My Starfinder game

Ok, I opened a discussion thread for Starfinder. Those that want to try it, you are welcome to head over there.

Today is the day! Starfinder is officially released!!

I'm looking to see if there is any online ressource for the rules.

FYI, I'm currently in the process of moving to a new house.

I've currently been able to keep up with posting for the most part, but there's always the possibility that this could slip; please bot me if needed. Specifically, my internet service is being transferred tomorrow (Sat 19 Aug). This is the riskiest part of my move as regards these PbP games; if I disappear tomorrow, know that I'll be trying desperately hard to get things back in order so that I can play again ASAP. (Hopefully, everything is seamless and you never notice any interruption to my posting.)

Moving far, or just changing neighborhoods? Tomorrow I finally start my vacation time... though it's more a staycation, but there is a high chance that I will do nothing all day tomorrow. Just me, some light music and a good book. At least that's the plan...

Local move: NE side of the city to SW; about a 15 minute drive. Becoming a homeowner instead of a renter. :)

Congrats, I still remember what it felt when I walk in my house for the first time. Worst. Mistake. Ever!!!

Just kidding. ;)

The place will feel big and spacious for a while and then, 10 years down the road, you will look at it and say: Where did I get all that stuff?

As a side note, I notice that no one made a post in my Starfinder discussion thread... :(

I know that the rules aren't online yet, but we can always start planing the group, and I have the pdf on my phone, so I can help with the rule questions.

I'm still on the fence about Starfinder. Having an SRD online is going to be key for me. Another thought occurred to me; am I going to have to purchase Starfinder data packages for HeroLab now, too?

I don't know if I'm prepared to double my gaming expenses just so I can run around in space. :)

I don't use Herolab. I make my own character sheet with Excel. Trying to put one together in Starfinder right now.

I haven't seen the official announcement, but multiple people have mentioned on the forums that there is supposed to an online version soon after Gen Con. Worst case, the pfd is only 9.99$, less if you are a pathfinder subscriber.

lol! My brother is also currently in Myrtle beach on vacation.

As for me, I've just spent most of the day at the Montreal Planetarium and then at the city's arena where I live for my daughter Ringette practice. So now I will head to the gameplay thread and make a post!

Roger that. For some reason I seemed to beleive Vrood would have the heart. Of course it might be stored or hidden in the tower.

If it ease your feeling, he did have it not long ago...

Here is the loot from the final fight. Also, you can good ahead and level up to level 9!

With a take 10, Tolvan can identify all the way to a DC30 (+10 with identify), so to save time, everything that is caster level 25 and less is already identify.

Undead Monk:

a clay pot of marvelous pigments
belt of giant strength +2

Vrood:

lesser silent metamagic rod
wand of animate dead (10 charges)
+1 quarterstaff
amulet of natural armor +1
cloak of resistance +2
ring of protection +1
spellbook
spell component pouch
Whispering Way amulet

Found in the room + locked chest:

50 pounds of silver dust (worth 250 gp)
2,000 gp worth of onyx gemstones
a scroll of control undead in a plain leather scroll case
A macabre poem
Several pages of cryptic notes (Linguistic DC 30)

Also, don't forget this post

Hmm. It looks like the only thing you did not identify was the Whispering Way amulet and the spellbook. With time and read magic I am not sure I need to roll for the spell book but will. Taking 10, gives Tolvan a 29. If that is not sufficient...

Spellcraft, Whispering Way amulet: 1d20 + 19 ⇒ (6) + 19 = 25
Spellcraft, Spellbook? : 1d20 + 19 ⇒ (5) + 19 = 24

No dice love here.

The Whispering Way amulet isn't magical. It's just an amulet.

For the Spellbook, I'll give you the list soon. It was late when I did that last post.

Thoughts on loot:

a clay pot of marvelous pigments - sells for 2k. Handy and fun. Maybe keep this?

belt of giant strength +2: Ananias has one. Danica might should take it but she would have to give up her current belt. Anna could wear it for now but wants a Dex item. I'd like to see Danica wear it to increase her damage output.

lesser silent metamagic rod - Tolvan would like this BUT I think its more useful for the party for Kimberly to have it.

wand of animate dead (10 charges) Up for discussion. Tolvan would take it and use it without guilt. 4th level spell and with 10 charges would sell for 2100 gp. He would feel more guilty about selling it as then he would not know how it was used. This can only make skeletons and zombies but can make some big ones if used on dead giants, dragons, etc. OOC I'd be fine selling it. IC would anyone object if Tolvan used it?

