So for those who don't know, Outpost II the play-by-post Pathfinder/Starfinder Society online convention is happening starting March 11th. I'm running a couple of things in it (as is Cellion, I think). There's still a lot of space open.
In case anyone is interested, I am running a Standard mode game of Oathbreaker's Die (Tier 1-5; File line 69; Stay on your toes in a River Kingdom town full of assassins) and a CORE mode game of What Prestige is Worth (Tier 7-11; File line 15; Where you get to adventure with and effect the story-line for the sassy leader of the Dark Archive, and by extension the faction itself).
The sign up sheet with all the link to the various games is HERE.
Kargas Stormscar |
I am at work and can't view the document right now, but I'd like to proffer my Lvl5 Phalanx Soldier for Oathbreaker's Die if you still have a spot open this afternoon.

Sure. Would that be Ean Rulnas? If so, consider him (mostly) added to the sheet (still need you PFS numbers).
Kargas Stormscar |
Yeah, I've never actually played him in a PBP before, he was my live-game character from when I was living in Germany. I'll get the PFS # and his chronicle sheets once I'm home again.

Colvyn, just realized that I assumed the CLW wand you purchased was for the group. Is that the case?No worries if not, the CLW spell I just cast on Brother Guiness will be a spontaneous cast from my prepared slots instead.
GM Cellion |
Alright! Links up at the top of the page are all updated and cleaned up. If anyone wants to set up a loot sheet to share with the group, go ahead and give me a link and I'll add it to the Campaign header so you guys can access it easily.
Brother_Guiness |
GM, did anyone at Paizo shed any light on what happened to Peet?
Kargas Stormscar |
What exactly are halfling supposed to be a half of?
Ha! So in the Forgotten Realms setting they call themselves "hin" and in their homeland of Lurien the term "halfling" is considered almost a slur and evidence that humans are self-centered.

Yep, the wand was bought for party use. So it is ok if you use it.
Next one is on you though.... ;)
Floredana Mandulescu |
Haha thanks, Colvyn, its deal!

Regarding marching order:
In general, Guiness will want to go at or near the front in threatening situations, especially once he has his shield and hammer again.
For Warchief Ripnugget, he will charge in at whomever has his hammer with extreme prejudice.
Rig Veda |
re: marching order, my guess is that Kargas and Guiness will usually argue about who's in front. Rig is fine being behind them. And I imagine Flo and Kellek will tend to bring up the rear. Colvyn is the tricky one. Being sneaky, he may want to take point and he'll likely be near the front anytime locks and traps are involved.
Feel free to correct/argue with me. Rig can also take the back if we need a rearguard
Floredana Mandulescu |
Not the front is where Flo wants to be! :D
EDIT: If we have any reason to believe that a room has enemies in it, Flo will use her wand of bless.
Kargas Stormscar |
Well right now since Guiness has a reach weapon he should be behind me; once he's got his gear back he can tank out front & Kargas can switch between ranseur and falchion depending on need/space constraints

Yes, with all the giant ambush predators.

...totally reasonable and rational, two things Guiness is definitely not right now. Just don’t get in between Guiness and whomever has his hammer...

Guiness would miss Kargas if he rolled too low on the d20... ;o)

It occurs to me that we haven't talked about it in like three months, but we think Tsuto's demony girlfriend from the diary is connected to this right? The glassworks had goblins, and Tsuto, and we already knew that the local goblin tribes were being united by a new boss, and there was a demon in the glasswork's dungeon. Seem's sensible right?
Just making sure I'm not out over my skis here lol
Brother_Guiness |
Are the partial squares along the west and north walls valid for occupation by PC’s?
Brother_Guiness |
Kellek rushes into the room throwing a handful of colorful dust before him at the assembled goblins. "B'Dasle!"
Color spray + one arcane pool pt. (Will DC 16).
Love the spell names by the way! Bedazzler for Color Spray and Lawn Darts for Magic Missiles...

Seemed a bit more fitting than WHAM (with George Michaels--the original verbal component). That and I can think of better uses for WHAM.

Alright, so in cases where you guys are about to open a door and there's no clear arrangement on your side (you haven't yet arrayed yourselves on the map or described it in a post), I'll assume the following:
Front line - Kargas, Guiness
Mid line - Rig, Colvyn
Back line - Flo, Kellek
@Flo: I won't assume you use your wand of bless - partially because it should rely on *you* deciding if you think there are enemies on the other side, partially because you need to use a command word (may not be desirable when you guys are trying to be stealthy), and partially because I'm totally going to forget all the time.
@Kellek: Low level casters in PF1E are frustratingly flash-in-the-pan. Pop your three spells and take a nap for the rest of the session. :/
Too bad this isn't a PF2E game so you can keep going all day with cantrips :>
Floredana Mandulescu |
Ok, GM! Fine by me (formation and wand usage).

Yeah! Because wizards were so underpowered before. ;) I have to say though that I was not terribly impressed with the Playtest version of the new 'simpler' 'streamlined' Pathfinder.

