Out of the Abyss (5E)

Game Master IronDM72

Greeting I will be attemptping to DM the the Out of the Abyss 5E adventure path. I am looking for 4 to 5 players for this AP.
Character Stuff
roll 4d6 and drop the lowest number. All races/alignments are allowed also for HP we will be taking the max at 1st level and the average as you level. As far posting goes, I will be posting every 48 hours, weekend posting will be determined by the pace of the posting. Since the holidays are around the corner I expect a slow pacing or no post around Thanksgiving and Christmas. I will close out the recruitment on Sunday the 27th of SEPT. Also the Elemmental Players guide is open for use as well.

I'm interested. I did the first two books on actual table top, but now that I switched jobs, I work on most of the days Adventures league is actually run for those books.

hmm, what race and class shall I be? 1d6 + 2d8 ⇒ (1) + (8, 7) = 16 yeah, I use a coded system. It wants me to make an elf warlock. never been a warlock before.

stats: 4d6 ⇒ (5, 2, 6, 2) = 15 13
stats: 4d6 ⇒ (6, 1, 1, 2) = 10 9
stats: 4d6 ⇒ (4, 2, 4, 1) = 11 10
stats: 4d6 ⇒ (3, 2, 3, 5) = 13 11
stats: 4d6 ⇒ (6, 4, 2, 6) = 18 16
stats: 4d6 ⇒ (3, 3, 3, 6) = 15 12

4d6 ⇒ (6, 5, 6, 1) = 18 = 17
4d6 ⇒ (4, 1, 3, 5) = 13 = 12
4d6 ⇒ (6, 2, 2, 5) = 15 = 13
4d6 ⇒ (5, 4, 3, 5) = 17 = 14
4d6 ⇒ (3, 5, 5, 3) = 16 = 13
4d6 ⇒ (6, 1, 3, 5) = 15 = 14

Daaaaaang. That's quite a set of stats.

So are we starting at 1st level? Are we using standard gear or the purchase method? Will maps be a necessary part of gameplay?

Also, I notice this is your first post. Have you done this before elsewhere, or is this your first time? If you're new (or new-ish), there's some good guides to PbP here on the forums if you're interested. :)

EDIT: Wait, recruitment deadline is this Sunday? Dang, I might not even have time to make a character...

I have done this before Jiggy its been while. I have decided to give PbP another go. Also maps will not be needed up front they may come into play later. @DoubleGold hope this game fills your need. Jiggy if you need more time PM me. Also everyone will be starting at level 1 and you can take either the kits that come with class or you can buy your stuff. I will leave that up to you.

4d6 ⇒ (1, 5, 2, 3) = 11 =10
4d6 ⇒ (2, 5, 3, 6) = 16 =14

Hmm. Dotting for interest. Will think about possibilities.

So far Double Gold , Jiggy, and Tribe. Sweetness !

Will have an Elven Ranger (Maybe Drow) up this afternoon.

4d6 ⇒ (6, 4, 2, 4) = 16 14
4d6 ⇒ (4, 4, 1, 1) = 10 9
4d6 ⇒ (5, 5, 2, 5) = 17 15

4d6 ⇒ (5, 1, 5, 5) = 16 15
4d6 ⇒ (4, 4, 5, 6) = 19 15

I can work with that

Hey all - I am certainly interested! Here is Anders Buckman, Male Human Barbarian. I will relegate him back to 1st Level if accepted.

4d6 ⇒ (4, 5, 1, 6) = 16 = 15
4d6 ⇒ (4, 5, 3, 1) = 13 = 12
4d6 ⇒ (2, 6, 4, 4) = 16 = 14
4d6 ⇒ (4, 6, 4, 2) = 16 = 14
4d6 ⇒ (5, 6, 5, 3) = 19 = 16
4d6 ⇒ (6, 3, 2, 5) = 16 = 14

Pretty solid dots!

Is the Variant Human Trait available for this campaign (2 abilities at +1, and a feat, instead of each ability +1)?

Good Question - I have incorporated it, already.

Yes Scran yes the variant is available and feats will be at level 4 etc

Liberty's Edge

4d6 ⇒ (2, 6, 3, 6) = 17 = 15
4d6 ⇒ (5, 4, 5, 4) = 18 = 14
4d6 ⇒ (6, 6, 3, 3) = 18 = 15
4d6 ⇒ (2, 1, 4, 3) = 10 = 09

Not too bad..will have to see what I can come up with!!!