+1 quarterstaff - sell it.

amulet of natural armor +1: Tolvan could use it but is not melee so melee get first pick.

cloak of resistance +2: Tolvan has one.

ring of protection +1 : Tolvan could use it but is not melee so melee get first pick.

spellbook: This will become Tolvan's unless its cursed. Likely a lot of necromancy spells that he currently would not use much. BUT note that at 10th level Tolvan can remove one of his two opposition schools so could pick up necromancy. Unsure. The other opposition school
is Illusion.

spell component pouch -Good to have an extra so Tolvan will take it. I have heard of spell component pouches being sundered. I am sure OUR GM would never do such a thing. :)

Whispering Way amulet: Hang on to this. Let Anna keep it in case she has to pretend to play for the other team.

50 pounds of silver dust (worth 250 gp) - Kimberly, do you need any of this? Tolvan does not.

2,000 gp worth of onyx gemstones; Will sell for full price. Tolvan should not need any even if he is using that wand to animate dead as material components are included in making wands.

a scroll of control undead in a plain leather scroll case: Tolvan will take this. Its actually a handy thing for a wizard to have as there is no save vs unintelligent undead. Storm Giant Zombie? no save. Huge Dragon Skeleton? It now works or us. No save.

If the belt could get switched one-for-one for a belt of dex, we're in a good spot, but I'm also good with Danica getting it. I'd still really like a belt of dex, since I didn't get a bump to my BAB this level, so going up in my Dex will keep me on the curve.

Tolvan, I remember you asking if you wanted us to have you make some items. Do you have that ability? I have a special item in mind that I'd like to get at some point.

My take:
Metamagic rod -- Kimberly
Wand -- Anna will be squeamish, but will probably go along with Tolvan.
Quarterstaff -- can't sell it fast enough.
Amulet -- don't really care. I've got a slot open, I think.
Cloak -- I've got a cloak already Give to Ananais?
Ring -- I've got one already. Ananais?
WW amulet -- I don't know what happened to the one we got from the goblin, but I'll take this one just in case.
Scroll -- keep, goes to Tolvan (though I have UMD, fyi)
Sell everything else unless there's a use for it.

Tolvan at one time had Craft Wondrous Item but a previous GM encouraged me to trade out of it as he did not like/want to deal with item creation. It can skew character wealth pretty seriously.

I do not recall when we sold stuff last but I am pretty sure we have not sold or divided up look while at this place so we should have loot from the entire town. I hope we have enough of a split so you can buy the dex belt Anna. Tolvan would be happy to loan you some gold if not.

Now, who has time to go back and compile a found treasure list?

I'll see if I have the time this weekend to do that.

I'm also rethinking my 9th level feat. I'm still grabbing Extra Talent, but I'm not going with Bleeding Attack. I feel that most combats in Pathfinder end too quickly for it to see that much use. Instead, I'll be going with Major Magic (which gives me a first-level spell). Unchained Rogue gets to use the spell once for every two Rogue levels, so 4/day isn't too shabby.

So the question is, what to take? My current ideas are: shield for great defense, but kind of boring; shocking grasp for massive 10d6 electrical sneak attacks; or icicle dagger for a sneaky weapon that deals extra cold and in a couple levels lets me throw it and it'll come back.

Thoughts? Any other great spells for a rogue that I'm missing? (My ring kind of makes vanish superfluous.)

I am always tempted to get Bleeding Attack too. But do not for the reasons you quote.

As boring as it seems Shield likely cannot be beat. I'd mention Vanish but you have your ring.

If you are not set on Major Magic I really like Trap Spotter. Its a must for any rogue I build.

I still need to level up Ananias. One encounter then go 'ding!' I like it. :)

My thoughts on equipment:
Wand -- I suspect Kimberly would object (Pharasma bitterly opposes the mere existence of undead; creating more is bad juju); Ananias has Kimberly's back on this
Amulet -- Ananias would benefit from this, slot is open
Cloak -- This would upgrade Ananias' +1 cloak
Ring -- Ananias has a Knight-Inheritor's ring, which is this and more
Scroll -- Less onerous to a Pharasman than creating new undead, still borderline though

I was thinking you had to be Life in order to channel but there are a lot of mysteries now and i am not familiar with them all.

So thinking more tactically and from a power standpoint and not thematically about who Kimberly is and her background here are two Life Revelatios that I like a lot:

Life Link is almost as important as Chanel in my book, but can get you killed as you cannot drop links if you go down. Still its a great ability

I like Energy Body too but mostly for its immunity benefits. Elemental subtype rocks

Thanks! A lot of good necromancy in this book. :)

Can't wait for you to use the Create undead one... ;)

@Kimberly: energy body revelation: That looks like a good one.

