Fingalad Eldahir |
Fingalad has some silvered weapons and silvered arrows... Wish I had known that sooner. Anyway, GM, Fingalad's ranged attack provoked an AoO
Pazacku |

BOOP BOOP. UPLOADING GREY'S CONSCIOUSNESS.
Grey looks at Lady Lucy in fear. "Those guys can handle whatever's on the roof. Let's get you feeling better." He taps her twice more with his healing wand.

As the Pathfinders move in to finish off the devil, or flop around on the floor in some cases, the Lemure swings at Fingalad again in desperation. Despite the ungainliness of it's form, it manages to connect again.
The PCs in bold may act. Anyone, in bold, who does not act within 24 hours will be botted, for sake of time.

7 rounds until the portal opens
Fingalad Eldahir |
Fingalad drops his bow and pulls out a Warhammer, his eyes locked with the lemure's.
"You will not enjoy this, Devil." He says to it as he swings for it's head.
Warhammer, attack, studied target: 1d20 + 6 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 6 + 1 = 9 for bludgeoning, silver: 1d8 + 4 + 1 ⇒ (5) + 4 + 1 = 10
Vogue |
"I don't know what devil ass shat you onto the material plane but it's time you returned to the fecal devil bowels you originated from!" cries out Vogue as he stabs at the extraplanar horror before him.
Attack, spear, reach: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (19) + 7 = 26

Reaper of Earth |
Reaper takes a sometime to carefully pick up his flail.
Reflex Sv: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (9) + 1 = 10 If it is still greased
Second Try
Reflex Sv: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (6) + 1 = 7
Reaper swears some more and thinks about getting strap soon.
GM Ewok |
Poor Pazacku... this scenario has not been good for his dignity.
Fingalad's arrow is turned aside at the last moment as the archer fears hitting Bennybeck the acrobat. However, Vogue steps in, stretching his sinuous form forward and thrusting his long spear into the mass of flesh. The Lemure lets loose one final scream then disappears into a puff of smoke.
Yet there is still that portal, two feet wide now and only getting larger. If you stare into it for a moment, you can see sinister shadows moving on the other side, wanting to get through.
We have less than 3 days left, let's see if we can get through this final battle! You have six rounds between now and when that portal spits out some unholy fiend. Use those to buff, heal and place yourselves. In 24 hours, or when everyone has posted, I will start the fight.
PS: All of the spells will go away, including Reaper's greased weapon.
The PCs in bold may act. Anyone, in bold, who does not act within 24 hours will be botted, for sake of time.

6 rounds until the portal opens
Fingalad Eldahir |
Fingalad puts away his Warhammer and retrieves his longbow. He requests some healing and then takes up position on the roof.
asking someone else to use my wand unless there's going to be some channeling or we have potions to burn or whatever
clw, wand: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (7) + 1 = 8 perfect!
Fingalad will cast vanish on the last round of preparation
Fingalad Eldahir |
should Fingalad use Spellstrike with his Warhammer in that first round of combat to take advantage of them all being flat footed while he's invisible (i.e. two attacks)? Or are there already so many melee people that he should stick with his longbow?
Vogue |
So there is no way to shut this portal down before it opens? At least not with our level appropriate resources? It's just a matter of how quickly we mop up the cultists so we A) have fewer bad guys on the battlefield in the upcoming fight and B) have a few precious rounds with which to prep? Sorry to dive into the metagame realm and I totally understand if this is beyond what our GM wishes to elaborate on.
I really only am curious that there's no affect we can make upon the portal over the next 36 seconds. The rest is just my own rampant speculation.
Reaper of Earth |
Reaper recovers his flail. Seeing the demonic portal decides to slowly power up.
* Align weapon (5 minutes)
* Blessing of Protection (1 minute)
He will also offer Torag's blessing on one other, whoever wants to be on the line with him +1 sacred bonus to AC and Saves for 1 minute. He we do the blessings at round 8 and 9.
Bulls strength 3 more minutes
Align weapon (good) 5 minutes
Blessing of Protection self 8 rounds
Blessing of Protection other 9 rounds
Grey Stoneside |
Grey once again reaches for his wand and begins treating his and Lucy's wounds.

Grey
clw, wand: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4
clw, wand: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (6) + 1 = 7
Grey than quickly puts the wand away and casts Lead Blades on his greatsword. Turning to the portal with his weapon at the ready Grey looks to Lucy.
"I think we are about to have some fun, remember move as one."
GM Ewok |
Short Story: No, there is no way to shut it down.
Long story: There are two reasons they made it a minute. 1. To let those nasty and annoying cultist crowd control spells disappear. 2. To let you have plenty of time to heal up. Thanks to Reaper, you guys had a fairly easy time with the assassin. Most tables suffered far worse. I think that assassin killed two PC's and gave a few others permanent effects they will have to remove before the end of the game. And higher level tables probably needed more than 10 rounds of CLW spells to heal up. So, for us, it's way longer than necessary.

The group prepares just in time, clambering onto the rooftop at the last second! Just as you do, the portal reaches it's full strength and lightning streaks around the outside! Two shadows appear within the infernal plane beyond and break the surface of the gate! Out lumber two Lemures! These two hunks of flesh are old news to you now, but will you be able to defeat them in time?! Two days left before... something happens.

