I haven't left! I've been busy this holiday season, and I just haven't gotten around to posting the recruitment for another DM. I did shoot off a pm to Mug just in case he's still around and checking.

I'm thinking that we should make the push for another DM sometime after the holidays, since it's a really busy time for a lot of folks. But as long as I'm on these boards (with nothing taking me off in the foreseeable future), I'm up to keeping this game going.

I had possible GM. He was a great GM who dropped a different game a year or so back and had just come back to the boards. He was actually looking for a game or two to take over but told he he did not own this AP and so was reluctant. I'd buy it for him if he would commit to picking the game up. I have not heard back from him.

Also, about character creations. I see the one that Mug posted in the recruitment thread. Was there any mods done afterwards with the change of GM? I'm asking because I like using the background skill rule. If you guys want, you could reformat your skills to add those. Just make sure you separate them from the adventure skills on your sheet. Of course, it has to be a unanimous decision. Can't have half the group doing and the other half not.

Anna's total: 23,260.6, plus the value of the ring of invisibility -- which is limited to 3/day for 5 minutes per use. Not sure what the value of the ring should be, but if it's around 10,000 gp, then I'm about exactly right where I need to be.

Also, there was a moment after the Trial of the Beast that A.A. gave us some coin to spend -- sort of a means to kick up our WBL and show that he was toying with us. While we weren't supposed to go over our WBL with gear, I got approval from GM Mug to essentially waste the remaining gold on a massive shopping spree throughout Lepidstadt. So that's why Anna has a carriage, servants, a huge wardrobe of expensive fabrics, crates of expensive booze, makeups and perfumes and such. But most of that stuff's been left at Ascanor Lodge, so it will remain to be seen if she's able to return and reclaim it. But that's all for flavor and personality than any real game effect.

I got switched to the Unchained Rogue at some point. Also, thanks to some sort of dream sequence with Desna, as thanks for cleaning up and reconsecrating her temple, we each got a +1 boon to either Wisdom or Charisma. So there's that.

As for Background skills, I'm in the process of reworking them.

I'll probably max-out my Perform (wind instrument) and re-allocate my skills that I had used for Sleight of Hand into something else. Probably Climb and Swim.

Tolvan's wealth is greater than that. He is sitting at around 60k. But much of that (40K) is in a couple items that the group has found. We have not had the chance to sell items in a while. I suspect at least the wand will be sold.

1) Wand of hold monster with 44 charges. Actual value is 18480. But as any caster player should know a wand with a save or suck spell is sub optimal. DC would be 16 I think (10 + 4 for level + 2 for minimum caster stat of 14). Not great. If Tolvan cast it the DC would be 20.

2) Staff of Swarming Insects. Value is 22k. Cool item. Had it for a while. Found it last book in a gate house I think. So far used it once. Summoned Swarms can't be controlled and are hardly a threat at 8th level and Insect Plagues are stationary and so are more like a wall or terrain. Nice to have but hardly a game breaker.

Anna, don't you also have a wand of Acid Arrow?

I am in favor of Background skills. No down side that I can think of except for reworking the character sheet. Well worth it so everyone can have an extra 16 skill points. What's not to love.

The dream thing was in the book. We had to first find some instructions to summon some Desna aspect, then cleanse the temple then do the summoning. We gained a cool dream with a premonition of threats to come and then got that boon. Tolvan is a Desna worshiper. Has been from the start. Not sure that figured in or not. Might have made the summoning easier.

36% of the gameplay thread done. I like what happend with the departure of Pyotr and Kimgald.

I've sent a email to gain control as GM. I hope to have an answer somewhere next week. It won't stop me from restarting the game on Monday.

I've also set up what I use for maps. Right Here! Make sure the link work for you and that you can move your pictures around. Also, there is a blank page under the current map. If someone can paste a screenshoot of your current map for the battle, that would be nice. I don't feel like making a roll20 acount just for getting that.

I agree that those aren't the most game changer for their value. But on your sheet I see a wand of charm monster, not hold monster.

