I wouldn't mind at least rolling back to the beginning of the prison. The guard watcher was not responding to any of our attempts to diplomacize, and I get the impression some of that was EmmJay having taken on too much.

Also fine with continuing from current positions.

Let's just crack on.

He doesn't appear to have been very chatty and talkative, but in fairness you got a nice guided tour of the prison so it wasn't fruitless.

Without breaking too much meta though, just try and bear in front and centre of your awareness that you are in a prison, in Cheliax, with a bunch of people who guard such an establishment and are intimately familiar with how things like failure or incompetence are rewarded. They probably aren't signing up for anything reckless during business hours (and everyone in here is firmly on the clock).

As an actual spoiler though, this scenario tracks failures so if you botch rolls the DC's on future checks go up, so be sure you want to make the rolls you are making when you make them. You are a bunch of new rent-a-guards, you can probably get half the info you are looking for without a Diplo roll.

It seemed to me that he was only responding to the most recent post. If three players interacted with the guard, only the third player got an interaction in response.

Taking this as a launching point for a discussion of our overall strategy in this scenario, I think we should focus at the beginning on getting the complete tour. Let's see everything that they will allow us to see, and then decide on a larger strategy from there.

If we happen across a place where we have our host one-on-one, maybe we audible into a charm strategy then, simply because we have the opportunity; I'm getting the sense that opportunities for one-one-one will be rare. But if we don't stumble into a room with a neon sign saying "CHARM HIM NOW," let's just chat him gently and learn what we can learn about The Nail.

Edit: spelling correction; I'm trying to imagine just what a neon sigh would look like. Kinda want to see one.

You ard all very welcome. I have jumped in on so many games I can’t even remember them all. I swore I was going to take a bit of time off after Iverseering the Soecial we just had, but then I saw all these abandoned tables...

I guess I have been in a few dumped games when starting in the PbP space and really hated it, I swore off APs forever after they all flopped, and I’m suspect of anything longer than s scenario now. If I can, I’d like to spare others the fate of becoming jaded too :p

I would assume the conversation would continue on for some time, not like he's got anywhere to go. You have identified the herbs, and would be providing a small situational bonus to possible shenanigans that someone may attempt...

So, let's rehash our overall strategies here.

Malik and Kolris are currently engaged in an attempt to slip oil of taggit into the stew. The primary strategy is currently Malik trying to draw the cook away from the pot, leaving Kolris to spike the stew. This should be easy to execute. Does anybody else have feedback or suggestions?

Zhatara is also currently trying to lure Galavar into a one-on-one situation so that she can charm him (and has been for some time). Honestly, I'm a little concerned that there could be repercussions if we push too hard at this; Zhatara has been hitting that beat over and over again, and Galavar could start to get suspicious. In the interest of not engaging that suspicion, I'd say let's make one hard push at that strategy and then drop it entirely. Any suggestions on how to smooth that along so it doesn't seem suspicious?

Any other thoughts or strategies we should consider at this time?

I'm feeling about as smart as Smiley on this. He's not built around social skills, so he's waiting for the swords to get drawn.

But overall, the plan sounds good to me.

Those suggestions sound great. I'm making an effort to get as many guards as possible to eat the stew and also to provide an avenue for a backup plan, if needed.


Just doing a headcount, looks like this table has all its players. Not the case across the tree so far, unfortunately!

I trust everyone is having fun so far. Swapping GM's can always have a bit of an impact as playstyles/GM styles can vary, so if you have any issues or struggles adapting then please let me know.

Let's just say I'm extremely pleased to have you as GM for this game, shifty.


Sorry about the frustrating aspects, you got a little unlucky there.

The scenario is laid out pretty well to PREVENT one guard being overcome/becoming a hostage and the prison getting compromised.

If you want to be able to sneak off without a minder then it really puts it on the party to come up with a way to shake off a group of very persistent guards. Trying to get one alone sort of flies against their normal practice, as you always travel in pairs (or within sight of the next guard per the door).

Use of vanish/invis would greatly help, as would have someone putting on a Perform type activity in the common room (creates a lot of noise and draws attention all in the same direction) etc.

This is a prison in Cheliax - the guards will stick like glue to their orders, run a reasonably tight ship, and maintain their own personal security as much as possible.

Wait, can someone explain what just happened? I thought being a diabolist was a good thing in Cheliax. How did I screw things up this time?


Diabolist are fine, and hurling bolts of fire and powerful spellcasting is probably part and parcel of what they do - but one who keeps acting suspiciously and then directly using Intimidate against the guards is probably something they will react to... Spellcaster is ok, a hostile one not so much. Diabolist is their way of saying 'Spellcaster', not just a nice lady in a pretty dress - but a potentially lethal opponent.

The Initmidate check was probably a bridge too far.

I've got to say, we're already breaking one person out of prison. How much harder will it be to break out two?

Maybe apologizing and submitting is the best approach? At least until the poison takes effect (which should be really soon).

Hmmm could have sworn blind I saw you take a second shot that missed. Looks like I was mistaken. Take your R3 action (then 4). If it was anything dramatic we can re-shuffle, but yu are in a 1v1 at the moment pretty much.


Malik are you doing gather then burn? Just checking how you are factoring your burn every round :)

You don't need burn for basic blasts. I'm not using any infusions for range either, since everything I want to hit is within 30 ft. The 1 point of burn I have is from the defense talent I set up every day.


'Elemental Overflow' was the ability I was looking for, I couldn't see where the bonus was included in the Defensive ability.

That's the thing I like about the pbp environment, I can spend the time getting across classes I don't see used very often.

Oh. No worries. Just ask if you are curious about the calculations. It's a strange class to get one's head around but pretty simple once you manage to do so.


Yeah I had been reading up on them due to having a table dispute about Aetherkineticists. The editing on that book was really sloppy.

I love pathfinder but Paizo is notorious for this. I pretty much stopped buying first prints exactly for this reason.

We dropped 3 with the poison.


You poisoned 7 guards who were eating in the room, but the conflict was initiated prior to the onset time.

The remaining onset time was rolled for each guard, and during the combat the Poison dropped 3 of them (They need 17 or better), and four who were poisoned have been incapacitated during the melee.

Overall, the call to rotate out three guards was great, as had there not been a reason for Galvar to walk out early you had 10 guards sitting down to eat.

10 less guards would have been awesome :P

Didn't Kolris close the door securely before he went back to the fight? If so to open it should take more than a free action.