GM Ewok |
AND... that's what Paladins do, Ladies and Gents!
Pazacku, FINALLY gets to an enemy and he makes it count! With one swing of his mighty blade, he slices right through the large pile of flesh and gore. No evil god's protections are to strong for his holy power! The Lemure doesn't even have time for a scream, it just slides away, back to it's home plane.
Fingalad Eldahir |
let's go with melee, especially since I'm closer to the portal than I had realized...
Fingalad casts a spell while still invisible. He suddenly appears as his hammer connects with the jaw of the lemure. Before it has a chance to recover he swings again.
silvered Warhammer, spellstrike (arcane Mark): 1d20 + 6 - 2 ⇒ (14) + 6 - 2 = 18 the Lemure should be flat footed against this attack, since Fingalad was invisible. I think the second attack, too for bludgeoning, silver: 1d8 + 3 ⇒ (5) + 3 = 8
silvered Warhammer, spellstrike (arcane Mark): 1d20 + 6 - 2 ⇒ (3) + 6 - 2 = 7 for bludgeoning, silver: 1d8 + 3 ⇒ (2) + 3 = 5

"Now!" commands Grey and he a Lucy move as one, Grey taking the direct approach to the far Lemure, while Lucy swings wide to flank the creature. They coordinate and strike the creature together.

melee attack, reach: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (5) + 7 = 12
damage, piercing, magical, non good or silver: 1d8 + 2 ⇒ (7) + 2 = 9
GM Ewok |
Combat over!
The rest of the Pathfinders, unwilling to let Pazacku get off his back and take all the glory, run in and destroy the second Lemure several times over. The onslaught of hammers, spears, swords and tusks pop the devil from existence. Seriously, where was this combat prowess earlier in the scenario? For a moment, there is silence. Then, the perceptive among you notice there are more shadows moving behind the red curtain of the portal! The group has a short few seconds to breathe and mentally prepare. Blowing through this to wrap us up… We have less than a day before the mighty Overseer takes over.
Once again, the portal stops flickering, locking into a plane that looks to be a vast wastelands under a flaming sky, perpetually cloaked in a cloying black mist and the oppressive moment before a solar eclipse. And what looks like two gaunt medium-sized evil-looking fleshy hounds burst through onto the rooftop. In unison, the two hounds bay out with a blood-chilling call, which pierces right through your souls, threatening to tear your will apart!

Rounds: 2d4 ⇒ (1, 1) = 2
Well, that was less exciting than I had hoped... oh well.
A chill runs through Pazacku’s heart and he leaps off the rooftop in fear! Before long, he is down the alleyway and running off toward the sunset. Knowing that discretion is the better part of valor, the rest of the intrepid adventurers, pausing, thinking of turning to flee after the holy warrior. Yet, the Pathfinder turns the corner just in time to meet the group's salvation! Sheila Heidmarch, together with her husband Canayven Heidmarch, is charging down the alley leading a small force of Pathfinder reinforcements.
"Get behind us! These canines are nasty!" One of her followers launches a fireball right in the midst of the two yeth hounds, charring them badly. Canayven follows almost immediately with three rapid shots of arrows. Two of them plunge through the skulls of one of the hounds, which then falls onto the ground with a sickening crunch. The other dodges the 3rd arrow and dives towards the archer. Sheila, however, calmly walks forward, interposing herself between the outsider and her husband, and as soon as the monster gets into range, launches a flurry of blows to crush it’s skull before it has the chance to attack.
With the source of fear put down, the terrible terror that has gripped Pazacku dies away, and he stops fleeing. Sheila turns back to examine the party, making sure that no one is seriously injured. "You have the key? Good! Not sure if it's the real one but stay low and keep it safe! We need to go help the rest." With that, she gestures and the group continue their charge down the street towards the center of action.

Pazacku is immune to fear and everyone with in 10 feet gets a +4.If it matters.

Pazacku is immune to fear and everyone with in 10 feet gets a +4.If it matters.
Gah! I forgot about that trick. Should have known. Well, then the Venture Captain would show up in the midst of you all valiantly defeating the doggies. Nonetheless, the result is the same, as we were directed to conclude combat now that we are within 24 hours of the end. (Should be about 10 hours from now)
Pazacku |
No problem....Pazacku can only smite once per day anyway.
Fingalad Eldahir |
Fingalad stows his hammer, recovers his bow, and falls in line.

***OVERSEER POST***
A fanfare of trumpets blasts loudly, breaking through the roar of the combat and ringing of clashing blades. Leading a mounted battalion of armored warriors, Sheila Heidmarch and her husband charge through the streets, driving through the waves of summoned fiends and forcing them to retreat back through their gates to the netherworlds from which they were called. In a matter of minutes, their assault is complete and the streets fall quiet.
Sheila Heidmarch strides over to Prisim – ”You have the REAL Runecarved Key” then holds it aloft signifying a Pathfinder victory!
“Today, every one of you has contributed to a triumphant victory for our Society, and you have cemented our place in Magnimar. “I’m deeply honored that you have granted me your services. While my lodge is small, you have made it feel like a kingdom. Yet our victory today is somewhat bittersweet. It seems dark forces have surfaced in Varisia—forces which, before today, I was unaware of. I’m sorry to have thrown you headlong into the middle of such chaos. I have already sent word to the Decemvirate of today’s events and await their response. When I know more, I shall contact you, for I fear this key has somehow placed all of us in danger. Still, we should go forth, for now is the time to celebrate!”

Thank you all so much for participating!
I would also like to express my gratitude to the fantastic set of GM’s and support crew I had working with me to make this a success, it really was a pleasure running this and that is certainly due to their fantastic efforts. Thanks also to the Online Venture Crew who always show enthusiasm and help pave the way for our events, and to Tonya for the Boons and Gift Certs.
And lastly – thanks to all the players out there (you!) who came in to this with a great attitude and really played in the spirit of it all, even when the Heidmarch family showed some total moral greyness!