What kind of level range are we looking at here? 1-3? 1-8? 1-20?

Everyone will be starting off at Level 1. The AP goes until the upper levels say 18 or so.

Anders and Daniel Stewart report in the discussion board.

I went with the Human Ranger / Archer. I'll get the profile up later this afternoon or this evening.

Hm, lots of people doing martials; I might go for a spellcaster then.

Come to think of it, I've long been toying with the idea of a Cleric1/WizardX (or Cleric1/SorcX), so maybe I'll build that.

Um, what pantheon are we using? I'm afraid I don't know the D&D pantheons very well; can I be a "concept cleric" and just pick a domain?

.... I don't have time now, but I'd like to throw my hat in the ring with a warlock of some sort. I just managed to snag the PHB and have been dying to get into a game but don't have gas to get my FLGS, lol.

Mind if I come back in later tonight with a possible entry? I know I plan on Pact of the Tome, Great Old One warlock. I just haven't settled on a race yet.

I believe Hess is ready to adventure. Still working on background details, but should be ready to play.

@Jiggy Forgotten Realms Deities..
Hess go ahead report in the discussion group.

Alright. I'll see what I can cobble together in the little time I'll have at home with my books. What I'm imagining right now is a half-elf, with stats of 12/14/14/13/18/16. First level would be cleric (not sure of domain), then after that would be sorcerer (probably draconic bloodline, because wild magic is annoying to actually implement). Otherwise, should be pretty straightforward. Not sure on background yet.

By the way, what's the initial premise of the campaign? That is, I haven't seen people discuss character backstory/motivations/etc. Is this something where we're random people who happen to be present when something bad happens? Are we supposed to be treasure hunters with a built-in interest in going to the first place of interest? Are we an existing professional team? Something else? Just want to get an idea of what sort of concept to go with.

This is the alias for Jiggy's character. I'm still filling what I can from memory, and more will be filled in when I'm with my book. But at least now you can check on my progress at your leisure.

The premise of the AP is that you and others are captured by the Drow. As you escape into the Underdark to make your way home you find out demons are running amok in the Underdark!

Grand Lodge RPG Superstar 2015 Top 32, RPG Superstar 2012 Top 32

Sounds exciting! Were we captured together, or do we just happen to be cellmates?

I abandoned the idea of the cleric/sorc multiclass, and just went with a mono-cleric plan. Hope it's acceptable.

Looks good.

So far Anders, Hess, Rornvak,Arannis are the PCs are in. I will allow one or two more I before close this.

So, two Barbarians, a Cleric and a Ranger. Some Arcane power would be nice.

Anders Buckman wrote:

Have a look at my domain spell list. Light clerics are very nearly pyromancers. :D

Excellent!

4d6 ⇒ (2, 5, 4, 5) = 16 = 14
4d6 ⇒ (5, 6, 5, 5) = 21 = 16
4d6 ⇒ (1, 5, 4, 5) = 15 = 14
4d6 ⇒ (2, 4, 2, 1) = 9 = 8
4d6 ⇒ (2, 1, 4, 1) = 8 = 7
4d6 ⇒ (5, 1, 3, 3) = 12 = 11

Hmmm, I'll have to think on this :)

4d6 ⇒ (5, 5, 4, 2) = 16 = 14
4d6 ⇒ (1, 2, 1, 5) = 9 = 8
4d6 ⇒ (1, 3, 4, 1) = 9 = 8
4d6 ⇒ (2, 4, 1, 1) = 8 = 7
4d6 ⇒ (1, 6, 5, 2) = 14 = 13
4d6 ⇒ (3, 3, 5, 5) = 16 = 13

..... I don't even know if that's a workable set of stats... For a warlock that is. Suppose I could be a very frail half-elf?

I'll have to think on this.

Artemis reroll if you want this time just use 3d6

Anders Buckman wrote:

getting right on that, it will take me another day to make my warlock.

4d6 ⇒ (6, 6, 5, 6) = 23 18
4d6 ⇒ (5, 4, 5, 3) = 17 14
4d6 ⇒ (1, 3, 3, 5) = 12 11
4d6 ⇒ (4, 4, 5, 6) = 19 14
4d6 ⇒ (1, 4, 4, 1) = 10 9
4d6 ⇒ (2, 3, 2, 2) = 9 7

thanking rogue, bard or wizard
