Petronicus is unable to detect any magical emanations from anything in the room, beyond what the party brought in with them.
The cobra is made of darkwood, and may have some value.
It appears that the lumps under the slippery orange scum are bits of some sort of meat.
The passage to the south has collapsed a short distance away, and the one to the east turns north after a short distance.
DM Rambler
The north passage leads to a large room which contains an open area to the south next to a raised dais and a passageway leading east. Further north, the floor drops away into a wide pit along the back wall. Between the open area and the pit, several strands of a thick, glue-like substance stretch from floor-to-ceiling and wall-to-wall, creating a maze of ropes to navigate.

"Gentlemen, I have a bad feeling about this, and a worse feeling about what I'm going to say. I have been pondering Silam's words ..."
Haer Kul deepens his voice and affects a bumpkin accent:
"... I took the people downstairs where he told me. I saw the hall and the wet room and the tomb. I took people to the tomb. ... I think the Master lives behind the glow." (link)
"I don't think Silam came through the glow. So I think the tomb is down the passageway we did not explore. If the prisoners are still alive, we may find them there. But it means trudging through that foul flooded passageway again." Haer Kul does not even try to hide his disgust at the prospect.
"I hesitate to say this, but I suggest we go back and try to find the tomb first, before facing this Master."
Thorthal Runecloak
Thorthal will attempt to talk in a whisper, which probably means his normally indecipherable speech makes even less sense.
"It looks loch oor friend Rexal is caught in th' webs, an' there's someain micht be waitin' tae ambush us."
Petronicus Alazario
(Fairly Loudly) Let's send the halflimg theif forward to check on Rexal. I'll protect you with some silencing magic, burglar friend!
<Petronicus casts silent image>
A cloaked halfling emerges from the group and approaches the struggling Rexal. He moves in complete silence but fully in view.
"We can't just leave Rexal behind."
DM Rambler
The "halfling rogue" makes its way across the room towards the obstructing strands. As it passes them, a figure leaps out and attacks it.
The grotesque humanoid figure looks vaguely female. Its pale, hairless, oozing flesh is peeling away from its body in strips.
The party gets a surprise round due to Petronicus' deception. You may each take a single action. Roll for initiative while your at it.

Haer Kul looks at Petronicus and Morgrom with an increasingly smug expression as it becomes clear they don't recognize the creature.
"Gentleman, this foul thing is referred to as an 'Adherer', so named because it exudes a glue-like substance which adheres on contact. Alas, they are resistant to magic and all weapon damage."
He begins to warm to his subject. "They are usually transformed humanoids, who become cannibalistic. However, their slow metabolism means they can keep their victims alive and eat them over a period of weeks. Nasty, nasty creatures, no?
"I do not know if it will follow us if we go back the way we came. I suspect not."
DM Rambler
Morgrom's greatsword becomes tangled in the gluey strands surrounding the creature. While his weapon is entangled, the monster reaches towards Morgrom in an attempt to reposition the warpriest into the webbing.
Reposition Combat Maneuvre: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (5) + 7 = 12
The half-orc stands his ground.
That would normally provoke an attack, but Morgrom is effectively disarmed. He may try to pull his weapon free as a Strength check on his turn (standard action which provokes).
Rexel calls out, "Morgrom! Help! There's also a bug trying to eat me!"

Thorthal will attempt to approach Rexel, attempting to avoid attacks of opportunity by steering clear of the creature. He will glance down to check the depth of the pit when he reaches it.

He will then attempt to formulate a plan on how to get Rexel down, while he looks for the bug attempting to eat him.

"Rexel, how did you get here? Do you have any idea how to get through this cursed webbing?"
Haer Kul will move closer by 10' and try to determine whether the webbing might be flammable, or whether getting all greased up might help one get through the webs.
DM Rambler
2 people marked this as a favorite.
Thorthal is unable to see any bug attempting to eat Rexel except for the entangled Scuttles. The pit is 20' deep, and contains 7 listless townsfolk.
Haer Kul cannot think of a scenario where being greased up would not help.

Petronicus suddenly remembers the group has all kinds of weapons and items they have found in their adventures. He pulls out an elixir of Fire Breath and drinks it while stepping forward 5'. He will have wait until next round to get into range and breathe on the creature.
DM Rambler
Haer Kul finds that it is not webbing, but strings of some sort of glue.
Morgrom's longsword becomes entangled in the creature.
The humanoid steps forward and grabs at Morgrom again.
grabby hands: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (7) + 7 = 14
This time, it successfully pushes the half-orc into the strands.
That's another Reflex save, Morgrom.
I forgot to say that Thorthal also sees strands all through the pit.