You are right. It is charm monster. Never used it. I rather like having the staff. It did come in handy fighting the hangman tree.

Hearing about you reading through the gameplay thread makes me want to do re-read it myself. It has been a fine game.

Yeah, the stuff with Pyotr and the seance with Kimgald still remain at the apex of pbp gaming for me. I'm pretty sure that none of that was written in the AP, but Mug put that in seamlessly. It felt personal, rather than just a plug-and-play adventure for generic audiences.

hey all, I am good with background skills.

about Kimberly, she is kind of unique. I have the young template but she really isn't so young.

she has racial heritage Samsaran and is a reincarnated oracle. thus the has a young looking size and appearance but has the experience of a few reincarnations.

My gear value is: 18,238gp and ready cash is 1,266gp for a total: 19,504 gp


About 25k gp for Anna, 19.5K for Kimberly and 60K for Tolvan. Someone seems to be hogging all the loot. ;)

The reading is going well. I'm currently on page 144 of 156. I might be able to finish the reading tonight.

However, I see a lot of confusion during battle. This is seen to create frustration and slow down the action a lot. What could I do to make sure this doesn't become a problem again?

Also, I'm looking at the map and the description of the battle and I see a few things that don't add up. On the map Danica is far outside the building, but the description of the battle tells me she in melee. So I took the liberty of replacing you in what I found, seem closer to the narrative of the battle. Correct me if I got anything wrong.

Lastly, for now, Tolvan, I see on your character sheet the spell Infernal healing . Oh, how I hate this spell and all the discussion and problem because of the [evil] tag to it. So, if everyone is ok with this, I'm changing it. The mechanic stay the same. Grant fast healing 1 for 10 rounds. But I'm kicking the evil part of it out. No [evil] tag, no "detects as evil for 1 minute". You can change the name to something else; Lesser vigor, Fast healing... Whatever, just not Infernal Healing.

I think the only time we had a real issue of confusion in combat was with the Hangman Tree. Its powers to attack you but make you think everything is fine was pretty strange. That was the one battle that stood out. I think we are past that and do not expect further issues.

Infernal Healing - I get your point. There is actually an angelic version now. I forget the source. I'd be ok just dropping it. Its not cast that often and I suspect both Theopolis and Kimberly would prefer Infernal healing never be cast on them. So go with Angelic, or natural, or drop the spell ?

I have added background skills. The addition added to my total skill ranks but I had to drop my knowledge History a little as I had too many points in background skills.


Well, you can use adventuring skill points to increase background skills, but not the other way around.

For the spell, I'll leave the name change to you. You don't have to drop the spell, just modify it. I just want to avoid any discussion about why a good aligned elf would use an evil spell. And how many casting can you do before it changes your alignment.

I've been rereading the gameplay thread as well and noticed that too -- and for whatever reason it really seemed bunched up around there. I wish those questions had been taken to the discussion page, but waaay too late now.

I think there was also some confusion about the lycanthropy -- Old Guy had taken some liberties with the rules and gave us something like a ticking clock to add more tension. I actually had no problems with the rule changes, although I think there was some confusion over the rules would play out long-term. Then Shady gave us an out on that end (but then we had the weird tree fight).

I really don't want there to be any misgivings, and I really hope that reading through our game thread was entertaining and gives you the excitement needed to pick it up and run. Hit us up here, or PM us, and we'll work with you to make sure that we're all on the same page and running smooth combats.

Ah, I did not know that. I'll make one more adjustment because I did want Tolvan to be good at Knowledge History. :)

And I will change the spell to "Arcane" healing. For what its worth Tolvan's attitude about the spell was "magic is a tool and the end justifies the means. If a devil or two has to bleed so I can heal my friends what is the true harm,?" But I get your point.

I also made a spreadsheet of NPCs you have encounter and where they are now. If I have missed anyone feel free to tell me. I also added in the previous players.

With all that, I will be able to restart on Monday. Just need everyone confirmation that your character sheet is up to date with the background skills.
