Cool. Take your time.
Chochok Tree Whisper |
Ok, this is the number it's going to be applied to but I can't change the name because I've posted too much with this character. I might just keep the name for this session but when it gets reported I will have you change the name to what the character will eventually be called and see if that is able to fix it.
I haven't had time yet today but I'll start playing around with my oracle of the occult and hopefully get it built tomorrow. We've still got plenty of time before GameDay starts I guess.
I think I'll just make him a human and take Extra Revelation as my two feats for Supreme Oracleness.
DM Carbide |
AIUI, you can't change the name on the boards after ten posts; I saw this happen to another PFS player, too. I'll still report with your preferred name, though.
Chochok Tree Whisper |
Yeah, I know. You can change the name on the profile page but not the actual name that shows up when you post. I know when the GM reports it they can alter the name but I'm not sure if this would actually change the name of the character or not (the name that shows up when you post) as opposed to the profile name. I suppose it's worth a try. If that doesn't work then I guess I'm out of luck but it's honestly a big enough deal to stress over.
Valt |
I don't think it's actually possible for any sane person to take the Dual Cursed Oracle archetype and NOT take the Misfortune revelation. On that note, character crunch alpha ia finished. Anything that's missing or less than understandable?
DM Carbide |
Finally getting back to this; that's the trouble with having a lot of time before the game starts.
I read over Valt, and he looks like an interesting and unusual character. I had a few questions/comments, though. First, you have your alignment as CN in the list, but N in the text. Second, how do you get a third feat at first level? Third, you have your shield listed as "Heavy Steel Wooden Shield."
Valt |
1 & 3) Ha, oops! I'll note this was essentially a reworked profile page from my Bones oracle, thrown together on a mobile phone browser. You'll notice that she's a Neutral Wooden Shield user...
2) Oversight from when the build didn't have Misfortune and instead had Weapon Mastery as the revelation. I'm still super on the fence about it. The funny thing is, though, that I had actually removed it from my attack lines, but not the feat column.
DM Carbide |
Just a reminder that we'll be getting rolling on this tomorrow.
DM Carbide |
Should it become important, my email address is on my profile.
Signboy77 |
Guys, I'm sorry. I never got an oracle put together. Would you guys mind if I just played the Kyra pre-gen?
DM Carbide |
From the posting pace I've seen from those of you I've played with before, I don't think we'll have any trouble finishing this well within the allotted time. I'm good with waiting a day or so, too.
Valt |
Not sure if its a time thing or an undotting issue from maintenance time, but Sign's been absent from only some (not all) the games I'm in with him. A PM may be in order, in case of the latter.
Arnthoth Koortuskson |
Guys, I'm sorry. I never got an oracle put together. Would you guys mind if I just played the Kyra pre-gen?
He did post this on Sun. I don't know if he had a chance to make a character. I know he's gone most of today.
DM Carbide |
I sent him a PM.
Chochok Tree Whisper |
I had the 'un-dotting' problem happen to me in Tek's TDWK game and didn't even realize it had started. The same might have happened to him.
DM Carbide |
On another topic, I missed a possible error when I looked over Valt before--oracles have 4 skill ranks/level, not 2. Unless I'm missing something, you should have a total of 6 skill ranks/level--4 for class, 1 for 13 INT, 1 for human unless you took an alternate racial trait that replaced Skilled.
Valt |
Ha, errors; that's the price I pay from forgetting Sunder needs a BAB. 7 Int was his original stat before he has to do Smart People Combat Maneuvers. Also my Survival is missing its Trait +1. Thanks form the heads up!
DM Carbide |
I suggest putting a skill rank into Disable Device, then.
DM Carbide |
That's a good thing, as they probably wouldn't last very long.
DM Carbide |
After a brief exchange with Signboy77, he's going to play the Kyra pregen. Which makes the party look a bit like Gladys Knight and the Pips (said the GM, showing his age), but that's fine with me.
DM Carbide |
Valt, one more possibly-stupid question: how do you get a +7 in Disable Device? It looks as though you put two ranks into it, which is AIUI not legal at first level--
You can never have more ranks in a skill than your total number of Hit Dice.
Valt |
I really gotta sit down at an actual computer and fix this page up; building it on my phone at work isn't cutting it in clerical errors, it seems. Likely a "6 is next to 7" issue than a skill ranks ones. Data plan reset today, so today's the day!
DM Carbide |
I hear you on the working from phone thing--I have a Samsung Note 2 (a/k/a the Presbyopic Special; a little bigger than an iPhone or Galaxy), and even with the larger screen I still really don't like posting/working from it. (It doesn't help that the square brackets aren't on the main Symbols list.)
Valt |
The key is learning to utilize Voice-to-text AND typing in unison. Brackets are a pain, but the big hitter is the "Window resizes EVERY TIME a new text box is entered" thing, plus doing that 12 times while trying to manage to dodge the Post Monster and his appetite for large chunks of text...
Raavan Shiv |
I sometimes compose in a separate text editor (the iphone has a basic notepad), and have templates for certain bracket-code, like dice and bold.
Also, always remember to select all and copy before posting. If the post monster eats your post you can simply paste a new one or save it in a note if the site is acting funny.

