While you may be correct by RAW, I do not intent to use this table. It makes little sense to me and will continue to use the old ways. A 1 hd goblin is evil and can be detected as such. Rule O. There are too many 1-4 level goblins in this place to allow this to be none. Call it the "Force of Orcus" or DM Caviat.

As Elathras is watching Virgil pick the lock, he forgets about the Goblins and takes a well placed arrow to the shoulder, Lifting his shield too late, he calls out "watch out, some one kill them please!" He then places himself between Virgil and the archers and lifts his shield in the direction of the attackers, attempting to ward off any more arrows, then tells the team "everyone else stay under the gatehouse till we get this open and try to distract the goblins!"
so full defense with the shield makes his armor 24 right?

Elathras standing holding his gnoll shield high and trying to protect himself and Virgil, blood pouring from his shoulder where the goblin arrow is sticking out and some green goo running down his leg burning. He looks at Virgil and rolls his eyes he says in a stern voice, "Then remove the trap or trip it, it can't be worse than being rained on by arrows and acid, I have no intention of dying at the hand of goblins"

"would you cut this arrow out, its impeding my movement"
