A foul stench from the pustulent scurrying goblins catches up to them as you react to their approach. While you cast your spells and attack, the stench only intensifies, until you're left sick to your stomachs. Kargas, Flo and Guiness quickly acclimate to the aroma, but Colvyn and Kellek prove more sensitive. Both are sickened for 5 minutes

The putrid goblin creatures prove uncannily nimble. The green one ducks under a swing of Dragonfist and is struck only by the follow-up headbutt. Meanwhile Colvyn and Flo prepare themselves and the group for a serious fight.

The two ghouls from the west chamber rush forward to attack Kargas. Both swing their jagged claws at the bloodrager, but neither is able to make it past the magical barrier that protects him. Two MORE ghouls approach from the western cavern.

Hemmed in by enemies all around, Kargas laughs and invokes his spirit-powers. As the Thunderbird's blessing surges through him, the half-orc sends crackling electricity arcing across his falchion's blade as he slashes left and right. "Come on then you stinking fiends! I'll send you all back to whatever hellish pit you crawled out of!"

Kargas cleaves the skull of the blue goblin ghast, sending a surge of electricity into its body. It collapses in a smoking heap, wheezing as it dies. Green and yellow are caught in a gout of flames, and while yellow manages to shield itself from some of the charring, green is not so lucky. Both remain standing, however.

The green goblin ghast steps carefully after Kellek, pursuing the seemingly vulnerable wizard. Its claws and razor sharp teeth rebound over and over off the magical shield that Kellek had put up. The yellow goblin ghast thrashes its limbs at Flo, scoring her flesh with it teeth and claws. (Total 8 dmg)

Flo catches Kellek's eyes and something doesn't sit right in her stomach. That was a lot of fire and I bet there is more where that came from. Those eyes tell me he's going to unleash it, if we make it out of the way or not... "Regroup, let them come to us through the narrow tunnel!" she suggests as she begins to move away.

Oh no... After a few steps, she notices the telltale signs of someone willing their body to move but being incapable of doing so. "I've got you Colvyn, run!" Slowing her stride, she spins on her heel as she passes Guiness, pulls a scroll from her bag and it bursts into a holy shower of dandelion seeds. Gently floating through the air, they create an ethereal ripple, like a raindrop dashed against a still pond, when they touch the Ratfolk's fur. Looking at Kellek, she nods her head. If I get hurt so others don't have to, then so be it. Desna guides me.

Free from the effect, Colvyn tries to find a path to move out of the front line. He attacks one of the dead goblin, trying to carve himself a way out.

Guiness dispatches the green goblin ghast with a blow from Dragonfist, while the freshly freed Colvyn does the same with the yellow goblin ghast. With two nauseatingly nasty goblin creatures down, the air already seems fresher.

The ghouls to the north attempt to surround Kargas as best they can. They menace him with a flurry of claws and jaws, but he's able to keep them at bay for the most part. A single claw gets through both his heavy armor and his magical shield to slice a shallow cut in his upper arm. (Dealing 4 dmg)

As the ghouls press in Kargas backs into the tunnel to keep them at bay for a few precious moments. Whirling around, Kargas' falchion flashes in the dim light.

Kargas' attack lops off the head of the remaining goblin ghast, giving him exactly the room needed to step back and away from the massive fiery explosion. Said explosion engulfs all four ghouls, with only the yellow one managing to shield itself in any way from the inferno.

Even so, its reflexes can't save it. As the flames pass, all four ghouls lie as charred husks upon the ground.

Stylishly ending Combat!

Despite the explosions, Iesha continues to slash the door to the north end with her claws. She hisses out "Open up hussband. I know you're in there. You can't hide from me."

As I thought... He's gotten a lot more powerful over a short amount of time. Still, the matter of trusting him. Something about him just doesn't sit right... Flo takes a moment to take in the carnage before speaking.

"Is everyone ok? That was... impressive, Kellek," she admits before looking over at the Revenant. "In ten minutes, Desna can give me the means to put a decent gap in the rock wall Iesha is trying to cut through. The pick could work too though. Thoughts?"

Looks like no clear vote yet, but I'm seeing: Stone Shape a way through, Pickaxe the door down, or Wait for Iesha to manage. Any could work, but its up to you which you think is most advantageous.

Guiness looks over at the door and notices that while it's made primarily of stone, it has a brass handle and keyhole and is held by a hinge. Although Iesha has proven a single minded pursuer, it doesn't seem like she would be so boneheaded as to not try the door before trying to break it down - most likely the door is locked.

Kellek looks over the revenant's progress without getting too close, and takes a guess as to how long it will take the abomination to break through. Take 10 on knowledge (engineering(?)) for 18.

At Kellek’s exposition, Guiness nods. He dumps the items he grabbed before leaving the well room (maybe not everything, but at least what he quickly grabbed before they left that room) and asks, ”Anyone have a torch I can use?” he asks.

