Eliphaz |
"There are only six of us that eat fruit. May I pay five copper for half a dozen?"
Eliphaz turns to the group.
"My treat!"
Herman Lacosta |
Leading the horse with them Herman smiles at the though of apples.
"Lets get the full dozen. Horses love apple slices."
GM Livgin |
Eliphaz; sense motive: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (19) + 10 = 29
Herman; sense motive: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 2 = 4
"Here are your apples, Praise Razmir and the joy in servitude."
Sense Motive, DC 15: You the hawker has a slight glaze to his eyes, as he recites the blessing. Looking around the market you see that same bewildered look in everyone. Listening to the ambient noise you hear quotes of scripture added to the conversation here and there. These villagers have been enchanted.
Ayla Brawler |
"Ayla buy fruit. Ayla carry fruit!" Pulling out a gold 'stone' from her belt pouch, she hands it to the apple salesman. "Need this many apples! Please?" Diplomacy: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (14) + 3 = 17
Yes, I realize this is 120 apples. No, Ayla doesn't realize this. Yes, I do think it is hilarious. Also, I'll have apples for (Probably?) the rest of the quests?
GM Livgin |
2 people marked this as a favorite. |
He does have 120 apples, he will sell you 120 apples, you will have apples for the rest of the quest and enough left over to add them to the Inventory Tracking Sheet if you choose to. The Society will not consider this a reasonable travel expense and will not reimburse you. This is entertaining.
"Gold is holy, my obedience is my joy." he takes the gold and hands over 4 baskets heaping with apples.
"The sermon will start very soon. Come friend, we should get a place at the front."
Mohag the Wanderer |
Mohag tries to help Ayla with handling the enormous amount of apples.
"I can hold one of those baskets for you, if you like."
At the merchant's brief blessings, Mohag sounds a bit annoyed.
"Joy in servitude?"
This is somewhat offensive to both his Ulfen raider upbringing and his more recent faith in Desna. But he bites his tongue lest he provoke a conflict and endanger the mission.
Then he looks around at the crowd.
Sense Motive, Inspired: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (4) + 3 = 7
Sense Motive, Inspired: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (15) + 3 = 18
"Ulisha's thought was on the mark. These people have been enchanted. Let us be on the lookout for this priest with his jeweled rod, and steel our minds against its effects."
Mohag is willing to go up front with the party if that's what they want to do. He is somewhat concerned about Ayla, regarding the impulsive though entertaining catfolk as less likely to resist mind control -- so he'll stand near her to use Bit of Luck or Protection from Evil if needed.
Ayla Brawler |
1 person marked this as a favorite. |
I assure you, I fully intend to!
Ayla's eyes widen as the baskets of apples stack up. "Uhhh... Horse help carry?" Filling her backpack with one of the full baskets, and carrying another her arms, Ayla looks hopefully at Herman.
On an unrelated note, How much damage do you think an apple would deal? And what do you think would be its range increment? Also, 'Throw Anything' is a combat feat, right? Asking for a friend.
Eliphaz |
Eliphaz tucks away his holy symbol and continues with the group towards the sermon.
Herman Lacosta |
"That is what horses are for, carrying apples. You will of course have to pay the standard horse / apple tax form time to time."
Herman says with a smile to Ayla.
Ayla Brawler |
"Horse carry apple, Horse eat apple. Everyone have apple!"
After helping attach the baskets to Horse's Saddle, Ayla heads to the very front, before finding her place in the front with the giant basket.
Janus Grey |
"Let us see what this new preacher has to say. We will 'follow' him, afterwards, yes?"
Janus blocks his ears with earplugs, and draws his cloak about him. This hides his proper holy symbol, but not the clasp on his cloak. I'm counting on that being small and obscure.
GM Livgin |
You follow the apple vendor as he leads you to the crowd at the front of a large stage erected in front of the stone statue that is under construction. It looks like every villager has joined the crowd, all eager for the next sermon.
At high noon a man in robes and an iron mask exits a large house and makes his way to the center of the stage, flanked by two guards the whole time.
His eyes are immediately drawn to your group. "Ah! My dearest children, it appears some stray lambs have wandered into our flock! Surely Razmir can uncloud the minds of these wayward souls."
With a flourish he extends a bejeweled golden rod towards you and utters an arcane word... Nothing happens... He stammers a few times behind his iron mask and tries the arcane word again before yelling at the amased villager; "Defend ME!"
The priest and his guards flee off the back of the stage while the villagers turn and create a wall of bodies preventing you from pursuing the priest, grabbing you and pushing you when you try to get past them.

