Hello everybody, and welcome to this OutPost I game of Black Waters! This is the place for all Out of Character (OOC) discussions, make yourselves at home. :)

About me

I like to keep my games moving along at a reasonably steady pace and will typically make only one substantive post a day to move the story along, but I will post more often during combat and the occasional conversation to help keep things flowing nicely. I am a roleplay and story-oriented GM and love it when players take advantage of the format to play off of each other, have conversations, and describe how they are doing the things they are doing. That said, I also really enjoy combat and will try to keep y'all on your toes and make combats challenging and fun - bad guys with high acrobatics skills and the intelligence to use it, for example, will make full use of it to pop up where you don't want them. I highly encourage y'all to think out of the box as well, jump on tables for the higher ground bonus to hit, for example, both useful and fun! :)

Some expectations

I expect players to post at least once a day, but I understand that this is not always possible. Please tell me if you anticipate that you will be unable to post. If you're going on holiday or are in the middle of a crazy week at work, that's okay. Just let me know so that we can keep things rolling smoothly in your absence. I'll tell you when I'll be unable to post too. Also, if everyone can have a 'bot me' spoiler in their profile with key strategies and pre-formatted dice rolls, that would be great!

In combat, please indicate what actions you are using on your turn. Just a little bit of out of character (OOC) text at the end of your post like this: standard action to cast fireball of unbelievable toastiness, move action to draw rod of everlasting awesomeness.

And finally, have fun! I'm hoping for teamwork, enthusiasm, and a healthy dose of heroism. :)

Is there anything fun or unusual about your characters I should know about before we begin? Just so that I have time to look up the necessary rules, or refresh my memory on how grappling works if any of your characters specialise in wrestling. ;)


GM Construct - Botting Guide

A rusty old robot steps out from a dusty corner of a dark room "I am Bot Buddy SH-13LD." It says in a mechanical, emotionless voice "If you disappear, I will emulate you. However, I am not programmed to do..." The whirring of gears increases as Bot Buddy searches for the right word "Imagination... As such, it is in your best interests that I am activated as seldom as possible... That is all." He then steps back into the dark corner and powers down.

Botting Policy

Bot Buddy SH-13LD will be activated under the following circumstances:

If we're in combat and a player hasn't posted for 24 hours from the start of a new round, I will bot them. However, if the new round is posted on a weekend (like today,) I will wait 48 hours before botting.

  • It's combat, and 24 (48 on weekends) hours have passed since the start of a new round;
  • The group needs a skill check from you, and 24 (48 on weekends) hours have passed since it was first required;
  • You tell me that you will be gone for a few days, and ask me to bot you.

I prefer not to bot, but I also want the game to keep moving. If I do bot you, it will likely be minimal and I will not use any non-renewable resources except in dire situations.

Hey there Shieldbug! Thanks for having us!

Meloriel here, checking in with Everbloom.

Everbloom is a kitsune kineticist with wood as her elemental focus. Though she's primarily a ranged combatant, she's not against getting her jaws bloody in melee when necessary. She grew up in the wilds, so she has a decent amount of survival-type skills and is used to death as a natural part of life. She's wild, curious, impulsive and easily bored. Though she might seem kind (at first) she's not particularly nice, and finds most people's emotions, and other sensitivities amusing. She works well with her teammates but isn't always well-liked. She has a fondness for dark magic and powerful artifacts (but no real training in how to use such objects).

She's got no weird rules you'll need to worry about.

I am RabbitAlmiraj and this is Bunny Paras. She is a kitsune druid with pink fur and a pet parasaurolophus. She likes to sing and dance, and so does her dinosaur. Sometimes her dinosaur tries to scare people! Bunny Paras has a rabbit farm and Senton is her friend. She likes to fight with her sling or to help and heal her teammates.

I am gemmik and this is Senton. Some people call him Mr. Ice because he is always cold and dresses like it is winter even if it is not! He is friends with Bunny Paras and also with Enzo. He is good at fighting with his bow and with his short swords. He is good in nature and also with traps and things.

Once he had to run away from a giant tidal wave and a frog monster with wings! It was really cool!

Hello this is CariMac checking in with Tera.

I am ancient compared to being five and six.

Tera is Life Oracle. She can heal you if you get hurt, and make you hit the enemy better. She doesn't see well. Her vision is only out to 30 feet. She can see in the dark to those 30 feet. She may have to ask what others see if something is far away.

She is an Ifrit, and likes fire.

Hi, I'm TrinketMike.

I'll be playing Enzo Jeggare, a Chelaxian occultist with a splendid moustache! He is friends with Bunny Paras and Senton. He focuses on conjurations through his occultist implements, more specifically a worn out dog figurine which he occasionally speaks to.

Enzo's conjurations are done with his Servitor ability, which is a standard action, costs 1 mental focus, and the summoned creatures last for 1 minute. Otherwise this functions as the summon monster I spell.

I know we don't start for a good while yet (March 5th,) but I've always been the impatient type and just had to see what y'all were playing. Okay, so the start date is getting nearer (yay!) and I just got a chance to read through the scenario for the first time. It looks like it should be fun! However, I have a quick question for y'all that'll help me prepare: would you like to do the faction missions? Faction missions are just little tasks that your characters are asked to perform during game. They used to be included as a way to earn extra prestige points, but now they have no in-game effect other than being something extra to do.

So what do say folks, yay or nay?

We also have a little extra housekeeping to take care of. When Tera was bit by one of the ghouls, she contracted Ghoul Fever.

Since this is a disease that causes Con damage, we need to resolve it before I can start issuing chronicle sheets.

You are in the middle of Absalom, so spellcasting services are available. Remove Disease requires a caster level check (1d20 + caster level) vs. the the disease DC (12 in this case), so if you want to be sure of being cured without rolling dice, you need to purchase the spellcasting service at caster level 11, the costs are as follows:

CL 5 * 3 * 10gp = 150gp
CL 6 * 3 * 10gp = 180gp
CL 7 * 3 * 10gp = 210gp
CL 8 * 3 * 10gp = 240gp
CL 9 * 3 * 10gp = 270gp
CL 10 * 3 * 10gp = 300gp
CL 11 * 3 * 10gp = 330gp

Everyone is free to chip in if they like, but are under no obligation to do so.

There is also the option of letting things run there natural course, and attempt the saving throws. Two saving throws in a row will stop the fever and Tera will be right as rain. I recommend trying this first until the constitution damage gets dangerously high. If Bunny Paras takes 10 on a heal skill check to provide long-term care for Tera, that will give an extra +4 to each saving throws to make things that much easier. Feel free to play this out in the gameplay thread if you like. ;)