Guiness attempts a courtly bow, though he has never really tried it before, saying, "That will be all, milady."

Buoyed by his unexpected success, Guiness wraps the torch around the head of his hammer with a bit of rope and heads off towards the mold as the torch begins to smolder. Once the torch bursts into open flame, Guiness will use it to carefully clear the yellow mold (at arm + weapon haft length), eventually picking up the pick.

"Didn't Kellek say that stuff was flesh-eating?" Kargas looks askance at the fungal growths, then shrugs and give Guiness an encouraging pat on the shoulder as he follows Kellek back to the bat room--and its treasure.

Kellek judges that due to Iesha's supernatural undead strength, she'll be punching through that door in a matter of minutes rather than hours. That still leaves your team with enough time to go retrieve the discarded gear from rooms you previously sped through.

With the help of a burning torch, Guiness approaches the yellow mold patch with the intention of burning the hazardous fungus away. As he first touches it with the mass with the torch, it bursts into a large cloud of dangerous spores!

The touch of spores against skin is agonizing, but Guiness manages to avoid inhaling any of them as he works. And after the initial hazardous burst, the patch of yellow mold catches fire and burns away. You're able to recover the fine-looking pickaxe.

Kargas heads back to the well room and returns with a handful of items (As listed here). Kellek's analysis reveals that the pickaxe is a +1 heavy pick, the longsword and ring are nonmagical, and the knitted cap is a hat of disguise.

You recognize that the longsword is an incredible piece despite its simple appearance - it's made of the legendary material adamantine! The purchase price for such a piece would be around 3015 gp, and you could sell it for half that.

Guiness looks up at Colvyn’s question, responding, ”Aye, that seems as good a strategy as any.”. While the others are preparing, Guiness works on the pickaxe. He takes out the scarf they found in the room where Iesha was murdered and wraps it around the pickaxe, ending with a secure knot over the top of its head.

(Assuming no one stops him from this approach, he will continue as below. He is not trying to hide what he is doing, but he may not understand the implications of letting Iesha see the scarf...)

When Kellek reaches for the sword Kargas brushes his hand out of the way and grabs it instead. Giving it a few practice swings, the half-orc grins. "Rig would've loved this."

He wanders back in time to catch the back end of Colvyn's question. "I don't see why not. Ma always said 'If someone else is willing to stick their hand in the beehive, let them'. She seems pretty determined to get at him, so why get in her way?"

"AH! I'm so sorry Colvyn, I'll get on your wounds right away!" Flo says, her face reddening slightly. Gah, he had to ask for healing! How awful am I?

When it looks like Iesha is about to complete her task, she begins to lavish her friends with Desna's blessings.

"Guiness, wait! I think that specific piece of clothing might stop her from her goal, at least for a while!" she calls out when he approaches her with the pickaxe. I'm sure Kellek will jump right on that if I'm wrong, but we'd be on the back-foot if Iesha suddenly stopped breaking in.

Kellek's theme song

Thanks to Flo's warning, Guiness doesn't end up accidentally drawing Iesha's ire. (Good move Flo :>) Instead, you watch from the opposite side of the cavern as the revenant Iesha carves her way through enough of the door. Flo puts up a wave of magical blessings as Iesha switches strategies and starts punching the door near the handle.

Her balled fist punches through a thin layer of stone and dislocates as she twists it around to unlock the door from the other side. With a wild motion, she throws the remains of the door open. She hesitates for a moment, as though warring internally somehow, then stalks through the open doorway.

You follow after her, one by one.

The air in this damp cavern reeks of a horrific stench—a foul combination of decay, brine, and mold. The cave contains a rickety table, its damp surface cluttered with all manner of what appears to be garbage: empty bottles, bits of clothing, crumpled bits of paper, and more, lying in neatly organized rows. A painting leans against the far side of the table, facing a large leather chair that sits nearby. This chair’s high back and cushion are horribly stained by smears of rotten meat and its arms are sticky with blood. A smaller table sits against the southern wall, its surface heaped with plates and platters of rotten, maggot-infested meat. The horrific stench of the room seems strongest to the west, where the cave’s wall has been overtaken by a horrific growth of dark green mold and dripping
fungi.

Disturbingly, at the center of the dark green mold is a patch of black tumescent fungus that grows in ridges and tumorous bulbs into what looks like a humanoid outline reaching out from the wall. Right underneath the fungal form's outstretched "hand" lies an exquisite puzzle box, one that has been smashed and broken.

Sitting in the leather chair and facing directly toward the entrance is a figure both familiar and grotesque. Taut grey-green skin, pale while eyes, razor sharp teeth and clawed hands. And yet, the figure is still dressed in his tattered and bloody nobleman's finery, and he holds himself with a noble bearing as he sips from a glass of what might be wine. Aldern Foxglove.

