I'm not saying no but you asked how I fell about it and the answer is uneasy... but I haven't read any of the book yet, maybe I'll get notions just don't count on it.
However if Eluvias ever dies in Kingmaker I could definitely work a full on Centaur into the group (no bonus feat). And with the amount of open terrain the size would rarely be an issue.
Drazh Anviltamer |
Sounds more than fair. It’s why I asked. :)
I’ll likely go with a similar context but with a more appropriate race.

And there we have it. Drazh’s father. A suitably demanding Dwarven artisan and merchant who overcame his own lack of a formal education through hard work...and who never quite got over how disappointing his meathead of a son was when it came to all things academic.

I can't recall which one of you asked me, but someone asked what freelance projects I'd been working on and I had to reply 'top secret' since they weren't announced yet. Today two of the many projects I've been contributing to have been announced. I can now proudly tell you I am a contributing author to Starship Operations Manual and Lost Omens: Legends! Exciting day today!

This isn’t said enough. Craydon, your build is amazing. Up until you made him, I thought Aid another in combat was insanity. You proved me wrong. This last round you stopped a load of damage from coming our way.
Creydon Clay |
For Creydon, I drew upon existing resources and builds. But I'm still delighted that Creydon has indeed become "the helpful halfling". :)
Drazh Anviltamer |
For the record, I’ve decided to go with a Lame Psychic Searcher Lore Oracle VMC Magus for the next campaign. Had trouble figuring out what to do with a ‘4’ and decided that having a horrifically broken leg is a good representation. The build is designed to not have the 4 being crippling as a character, but rather be flavorful.
Have a very rough story in mind for him.
Sharing it now as others probably think about what will come next.
Drazh Anviltamer |
Such...such a terrifying thought. By the time her faith reaches its zenith, who knows what the world wound would look like after it is remade in her image?
Marten Daseto |
Well suffice to say there could be a Cleric of Claire running around!
This makes me so angry.
Ferocia Navarro |
The world would be a wonderful, sparkly, flamboyant place, and I want to live in it! Haha.
Drazh Anviltamer |
Based on a thread I made about what to do with the 4 I rolled, I was given a concept that I rather like. Going to roll with it, think it will be fun (Low wisdom Chosen One Paladin with a Familiar who keeps him in check). Plus my original idea of the Oracle is something I’ve done before...
Aasimar Alternate SLA: 1d100 ⇒ 100 Roll on this table twice, ignoring any further rolls of 100.
Roll twice: 1d100 ⇒ 50 You gain an additional +2 racial bonus to your Wisdom score.
Roll twice: 1d100 ⇒ 4 Once per day, you can drink a flask of holy water to heal 1d6 hit points.
5
...and that makes it Wis6 instead of 4. Nice.
Gives me something to play with.

Low wisdom chosen one paladin with a familiar that keeps them on track? Definitely doesn't sound familiar at all... lol
Joking aside, I'm sure yours will be much different than Claire.

It isn’t lost on me! :D
But the idea is for the trait Scion of Legend. Part of his low wisdom is to hero worship Drazh, with completely unrealistic expectations of who he was. If Drazh survives through this campaign, the plan is to drop coin to pay bards to spread his name...with this Paladin taking it far too seriously. And the familiar using it to coerce the Paladin into not being an idiot.
Because it sounds hilarious to me to have Drazh he remembered as a warrior-poet, a scholar, a diplomat, and the epitome of all things virtuous.
The low wisdom will play a *big* factor in that. -2 Sense Motive and the naive drawback.
I’m pretty sold on the concept. Just playing around now, seeing if I can figure out how to make a throwing build work. :p
