Yerss, a little Diplomacy was on the cards for Naia...

You know, I am that book that you judge by the cover.
I like to think this came after Soros expressed his opinion on metaphors :)
_Soros_ |
If you plan on using a marching order please let me know.
Soros will gravitate towards the center of the party to better protect and be protected by his new companions.
Rabalar |
Rabalar really is happy to take the scout position, and will carry his own pack while doing so if he has to. But why would he want to?
Stealth+8 (+5 while carrying the pack) at full speed and no further penalty is pretty good for a scout at 1st level!

D'Ogryn wrote:You know, I am that book that you judge by the cover.I like to think this came after Soros expressed his opinion on metaphors :)
OH yes it did..lol
I also was not expecting Soros to call him out on what he can and can not do. I was thinking it would be Edan personally.Rabalar |
Another Scout camping trip. This time with the troop, like is supposed to be normal. Going back to the site with no cell coverage.
My allergies are hitting me hard enough I want to just crawl into a ball and do nothing. All the boys can't get there unless I drive.
ALLENDM |
So from the sounds of it this is what I gathter the marching order would be outdoors:
Rabalar, Zove, and Okware in the lead acting as point. Sounds as if you would like to have Okware acting as a roving scout moving in concert around Zove and Rabalar?
Then Naia, Soros, Edan, and D'ogryan as the main body. I would assume D'ogryn would act as the rear guard and flank security of the main body.
Something like this:
O------R/Z--------N/S/E/D (the / simply means by each other)
In more secure/safer environments the point would close down distance and join the main body. Also can I assume in wooded environments and terrain with broken ground that has limited visibilty that you would stagger the main body so that everyone was visible and within earshot but able to find cover?
Might want to consider what you would do inside a dungeon/house in regards to marching order as well. If you get split up what will you do. This is all OOC but things to consider and it would be things that Rabalar and Edan would consider from being caravan guards.

Rabalar |
I actually intended for something more like
R----Z-----Bulk with O as a pure roamer.
But we never functionally agreed to it.
With the Olf's ability to get around, he might well maintain distance (and stealth) from the main body, because he can get back to them faster than they can reach him in rough terrain.
Rendevouz point definition requires knowing the area. Kind of a short point for Rabalar and Edan.
Characters don't know enough to build a good crawl marching order.
D N/E S/Z R/O might be better for a crawl. Though the cat's location is still pretty wide open.
ALLENDM |
So going into unknown areas I am going to give descriptions of the area around you but I am not going to do a map until you know the area and take the time to map it out in wilderness areas. This will also apply to inside buildings and crawls. This is more for the ease of setting up ambushes and keeping you on your toes. :)
ALLENDM |
You are five miles east of town and the road is north of the Penrost Forest. This forest runs along the coastline. Several glens are inside this forest as well and they run north to south towards the coastline. The current glen is Penrost Glen that you are now standing inside of. You would know that the coastline forests are riddled with them and that bandits, hermits, and now goblins use them to hide out.