Iesha stops her advance, heaving with anger. "Husssband." She cracks her claws. Aldern's eyes go wide. "Iesha? Is that you? Forgive me, but I've found another. One whose hair shimmers like the summer sky. Whose touch is like the caress of the waves. My delight. My true treasure. Who understands me like you never could."

As he extols the virtues of his love, Iesha has been steadily coming closer. When he comes within arm's reach, she extends a claw tenderly towards his cheek. She trembles. Oblivious, Aldern continues "Ah- I will not need you anymore. You may return to whatever grave I left you in. That would be best for both of us."

(This is probably a good place to halt for character reactions. Note that since both sides can see each other, if you move in to attack, we'll be jumping into combat rounds without any surprise rounds)

Halting abruptly in the doorway, Kargas stares about the room with open disgust. Slowly his gaze comes to rest on Aldern, his expressing shifting between horror and rising anger.

"Thunder's blood, Aldern, it really was you," Kargas grates out finally. "What in all the Hells happened to you? You were a poor hunter in the Tickwood but you weren't," he gestures vaguely at room, lost for words. "...whatever this is."

The blood drains from Flo's face, but she remains steady on her feet. "It was you! All this time!" she shouts at Aldern. After that vision... I knew. But I didn't want it to be true.

"All my pain, all the pain of those people you hurt, no, MURDERED! What happened to you? How could you think this was the best way forward? We saw glimpses of your past, your childhood was horrid, but this?! she exclaims, gesturing similarly to Kargas.

Her face starts taking on a soft, purplish hue. "What. Have. You. Done? WHY?!" she screams at the twisted figure of the Lord she once knew, a man kind and generous, a veritable Prince Charming.

Guiness stands mute, stunned by the outpouring of dismay by the ones betrayed by Aldern. To him, this is just another savage monster to be destroyed before it can murder again—to them it appears to have been a trusted friend who committed the ultimate betrayal.

Setting his jaw, Guiness prepares to attack, idly curious as to who will strike first—the murdered Iesha, or his betrayed companions.

Aldern's expression turns rapturous at Flo's entrance. "My love! My sweet Floredana!" When she throws out accusations and questions, he looks surprised. "Why? What do you mean why? I-" He pushes thin, dry lips together, a poor imitation of a child's innocent simper. His voice takes on a childlike quality "-I thought you'd like it. I made it all for you. You... you don't like my gift? But..."

His eyes go unfocused "But I-" The corners of his mouth twitch upward "I carved so many bodies for you. I worked so hard."

He snarls, surging to his feet "YOU UNGRATEFUL BIT-!" He's not able to finish his accusation. Forgotten until this moment, Iesha's claws rake deep across his chest. He howls in pain and anger, more bestial than human. He strikes her cheek with the back of his hand with enough force to send her staggering back and draws a long razor from his coat. His voice is low and gravely as he whispers

Flo sees the look in his wretched eyes. The one you can feel more than see, a wolf stalking a bunny. "Not today, you freak, these are your last moments on Golarion!"

Funneling a kaleidosope of butterflies over Guiness, she skips behind her allies to let the others in. "Kellek, your, um, larger spells might be too explosive in there. Just so you can prepare the right one, you know?" Damn it! That sounded accusatory, even to me, and he hasn't even done anything yet!

Aldern's eyes follow Flo as she backs out of the room. While there was a strange rationality in them before, now there is little more than hunger. He strikes out dismissively with his razor at Iesha, which she manages to block with a claw, then starts stalking after Flo. When he arrives into the reach of Guiness' weapons, he stops to look down upon the dwarf in his way.

A nauseating stench wafts over Guiness and Kargas, but the two of them manage to stand firm against the putrid smell.

As the blessing of Desna settles on him, Guiness steps to the side and nods to Kargas, saying, "Let's block him from Flo."

Swinging Dragonfist with a vengeance and then following up with a swift Steel Headbutt, Guiness attacks the vile creature responsible for so much death!

With Aldern trying to reach Floredana, Colvyn call forth on his divine magic to increase his martial prowess. He then raises his bow and sends two arrow flying. The first one hit the stone wall but the second is right on target.

Guiness, Kargas and Colvyn all deliver a brutal hail of attacks, with a hammer blow, falchion slash and single arrow getting past Aldern's guard. Aldern swings his long razor around wildly, but only manages to slice a shallow cut on Kargas (dealing 7 dmg). His attempts to bite and claw at Guiness can't get past the dwarf's defenses. He attempts to back off carefully.

Iesha lays into him as well with her claws, landing a weighty slash that carves a chunk of undead flesh out of his chest. He remains standing.

That works just fine, because it means that Aldern can't use that square either.

Wary of that mold on the wall, Guiness chooses instead to head south ten feet before attacking, leaving a spot for the fearsome Kargas to attack once more should he so desire (likely provoking an AOO--AC 23 versus evil). With a nod towards Iesha, Guiness swings his hammer in a powerful arc once more, trying to crush the foul creature's skull!
