There are three pictures on the nightstand, each of which is a charcoal
sketch of a different woman’s face.

"Look over in the center of the wall! A secret door. But it does detect magic, so there might be traps over there. Boys, be careful," he advises the three trap specialists.
Elathras Narcinal
Elathras shrugs and says "here we go Virgil" and opens the secret door and looks around.

The contents of the secret room are: (1) an earthenware jar containing five golden rings each with the inscription “To my one and only,” worth 50 gp each; (2) a silver-headed light mace (100 gp), (3) a leather bag containing 500 gp, (4) an earring with an obsidian sphere dangling from it, inscribed with the words “Rappan Athuk,” (5) three red scrolls tied together with a parchment note that reads, “Jossel, if you plan on continuing your activities with the young ladies of the various villages where you are assigned, the High Priest suggests that you might need these.”
Kaztor Strongforge
Kaz laughs heartily at the note. "Bet these are for curing diseases," he roared. "Hopefully your nose is the only thing that can fall off and nothing more important!"
Elathras Narcinal
as Elathras roots through the stuff they have found he holds up the silver headed light mace and asks Norwood, "hey Norwood do you want to carry this? It might be light enough you can use it."
Elathras Narcinal
Elathras nods in agreement "Yes Kaz nice job" turning back to Virgil he asks "Lets return to the room with the steps and the ooze 23 and go in the hall to the north." Then Elathras heads back the way they came and turning north through the door and up toward the room with the stairs he opens the door into the hallway and looks around carfully.

"Stay away from the ooze everyone, it doesn't like noses" Elathras enters the hallway keeping a keen eye out. Seeing the door ahead, he inspects the door for locks and traps if clear he opens the door and looks inside.

Kaz instinctively puts his had over his nose as the group rushes by the ooze!

There is a pool of Pestilence in the center of this room. The room contains a shelf with ten large, leather-bound books on it, as well as several copying tables. There is also a locked cabinet bolted to the north wall. At the north end of the room’s west wall, there is a bas-relief carving of a left hand.
brvheart
You can get in the doorway, but that is about all. The pool is about 12-15' from the entrance and flows out to the right.
Elathras Narcinal
shutting the door behind him Elathras returns to the team. "There is ooze and well as hand-mural on the other side with some books, we can try to use wall mural to get there or we can go some place else." Elathras continues walking, and wanting to get away from the ooze, continues to walk up the stairs. "Lets to up stairs and try one of the other stairways and see if they bring us here also." he decides. Walking up the steps he keeps a keen eye out to identify where they are at.

I am afraid they weigh over 5 lbs each. Books were heavy before the invention of the printing press and movable type! Then have more fun and actually try and read them!
Medievak books
brvheart
As books were rare, most do have some value, however. These no exception.
brvheart
Most of the books are beyond Gruk's range in the northern half of the room, some even beyond 40'. You might get a couple.
Elathras Narcinal
So how many books did they get in total?
Stopping at the edge of the step, Elathras watches slack jawed as Irenicus opens the door and he and Wdrozgruk begin to levitate the books from the shelf into the room they are in. Elathras begins to point and giggle, having forgotten his barbaric fear of magic. "Look Virgil they make the books float!" When the magic show is over Elathras turns and continues upstairs.

The party is now upstairs
As you walk into the room you seem to be walking through a painting on the south wall. The north wall of this room is a mosaic that depicts the characters themselves moving inside the room, as if it were a mirror. The south wall is painted, and the painting, like the mosaic, depicts the characters. The pictures in the mosaic and in the painting move as the characters move about in the room. The north-wall mosaic shows a treasure chest sitting on the floor against the south wall.
Elathras Narcinal
well that's odd, who painted paintings of us, Norwood just joined us they must paint really fast. Elathras scratches his head "Well that's really odd! Virgil, Do you remember anyone painting our portrait?" Elathras reaches up and pulls his scarf down, to see if the Elathras in the painting has a full nose or not, disappointed he adds "Darn, I wish they had painted it before I lost my nose, I was better looking then." Shrugging his shoulders he begins to look around the room carefully. He checks out the south wall, the north wall and the door for locks and traps.
if I am checking too much to fast let me know

In the picture on the south wall is a treasure chest, but you do not see it in the room.
Wdrozgrúk
"This is a very strange room. Like so many things here. We probably shouldn't touch the walls just yet. Obviously magical. It wouldn't hurt to know what kind of magic, though."
Gruk will cast Detect Magic at the walls to try and get some idea of what kind of magic we're dealing with this time.

Know arcana: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (5) + 11 = 16
He then uses his detection to see if the chest is hidden by magic. If not, he motions for Elathras to check where it should be and watches what happens on the mosaic.

Norwood search the chest for trap and open it.

There is no chest Norwood. It is only in the painting. You detect magic from the south wall, but are unable to identify it.