"That 'bottleneck' concerns me...
Argh! I must be more vigilant in my avoidance of metaphors, no matter how common the may be >:\
_Soros_ |
SD, I'll be travelling all day/evening tomorrow and probably won't be able to post until Friday (42 hours from now). Please bot Soros as needed.
Dogryn Amaidar |
can we come together on a decision...as to which way and what we are doing. It seems again we are heading off in several different directions. If we have to debate each and every situation, we will never get to the first combat let alone finish the first part of this adventure. Just hoping we can come together as a group instead of individuals. I do not want to see this end as so many other PBP games because people will not work with each other. Can we work together...
Zove |
Wow, sorry...my writing must be so terrible it was completely misunderstood. Dog, the "good thinking" was directed at you...she was following your idea to walk up the river shore. I wasn't ignoring you at all, rather responding to you directly. I guess I didn't even realize there were differing opinions on the table at the moment. o_O
Dogryn Amaidar |
Your writing is not bad at all and it could be mine that is terrible, which is most likely the reason. LOL
I said for us to follow them in the water.
"let us get in the river and follow them. "
So when you mentioned "Good thinking, and yes...this is the middle glen...it carries the messages of the hills to the sea-cliffed shores of the Azure Sea...pointing downstream before continuing by foot with Rabalar." That was like WOW she really does not like my character..LOL
I hope this clears up things a bit.
Thank you for explaining your side.
Zove |
Ah yeah, I see now...Im a moron, I did actually completely miss that last part of your post. I really thought you wanted to go by foot! I actually don't care either way (foot vs water) and was just trying to move things along, because I agree we have been in this spot way too long.
I've run a few successful pbp games and totally understand how annoying problem solving times like these can be that stretch on for a whole week, trust me.
Dogryn Amaidar |
So we both want to moves this along and I am glad that we can actually agree on this. I have been in a few games where a player just refuses to budge on anything and drags the game down. I have been in three that had this happen by the same player. So now when that player and I are trying for the same game...I just tell the DM that if both are chosen I will drop out as I am not wasting my time.
Naia Temlow |
I'll admit I was confused, but generally rather than specifically. More about the available options - it didn't seem to me we had reached a conclusion on which way was safest...
_Soros_ |
I don't think alternate suggestions should be taken negatively. However, the posting rate of this game thus far is somewhat irregular, so I do agree that debate of any real length is likely to bog us down.
Perhaps we should adopt the rule that when 3 of us post agreement in gameplay the group follows that course of action, for better or for worse? This would help us maintain forward momentum.
For the record, Soros is willing to follow any party majority decisions that don't involve dealing with magic - outside of his area of expertise he's willing to swallow his doubts and assume others know what they're about.
Naia Temlow |
Happy to also go with Rule of Three. And Naia is fairly similar in that regard to Soros - she knows her way around a boat and a harpoon' whale, but mostly she's learning on the job. Having said that, she still can see danger in dangerous options. Sometimes.
ALLENDM |
So I am on the same page with the party.
The intent is to go into the water and/or if possible stay on the shoreline when available? I am assuming everyone is on alert and checking the areas around and above them. Anything specific as far as perception/survival/knowledge nature-local you would want to utilize while traversing the glen?
Who has what drawn/in hand? Naia has her harpoon in hand and buckler in off hand.

_Soros_ |
Soros will have his staff at the ready when on land and when in the water will hold it in one hand, with that arm draped over his PFD (log).
EDIT: He'll put his spellbook and component pouch in the top of his pack, and when in the water he'll do his best to keep them above the waterline.
Zove |
Zove takes off her armor, component pouch, ritual book, and scimitar and stores them all on the float. She keeps her clothes on and grips her knife in her mouth, with holly and mistletoe still tied around her neck.
She will keep looking for native animals to use empathy/speak with animals with.
edit: or based on the recent gameplay post, maybe not needed
Dogryn Amaidar |
D'ogryn had a dagger out that he stabs deep into the wood for easy use and as a means to grip the "boat" better.
Rabalar |
Sorry, I forgot to post an absence notification.
I packed my computer Wednesday night, took it to the second weekend of Wood Badge (a Boy Scout training program for adults which we hold in a campground with no internet . . .), and just unpacked and set it back up today.
Tomorrow, I even have to go back to work.

No problem at all. I just had a couple of crazy weeks at work and at home so I totally understand.

All,
Using Google Draw.
1) Go to draw file (in this case Goblin Encampment).
2) Move your PC and if needed make notes using either COMMENTS (INSERT>COMMENTS) or add TEXT BOX (like the text I made to point out where Edan saw movement). Use it to create spells and area of effect (like the purple faerie fire note). If you need to point out a complicated movement you can with directional arrows.
3) Once complete and after every change Google Draw will automatically save the changes for us. Once done go to FILE>Version History and simply use the TIMESTAMP and your PC's name. It will be on the right under VERSION HISTORY and click the 3 vertical dots and hit rename for your version. Once you save the next person does the same thing. If a mistake is made we can simply move back to the correct version (timestamp).