@Anna: Good job on getting all the loot in one post.
- Gem sells for full value.
- The wooden holy symbol are worthless
- The silver holy symbol are 12 gp
- bottle of potent alcohol sell for 15 gp
- rusted thieves tools are worthless
- While the blade of the rusted dagger is worthless, the pummel would sell for 75 gp.
- The rest sell for the standard 50% value.

Thanks for the homework Anna. Appreciated!

Tolvan, if left to his own sensibilities would have no qualms creating undead that he could control. He could totally rationalize that they are really nothing more than constructs (Awakened constructs if intelligent) and how they were used would determine if ultimately they were good or evil. BUT he is not alone. He understands Pharasmans quite well and besides is friends with Kimberly. So no animating or creating undead. In fact he will give that wand to Kimberly to destroy.

Yet down the road he may rationalize casting necromantic spells as simply tools to accomplish his goals.

**: Level 12

***: Level 7

Found on Duristan:
Potion of cure moderate wounds, 20 silver arrows; +1 studded leather, +1 light steel shield, +1 composite longbow (+2 Str) with 20 arrows, +1 silver longsword, 158 gp

Found with the Demon Wolves and their leader:
Breastplate +1 x4
Falchion +1 x4
wooden holy symbol x4
Leader
Breastplate +2
Bastard sword +1
silver holy symbol

Found on the first Whisperer cultist (who we left in the bushes tied up):
Sythe +1, Breastplate +1, pearl of power (1st level), potion of cure moderation wounds

Four bottles of potent alcohol, rusted thieves tools and a ornate but rusted dagger from the tavern

Apothecary:
four vials antitoxin, dust of appearance, and restorative ointment

Second Cultist:
cure serious wounds, three vials of unholy water, a magical breastplate (+1), a magical Mithral scythe (+1), onyxes (worth 450gp) and her unholy symbol.

1489 gp

110 sp

6 +1 Breastplates = 3600 gp
1 +2 Breastplate = 2100 gp
4 +1 Falchions = 4150 gp
1 +1 Scythe = 1009 gp
1 +1 Mithral Scythe=3509 gp
1 +1 comp. long bow=1150 gp
1 +1 Bastard sword= 1017.5 gp
1 +1 silver longswd=1052.5 gp
1 +1 lt. shield = 504.5 gp
1 +1 stud. leather= 512.5 gp

Total of ...........20,094 -- a little more than 4,018 apiece.

My thoughts, we keep:
the alcohol
20 arrows
20 silver arrows
pearl of power
3 potions of cure moderate wounds
2 scrolls of cure moderate wounds
4 vials antitoxin
dust of appearance
restorative ointment

Does anyone want the +2 breastplate? It's the single most valuable item along with the mithral scythe (which I'm not sure anyone wants). You'll have to run the numbers again if someone wants to claim something from the loot list.

Anna, can you add the loot from the final fight to this. Also we need to go back and visit the ghost with Vrood's head iirc. Maybe a reward other than putting souls to rest?

Undead Monk:

a clay pot of marvelous pigments
belt of giant strength +2

Vrood:

lesser silent metamagic rod
wand of animate dead (10 charges)
+1 quarterstaff
amulet of natural armor +1
cloak of resistance +2
ring of protection +1
spellbook - Tolvan is claiming
spell component pouch
Whispering Way amulet

Found in the room + locked chest:

50 pounds of silver dust (worth 250 gp)
2,000 gp worth of onyx gemstones
a scroll of control undead in a plain leather scroll case - Tolvan is claiming
A macabre poem
Several pages of cryptic notes (Linguistic DC 30)

I think we need to sell the wand regardless of whether we're afraid someone will use it.
Animate dead has a material component of 25 gp per Hit Die of the undead being created, but is capped at 4 hit dice per level. Vrood is an arcane spellcaster, so it's a 4th level arcane spell. The lowest caster level would be 7th for the wand.

25gp x 4hd x 7cl x 50 charges + 21,000 for the wand itself = 56,000 for a full wand. 10 charges is 1/5 of the wand, meaning that little stick is worth 11,200 gp!

Sell it! You always take the money!

33,344 split 5 ways is 6,668 gp and 8 sp.

That is a lot of money. Perhaps Tolvan would forget to mention to Kimberly exactly what the wand is.???

Crap... forgot the 50% resale on the friggin wand. So we're actually at 5,588 gp and 8 sp.

Rannik, we're kind of jumping ahead, but what's the word on an even trade for the belt of dex?