So....I have never ran an animal companion before and looking over his sheet over the past couple days, I think HeroLab has done some screwy things with it.
For one, it gave him an INT of 6, which I believe should only be two, some I have way too many tricks and it shows he can learn something like nine more.
My second question, do ACs get the flat Save mods, or do those go on top of the Bestiary entry? I'm thinking it's the latter.
Anyway, I going to put up both the Herolab sheet, then what I think it should be. Could someone look over them for me? I know at least a few of you have ACs.

When I made my animal companion for Desmond, I went by the stats that are available in the Druid section of the CRB. I'm not sure if the issue may be that Herolabs is using the stats from the Bestiary (I have no idea if there are any differences between what is in the Bestiary vs. CRB)
I thought you treat the save mods the same way as a character: Ability Mod + Save Mod + any special things.
But yeah, wolf starting intelligence is 2.
DM Carbide |
It looks as though HL may treat an animal companion as if it's a familiar, as they get INT 6 to start with. I can't check that from work, though.
Valt |
That sounds like a good guess. It could also be a programming work-around to qualify ACs for feats and things that require 3 or more Int. Wouldn't know, since I don't use HL, but a structurally logical guess.
DM Carbide |
Will get something up later today; work is being something of a time suck.
DM Carbide |
I'm going to be on the road or at a meeting (or at the Madison farmer's market) most of the day. Will get a post up later tonight.
Chochok Tree Whisper |
My fiancee was just talking about the Madison farmer's market yesterday. We have one here in Bloomington but it's not that big so she was excited to check out the Madison one when we move there later this summer.
DM Carbide |
I spent most of the weekend either helping a friend move (and recovering from that) or rebuilding a computer. Should have more time over the next few days.
DM Carbide |
More RL burying me at the moment; should have something more up tomorrow.
Kenotrixjemel Brightbramble |
DM Carbide, I just noticed my stat block was incorrect. I have fixed it now but you may need to change any macros or notes you might have had for my AC (17), Initiative (+4) and Perception (+3). I'm not sure how it happened but its fixed now. Fortunately I do not believe any of it would have affected gameplay since I don't think I've been a target of an attack yet.
DM Carbide |
No problem; I just have initiative and perception in the list. Thanks for letting me know.
DM Carbide |
I'll be out of town for the US holiday weekend; may have a chance to check in, but posting will be curtailed.

Re Arcane Lock: That spell is better than you'd think, especially for home games and the like. In book 1 of Carrion Crown we heard a knocking sound on the door at night and when the cleric opened it there was a zombie outside. My wizard was still up scribing a scroll but the ninja and fighter had already gone off somewhere else in the house. We pulled high initiative and the cleric slammed the door shut and I pulled out a scroll of arcane lock to seal the door. The zombie couldn't get in after that and we waited until the ninja and fighter caught up before we opened the door. Whenever we move to a new place with a door, that's the first thing we do now, along with fixing our stone of alarm to the back side of the door. It's Carrion Crown, so it's all about classic horror tropes. We're paranoid as s&!&. We're only level 5 and have already nearly died a dozen times, so that only increases the paranoia.
Raavan Shiv |
Good advice on arcane lock. I'm in a Temple of Elemental Evil game (heavily modified for Pathfinder), and I'm going to look into having our wizard use it more often to control the dungeon crawl.
