Curse of the Crimson Throne | Loot

Nope, no cheat sheet. I usually have the PRD open while I'm posting, then copy and paste the link, bracketing it with the formatting.

To make it easier in subsequent posts as GM, I usually find my last post, and hit "Reply," which copies the formatting of that post and pastes it into my new post. Then, I edit anything that needs it and add what's new.

Taking a moment to look up things in the PRD refreshes my memory and improves my familiarity with and understanding of the rules.

Foreigner (-4; grappled)

The hyperlink is smart, but what if you have taken multiple hits from numerous enemies or multiple turns?

Personally, I keep a running tally of the total damage next to the player.

I've seen a couple GMs add in the math, but I've found at high tier...that gets rather extensive. Enemy hitting 5+ time per round, have 3 or 4 different forms of healing active...

If it were me, say next round Foreigner gets smacked for another 8 damage...

Foreigner (-12; grappled)

As opposed to...

Foreigner (-4-8=12; grappled)

The conditions included are all that are still in effect. I hyperlink each. I don't think I've had more than three. For example, Foreigner (-7; grappled, shaken, disabled)

So in my most recent post, I am just linking the damage so I can get used to doing links and such. Since I am going to be running 5-6 Solstice Scar C, may as well do whatever to practice now, right?

By the way, I signed up for your Solstice Scar C table. I've played the first two versions with the same PC, Skye, Shaman of the Lyrune-Quah. Hmm GMed version A, and Lady Ladile GMed version B. Both were a total blast.

I'll be GMing a subtier 7-8 table of version C.

Excellent, I am looking forward to having you at my table. I have GM'd C during Paizocon so it won't be unfamiliar territory for me, and it will be nice having a veteran to make sure I am not missing a beat with the reporting steps.

PbP Tip:
PC & NPC Icons - I like to leave the borders of the PCs' icons black and only 1x thick. I reserve the colored borders for the NPCs/foes and make them a little thicker, usually 3x. That makes it easier to differentiate friend from foe, and one foe from another.

I like colors on all of them (on big maps that have small tokens it can be hard to differentiate if they all of black bordes), but make the PCs round and the enemies square, for the same purpose. Sometimes I'll make non-enemy NPCs some other shape (pentagonal is an easy option), to differentiate them, too.

Scarab Sages

Pathfinder Society Subscriber | Venture Agent

The shapes idea is a pretty good one, and I will admit I like colors representing who is on whose side for NPCs.

The Concordance

LN Vine Leshy Zen Archer 3 | Mods: Deflect Arrows | HP: 24/24 | AC 17, Tch 17, Fl 11 | CMB: +3, CMD: 18 | F: +5, R: +5, W: +7 | Speed 30ft | Goodberry: 1/1; Perfect Strike: 3/3 | Perc: +10; SM: +4 | Init +2 |

I do the shapes. PCs round and enemies square/rectangular.

I do use colors for my borders to help the players differentiate...but I'm partially color blind. Colors aren't my friend. :-P

The different shapes for identifying friend and foe (IFF) are a good idea, one I will probably experiment with, especially because that IFF SOP will make it easy for any players who might suffer from color blindness.

But I think I'll stick with my methodology for icon borders, Friendly = black and NPCs = colored.

I avoid the colors for PCs, thinking that most players quickly become familiar with their own and their companions' images, and limit colored borders to those icons representing NPCs/Foes. It just let's my slow brain rapidly recognize at a glance, who's a bad guy and who's a good guy.

I’m finding the discussion of borders and avatars interesting.

I’ve never worried about the PC border color. I am mostly looking at the images.

NPCs have different colors, but I’ve had problems with people not being able to tell exactly which was which. I hit one player with some minor color blindness and had to adjust based on what worked for them.

As for border shape, I no longer use square borders. Circles, octagons, squares with rounded edges all work for me. I don’t want to use squares because I like being able to see the grid intersections.

I think that I will experiment a little bit here, see what works for me.

Border widths of 2 or 3 have seemed to work best for me.

I liked it, although I did wonder if a devil would know all about the Pathfinder Society.

I’m a big believer in NPCs not being omnipotent. There have been a couple of times when my players got a kick out of it when they realized that they had information that the NPC they were talking to didn’t. I extend this to things like NPCs not being able to do Spellcraft checks because they didn’t have it trained.

It isn’t a big deal here, but something to think about.

In the books devils are incredibly resourceful when they find someone of interest to them.

Redemption engine:
has one named Hezechor who was able to find out details of the hero that only the psychopomps knew and he tried to manipulate him with it.

So the first set of bandits you released, or the goblins who fled, or maybe even the caravan... Who knows what she did to whom to find out about the adventurers who activated that haunt in the manor...
Except she doesnt know Mishka and the Foreigner are the same person. She thinks there's a missing team member.

What I am actually doing is, with my downtime at work, building an excel document to automatically code all my fights before hand, so all I have to do is copy paste. It will have all the urls, and everything preprogrammed so that when I need to enter a link all I have to do is enter it into a neighboring cell.

The coded cell then takes that data and puts it into my code needed to run the game for the health and status URLs. Also monster offenses and abilities will be pre-spoilered and fitted with codes to accomodate conditions.

My end game goal is to build the template document that will just automatically adjust to all my codes needed for any scenario I could wish for.