Mohag the Wanderer |
"Citizens, is this truly the will of Razmir?
For did he not say in his 27th Address to the Faithful that his priests' powers, backed by the golden symbols of his might, never fail? That any who fail are not true priests of his?
And did he not further say in his 32nd Address to the Faithful to be alert for impostors?
Therefore, the man before you on stage was a false priest!"
Mohag would like to use Knowledge (Religion) to point out inconsistencies and befuddle the crowd or even turn them against the priest, but if this requires a Bluff check that's okay too -- just 4 points lower on the result.
Knowledge (Religion), Inexplicable Luck: 1d20 + 5 + 8 ⇒ (14) + 5 + 8 = 27
Eliphaz |
Aha! This would be the perfect opportunity to-...
Not today!
Eliphaz spins around, his oversized robes flapping wildly and his mitre nearly falling off as he does so, and when he stops he holds his Holy Symbol aloft.
"BEHOLD! I shall show you the power of a TRUE god! Behold the blessings of Aroden!"
Eliphaz casts Bless.
"Even a dead god holds more sway than a false one! That man has DECEIVED you!"

Herman Lacosta |
I have plenty of range lets see if I can get them to move.
Herman levels and arrow at the crowd and tries one more time to get them to disperse.
"My friends said it nicer but MOVE BEFORE THIS ARROW FINDS A NEW HOME!"
Intimidate: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (10) + 4 = 14
GM Livgin |
Sorry for linking the map, there are too many villagers to properly represent the mob. They are swarming around you and have you completely surrounded.
That said, Herman's threat was ineffective even though it could have worked.
Vina, the villagers are already surrounding you, grabbing Lakadee and try to grab you (especially after casting magic at their priest). You may change his actions if you don't want him striking or roll an attack and damage roll.
Vina Sitha |
I see - yes I'd like to change my actions to help Herman's intimidate with Lakadee, and Eliphaz' diplomacy with Vina
Vina says, "Yes! l-listen to my blue-skinned samsaran friend! this priest is false! you must take him down, not us!"

DM Livgin |
The Janus spill away into the crowd, while Vina and Herman attempts to talk the mob down. You have made some progress; The Janus are slipping through the crowd avoiding attention and some of the villagers are pausing to rethink their options under tirade of Mohag and Eliphaz.

OK, so I can't start shooting random people in a skills check :)
This is crazy, maybe I can slip threw.

GM Livgin |
You can start shooting people, but you will be shooting enchanted villagers that are only trying to stop you. They have not tried to hurt you yet.
Eliphaz |
Eliphaz breaks into a sermon about how it was Aroden himself that rose the Starstone from the Inner Sea, far more of an accomplishment than Razmir has ever been accredited with.

Janus Grey |
Janus continues to lose himself in the crowd...
Sometimes going unseen is simply a question of avoiding out of place actions.
Can I take 10 on this stealth check? If so my result is 18.
stealth if I can't take 10: 1d20 + 9 - 1 ⇒ (11) + 9 - 1 = 19
Ayla Brawler |
With a forlorn look and a tiny sad wave, Ayla whispers "Ayla come back!" to the bushel of apples, before Hissing and clambering over the crowd, climbing over Limbs and bodies! Unless there is something that she can climb up close by like the Stage or a Building, in which case she's going to toss the bushel of apples up there first, before climbing up after it. Either way, hissing at the crowd as she climbs.
Climb(Stage or Crowd, Whichever is funnier): 1d20 + 12 + 2 ⇒ (5) + 12 + 2 = 19
GM Livgin |
Eliphaz monolog on the glory of Aroden gives the villagers pause. Mean while Janus slips further to the edge of the crowd, but the villagers spot Janus Too and try to corral him in, catching Janus while they are at it. Ayla climbs up the stage and distracts a large group of villagers as they pursue her.
Any character can only use the same ability twice before the mob gets smart to it. Janus, you stealth will no longer deceive these villagers.
The distraction of the enchanted mob mobbing you prevents the option to take ten.
You have seven successes.

You finally evade, distract and convince the mob sufficiently to make it away without leaving anyone behind. It felt like days but it it only took a few seconds to escape their hands, seconds that added to the priests lead.
Following the direction the priest and the guard fled, you come around a partially constructed fortification to find your marks at just in front of the stable. They drop the chest they were loading into carriage at your sudden arrival, as it hits the ground the lid pops open and spills gold and silver coins on the ground. The priest still carries the scepter in hand.