Back to Kellek's favorite subject--Kellek!
Anyhow I could have made him more blastery (given him a school that has an Int+3/day zap power or spent a bunch of dough on a wand), but I wanted to try and play him as perhaps more skillful, and Swiss Army tool-like than blastery at this level (though I like the power his arcane reservoir imparts his casting). He's not really going to be much good for long periods of time--as is traditional for magic-users--until about 5th level--when he has more than 3 1st level spells to rub together and about twice as many scrolls. I don't mind waiting for the lightning and fire. Half the fun of old timey wizards was seeing if they could survive long enough to be called old timey wizards.
Still, color spray, and his scroll box still has a number of useful scrolls.
Kargas Stormscar |
The Color Spray was really handy! Two enemies down, including the mount and Ripnugget might have been an unholy terror with his gecko under him.
Kargas could also be persuaded to help Kellek buy some scrolls or other assets to help him (and thus, Kargas) stay in the fight longer.

Color Spray is (in my humble opinion) about the best sweeper spell anyone can get at low-levels. I remember picking Kellek's spells and hesitating over taking it because I play a fair number of illusionists/illusion-focused sorcerers and most of them lean on it pretty heavily.
Kargas could also be persuaded to help Kellek buy some scrolls or other assets to help him (and thus, Kargas) stay in the fight longer.
Kellek still has a few scrolls and potions available that could come in handy for the more combative types in the party. Have a look.
Floredana Mandulescu |
Rig, that was from the wand. Since we are also on the look out for a demon priestess, I figured keeping my spell slots was worth the point of healing here.

I almost sprayed milk all over my laptop Kargas, so thank you for that. I can just imagine Kargas coming back to consciousness, seeing exactly what he saw when he went down, and being like FFFFF.... XD
Kellek Zaderan |
@Kellek: I've always used these two shapes to define what a 15ft cone can do, depending on whether you cast it from a side or from a corner. In this case you can't 5ft step to 1 to cast directly south (pillar in the way). So 2 it is! If this had a Reflex save, the pillar would give your victims cover from the burst, but it's Will, so there are no issues.
That's fine. Though I don't think they would get cover given area of effect is coming off of Kellek's corner (see map) and he is literally abutting the source of his cover so if we're using ranged attack line rules he clear. There are just a couple he can't get within the spell's area.
I always use those areas too. I'm just saying that because the attack originates from one of the intersections of the caster's square (as per area of effect rules) that the diagram could look like this (red dot= caster black dot the area's origin point) otherwise the diagrams below (where 60' cones only come out of a persons' right hand and lines only emerge from their right) don't make much sense.
Torches (a pet peeve of mine) are supposed to have a 20' radius of effect as they emanate from a corner of the holder's space not from its center, which would make them 22.5' radius areas. Likewise auras don't really fit the rules as written because you have to assume the person with the aura is always a bit off-center from their space to make it work right.
Anyway, thank Cayden that Paizo is making a way easier more streamlined less rules-intensive game that makes total sense and allows for more role-play and less chess-playing. (That's meant to be a sneer based on my interaction with Playtest in it's earliest form, but since Kellek has my copy of Miss Prompt's pamphlet I am allowed. ;))
Brother_Guiness |
For Guiness, level 3 brings more hit points, a slight improvement in saves, and the benefits from a slightly higher base attack bonus. Given his propensity to hit things with his Dwarven Boulder Helmet and the Armor Training he gets at "Fighter 3", he has taken for his 3rd level feat "Advanced Armor Training: Steel Headbutt", which allows him to use his helmet to attack as a secondary weapon when making a full attack (rules show attacks at -5, does d4 + half Strength modifier damage). His skills are rounding out a bit, as he took a rank in Knowledge/Religion and Swim.
Rig Veda |
Rig@3 gets 6HP, +1 BAB & Fort. I've been thinking of taking weapon focus: longsword so he can go for dazzling display @5th. He gets another cantrip and 1st lvl spell (I'm thinking message and maybe vanish?). He's not much of the bookish type, so I'm not investing in knowledge skills this level. His social skills will all go up, including a point in sense motive so he's not so terrible at it, and a few auxiliary skills (stealth, perception, climb, acrobatics). And of course perform. Oh and I can now inspire competence (+2 to out of combat skills)
If anyone wants to offer suggestions as to some obvious spell or feat I'm missing, I'm all ears
Floredana Mandulescu |
Yay level up! :D
Questions: At what point do our new spells/channels/etc. become usable? Does anything return to full as a result of leveling up? I've one channel left. Will this one be at the new 2d6 value or the old 1d6 value? How are we doing HP?
Depending on the answers to the above, is anyone interested in a rest? I am, but we do have a wand for healing and I still have some resources left. We could try to clear what's on this level before we go further?
GM Cellion |
@Rig and Guiness: Looks good!
@Flo: You have new spell slots, so if you're spontaneous you can use the new ones immediately. If you're prepared you have to spend the hour to fill all the new ones. All your new channels and such are available, and all existing resources have their 3rd level potency (so 2d6 for a channel). Otherwise, none of the resources (spells, abilities, etc) reset with the level up - you guys will have to take a rest to get fully refreshed.
I think I mentioned it when you guys were rebuilding characters, but we'll be doing class average rounded up for HP on level up.
Kargas Stormscar |
FCB: +1hp
+6hp, +2 for Con
+1 BAB, +2 rounds of rage
Raging Vitality feat
Skill Points:
- Acrobatics

Are we still using Background Skills? If so I'd like to add a point to Lore for giants, or dragons, or some other creature that would be impressive to kill per Kargas' backstory.
@Group: Do we want to press on? I think I used up all my Rage rounds in those two fights, but now have 2 fresh rounds from leveling up. I've got one more fight in me for the day, what does everyone else think?
